VicenzaOro September is back, with design, technology and luxury. And with some plugs ♦

VicenzaOro is back (7-11 September), with many hopes for companies and jewelery operators, and some questions for Italian Exhibition Group, the company that organizes the event. On the one hand, there is the difficult moment of trade fairs, as in the case of Baselworld, even if VicenzaOro has not suffered the same reduction in exhibitors. On the other hand, the sudden resignation, a few days before the inauguration of VicenzaOro, of the CEO of Ieg, Ugo Ravanelli, at the operational guide of the company born in 2017 from the merger between Riminfiera and Fiera di Vicenza. Ravanelli unexpectedly resigned, with a consequent slip of the stocks on the stock exchange. But, the interested party and the company itself argue, the timing of the two events is not related.

In any case, VicenzaOro is again not a test easy, also due to the slowdown of the economy in Europe, which hinders expectations and consumption, as well as the increasingly insidious competition of digital, which many companies interpret as an easy communication channel , which can largely replace the presence in a booth. It is difficult to be really so, but on the other hand the costs of being present at a fair (any one), between logistics and employees, insurance policies, security, etc., have become too heavy for many small and large companies. So there are those who choose to restrict their presence to a few, very few events. Or none at all.

In this new edition of VicenzaOro the innovations concern above all the Design Room, a good idea introduced by the past management of the Fair, an area that brings together some excellent brands, such as Marie Mas, Lydia Courteille and Alessio Boschi (already present in the past), and some international news such as Tomasz Donocik, the Lebanese Yeprem, the Greek Margaritis Lefteris. Sicis, Mattia Cielo and Alessa Jewelry also return, while new entries include Eclats Jewelry, Cedille Paris and Netali Nissim, with its iconic collection of prêt-à-porter talismans. Another important novelty is expected, instead, in the rest of the Icon area: for the first time London jeweler-rocker Stephen Webster will debut in Vicenzaoro.

In addition to a rich outline of conferences, workshops and meetings, one of VicenzaOro’s strong points compared to its competitors seems to have become T.Evolution, at its second edition: it is the technological and innovative soul of the exhibition. The area is focused on digital technologies and methodologies increasingly at the center of jewelery creation processes, and develops in an even more visible and enhanced way.
Extension of T.Gold, an appointment dedicated to the world with machinery, technology and innovation for the industries of the sector, scheduled each year in the Vicenzaoro January edition, T.Evolution is aimed at both goldsmiths and jewelers / retailers who intend to offer a first service to their customers (analysis tools, 3D printers and the like, etc.). An area of ​​sure interest for jewelery producers.

Saturday 7 September opens VicenzaOro (7-11 September). Here are the main events expected during the five days within the exhibition spaces.

Visio.Next: Summit – Saturday 7 September: the format dedicated to trends in the world of jewelery and jewelery returns, to product innovations, consumption patterns and market trends destined to leave their mark with an edition dedicated to sustainability. International experts, including top influencers, companies and leading industry players, will discuss Spreading Sustainability: the dissemination of practices to ensure sustainability turns out to be – from the constant comparison between operators in the supply chain and trade associations – among the major priorities of the sector. The theme, of strategic importance for the sector, will be the leitmotif of other events including the Cibijo conference of which Ieg (a company that organizes VicenzaOro) is a member.

TrendVision Talk – Sunday 8 September: Trendvision Jewelery + Forecasting, Ieg’s first independent Observatory specialized in forecasting in the world of jewelry, organizes for the first time at Vicenzaoro September 2019 an important talk that will focus on the most recent developments in the sector gioielliero. The appointment will in particular offer insights into the latest trends that will influence the world of jewelery through the contributions of leading influencers, journalists and industry experts. The central moment of the event will be the presentation by Paola De Luca, director of Ieg’s Trendvision Observatory, of The Jewelery Trendbook 2021+, now in its 18th edition, which represents the synthesis of studies and research on the international luxury market, on consumer attitudes and future trends to lead the market in the next 18 months.

Cibjo Conference – Monday 9 September: appointment with Cibjo, the World Jewelery Confederation, which, in collaboration with Italian Exhibition Group, will organize the seminar Technological solutions for sustainibility and responsible sourcing in the jewelery industry focused on the environmental and sustainable aspects of jewelery.

