If you like tourmaline, you should go to Montreal, Canada, where a series of jewels are on display, including a Guinness World Record stone. It is the 192-carat Paraiba Oval, the largest of the Paraiba gems discovered to date and among the most famous in the world. The stone was mounted on the Paraiba Star of the Ocean Jewels, a necklace that required several months of work by jeweler Patrick Gravelle of the maison Kaufmann de Suisse. In 2009, the value of the tourmaline alone was estimated at more than 125 million Canadian dollars. Discovered in the late 1980s, the turquoise Paraiba tourmaline is considered the most valuable of rare gems, discovered in the small town of Sao José da Batalha, Brazil, by a young boy.
