Love is Puro with Recarlo

/

Love interpreted in Recarlo’s Anniversary collection with the Puro and Platino lines. Images and price ♦ ︎
Love, if it is not pure, is not love. And if it is pure, it deserves to be certified. With a small golden seal. With this in mind, one of the most attentive Italian Maison dedicated to love and anniversaries, Recarlo, offers two special series of the Anniversary collection. One is called, precisely, Anniversary Puro, while the other Anniversary Platinum. The Maison also states that it’s pure also the diamond used: in particular, the stones mounted on rings and earrings are of IF class, the rarest in the world. But, as anticipated, the Puro line is also distinguished by the 24 carat gold seal that accompanies every jewel.
The Platinum line, instead, as you can easily guess is made with the finest metal, a classic for the rings with diamonds. This type of rings is marked by the Platinum engraving inside the stem, flanked by a small diamond. Obviously smaller than that mounted with four or six claws on the outside of the ring. A couple of indicative prices: a 0.75 carat Puro pendant has a cost of 10.820 euros, a 0.84 carat diamond ring 13.150. 1 carat up price on request. Alessia Mongrando

The gift for the first love with Bliss’s Primo Amore collection. Earrings, ring, necklace in white gold and diamonds. Images and price ♦ ︎
If, as the saying goes, the first love is never forgotten, then even the first jewel of the first love will remain as the first memory. The Bliss Primo Amore collection thinks about young people who know each other, like each other, get together and, almost inevitably, make gifts. The collection is presented in 2018 with some additions, which makes it richer and perhaps more romantic: flowers, stars, hearts are the forms of love and collection. Which comes with jewels that are worthy of a gift of some importance and, above all, of a first love: earrings, necklaces and rings are made of white gold with small, but bright, diamonds in the center. In short, the classic combination for jewelry related to feelings or important events. The first love is often accompanied by a not yet perfect realization in the world of work. The collection, for this reason, is suitable for those who must or want to keep the bank account under control: prices start, in fact, from € 299 to go up to € 359 for earrings that have more than one diamond. Salvini with 6 prongs

Rings in white gold and diamonds stopped by six prongs: the classic world of Salvini with the Lavinia collection ♦ ︎
At the end of the nineteenth century a new way of mounting the diamond on a diamond ring spread: instead of four prongs, the stone began to be stopped by six prongs. In reality, the four-brand system continues to be used. But the rings with a diamond stopped by four brands have many fans. The six closing points are generally lighter and thinner than those used in the four version. Although a small area of the stone, sideways, is covered by metal, six are evenly spaced around the edge of the round diamond, forming a hexagonal shape that makes the stone a little larger when viewed from a distance. In short, it makes a diamond a little more important. And this is the path chosen by Salvini for his Lavinia collection.

The rings with one, three or five diamonds are made with the classic white gold and the equally classic brilliant. Prices for a solitaire start at 1700 euros, with the lowest carat of 0.25 carats, class G, to go up to about 2,700 euros for a ring trilogy for 0.75 carats. Lavinia Andorno

