Work has begun on the new Vicenzaoro

Ieg, the company that organizes Vicenzaoro, has decided to invest 60 million to expand the spaces of Fiera Vicenza in view of the next event, set for 6 to 10 September. The redevelopment works have begun, as evidenced by the images, commented by the architect Mario Vescovo, director of the Vicenza headquarters of Ieg, as well as director of operations of the same plant: “After the official handover of the construction site area last February 12th to the company winner of the tender called by Ieg for the demolition, the environmental remediation operations are nearing completion to begin the subsequent demolition of pavilion 2. However, the dismantling of pavilion 5 has already been completed in recent days.

The demolition of the old pavilions will be completed within the next four months, including the removal of the foundations, to prepare the land for the new construction on the same footprint as the new building of approximately 22,000 square meters, designed by Studio GMP of Hamburg. The new building will be developed on two levels and will be completed in the first half of 2026.

Ieg changes the manager of Vicenzaoro

Matteo Farsura, former Exhibition Manager of Vicenzaoro, takes over the leadership of the Jewelery & Fashion division of Ieg, the company that organises, among other things, the fair dedicated to jewellery. Farsura replaces the division’s Global Exhibition Director, Marco Carniello, who takes on the role of Chief Business Officer at the helm of Ieg’s new Business Management, which will coordinate all the industries presided over by the exhibition player. In essence, a promotion for Carniello and a new responsibility for Farsura, which will manage the events of Ieg’s Jewelery Agenda: Vicenzaoro, Oroarezzo, T.Gold, Summit del Gioiello, Valenza Gem Forum, VO’Clock Privé, VO Vintage, as well as JGTD and SIJE in Dubai and Singapore respectively.

The manager will also have responsibility for Fimast, which falls within IEG’s J&F division. From Padua, born in 1975, Matteo Farsura has worked at IEG since 2017, where he contributed to developing first the technology segment, then the Arezzo events and finally Vicenzaoro. After his scientific studies, a degree in Business Economics in Venice Cà Foscari and an MBA Master’s degree from the CUOA Foundation with the US University of Michigan Dearborn (International Program), he developed managerial skills in the luxury sector and event organization, operating – among others – in a leading Italian fashion jewelery company, and drawing inspiration from the values of sport, borrowed from consolidated experience in rugby in the dual role of player and coach.

Vicenzaoro, Palakiss passes to Ieg

In Vicenza the pavilion located in front of the space that hosts Vicenzaoro, i.e. the Palakiss, passes to the Italian Exhibition Group. The operation has a modest value (around 1 million euros), but offers further opportunities to the exhibition centre. Ieg, the company that organizes Vicenzaoro and which is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, acquires 51% of the capital of Palakiss srl. The agreement was signed with Andrea Marcon, who will remain CEO of Palakiss, a goldsmith center a few steps from the exhibition center and which since 1999 has organized four annual events in which Italian and international manufacturing companies in the gold sector participate.

The operation represents a further step in the strategy defined by the Group to increase and enrich the Ieg product portfolio. The acquisition constitutes, in fact, an opportunity to strengthen the sectoral specialization of the goldsmith industry that we serve and contribute to supporting in order to create continuous business opportunities.

The terms of the agreement also include a call option for the purchase of the remaining 49% of the share capital, exercisable 30 days after the approval of the 2024 financial statements and valid for the following three years, at a price to be determined on the basis of the average Ebitda resulting from the two financial statements approved prior to the date of exercise of the option. Closing date to be determined.

The acquisition will allow Ieg to expand its offering in the Jewelery & Fashion sector, creating interesting synergies with the main events already consolidated for Vicenzaoro, T.Gold and Oroarezzo. Under shared and unified management, the international operator visiting Vicenza will be able to access an even wider range of products and services related to the world of jewelery and will have a single interlocutor capable of guaranteeing the best business experience.