Digital Talks – 8-9 September: series of Talks and brainstorming for 30 minutes on the hottest topics of digital innovation dedicated to jewelery and watch retailers in collaboration with Confcommercio Federpreziosi. The Digital Talks will involve industry experts who will tell practical cases related to the world of jewelers and will provide tools that can be quickly applied to the world of detail.

Gem Talk – 8-10 September: the format of the short rotary interventions 30 minutes repeated on the world of stones, thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Gemological Institute. Within the Gem Square, expert gemologists will deal with case histories, offer advice and explore themes on the mysterious and fascinating world of stones, with an eye to the future, technological and ethical.

Gold Italy comes back





Gold Italy returns to Arezzo in October, a fair dedicated to professional jewelry operators ♦ ︎

It will be golden autumn in Arezzo (Tuscany). From October 26th to 28th, in fact, Gold Italy is scheduled, an autumn event in which the best Made in Italy goldsmith meets international buyers. The event, organized by Italian Exhibition Group, is now in its seventh edition and is dedicated to a professional audience: it will again occupy the Arezzo Fiere Congressi pavilions with the formula of the international business workshop.

On display is a selection of brands and companies from all Italian goldsmith districts, namely Arezzo, Vicenza, Valenza, Torre del Greco, Milan: they will present the national goldsmith production, appreciated for its extraordinary design and innovative creativity, silverware, semi-finished products, stones and components for buyers from the main outlet markets of the sector, from the United States to the Middle East, from Eastern Europe to Hong Kong and Asia.

Ieg, the company that organizes VicenzaOro, has observed the lesson of Baselworld: communicating and avoiding a precipitous decline. The Design Room, located inside the Icon pavilion, will complement some of the most important international innovations with appearances now consolidated in Vicenzaoro such as Marie Mas, Lydia Courteille and Alessio Boschi. Among these, also Tomasz Donocik, a Polish designer who lives and works in London, already named Jeweler of the year in the United Kingdom: we have written about him other times on gioiellis.com. Stylistically very contemporary, with a language that speaks to a sophisticated and mature public, he works in an artisanal way, exclusively in 18-carat gold, pink or white, use the best precious stones and has succeeded over time to innovate while respecting the harmony of forms.

Sustainability will shine at VicenzaOro





VicenzaOro focuses on sustainable jewelry for the September edition ♦ ︎

Among the fairs dedicated to jewelry there are great changements: the market changes, the digital channel takes attention, there are those who decide to do it themselves, like Pasquale Bruni or de Grisogono. Furthermore, new protagonists have appeared, such as GemGèneve, while Il Jck returns to the original location of the Sand Expo in Las Vegas and the presence of Couture is strengthened in the same city. Not to mention the increasingly mammoth Hong Kong Fair.

In the face of all this turmoil, VicenzaOro anticipates some themes and news for next September. The International Jewellery Show, organized by the Italian Exhibition Group this year will take place a couple of weeks earlier than usual, from 7 to 11 September. The advance was decided in order to avoid overlapping with the dates of international fashion and to facilitate the use of operators in both sectors, which are confirmed as increasingly close.

The theme of the September event will be Spreading Sustainability and will be developed both on the occasion of Visio: Next Summit, that is the inaugural round table, and during the events scheduled during the entire event. The Vioff is confirmed, that is the outline of the Fuori Fiera of which Ieg is the Official Partner. It also confirms for The Design Room, the area dedicated to 12 high-end designers within the Icon community. The Watch Room, a space dedicated to 12 independent producers in the sector, will be positioned in the colonnade in the fashion district’s Look pavilion.

The presence of technology has also been confirmed and enhanced, which since the last edition has also been presented at Vicenzaoro September with T.Evolution, dedicated to companies specializing in the design, production and sale of small machinery and high-tech tools for the jewelery sector, with the participation of relevant technical partners to coordinate a schedule of training interventions together with the companies.