Faraone Casa d’Aste, the top lot is a sapphire

From Faraone Casa d’Aste the jewels come back, with a rare sapphire of Kashmir ♦ ︎
The jewelery and watch auctions in Milan are back with a collection of over 300 lots that will be beaten on May 14 by Faraone Casa d’Aste. Also on this occasion the sale will take place at the Four Seasons. And it promises to be an interesting event for enthusiasts and collectors. The historic Milanese company also notes the growing trust of the owners of pieces for sale, given that the number of lots is more than 240 in November and 160 in May 2017.
Among the pieces in the catalog, and among the many rings, there are two in particular. The first ring, in platinum, has mounted a sapphire from Kashmir, one of the rarest gems in the world since the mine has been used up for decades. The stone has a cushion cut and weighs about 9 carats, surrounded by diamonds. On the second ring there is a 13-carat Colombian emerald, wrapped in baguette-cut diamonds. In addition to these two pieces, in particular a platinum pin, punched by Monture Cartier, with a 3.10 carat Colombian emerald placed in the center of a play of platinum bands covered with 8.20 ct. of cut diamonds in old cut and baguettes. Always among the most popular choices is a set of Van Cleef & Arpels consisting of ring and earrings in platinum with 14 carats of brilliant cut diamonds and 15 carats of round rubies, plus a bracelet always in platinum with 5 sapphires for a total of 22 carats, surrounded by as many carats of baguette and brilliant diamonds. Furthermore, in the catalog there is a ring in platinum punched Bulgari with a central cut diamond of about 3 carats, surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette for others about 3 carats, and a Cartier ring, with fancy yellow octagonal diamond weighing 3,09 carats with two lateral triangular diamonds weighing about 1 carat, accompanied by its original case.
What time is it
The second part of the auction is dedicated to the fans of the lancets. There are about fifty watches for sale, including a Rolex Daytona Patrizzi ref 16520 caliber 4030, with steel case and bracelet oyster, desired by collectors for the unique color variation of the three counters on the dial, due to the natural oxidation of silver , which make it particularly coveted. In addition to other Rolex, there is also an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ref. 25770ST steel and a rare Santos Dumont Louis Cartier Ultra-Thin.

Sotheby’s, a ruby is the winner

In Hong Kong the Sotheby’s auction in the sign of rubies and diamonds, the jade flop ♦ ︎
There are no longer the seasons of the past and not even the collectors of the past. Sotheby’s top lot at the Hong Kong auction, the perfect Circle of Heaven jade bracelet, did not find a buyer at the Magnificent Jewels auction, which totaled $ 48.6 million. The bracelet was valued at between 10.2 and 12.8 million dollars, but did not reach the minimum required. And to say that, according to Chinese tradition, jade is the “stone of paradise” which, together with the circular shape, provided the bracelet with a patent of perfection. The initial estimate is too high, obviously.
But it was not the only auction flop. A diamond of brilliant color, impeccable, of 17,63 carats, estimated at 2,8 million, was unsold, as a Cartier ring with a 14.72 carat brilliant cut Colombian emerald and brilliant cut diamonds (estimate up to 1.4 million) and even a ring with a 14.18 carat fancy blue diamond surrounded by rose diamonds, estimated at between 5.9 and 7.6 million dollars.
But of course, there were also jewels sold well. The most quoted was found to be a ring with a Burmese cut-cushion ruby weighing 24.70 carats, set in a pear-shaped diamond outline. And with a stem covered with a pavé of brilliant cut pink diamonds. It was sold for 11 million, as expected. In second place for value, there are a pair of pear cut diamond earrings sold for 3 million dollars, while a ring with fancy yellow 30.16 carat diamond has totaled 2.8 million and a pink-violet diamond-cut cushion of 5 carats was awarded for 2.5 million. Finally, a ring with a vivid yellow-orange diamond with an emerald cut of 10.30 carats, set between two tapered baguette diamonds, found a buyer for 1.4 million. Federico Graglia

Sold the Diamond Legend

/

The world’s fifth largest diamond, The Lesotho Legend, is sold for 40 million dollars ♦
In which jewels will the fifth largest diamond in the world be transformed? The diamond, 910 carats, perfect, color D, type IIa, was extracted in January from the Letšeng mine in Lesotho. Just over a month later it was sold to Antwerp, Beglio, world capital of diamonds, for 40 million. The diamond has been nicknamed The Lesotho Legend and now belongs to the Gem Diamonds mining company. But perhaps it was a bargain: the price of the diamond sale, in fact, was 43.956 dollars per carat, that is a figure much lower than the record price touched for a rough diamond, ie 77.649 dollars, established by Constellation, stone of 812 , 77-carat, extracted years ago by Lucara Diamond in Botswana. Who is the new owner of the fifth largest diamond in the world? It is called Samir Gems, and it’s a stone broker based in Antwerp, founded in 1982 and managed by the Indian family Bhansali, who bought the stone together with other partners. All that remains is to wait for the birth of an equally exceptional jewel. Rudy Serra