The jewelery industry under the lens in Arezzo

The point on Italian jewellery: it was, for the third year, the objective of the Italian Jewelery Summit, organized by the Italian Exhibition Group (Ieg) with the Municipality of Arezzo, the Arezzo-Siena Chamber of Commerce and Arezzo Fiere e Congressi . The jewelery industry is one of the country’s strong points: in the first eight months of the year, exports, which account for over 80% of the sector’s business, increased by 12.8% in value, above 7 billion euros. Although, according to Giordana Giordini, president of Orafi Confindustria Toscana Sud, 2024 is characterized by stabilisation, after the record growth percentages recorded in the post-covid period. But, looking to the future, there are also shadows. Starting from the difficulty of recruiting young specialists in the goldsmith arts. And this was one of the hot points of the discussion.

Summit del Gioiello Italiano 2023
Summit del Gioiello Italiano 2023

The small business association Confartigianato, for example, has presented a project for the provision of scholarships worth 500 euros to the most deserving students from local middle schools who will choose training courses in the goldsmith field in 2024. Luca Parrini, National President of Confartigianato Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, underlined the need for manpower with professional skills: in the Arezzo area alone there is talk of a thousand companies. As encouragement, the Best Design 2023 award in the Talents category of the Première di Oroarezzo competition was also awarded at the event, won by Marta D’Ambrosio, student at the Margaritone Goldsmith Institute in Arezzo, with an opal necklace surrounded by rays studded with colored stones

Another focal point addressed was that of sustainability. Vincenzo Aucella, president of Assocoral and vice-president of Federpreziosi Confcommercio, talked about the latest projects and news for the coral supply chain which, until 30 years ago, was fished mechanically, scraping the rocks, while today it is collected throughout the Sea Mediterranean following specific rules: seasonality, limited number of licenses, established daily and seasonal harvest quantities, traceability. «In 2019 we set ourselves the objective of not losing this traceability. Thus the collective brand MadeinTorredelGreco was born. A brand that currently has 35 certifiers and, 14 months after launch, 1,067 certificates issued”, explained Aucella.

Finally, Corrado Peraboni, CEO of IEG, and Marco Carniello, Global Exhibition Director Jewelery & Fashion IEG, presented the 2024 appointments of the Italian Exhibition Group for the gold and jewelery industry. It starts in January, from 19th to 23rd, with Vicenzaoro January, T.Gold and VO Vintage, at the Vicenza fair, and then moves to the Arezzo exhibition center with Oroarezzo, from 11th to 14th May 2024. From 11th to 14th July it’s SIJE’s turn, at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Center Singapore, while from 6 to 10 September we return to Vicenza with Vicenzaoro September and VO’Clock Privè. Last events of 2024: Valenza Gem Forum, 10 October at the Teatro Sociale of Valenza; JGT in Dubai, from 12 to 14 November at the Dubai Exhibition Center (DEC); Italian Jewelery Summit, early December 2024 in Arezzo.

Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai postponed to November 2024

Change of season for Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai, a fair dedicated to jewelery organized by Informa Markets Jewelery and Italian Exhibition Group. The third edition will be held from 12 to 14 November 2024, and in a new venue, the Dubai Exhibition Center (Dec), Hall 1 & 2 South. The fair was initially scheduled for February 6-8, 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Center. The reason for the repositioning is not clear. According to Marco Carniello, Global Exhibition Director Jewelery & Fashion at IEG, “B2B buyers of jewelery and gemstones need to reduce the sourcing cycle to meet the rapidly evolving needs and preferences of their customers. The new dates of the fair strategically respond to this need, allowing the shop windows to be renewed during the high season”.

For Celine Lau, Director of Jewelery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery, “the move to DEC represents an exciting step forward and further strengthens JGTD’s role as a global meeting place where new products are discovered, inspiring ideas are shared and connections are made . JGTD’s distinctive positioning will also be amplified with the move to the new headquarters which consolidates its prominent position in the jewelery trade fair calendar. Dec is a surface located in the Expo 2020 area, with 45,000 square meters of business spaces, meeting rooms and cutting-edge services. It is served by the Dubai Metro Route 2020 station, providing efficient transport and direct access to the city’s main attractions, many of which can be reached in around 30 minutes by car. Dubai Marina, the elegant waterfront neighborhood adjacent to the Palm Jumeirah, is just a 20-minute drive. During the third edition, JGTD will present a wide variety of products offered by approximately 400 exhibitors from 25 countries. Collections of high jewellery, loose diamonds and precious and colored stones, components and production technologies, up to lab grown diamonds, will be available in the same place.

