The Nizam’s treasure

The historic treasure of the Nizam, the royal family of central India, is visible again after 12 years with an exceptional exhibition ♦ ︎

If you are an enthusiast of jewelry, youmust buy a ticket for New Delhi, India. Until 5 May, you will have the chance to admire one of the world’s most precious diamonds, the 184.75-carat Jacob diamond, the seventh-largest, and another 173 precious jewels of the Nizams of Hyderabad, exhibited at the National Museum. The exhibition is titled Jewels of India: The Nizam’s Jewelery Collection. It is an exceptional event, because from 12 years nobody can see this collection of historical jewels up close. And it’s a story to be told.

The Nizam treasure is an outstanding example of Deccan jewelry, but was been locked up in the basement of the Reserve Bank of India in 1995, after a long legal battle over its ownership between the government and the former royal family.

Jacob Diamond, di 184,75 carati

A dispute that still continues between Esra, the widow heir of the royal family, and the government, which instead considers the treasure an invaluable national heritage, which should not be auctioned. In fact, jewels have historical value. It all started in 1948, after the accession of the state of Hyderabad at the new India state in 1948, following independence from Great Britain. After India’s annexation of the kingdom, Nizam and his heirs were banned by the Indian government. The heirs were forced to sell the jewels at a very reduced price and entrusted to some trusts. But after the death of Azam Jah, in 1970, the trusts decided to sell the jewels. And from that moment the legal battle with the government began.

Now, however, the exhibition organized at the National Museum allows you to closely observe the jewels.

Nizam jewels are set with fabulous Golconda diamonds, now exhausted mines, emeralds from Colombia, rubies and spinels, pearls from Burma and Basra. They are rich jewels and follow the traditional Indian aesthetic and design, appreciated by the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan. He created the Jewelery Trusts, which allowed the Indian government to acquire the jewels for the nation. The collection includes sarceche (turban ornaments), necklaces, belts and buckles, bracelets and bracelets, earrings, rings for toes, for hands, pocket watches and watch chains, buttons and cufflinks.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 5 May 2019. Federico Graglia

Artist jewelery online with Sotheby’s

In the online jewelery auction of Sotheby’s also pieces signed by great sculptors ♦ ︎

Online jewelery auctions are a well-established habit. The big sales auctions are periodically organizing sales, and often with thematic proposals, ie centered around a specific strand. This is the case of Sotheby’s, which opens the 2019 jewelery sales season with the Jewels Online auction (8-15 March).

The auction offers also a large group of jewelry signed by well-known artists, sculptors who have reserved part of their creativity to the world of valuables.

Meccaniche, collana del 1993 di Sebastiano Balbo
Meccaniche, collana del 1993 di Sebastiano Balbo

There are jewels that range from the nineteenth century to contemporary works, as in the case of the Compression of César, the Cinetica di Facchini or the brooch sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro. This last sculptor signs three works of this selection, all in 18-karat gold and characterized by his style. They are a ring (estimate 1.800-2.800 euros), a pair of twins (1,000-2,000 euros) and a beautiful brooch, lit by small circular cut rubies (3,000-5,000 euros). The medal of Giorgio Facchini, created by the artist on the occasion of the seventeenth Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto in 1974, is one of only 140 copies produced for the event (2.500-4.500).

Inspired by the laws of mechanics is Sebastiano Balbo’s signature of 1993 Mechanics, decorated in the center with a brilliant cut diamond (5,000-7,000). The auction includes a group of five lots produced by Germano Alfonsi, enriched with animal and mythological engravings and a brooch made by Pietro Consagra, inspired by his sculptures (1,000-2,000). A geometric design characterizes the Genovese and Mariani productions of the seventies. A small work of art is the pendant Comprèssion made by Cèsar (6,000-8,000). This selection of artist’s jewelery is matched with the example of a necklace with a futuristic design in steel and glass signed by Buccellati (1.000-2.000) and the set by Pomellato.
But the auction also includes jewelry signed by traditional Maison, such as Bulgari, Cartier and Boucheron.