Ruudt Peters at the Museo del Gioiello





The artist-designer Ruudt Peters at the Museo del Gioiello di Vicenza in the exhibition Bron ♦

Ruudt Peters, Dutch, is a jewelry designer, sculptor, visual artist. He attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and in 1973 he founded the Galerie Ekster in Leeuwarden. He has also taught at numerous European academies and, in Italy, he has been a lecturer at Alchimia – Florence Contemporary Jewelery School. Now go up the highest step: until September 22nd his works will be in the Spazio Off of the Museo del Gioiello, in Vicenza, in the exhibition entitled Bron, word that means source.

For the fortieth time OroArezzo returns (anticipated this year to 6-9 April): it’s a fair dedicated in particular to operators in the Tuscan area, but not only. There are over 500 jewelery, silver and goldcrafting companies, including prominent names such as Chiampesan, Falcinelli, Graziella, Unoaerre, to name a few. 450 buyers are also expected, hosted thanks to the support of the ICE.

The fair is articulated through exhibition paths dedicated to jewelery, jewelery, silverware, semi-finished products and stones that welcome some of the best Italian manufacturing companies. As always, there are dedicated areas: Cash & Carry and Tech.

There is a novelty with respect to past editions: Italian Exhibition Gruop, company that manages OroArezzo, organizes together with Ice Meccanica and Afemo (Association of Manufacturers of Gold Exporters for Jewelery) a dedicated incoming from the countries that are most in demand for technologies, such as Indonesia, Algeria, Morocco, Malaysia , India, Vietnam and Peru, with the involvement of 30 companies. Jewelery, Arezzo wins everyone





The statistics of the jewelery and goldsmith sector indicate 1,211 companies active in the province of Arezzo. Vicenza and Alessandria, instead … ♦︎

Italy is a country of saints, navigators and goldsmiths. The statistics of the Studies Office of the Arezzo Chamber of Commerce and published by Italian Exhibition Group on the eve of OroArezzo (6-9 April) photograph a sector with different degrees of health. The companies in the jewelery and goldsmith sector in the province of Arezzo have in fact increased from 1,185 in 2013 to 1,211 in 2018. More than Alexandria with its pole in Valenza (749) and Vicenza (545), where the other two areas are located where jewelery production is concentrated. The Tuscan city, in short, represents the largest district in terms of number of companies and also sees an increase in employees per company: 6.43 employees from 5.99 at the end of 2013. In terms of total employment, the Arezzo companies in the sector occupy 7,788 employees, the Alexandrian ones 4,855 and the Vicenza ones 4,280.

The state of health

Vicenza and Arezzo remain stable or moderately declining, while exports from the province of Alessandria show a slightly more dynamic trend, with national exports at + 2.2%. Alessandria focuses on the flows of exchange on Switzerland (as a re-export hub to the Maison of Geneva), while Vicenza and Arezzo remain penalized by significant export volumes on markets with less positive performances (such as the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong). The United States remains an important and stable target market for the import of Made in Italy products for all districts, from jewelery to jewelery.

The export performance of the goldsmith district of Arezzo towards the main target markets, shows how the United Arab Emirates, while discounting a reduction of almost 15 percentage points compared to 2017, is confirmed in first place in the ranking of the main outlet countries for the jewel of Arezzo. Exports to Hong Kong are up (+ 4.2%) and the performance towards the United States is stable (-0.1%).

OroArezzo will one month before : it will be held from 6 to 9 April. The theme of the contest will be the ring ♦

The goldsmith district of Arezzo anticipates the times. Ieg, Italian Exhibition Group, the company that organizes OroArezzo, has decided to anticipate the one-month fair. OroArezzo will therefore be held from 6 to 9 April (last year it took place on 5-8 May), again at the Arezzo Fair and Congresses. The explanation of this change of dates is to “facilitate the presence of buyers from the target markets for the Italian goldsmith district, while maintaining the distinctive and distinctive elements of the event”. Indeed, in May will incumbent, GemGenève (May 9-12), the Las Vegas Couture (May 30) and the Jck, also in Las Vegas (May 31).

As always, OroArezzo will also be the occasion for the Premiere contest, a themed competition that this year focuses on the shape of the ring. In each new edition the participating companies are asked to create a jewel that expresses the maximum of creativity in line with the company style, a creation inspired by traditional shapes reinterpreted in unconventional ways, with maximum freedom in the choice of materials and workmanship.