Hi-tech shines in Vicenzaoro

The technological side of jewelery is increasingly important for those who produce, but also for those who buy rings, necklaces and earrings. And it will also be one of the focuses of Vicenzaoro September (8-12), the classic appointment organized by the Italian Exhibition Group. The organizers announce moments of information and reflection on augmented reality, 3D printing, phygital retail experiences involving creation and processing, logistics and distribution. Talks, seminars and areas dedicated to innovation are planned to address the issue. At the base is the study by Bain Luxury and technology: the beginning of a new era commissioned by Comité Colbert, an association that brings together 93 French luxury maisons. According to the consultancy firm, in the next three years luxury companies will employ on average three types of emerging technologies more than those already in use.

According to the program of the Vicenza event, solutions from startups and SMEs will be found in the Startup & Carats area, a project organized in collaboration with Agenzia Ice for the promotion of Italian companies abroad. In this context, Livemote makes its debut, a startup from Arezzo with parent company in Rome that develops software for technical assistance on machinery through augmented reality and for 3D modeling starting from photographic supports. Particular Materials from Padua is also a new entry in Vicenza with a new technology for traceability of the supply chain and anti-counterfeiting which, through the use of nanoparticles invisible to the naked eye integrated into the product or material, guarantees its authenticity through the use of portable X-ray analyzers.

The Bologna-based Change2, on the other hand, through augmented reality and 3D configuration, detects the measurements of rings and bracelets by framing them with the smartphone. And the Alo Solutions software from Arezzo is used to create product photo shoots or professional videos directly from smartphones. Art&sofT, the digital agency from Valencia, brings to the fair its multilingual management software dedicated exclusively to the jewelery sector, integrated with business intelligence services to synchronize data from the physical store and e-commerce. The area dedicated to startups also includes Officina Orafa, from Calabria and with a new office in Rome, which presents its patented closure for modular and interchangeable necklaces and bracelets, and the Milanese Fortitudo Finance with a subsidized finance service aimed at goldsmith companies to obtain grants linked to innovation.

Young people and jewelery at the first Valenza Gem Forum

There are not enough jewelery professionals in Italy. For this reason, Mani Intelligenti was created in Valenza, one of the Italian jewelery districts. , because few young people take the path of goldsmithing. A focus on the situation is scheduled for October 10: the Valenza Gem Forum is the first appointment organized at the Teatro Sociale in Valenza dedicated to the Piedmontese district of fine jewelry. It is promoted by the Mani Intelligenti Foundation in collaboration with the Italian Exhibition Group. company that organizes Vicenzaoro.

An opportunity to discuss key issues for the productivity of the district: consumption and distribution trends of fine jewellery, creativity and innovation, traceability and supply of precious stones and diamonds that have been set here for over two centuries. The core of the very high skills that the jewelery tradition of Valencia expresses. The theme of training aimed at the younger generations is central to give continuity to a growing economic sector that represents the best made in Italy in the world. In the first quarter of 2023, +24.4% of district exports compared to the same period of the previous year (processed by Confindustria Federorafi data from the Confindustria Moda Study Center).

For a sector, that of jewellery, which is running fast (in Italy in the first quarter of 2023 it shows a growth in turnover of 11.3%) Vicenzaoro also benefits from it: the exhibition space is sold-out, with several companies on the waiting list , in particular for the Icon community dedicated to high-end jewellery. For this Ieg has made available all the available spaces, including the conference rooms in pavilion 7.1 on the first floor of the exhibition centre, creating a reserved space.

Opportunities from Asia
Singapore, the economic hub of the ASEAN area which has a catchment area of 600 million people, represents a major development opportunity for gold, jewelery and watchmaking, with compound annual growth forecasts (CAGR) for luxury goods in the 4.64% in the five-year period 2022-2027, supported by the entry of new jewelery brands and the increase in sales of watches, accompanied by rapid urbanization and greater availability of income.

According to Confindustria Federorafi data, in 2022 Italy exported goods to the area for 264.44 million euros, equal to 2.7% of total sectoral exports in value, with increases of +46.5% on 2021 and by +89.4% on pre-covid 2019. Taken together, these markets occupied the ninth place in the ranking of destinations. Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand are the three main markets in the area. A decidedly positive trend also in the first quarter of 2023, which closed with 81 million euros exported, +38.3% on January-March 2022 and a 3.2% share of total sectoral exports for the period analysed.