Corinna Heller is Designer of the Year for Inhorgenta

/

Corinna Heller wins Inhorgenta’s Designer of the Year Award. Here are his jewels ♦ ︎

Inhorgenta’s Designer of the Year Award is won by Corinna Heller. It’s one of the prizes of the Monaco-based jewelery event. A prize that Corinna Heller had already grazed two years ago, when she had arrived among the finalists. Corinna founded her little Maison in 1997 and has since designed around 300 jewels. German, Corinne Heller studied and worked in a small town in Baden-Württemberg, Schwäbisch Gmünd.

But the designer was able to build a personal path, with an immediately recognizable style.

Ring Einsteiner [una pietra] in oro bianco 750 e acquamarina, diamanti taglio brillante
Ring Einsteiner [una pietra] in oro bianco 750 e acquamarina, diamanti taglio brillante
Her jewels have simple lines, often accompanied by symbols like the cross and the heart, but combined in a personal way. She use gold, silver, but also large colored gems or diamonds, or large pearls. The shape of the jewels follows precise geometries, but not excessive, with a marked reference to architecture. The designer considers them objects that must be beautiful even when they are not worn, unlike what happens to accessories or clothes in fashion. Lavinia Andorno

The incredible jewels of the Oscars

//

The Tiffany necklace by Lady Gaga, the diamonds by Damiani and Harry Winston, Messika, Vhernier… these are the jewels of the Oscars 2019 ♦ ︎

Do you know who won the 2019 Oscars? The movie Green Book, etc.? Not only. The Oscars have won them, as far as the image is concerned, great jewels worn by great protagonists. One above all: Lady Gaga, now Tiffany’s reference actress. At the 91th edition of the Academy Awards, the singer and actress wore a truly timeless jewel: the 128.54-carat Tiffany Diamond. It is one of the biggest yellow diamonds in the world. And it has a incredible story: the Tiffany Diamond was worn last time by Audrey Hepburn for the promotion of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

The Tiffany Diamond is considered one of the most important stones: it was discovered in 1877 in the Kimberley Mines in South Africa.

The founder of the Maison, Charles Lewis Tiffany, bought the diamond the following year, confirming the authoritativeness of Tiffany & Co. in the field of diamonds. In short, Lady Gaga, who also wore a pair of earrings with white and yellow diamonds, also by Tiffany, has attracted attention.
But it would be unfair to forget other beautiful jewels seen during the ceremony. A touch of Italy brought Willem Dafoe and Giada Colagrande, who chose to wear the Maison Damiani creations. Willem Defoe, after winning the Volpi Cup for the best male performance at the last Venice Film Festival, was nominated for an Oscar with an understanding of Vincent van Gogh in the film by Julian Schnabel, Van Gogh – Sulla threshold of eternity. He wore the Metropolitan twins by Damiani.

The American actor’s wife, Giada Colagrande, Italian recording and actress, joined her husband wearing Shirodara earrings and pendant in diamonds and aquamarine and, to complete the look, the Ricciolo ring in white gold and diamonds.

About diamonds: a cascade of diamonds is the one signed by Harry Winston. Helen Mirren, presenter, wore the Winston Cluster Suite, for a total of over 235 carats. This treasure in the form of jewelry consists of the necklace with Cluster Winston diamonds, 136.66 carats, set in platinum, the bracelet Winston Cluster Diamond, 79.08 carat, set in platinum, earrings with diamonds Winston Cluster, 22.02 carats, also these set in platinum.

Also with Harry Winston have seen Laura Dern, Jennifer Hudson and Sarah Paulson.

Laura Dern, another presenter, has walked over 115 carats of Harry Winston Diamonds: a necklace with Cascading diamond cascade, 53.99 carats, set in platinum, vintage bracelet 1959 with diamonds, 57.30 carat, set in platinum, diamond 4.07 carats earstuds, set in platinum, band ring in micropavé with diamonds, 14 karat, set in platinum, Brilliant Love Diamond Band Ring, with diamond, set in platinum. Jennifer Hudson, who performed during the ceremony, wore vintage 1972 diamond chandelier earrings, 29.59 carat, set in platinum, while actress Sarah Paulson Harry Winston’s 55.70-carat Guipure diamond necklace set in platinum and a brilliant round earring with diamond microspheres, 3.49 carats, set in platinum. Finally, Linda Cardellini (Italian name, but American), who was part of the cast of Green Book, wore diamonds from Harry Winston’s wedding collections, Belle and The One: Belle Diamond earrings, 4.68 carats, set in platinum , ring with a cushion cut diamond, 3.07 carats, set in platinum.