Bigli, this collection scratches

/

The Chloé collection of the Belgian brand Bigli offers jewelry with scratched stones. To wear with ripped blue jeans? ♦
Think about it: if the blue jeans are torn, bruised, mistreated, why can not jewels also follow the same fate? And that is, to appear profoundly used? It is perhaps the reasoning that followed Laurence Aerens and Thierry Spitaels, mind and soul of a Belgian brand but with Italian sound: Bigli. Their latest Chloé collection, in fact, presents stones that have a surface full of scratches, scrupulously made.
The couple of designers in the profession and in life has created their brand of fine jewelry in 1998 and has always been tuned by the trends of the moment, with the aim of offering simple jewels, which can be worn with a sporty or elegant outfit for day or night. 18-karat gold, tiny diamonds and large colored semi-precious stones, such as smoky quartz, moonstone or agate. Prices are in line with the type of jewelry, for example, in a range between 1500 and 2500 euros for rings. With or without scratches. Lavinia Andorno

A maxi diamond at Sotheby’s

Sotheby’s sells a maxi 100 ct round diamond in London ♦ ︎
Do you have any savings? Are you bored of buying the usual earrings from the jeweler at home? Would you like to stand out? Here’s the right opportunity, provided you have around thirty million dollars. In London, Sotheby’s is solding an outstanding colorless 102.34 carat diamond. It is considered by experts as the greatest and purest of all time, the rarest white diamond arrived on the market. But the auction house decided not to auction the precious stone. Those who want to buy it can go directly to Sotheby’s, in New Bond Street, London. The sale price is expected to exceed 30 million dollars, which is the current auction record for a white diamond, achieved in 2013 in a Sotheby’s sale in Hong Kong.
The diamond for sale has a round, brilliant cut, and has obtained the highest marks for cut, color and transparency of the Gemological Institute of America. In short, it is free of defects and has been classified as type 11a. Diamonds of this type, even if small, are less than 2% of all the diamonds extracted. The stone was made from an even larger 425-carat diamond found in a De Beers mine in Botswana. Six months of work were needed to cut this giant diamond.
According to Patti Wong, founder and president of Sotheby’s Diamonds, “This stone is over 100 carats of flawless perfection. In the course of my long career, which has brought me close to some of the greatest stones the earth has ever yielded, I have not encountered anything quite like this. With its outstanding weight, its perfect colour, clarity and cut, it is a masterpiece of nature brought to life by human hand, blazing with a brilliant firework-like display of almost every colour on the spectrum – mesmerising to behold. It is a huge privilege to mark the first anniversary of our London Salon with the exhibition of such a superlative stone.” Federico Graglia

Valentine’s Day arrives, comes the right-duty to give a jewel, it’s time to choose. On February 14th it became a key event for jewelers, especially those who have their focus on the classic production of rings and necklaces. A classic, for example, is the proposal of Salvini (brand of the Damiani group) that presents the solitary Battito. The ring is composed of a brilliant enclosed in a system of jaws modeled on the design of the heart. The symbol of love also appears on the bottom of the setting, in contact with the finger, as if it were an eternal promise. The small diamond is on the outer stem. Another particularity is the frame with pink gold stick, much used by Salvini. Price starting from 745 euros, according to the diamond carats. Alessia Mongrando

The Supernature of Solange Azagury-Partridge

/

The jewels of the Supernature collection by the imaginative Solange Azagury-Partridge ♦ ︎
The Romans, in antiquity, loved to repeat the phrase «nomen omen». Words mean something like “the name is an omen” or “a name, a destiny”. You can start from here to understand the work of the London designer Solange Azagury-Partridge. Her name is quite unusual as her work in jewelry. If there is someone who has been able to innovate in recent years, well she is. Her latest collection is called Supernature and is inspired by the elements that, according to the ancients, composed nature: Fire, Air, Water, Earth, Ether. On these elements Solange has created jewels that are not only very rich and imaginative, but that also contain a hint of humor. As in the case of the Storm necklace, with white and blackened gold bangs that descend from a thundercloud, made with a curved labradorite. Also the Storm ring, on the other hand, has a large labradorite in the center, set between diamond lightning. Then there are the stalactites of diamonds and white gold, the flowers, the icicles… So many jewels, lots of ideas, lots of creativity. What do you ask for more by Solange? Margherita Donato