Sije is a new stage in Ieg’s expansion strategy, which offers our exhibitors and prospects an even richer portfolio of top-level exhibitions on the various continents. The Far East, in particular, is one of the largest and most interesting markets for companies aiming to expand their business by exporting products and know-how.

The jewelry industry wants to hire young people. That’s why it can’t find them

Do you want to work in the jewelry world? Come on, there’s room. Especially for young people who want to learn the ancient art of working with gold, setting gems and designing. The invitation comes from the Italian sector associations: companies are looking for new professional resources.
According to Confindustria Federorafi, the Italian Exhibition Group (the company that organizes Vicenzaoro), which involved the site Skuola.net, the figures are unequivocal: Italian exports in November 2022 came close to 9 billion euros (8.98 million euros) with an increase of 22.1% over the same period of 2021 and 40.6% over 2019, pre-covid. The data, the companies point out, is of great importance for a sector that exports 89.5% of its turnover.

And forecasts are also brilliant (the right adjective): sector turnover forecasts for 2022 indicate an absolute record of 10.9 billion euros, despite a slowdown in recent months. The export of Italian jewelery is mainly directed to the USA (+13.9%), Switzerland (+20.9%) and the Emirates (+20.9%), while the covid restrictions have only slowed down Hong Kongs (-0.5%). The economic surveys on a sample of companies also indicate a positive sentiment for the first half of 2023, both for turnover and for employees: 36% of the companies interviewed believe they will hire other employees. The Italian world of jewelery involves 30,619 people (58% women).

In short, great satisfaction. But up to a certain point, because the more than 7,100 Italian companies in the sector cannot find specialized personnel. Worse still, over half of the employed will be of retirement age in less than ten years and only 13% of the employed are under the age of 30. The thriving goldsmith business is little perceived by young people, it has no appeal. Yet there is no shortage of specialized schools: there are almost 40 institutes providing training, but the number of graduate students is still insufficient compared to the demand from companies, which are looking for around 3,000 people to hire overall.

Our school system has one tenth of technical graduates compared to Germany. A training and information effort by school principals, teachers and counselors is needed, starting from secondary school, to acquire all the elements and all the useful information to be transferred to the students, making the most of the many opportunities in professional and salary terms that the sector also of the precious it can offer. At the same time, the business system must be more open and communicate better.

Here, exactly. Because if the world of jewelery attracts little, it is also because it often communicates a dusty image. Old. Obsolete. Not all companies, please. The big brands, the companies that compete on foreign markets with the finished product, not with the semi-finished products, have a different way of approaching the world of work. But of the 7,100 companies mentioned, those of international level are no more than a hundred, perhaps much much less. Just look at the gallery of horrors of dated, old, out-of-date corporate websites. Can anyone who sells a refined product afford to offer a website that has been stopped for years as a business card? Who doesn’t explain, doesn’t introduce himself, doesn’t offer any point of interest for a young person? And we are also talking about companies that produce fine jewelry. But who wants to go to work in a company that has no interest in informing about its business? Not to mention the many micro-companies that don’t have a website either.

We also want to talk about what these companies offer to a young person? And not just from a salary point of view. If working in a goldsmith industry means facing a repetitive, unstimulating task, then the choice depends only on the salary. A young man will go where he earns the most. Point. How many jewelery companies also present themselves with prospects for professional growth, creativity, with a stimulating environment?

In any case, the goldsmith industries are looking for young people to hire. For this reason, Federorafi has created for the first time a mapping of schools and institutes with goldsmith courses. Not only that, the association has also defined the most sought-after professional profiles such as goldsmith, cashier, engraver, gemologist, cleaner, 3D printing expert, numerical control machine expert, designer, digital media specialist and organized the first Orientation day during Vicenzaoro and will also activate a platform to facilitate the matching between supply and demand. Furthermore, Federorafi, in collaboration with Vicenzaoro, has launched a partnership with Skuola.net to open a channel with students. Excellent initiative. But, at the same time, Federorafi could also do some training for its associates.