Many diamonds also for those who chose Messika. Like model Lais Ribeiro, who wore the 27th Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party. In particular, the model chose the Flappers choker from the Paris est Une Fête collection and the iconic Glam’Azone ring. The model also chose to wear Messika at the Vanity Fair Oscar After Party, in this case with the High Jewels Persian Drops earrings and a double Glam’Azone ring. Also in Messika is the model and actress Karolina Kurkov, with the Move High Jewelry Addiction choker from the Messika collection by Gigi Hadid, the My Twin multishapes earrings, the Move 10th Anniversary bracelet and a large Move ring. Finally, the American singer and ballerina Ciara chose Messika with the iconic Glam’Azone bracelet at the Vanity Fair Oscar After Party. And Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore Vhernier Pirouette’s ring for the Oscar Party Vanity Fair in Beverly Hills.

Oscar and so on. After the award ceremony Beyoncé and Jay-Z, they organized an exclusive after party. And for the occasion, Katy Perry wore Messika jewelry. The famous American singer has worn the Sirenetta earrings of the Once Upon a Time collection. Giulia Netrese

12 million for one oval

/

A large 88-carat oval diamond will be auctioned at Sotheby’s ♦ ︎

Lovers of large gemstones have a date to mark on the calendar: 2 April. On that day, in Hong Kong, Sotheby’s will put an oval diamond defined as “perfect according to each criterion”. It is, in fact, a stone not common: it is an oval diamond of type IIa of 88.22 carats, color D. The diamond was made from a raw stone of 242 carats mined in the De Beers mine, in Jwaneng, in Botswana. The stone is valued between 11.2 and 12.7 million dollars.

A curious aspect is that the sale in Hong Kong also has a superstitious reason.

Il diamante ovale da 88 carati messo all'asta
Il diamante ovale da 88 carati messo all’asta

The stone weighs 88 carats and the number eight in Asia is considered lucky: it is also a symbol of perfection and eternity. A double 8 is therefore considered a super lucky charm. Last year, in April 2018, Sotheby sold a 102.34 carat white diamond, but without communicating the price. And two impeccable D-type diamonds of color D, weighing 51.71 carats and 50.39 carats, were sold in Geneva for $ 9.3 million and $ 8.1 million.

The jewels of the Grammy Awards

The jewels of the Grammy Awards: Harry Winston and Tiffany shine with Lady Gaga and … ♦ ︎

Like all the red carpets, the awards and the grand galas, even the Grammy Awards were an opportunity to see big and small stars. A fortiori, given that the Grammys are considered a prize among the most important in the United States, awarded for results in the music industry. In practice, it is considered as the equivalent of the Oscar prizes in the world of cinema. For example, at the 2019 edition that took place in Los Angeles won the country singer Kacey Musgraves, the hip-hop of Kendrick Lamar, followed closely by the Canadian Drake, Kacey Musgraves, Childish Gambino …

But the Awards were also an opportunity to admire clothes and jewels. Here are some.

Camilla Cabello, vying for the Pop Vocal Album & Pop Solo Performance category, wore Harry Winston earrings with morganite, spinel and cluster diamonds for 30.59 carats, on gold and platinum. Also the presenter Nina Dobrev was covered by jewels of the American Maison: 10.26 carat Winston Cluster Diamond earrings on platinum, diamond brooch, diamond micropavé ring on platinum. And to parade on the red carpet a diamond ring of 8.13 carats always on platinum, a ring with princess cut diamond, and two rings with brilliant cut diamonds. Alicia Keys, on the other hand, opted for a necklace of mother-of-pearl signed Bulgari. And Katy Perry showed up with Djula’s mismatched earrings.
Earrings of the Tiffany City HardWear collection, instead, for Janelle Monae, American singer-songwriter, actress and model. But the wow effect was reserved for Lady Gaga, with a Tiffany necklace with diamonds over 100 carats. Much brighter than an award … Giulia Netrese

