Do you like the sapphire? And then you must go to Sri Lanka. In the large island south of India somebody has found the largest blue sapphire in the world. It is now owned by a Sinhalese trader, it is shaped like an egg, and weighing 1,404.49 carats. It was authenticated as the largest of its kind by the Gemological Institute of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. “You can not put a price on a stone like this,” said the gemologist Ashan Amarasinghe, the Agence France-Presse. “It is a stone so rare that, unlike other sapphires smaller, can not be replaced. It’s something that only collectors or museums can afford. ” According to the BBC, the owner expects that the stone will sold for 175 million, while France-Presse drives up the price to 300 million. In case you are interested in purchasing, get ready. The Sapphire by Guinness record was found in the central region of Sri Lanka, Ratnapura. The BBC reports that the owner called the stone the Star of Adam, a name inspired by the Muslim belief that Adam has arrived in Sri Lanka, after being sent away from the Garden of Eden. Who knows. But for sure the island is a paradise for sapphires. Federico Graglia