The budget of VicenzaOro January: the jewelery fair is more and more international ♦ ︎

Turned off the lights of VicenzaOro January, closed the display cases where the jewels have shone, dismounted the booths that waiting visitors , the time has come to take stock. How did this edition of the biggest Italian jewelery fair go? Italian Exhibition Group, the company that organizes the event, does not offer an exhaustive overview of all the numbers, but ensures to be satisfied with the result.

In general, there seems to have been a greater international contribution.

Ieg, with greater enthusiasm, speaks of “formidable growth of foreign visitors”. In fact, the numbers comfort the optimism: there were over 60% of foreign operators. They had passed the Italians already in 2018, when had been a surge in arrivals from abroad. Indeed, the US and China have confirmed the performance of 2018, but also Europe has seen increasing presences: between Germany, Switzerland, Austria, + 12%, the United Kingdom (+ 11.7%), France (+ 10.5%) ), Spain (+ 9.6%), Northern Europe + 10.5%. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are in strong recovery (after last year’s drops) + 24.2%. Even Russia and Ukraine have seen 10.4% more presences, with an exploit of Kazakhstan to + 46%. No data, however, regarding India, which in 2018 had seen an increase of 51%. The statement confines itself to indicating, instead, that “the origin of visitors from Italy has confirmed the positive figure of last year”.

Chapter presences
VicenzaOro January closed with over 35,000 visitors. In 2018 there were 36,000, but the previous year 33,000. In short, we are average. As in previous years, the Ministry of Development, through the Ice (public authority for foreign trade), has helped by hosting over 400 buyers selected from the main markets, which have been added to over 2000 operators managed directly by IEG.
The brands in the display windows of the exhibitors were shown in 1500, more or less like last year, despite the forfait of historical brands such as Pasquale Bruni or Garavelli, but with the rentré of important Maison like Chantecler. In any case, 42% of the brands came from companies in 35 countries, like last year.

Ieg’s satisfaction also for the contemporary T.Gold, a show dedicated to technologies for the different processing of jewelery: now in its 41st edition, “it has confirmed its undisputed leadership at international level and its representative role of Italian technological excellence” . Next appointments of IEG: OroArezzo from 6 to 9 April and Premier Show in Las Vegas, 30 May – 3 June 2019.

Sustainable jewels in VicenzaOro January





VicenzaOro January in an edition dedicated to sustainable jewelery. With many new features ♦ ︎

VicenzaOro January it’s back (Friday 18 – Wednesday 23). For the main italian fair dedicated to jewelry is, this time, the first appointment completely organized by the new management of Italian Exhibition Group, that is without the presence of former manager Corrado Facco and former vice president Matteo Marzotto. Not only that: it will also be the first time, after 25 years, without an important exhibitor like Pasquale Bruni, but with the presence of new brands and some returns, like Chantecler. But this does not changes the importance of the appointment, a firm reference point for the gold industry and for jewelry lovers. Easy to summarize the official data of VicenzaOro January.

More than 59,000 square meters gross of spaces set up, 36,000 expected visitors, including international buyers, producers and designers from more than 130 countries: 60% of visitors come from abroad.

As usual, the exhibitors are divided into homogeneous areas: Icon, Look, Creation, Expression, Essence, Evolution, to which is added the Design Room with 12 invited brands. For companies, in conjunction with Vicenzaoro, also returns T.Gold, the exhibition dedicated to machinery and innovative technologies applied to jewelery and precious objects. And for visitors, following the Milan Design Week model, the program outside the Fair is back: Vioff Golden Wood edition (from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 January).
The program of initiatives will be dedicated, among other things. fundraising for the reconstruction of a wood on the Asiago plateau after the flood last autumn. The Fuori Fiera created by the City of Vicenza to promote the city and its excellences includes a program of initiatives dedicated to art, culture, entertainment and sporting exhibitions, widespread crafts & design shows, products of local businesses.

In addition to the stands with the new collections, VicenzaOro January also offers a series of training events as usual.