The jewels of Sanremo Festival

The jewels of the Sanremo Festival: Damiani for Patty Pravo, Arisa between Salvini and Marco Bicego, Foglietta with Pasquale Bruni … ♦ ︎

Many years ago the Sanremo Festival, the main Italian musical competition, was a show that lasted three evenings and elected a song as the winner. Then, the show lengthened and the stage of the Ariston theater in Sanremo also became a catwalk for clothes, signed by great fashion brands, or simply a bit extravagant. Now the Sanremo festival has also become a show for jewels. In fact, there are not a few Maison that choose a match with the singers in the race.

For example, Patty Pravo performed with her song wearing Damiani’s rings.

The singer, in fact, wore the unique pieces of the Eden collection in gold and diamonds, in the white gold and diamonds version and in the rose gold and black ceramic version. Arisa, winner in 2009, is instead less faithful: she has returned to the Ariston stage with the Maharaja ring in white gold with Salvini diamonds. But also the Jaipur collection by Marco Bicego. Also noteworthy is the choice of Anna Foglietta, protagonist of the Dopofestival nights: she chose the jewels of Pasquale Bruni, high Made in Italy jewelry.

The jewels of the year of the pig

/

The jewelry in the shape of a pig, the animal of 2019 according to the Chinese horoscope ♦ ︎

There are animals that reign on Facebook or Instagram: cats, dogs, but also lions and horses. They are loved by everyone and attract avalanches of clicks. Other animals, however, do not have the same consideration, even if they then (unwillingly) play a role in the food chain. The pig is one of these.

Fortunately, even the pig has its moments of glory. For example, the Chinese horoscope assigns the 2019 to the sign of the pig (豬). In the Chinese zodiac the pink animal occurs every 12 years. But do not think it’s that simple. According to tradition there are five types of pigs: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. Ok, for Westerners this is not very understandable, but it is so.

Not many jewelers are inspired by this humble, kind and too good animal. But someone has created jewelry with this subject.

We have selected some pig-shaped jewels. For example, the ring of the animalier line by Roberto Coin, or the brooch by David Webb with a pig with wings or, again, that of a Chinese designer, Lauren-X-Khoo. A fitting tribute to the pig, which can sometimes be very precious even worn. Lavinia Andorno

The second life of Erin Wasson

From supermodel to designer jewelry (she is not the only): the second life of Erin Wasson ♦

Erin Wasson is one of the supermodels (and actress) who decided to convert their careers to jewelry. American (born in Irvin, Texas, in 1982), she could not do based in other countries: in the States, particularly in Los Angeles, she launched his brand, Wasson End. The design, for the truth, Erin Wasson has already tried. First he debuted in the fashion industry as a designer for Alexander Wang, who is a great friend of his. Then, with a jewelry line designed for LowLuv.

Pendente in oro giallo 14 carati con diamante

Then, however, he decided to go it alone, with the jewelry she loves almost as much as his tattoos. A landmark is the Swedish design, simple, straightforward, no frills. But, at the same time, for her first collection she has her style: it’s hand-wrought gold, some small diamond embedded in the metal, and a bit of lightness spirit. The jewels have an almost lunar surface, dotted with small craters that are used to move the volumes and shadows. A pair of earrings have a price ranging from a little over a thousand dollars to 4280. Giulia Netrese

A hi-tech platform for jewelers

Technology to the rescue of the overly traditional world of jewelry: a platform arrives to use the blockchain ♦ ︎

An international platform for companies that want to innovate in the jewelry business. To promote it are two subjects that have ties with the world of jewelry: Czar Capital and Eternity Ventures. The first is a financial company, an investment vehicle owned by the Kothari family, which controls high jewelery brands such as Entice and Vak. Eternity Ventures is a hi-tech company founded by a family that has five decades of industry knowledge and describes itself as a “decentralized incubator for blockchain startups that create applications on the æternity platform”. In short, a company that promotes activities related to technology.