A 2017 with records for Christie’s

2017 was a golden year for Christie’s jewels, with a burst of records ♦
The end of the year is when the balance sheets of the past 12 months are made. It is a delicate moment and not always (or, better, often) this analysis is made public. As far as the jewelery world is concerned, this applies even more. A veil of confidentiality always hides the affairs of the great Maison and of the players in the sector. But not in one case: when business is good. Indeed, super good. This is the time, as regards 2017, of Christie’s, the great auction house also involved in the jewelry business. Christie’s, in fact, has made public the balance of the jewelry auctions that, the numbers confirm, is really flattering: 24 years as a leader of auctions of jewels. In fact, in 2017, Christie’s sold jewels for 556.7 million dollars. Among other things, online sales are also up (8.9 million), even if the lion’s share is still traditional auctions (547.8 million).
In this complex there are also a series of records, Christie’s proudly claims. For example, the world record for an Art Nouveau and Art Deco collection of a single owner, sold 100%, for a total of 12.4 million. Or the world record for an impeccable D-color diamond, achieved with the The Art of de Grisogono necklace, sold for 33.7 million dollars. Another success was the record auction price per carat reached for a pink diamond achieved with The Pink Promise (32.2 million dollars) and, to remain always in the same shade of diamonds, the record for the most historic diamond ever sold auctioned with Le Grand Mazarin (14.4 million).
“From the historic sale of The Rockefeller Emerald to Le Grand Mazarin and from de Grisogono’s 163.41 carat D Flawless diamond to the Pink Promise, 2017 has been a stellar year for jewelry at Christie’s. Nine new world record prices were achieved at our sales worldwide driven by intense competition from collectors who bid at the highest levels for important diamonds, rare gems and jewels, and superb objects. We
also saw immense growth in our Online sales which encouraged clients to enjoy the auction experience at all price points. As we move into 2018, our global team of jewelry specialists look forward to bringing to market the very best jewels for our clients.””said Rahul Kadakia, international jewelry manager, Christie’s. Who, probably, hopes to do an encore in 2018. Federico Graglia

Bliss in motion

Diamonds alone, but in movement: the Moving Light collection by Bliss. Images and prices ♦ ︎
It seems a paradox, but the solitary world is very crowded. Of course, we mean not the lonely humans, the people who love or are forced to stay alone, but the jewels. That is, that kind of rings, but also necklaces, etc., which are designed to accommodate a single stone, a diamond that shines, in fact, solitary. But precisely for this reason it draws the eye on itself. This is the classic case of the engagement ring, perhaps given when he asks her to marry him. More generally, these rings or these jewels are gifts linked to a passion, an anniversary, an anniversary.
And here we are at the Moving Light collection by Bliss (brand of the Damiani group). But the real peculiarity is the mobile gem (as the name of the collection suggests) inside. In fact, thanks to the special free-moving construction technique, the diamond oscillates freely with every little movement of the wearer, and in this way captures more reflections of light. And now, next to the colliers and earrings already in the collection, Bliss presented two rings, in 18-carat white gold and in the variant of white and pink gold. A gold crown with small diamonds welcomes the moving stone in the center. Prices: a ring in white and pink gold with diamond 799 euro. Pendant 599 euros, earrings 899 euros. Margherita Donato