The Club degli Orafi Italia, for example, has organized a conference on the hot topic of sustainability: Sustainable (R) evolution: creating value through social purpose, scheduled for Sunday morning, January 20th, with Gabriele Aprea, president of the Club degli Orafi Italia and Chantecler , and by Marco Carniello, director of Ieg’s Jewelery & Fashion division, Eleonora Rizzuto, director of Sustainable Development for Bulgari and Lvmh, Aram Shishmanian, CEO of the World Gold Council, Enzo Liverino, president of Enzo Liverino 1894, Gaetano Cavalieri, president of Cibjo . In fact, the fil rouge of the appointment is sustainable creativity. Starting from the conference of Visio.Next, to continue in the Digital Talks, in the Gem Talks and in the presentation of Trendvision, will be the main theme in the six days of Vicenza.

Ieg changes VicenzaOro’s look with a gold leaf on a purple background. That’s why ♦ ︎

With a superficial glance reminds of a chips, round, golden and very tasty: ones that are sold in packages. The new symbol of VicenzaOro, however, obviously alludes to something else: a gold leaf, to the goldsmith’s skill made in Italy and, not least, to a change in graphics with respect to the management of Marzotto & Facco.

Just a few days after postponing the announced listing on the Stock Exchange (“we wait for a more favorable moment”), Ieg, the company that manages, among other things, the Vicenza trade fair announces the change in image.

Farewell to the poster vaguely styled Magritte, here is the new face studied by FutureBrand, a brand consulting company, to which Ieg has entrusted the task of rebranding: read gold leaves flying on a dark blue and purple background.
“The collaboration with FutureBrand has allowed us to witness the evolution of an important event like VicenzaOro, which leaves the geographical territory and is positioned among the most important business events in the world, to dialogue with operators across the entire supply chain in the sector of jewelry “, comments Marco Carniello, director of Ieg’s Jewelery & Fashion Division.
“Italy is the country of excellence and it is above all in the luxury and design sector, so collaborating with a brand like VicenzaOro has been a challenge for us at a high strategic and creative rate”, adds Lorenzo Corengia, associate account director of FutureBrand. ”
The new brand identity will make its official debut at VicenzaOro January (Vicenza, 18-23 January 2019), the first appointment of the reference year for the sector.

Ieg, a company that also organizes VicenzaOro and OroArezzo, and Confindustria aim, in short, to “a unique strategy for the promotion of Italian jewelry on international markets, through the involvement of companies, the leverage of fairs and within the framework of policies for the consolidation of Made in Italy abroad prepared by the Ministry of Economic Development “.

A few days ago, in fact, Matteo Marzotto, vice president of IEG, a company born from the union of Fiera Rimini with Fiera Vicenza, has resigned from his position, in a controversy with the octogenarian president of Italian Exhibition Group, the very senior Lorenzo Cagnoni.

It is not a little good-bye, as Marzotto must be credited with having relaunched VicenzaOro, above all at a difficult time for the Italian economy. New ideas, dynamism and personal relationships of Marzotto were the recipe for the new face of the format, which was then successfully exported abroad. All this, however, does not seem to have been enough for the new management of the company. More than a merger between two partners, it is the sense of the farewell of Marzotto, it was a question of an OPA of Rimini on Vicenza. And for Ieg, whose goal is to be listed on the stock exchange, Marzotto’s leave is not a minor goodbye.

The distance had already appeared clear during the last edition of VicenzaOro September, in which Marzotto was not involved.

“The way we look is practically opposite on everything, except on the goodness of the merger of the two fair companies and their listing on the Stock Exchange”, concluded Marzotto bitterly.

A forgetfulness perhaps caused by the unfortunate coincidence of VicenzaOro with the most important Jewish holidays, which have led many operators, both jewelry and gems, not to be present at the event. Not even the number of companies present is mentioned in the press release. Last year the brands (not the companies) had been indicated in 1300. This year the companies present in the official list were 1158 (we hope to have counted well). Baselworld effect? Maybe not, but a filings seems to have been there.
On the other hand, the number of countries present rose to 117 and this makes VicenzaOro even more international. A boom in Chinese visitors has been recorded (+ 73%) due to the lowering of import duties. Among other things, two women citizen of the Asian country were surprised to steal and arrested. Visits from the United States are also growing (+ 23%), while those from the United Arab Emirates and European countries are stable. See you in January.