Blockchain technology has been adopted by other companies in the sector, such as De Beers. For jewelry, the function of a blockchain is to keep a safe track of all the steps of a product, for example gold or precious stones.

De Beers, anello della linea Awakening
De Beers, anello della linea Awakening

In short, from what we can understand, the platform is aimed at companies that want to use the traceability system of jewelry, metals or stones, but do not have the ability to create a network based on the blockchain system.

“As stakeholders in this field, we are motivated to support new ideas and entrepreneurs. It is our responsibility to stimulate and encourage our colleagues to look beyond what many talented individuals consider to be a stagnant and traditional activity “was the joint statement by the two companies to present the initiative.

“Regardless of whether you are an entrepreneur with funding requirements or a semi-funded start-up looking for value-added partners, the Jewelry Innovations platform could be the right platform. The goal is to accelerate the ideas of success in our sector “.

GemGenève increases the number of exhibitors

The news of the next edition of GemGenève: the number of exhibitors rises by 22% ♦ ︎

While VicenzaOro is still underway and while Baselworld warms up its engines to prepare for its toughest appointment, the GemGenève backoffice is at work. Many wondered whether the first edition of the gem and jewelery trade show, organized in May 2018, would be followed by a second one. The answer is yes: the second edition of GemGenève will be held from 9 to 12 May 2019 at the Geneva Palaexpo.

The new appointment also has a theme: Find and Feel, to emphasize the importance of direct experience even in a period dominated by the digital.

Gioielli d'epoca
Gioielli d’epoca a GemGenève 2018

GemGenève has been an idea of two industry veterans, Thomas Faerber and Ronny Totah, who operate in Geneva. The event was also an initiative in controversy with Baselworld, a fair in the crosshairs of many jewelry operators because of the high costs required for participation. It has had a good success, with about 4300 visitors, 50% non-Swiss (including the journalists of gioiellis.com).
GemGenève, in fact, is a formula that has convinced many. Jewelers, antique dealers and precious stones merchants find themselves in a smaller space than large fairs, but very specialized. And so the number of exhibitors for 2019 is 22% increase compared to 2018: there are about 180 houses already registered for the new edition, personally selected by Thomas Faerber and Ronny Totah.

The 2019 will also see the continuation of the collaboration of GemGenève with the school of art and design of Geneva, Head, with a special project for students supported by the exhibitor Charles Abouchar. The Designer Showcase, renamed as Designer Vivarium, has been expanded to include new artists not yet known in contemporary international jewelery. Among other things, GemGenève 2019 will take place during the same period of the main jewelery auctions in Geneva, those of Sotheby’s and Christie’s. The premises for a repeat of success are there.

Faraone Mennella has conquered New York

The Faraone Mennella jewels have won New York, starting from Naples.

Starting from Italy, from Naples, to seek his fortune in the United States. It is a story told many times. In a few cases, however, it was fortunate enough as to Roberto Faraone Mennella and Amedeo Scognamiglio. Suffice it to say that after 15 years the brand Faraone Mennella is fully recognized among those of fine jewelry, with headquarters on Fifth Avenue, in New York.

They, who also founded the brand Amedeo, specializing in revisited cameo (we talked about here), they have achieved success with a simple recipe, but effective: focus on high quality and identify Faraone Mennella jewelry to a specific target customers, those who attend Capri, or Miami, Saint Barts. Furthermore, Amadeo has behind him a family tradition in jewelry, in Torre del Greco, while Roberto studied design at Parsons School. In short, the team has worked well, starting with an investment of just $ 5,000 apiece. Knowing Patricia Field, costume designer of the TV series Sex and the City is been another point in their favor. The style: rich, of course, but also with a grace that was affected by the great Italian goldsmith tradition, Neapolitan in particular. Only, adapted to the tastes of American women. Here are some examples of their work. Alessia Mongrando

Full and empty by Marijoli

From Switzerland to Hong Kong: the history of the brand Marijoli by the designer Marielle Byworth.