Harry’s ring for Meghan

/

The engagement ring from Prince Harry to Meghan. And the jewels of the British royal family ♦ ︎
It is official: Prince Harry, 32, will marry Meghan Markle, 36 years old. Wedding sets for the spring of 2018. The couple, as they have told all the media, is not traditional. Divorced she, with her ancestors for nothing of blue blood, while he is sixth in the scale of possible future kings of England, and he is younger. After the wedding of Kate Middleton and William, therefore, the lights are ready to illuminate the next princely marriage. With many questions. For example, which jewelry Meghan Markle will be able to compete with Kate? The game has just started. Cambridge’s Duchess, when he was engaged to William, received a sapphire ring, made by London’s jeweler Garrard, who belonged to the groom’s mother, Diana. Meghan, on the other hand, to her first official Harry promised wedding release, showed a ring made using a diamond from Botswana (where the couple was on vacation) accompanied by two other diamonds from Diana’s personal collection. In short, this is something that connects the future Harry Windsor with the groom’s mother.

Real estate
In short, that is the official engagement ring. In family patrimony, however, in the future Harry could find other jewels. Another family ring, for example, belongs to Princess Margaret, who has a ruby surrounded by diamonds in the center, made by Anthony Armstrong-Jones. There are, of course, many other alternatives in real estate. The Queen Mother, who died in 2002, had two engagement rings. The first was a large gold sapphire, later replaced by a pearl surrounded by diamonds in the 1950s.
Windsor’s rings
With a jump back in time, one could remember another wedding between a real British and an American womand, Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. The king immediately after abdicating gave Wallis (even her divorced) an emerald ring of 19.77 carats. The jewel engraved the words “We are now 27 X 36”, referring to October 27, 1936, the date Wallis obtained his second divorce. The ring belonging to Wallis Simpson was however sold in 1987 for 1, 8 million pounds to a Japanese businessman.
Queen Elizabeth often wears an impressive square cut diamond designed by Prince Phillip. The diamond comes from his mother’s tiara: it is difficult to surrender to Meghan. Yet another ring that is not available is that which belongs to Camilla, wife of Charles, father of Harry. It is an Art Deco ring that formerly belonged to Queen Mother.
Meghan’s jewels
Like Kate Middleton, however, Meghan Markle also loves wearing too precious jewels. For example, in recent years he often wore jewels to a young Australian designer, Natalie Marie, based in Sydney. Natalie sent that to a few months ago was a mere actress some jewels and Meghan posted them on her Instagram account many times with thanksgiving. Margherita Donato

Pink diamond fail

The sale of the pink diamond at Sotheby’s Auction fails: for the precious stones a black day ♦ ︎
The sale of the rose has ended in red, after a rather black day. The Raj Pink, the biggest fancy intense pink diamond, for its rare color, was the strong piece of Wednesday’s auction organized by Sotheby’s in Geneva. But it was not sold. The cushion-shaped stone, weighing 37.30 carats, had a pre-sale estimate of between $ 20 and $ 30 million. But David Bennett, world leader in Sotheby’s jewelery division, had to submit: “It was not sold.” The raises did not exceed 14 million Swiss francs and the jewel was withdrawn. And it was not the only flop. Other high-value lots were withdrawn because they did not meet the stock price set (secretly) by their vendors. Among the unassigned pieces is the blue diamond ring of Moussaieff: the last offer was 12.4 million Swiss francs. Nothing to do for another expected piece: a pair of yellow diamonds previously belonged to the princely German family of Von Donnersmarck. Rewards reached 7.8 million Swiss francs, but no new owners.
The auction, however, was not a failure: 303 lots were sold out of 349. Overall, the sale was $ 77.9 million. Eventually, the top was achieved by a light pink diamond ring made by Harry Winston in 1970, described as a “absolutely extraordinary beautiful stone” by Bennett: sold for 12.6 million Swiss francs to a telephone bidder.
The reasons for the flop
Why is not the Pink Pink sold? “The pieces have to be exceptional to be sold today at the same level as two years ago,” explained to Reuters Eric Valdieu, an experienced jewelery retailer based in Geneva. “It’s a modern, recent stone (extracted in 2015 ndr) and not a 10 to 10 in terms of color and shape. He had no history. ” Tobias Kormind, managing director of 77Diamonds.com, the world’s largest online diamond retailer in Europe, said he was worried about the highest end of the stone market. The Art of de Grisogono sold for 33.7 million