The autumn edition of the fair (22-26 September) seems to start with good vitality. For the first time, for example, the entire city of Vicenza has been involved, with a series of events outside the Vicenza Fair complex, in a sort of festival that is not only dedicated to jewelery, but also to culture and to the gastronomy (even the jewelers are gourmand).
In addition, one of the cards played by the Italian Exhibition Group, but which was launched before the merger between Fiera Vicenza and Fiera di Rimini, is the intuition that in a global world you can not stay in your tower. It necessary get busy. And so VicenzaOro has become a format to export: a brand that has taken root in Dubai, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Mumbai. As mentioned, VicenzaOro also expands to the outside. The outside fair is called Vioff – Golden taste edition, conceived and organized by the Municipality of Vicenza in the historic center. In the countdown in view of VicenzaOro September, organized by the Italian Exhibition Group and scheduled in Vicenza from 22 to 26 September 2018, the scope of one of the most awaited sections, The Design Room, is now outlined with greater precision. Introduced a couple of editions ago, the area is reserved for particularly significant signatures of jewelry design. In the September 2018 edition, the area sees some confirmation and several new features. First of all, the number of designers changes: from 12 in the first edition, to January 2017, to the 11th of last January, to 8 September 2018. Among the Design Room aficionados, for this edition there are Qayten, an innovative boutique which always arouses great interest, Alessa Jewelery, a brand born from the love between designers Yuvraj Pahuja and Alessandra Robles, and the Italian-Brazilian Bia Tambelli. An exceptional debut is that of the talented Alessio Boschi, an Italian designer with a world profile, which until now has only been present at Baselworld. Other novelties are represented by the Cedille brand, created by Carmen Aoun in 2015, from the exotic collections of Inspiration Jewels and the simplicity of Syna. And more, the historic Garavelli brand is moved-up to the Design Room. In reality it is a matter of a few meters, because the Piedmontese Maison was previously located in the Icon area of ​​VicenzaOro, inside which is the Design Room area. It is no coincidence that last year Garavelli won a prestigious Design Award at the Couture in Las Vegas.

Italian Exhibition Group, the fair company that organizes VicenzaOro, has in fact decided to move the center of gravity in the Couture Show, a fair always organized in Las Vegas during the same period. The Couture Show is considered more exclusive and is the event with the participation of top designers and Maison. Ieg has thus made an agreement with Emerald Expositions, the organizer of the prestigious annual show, which also includes a contest with prizes. Ieg, among other things, has recently acquired 51% of Fb international, a company specializing in preparation of booths of fairs in North America.
In addition, at the same time as Couture, the Emerald Expositions will also host the new Premier show in Las Vegas during the Las Vegas Market Week, involving established jewelery and watch makers at the Las Vegas Convention Center along with the Las Vegas Antique Jewelery & Watch Show and Agta Gemfair Las Vegas. It is worth remembering that Italian jewelery companies have exported over 1 billion 170 million euro in 2017, with a growth of 15.8% compared to 2016.

VicenzaOro widens

Italian Exhibition Group presents the project that gives more space to the exhibition center that hosts VicenzaOro ♦ ︎
A strategic plan to make VicenzaOro shine more. Italian Exhibition Group presented a redevelopment project for the Vicenza exhibition center, centered in particular on the reference event for the jewelery sector. It is not a minor intervention: the investment is 35 million euros and provides for the radical redevelopment of Pavilion 2. The project is ready and will be realized by the architect Volkwin Marg, partner of the GMP studio Von Gerkan, Mark & Hamburg partner. The pavilion surface will be 26 thousand square meters. It will be built on two levels, against the current five, and will be equipped with functional and sustainable technologies.
The intervention decided by Ieg, a company that should face the listing on the stock market (permitting markets) next year, starts from the investment that, in 2015, was carried out on Hall 7. It was an intervention that allowed VicenzaOro to redesign the map of exhibitors in homogeneous communities, and to develop the The Boutique Show format. After some initial grumbling by some exhibitors who had to move from their usual position, the new formula was unanimously considered a positive evolution. In the last editions Vicenza has thus achieved a very high level of employment, equal to over 98%, while the demand for space on the part of exhibitors continues to grow.
Many of the commodity communities explain to Ieg, from that of high-end brands to the world of quality production, to gems and fashion and design jewelery, they show great potential for growth. With the intervention decided VicenzaOro should offer them more space.