From the peaks of Switzerland to the tops of the skyscrapers of Tokyo and Hong Kong. Marielle Byworth after studying at the Graphic Art School of Swiss Romande (Erag) and at University of Art and Design of Lausanne, she moved to Hong Kong. As a jewelry designer, however, Marielle she has been dedicated for years to create bespoke pieces, or for other Maison. Until 2005, when she moved to Tokyo and launched her first collection, Elema, and its brand Marijoli. She immediately makes goal: rounded shapes and use the volumes have appeared immediately original.

Marijoli, bracciale in oro
Marijoli, bracciale in oro

To want to be disrespectful, yellow gold surfaces pierced with circles of different sizes suggest the typical Swiss cheese, Emmenthal: who knows that is not an unconscious reminder of the roots of the designer. In any case, this unusual skill in playing with tradition and innovation has added the mixed use of precious and semi precious materials like volcanic lava, combined with black onyx in Purple collection. Or diamonds combined with black vinyl, rubies coupled with wood. Returned to Hong Kong, she has not lost the ability to innovate, and has been appreciated by some celebrities who wore her jewelry on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival. Lavinia Andorno

Cheers with Choon

The collections made in Thailand by Choon Jewelry: warm colors and compositional amusement.

The goal is not modest: “We want to be the best jewelry manufacturer in the world.” It is appropriate to make a toast to the health of such a program. And to say that Choon Jewelry Company was founded in 1984 with just a plant that manufactured cubic zirconia, synthetic stones that look as diamonds. But in 1993 the entrepreneur Chairat Choon Noppasanti decided to go to step 2: designing and producing jewelry in Bangkog.

For example, in November 2018 Choon launched the Oper collection, which mainly uses amethyst. For Valentine’s Day 2019, however, has focused on pink sapphire.

Today the company employs over 500 employees, who are divided between craftsmanship and jewelry manufacturing. Choon makes a bit ‘of everything: gold jewelry 8k, 9k, 10k, 14k and 18k, but also in platinum and rhodium-plated silver, with cubic zirconia, but also semi-precious stones. If Choon has become the best jewelry manufacturer in the world can be a topic of discussion, but in any case the collection of rings and earrings for the 2016-2017 autumn-winter, made of gold and stones like amethyst, quartz, citrine, orange sapphires, has the advantage of being warm, with soft colors and tested shapes. Those who produce jewelry will be interested to know that Choon boasts the certification of ISO 9001 quality Lavinia Andorno

The alternative of Anna Barbara

The provocation of Anna Barbara: with the design she creates necklaces and earrings reusing the poor materials ♦ ︎

Jewels produced / cut from fresh bricks. A collection of lost lenses. Jewels made with industrial waste. Let’s say the truth: only an avant-garde project can replace sapphires and gold, diamonds and lapis lazuli in the imagination of a jewelry designer. This minimalist, somewhat provocative way is the one followed by Anna Barbara, founder of the SenseLab architecture studio in Milan. Graduated in architecture, designer, Anna Barbara aims to be a reference to the circular economy, that is to say the principle that nothing is thrown away.

Bricks, quarry stone or beached debris: with an echo to Jonathan Safran Foer, “everything is illuminated with new life”.

These humble materials are transformed into rings, necklaces, pendants and earrings. The Mare Nostrum collection, subdivided into Rosita, Titanic and Migrante, alludes to the difficulties, but also to the cultural context of migrations. Also for this reason the poor jewels (of materials) and rich jewels (of ideas) become an alternative reference point and a message. Giulia Netrese

Nikos Koulis, poetry is geometry

//

The Universe Line collection by Nikos Koulis: geometry becomes poetry (thanks to a patent) ♦ ︎

Celebrated, rewarded, cuddled: Nikos Koulis is undoubtedly one of the jewelery designer that have come under the spotlight. Not only for the technical ability, which allows him to realize in many cases surprising jewels, but also because he has managed to offer his own language, an aesthetic perfectly distinct from the mainstream of rose gold and diamonds. His jewels have geometric shapes, rigorous, but at the same time with a strong spatiality.

The Universe Line collection by Nikos Koulis, for example, is composed of exceptional elaborate pieces, which sum up the capacity of a master of design.

