Pearls never go out of fashion. But it’s all a question of measurement. Wearing this 222 meter long necklace (record certified by the Guinness Book of Records) could be uncomfortable. The necklace is on display in a Hanshin department store, Osaka, Japan. The necklace weighs approximately 20 kilograms and is made up of 28 thousand pearls with a diameter of 8 millimetres. The idea of stringing thousands of pearls came to Shima, the local tourist association, in the hope of advertising the town as a perfect place for the cultured pearl industry. The necklace, in case someone feels unhealthy temptation, is not for sale. It is not the first time that in Japan they have attempted kilometer necklaces: the record broke the one previously held by the city of Uwajima, where a 187 meter necklace was created.