Ieg conquers the Singapore jewelery fair

The fairs dedicated to jewelery are increasingly global and the challenge is played out across the board. Thus, after the agreement and the relaunch in the Middle East with the JGT Dubai, Ieg flies to Asia. The Italian company, which organizes Vicenzaoro and Oroarezzo lands in Singapore with its own wholly owned company Ieg Asia Pte and with two exhibitions, respectively in the jewelery and food & beverage sectors, acquired by Cems (Conference & Exhibition Management Services) . The two fairs are Sije, Singapore International Jewelry Expo and Café and Restaurant Asia.

Singapore is already one of the nerve centers for jewellery, where Jewelery & Gem World Singapore takes place, organized by Informa Markets Jewellery, which organizes the big event in Hong Kong. In short, the challenge on the Singapore field is open.

First of all, we are pleased to confirm the partnership with Stb, a guarantee of development and success for the exhibitions acquired. We also wish to underline how important the synergies are between the exhibitions in Italy and those acquired, highlighting the consequent impact generated by the internationalization of our exhibitions also on the Italian territory

The goal is to grow the exhibitions in Singapore, also by leveraging a mutual and productive exchange of the great success of the last edition of Vicenzaoro in January 2023 which saw the presence of over 1,300 exhibiting brands. The same can be said for Sigep with its 1,000 companies in the 2023 edition in Rimini.

At the Museo del Gioiello also Ancient Egypt for children

Jewels not to wear, but to look at. Historical, iconic, mythical jewels. These are those exhibited in Vicenza at the Museo del Gioiello, which in 2022 more than doubled the number of tickets sold compared to the pre-pandemic period: +134% compared to the admissions recorded in 2019. The museum project is managed by the Italian Exhibition Group (the company that organizes Vicenzaoro) in partnership with the Municipality of Vicenza.

Oroarezzo returns on May 13th

Oroarezzo (May 13-16), the event organized by the Italian Exhibition Group for Made in Italy jewelery manufacturing companies, is back. Oroarezzo also presents itself with a new claim, Shaping jewelery ideas, to underline the ability to transform ideas into precious jewels. As always, Oroarezzo focuses on goldsmith manufacturing, semi-finished products, components and tech, but also offers retailers the cash & carry area for ready-to-wear purchases in view of the seasonal reassortment of the shop windows.

The Première review is also back, a competition that rewards the best goldsmith creations conceived and created by exhibiting companies on a chosen theme, focusing the spotlight on the new generations. JGTD-Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai kicks off

Jewelery world focused on Dubai. The second edition of JGTD-Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai, the event reserved for operators organized by Italian Exhibition Group together with Informa Markets at the World Trade Centre, will take place in the city of the Emirates from 12 to 14 February. Vicenzaoro January hit the mark

The Vicenzaoro January outcome reflect the numbers relating to the jewelery business: they are gold. The organizing company of the event, Italian Exhibition Group, defines it as the edition of records. In fact, Vicenzaoro and the jewelery sector have put the crisis caused by the covid behind them. Also from an aesthetic point of view: the fittings of the standard editions have reappeared, more spacious and welcoming. As for the reverberation of the war in Ukraine, perhaps it is too early to count its weight. Vicenzaoro will be back at the end of the summer (8-12 September) among other things, in an exhibition environment renewed by a restructuring that has just begun.

But let’s get to the official numbers: 1,300 exhibiting brands and 400 foreign buyers. Compared to a year ago, foreign buyers doubled (+105%). More generally, the turnout was record (+11.5%) compared to January 2020. And this, Ieg points out, despite the duration of Vicenzaoro 2023 being one day shorter. Visitors from abroad are 60% of the total and have arrived from 136 countries around the world. In particular, from Europe (54.5%) the Middle East (9.5%), Asia (9%), Turkey (9%), North America (7.2%), Africa (5.4%) and Latin America (4.7%). Among the most represented countries are the United States, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Spain, the UK, France, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Saudi Arabia, India, Japan and Thailand. However, the absence of Russia from China should be noted, at least from the official balance sheet.

Among the novelties of Vicenzaoro, moreover, there is certainly the substantial entry of the world of contemporary watchmaking and its supply chain with the Time platform, alongside the public entry of Vo Vintage, for open vintage watches and jewellery.