It is not by chance that the jewels of this collection, in white gold, diamonds with clear and translucent enamel, use an innovative patented technique that has allowed to bind the different materials used. For the necklace in this collection, Nikos Koulis received the 2018 Couture Design Award in the Haute Couture category. Impossible not to admire the composition that seems out of a Nordic kaleidoscope. Instead it was conceived in Athens … Cosimo Muzzano

Unstoppable Monica Vinader

///

The unstoppable success of Monica Vinader, with the jewels that also like Kate Middleton ♦ ︎

Quality jewelry, but without exaggeration. The fine jewelery with collections that cost from a few hundred euros up to about 2000 or 3000 euros are the kingdom of british Monica Vinader. Kingdom is the right word when one considers that they are among the favorite jewels of Kate Middleton, who wears them when she is not engaged in regal ceremonies. In short, jewels for every day, but with a class search.
It is no coincidence, therefore, if Monica Vinader sells jewelry for about 50 million euros a year, with an annual growth of 21%.

Set di anelli impilabili con amazonite, quarzo rosa, cianite

The brand employs 220 people all over the world, with 48 employees in London and 54 in Norfolk. A success that convinced her to plan an expansion plan after the 15 stores opened in the United Kingdom, America and Asia-Pacific. In short, from Great Britain to conquer the rest of the world.

And to say that she and her sister Gabriela started in a small workshop in Norfolk, in 2007. Objective: to bridge the space between jewelry and fashion. Instead of jewelry with diamonds in gold and pavé of 14 or 10 carats, Monica Vinader uses 18 carat gold-plated sterling silver and semi-precious stones. Although now, with her success, it has also introduced some more expensive and valuable pieces. In general, however, its jewels are affordable luxury, but not trinkets. Jewels to wear with jeans, but also with the elegant dress to go to the cinema or to go to the office. Moreover, one of the keys to success is the possibility of stacking rings and bracelets. And, thanks to an app, those who buy a jewel can personalize it with an engraving. Giulia Netrese

Caterina Murino, homage to Sardinia

//

The actress Caterina Murino presents a new collection inspired by the colors of her Sardinia ♦ ︎

From bond girl to jewelry designer, but without forgetting the profession that made her famous: the actress. Caterina Murino, after the debut in the jewelry world, which has had a positive reception, continues on the path of the precious world. The new collection, Mirto, is inspired by his land: Sardinia. But do not think that jewelry is a simple hobby: Caterina Murino has studied gemmology, and in the family has an aunt with a jewelry in Cagliari. She also participated in a trip to Sri Lanka, organized by gemologist Patrick Voillot to see closely the extraction of precious stones.

From Sri Lanka she brought raw sapphires which she mounted with the stones held in gold threads.

The new collection has pieces reminiscent of wild peony, or myrtle, a shrub that gives purple berries also used to make a liqueur. But jewels are also a tribute to traditional Sardinian costumes, such as chokers and filigree work, a tradition of the island.
It should be added that Caterina Murino’s jewels are also intended for the cinema: the actress played a leading role in the new film by David and Raphael Vital-Durand and she also wore her jewels on stage. Giulia Netrese

From the Amazon to Thais Bernardes

/

The Amazonian lianas inspire the new collection of Thais Bernardes ♦ ︎

Thais Bernardes, from fashion shows on catwalks to colored pencils on a desk. The former Brazilian model has reinvented herself as a jewelry designer and now launches the new collection: Cipó. The name is inspired by a typical plant of the forests and considered sacred to the natives of the Amazon. The cipò (from the tupi language: ysypó) is a sort of liana. In spite of the name, however, the jewels are not shaped like a vegetable rope.

The collection includes rings, earrings and bracelets (including a special hand bracelet) made of gold-plated silver and burnished silver.

Thais Bernardes, always sensitive to the rights of the natives, has decided to donate part of the proceeds from the sale of this collection to Survival International, a worldwide movement for indigenous peoples, which since 1969 has helped them to defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their future independently. You can buy them in Milan by Brian & Barry Building or online. Lavinia Andorno