The Grisogono necklace with a 163-carat diamond sold for $ 33.7 million from Christie’s ♦ ︎
Grisogono’s diamond necklace signs a record from Christie’s. The jewel, with a big 163-carat diamond, the largest of its kind sold at auction, was sold for 33.7 million dollars at Christie’s auction in Geneva. The diamond, perfect, colorless, was obtained from a rough stone of 404 carats found in Angola. The diamond is mounted in white gold with other diamonds and emeralds. The necklace was designed by Grisogono, designed personally by the founder and artistic director, Fawaz Gruosi, based in Geneva, and it needed for over 1,700 hours of work to complete it. The necklace has been called The Art of de Grisogono, the identity of the buyer has not been revealed.
Yet a comment by the Bloomberg agency has shown less enthusiasm, although the 33.7 million price seems stratospheric: “I am disappointed that the Art of De Grisogono didn’t sell for a more dazzling price,” said Tobias Kormind, head of 77Diamonds.com, a London-based online jeweler, in a statement. The stone is 40 percent bigger than a diamond Sotheby’s sold in 2013 for about $31 million, he said. “This is a worrying sign for the top end of the diamond market.” Federico Graglia

A de Grisogono boutique on Madison Avenue in New York ♦ ︎
Between Lake Geneva and the Hudson River there is the Atlantic Ocean. Now between the two mirrors there is a bridge: the Maison de Grisogono. The high-end jewelry company founded by Fawaz Gruosi opened a large boutique on a 1,614 square foot area in Midtown Manhattan, at 700 Madison Avenue. Interior decor plays on two colors: white and purple, with a touch of gold. Carrara’s marble, wood, enamels shine under a brass chandelier in Hudson Furniture, in an environment that was designed by David Collins Studio. Among the jewels of the Maison are also exposed some unique pieces exclusive products for the new New York shop. For example, there is a ring with a white diamond heart cut, other white diamonds marquise cut and emeralds on white gold. Alessia Mongrando

The biggest diamond on the finger

The greatest round diamond on a ring will sold by Sotheby’s ♦ ︎
The auction on December 5 in Sotheby’s New York has many jewels of great interest. Among the many excellent pieces of the Magnificent Jewels, stands out the largest round diamond ever sold at auction and mounted on a ring. The image spread by Sotheby’s is impressive and perhaps suggests that the ring can not be really worn and exhibited at a public occasion. The diamond, brilliant cut, weighs 110.92 carats. The ring estimate is between 4.2 and 6.2 million dollars. The stone that has been classified as L-color with VS1 clarity and a good shine, cut and symmetry.
But it is not the only strong piece of the auction. It is worth mentioning a ring with a vivid blue diamond of 5.69 carats, which is sold with an estimated 12 million to 15 million dollars. Also featured is a ring with a large 15-carat Burmese ruby, suggested for an estimate of 2.5 to 3.5 million dollars, or a ring with a rare pink-orange diamond proposed at 1.8-2.2 million dollars. Rare pieces for collectors or investors who close the jewel in a safe. Precious, but perhaps (most probably) more wearable on special occasions are a Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet with diamonds and sapphires rated 1-1.5 million, and a emerald ring, also by the same Maison, belonged to Elizabeth A. Keck, wife of an American oilman: the gem is estimated at $ 250-350,000. In this group it seems almost for discount. Federico Graglia

Good luck with Van Cleef & Arpels

/

New limited edition of Vintage Alhambra pendant by Van Cleef & Arpels ♦ ︎
There are nice and good things that are repeated, such as Christmas sweets, cherry blossoms, or the Game of Thrones series. Another of these habits is that of Van Cleef & Arpels, who regularly presents pieces of the Alhambra collection. In particular, this new limited edition of the Vintage Alhambra pendant. As probably known by gioiellis.com readers, Alhambra is a successful collection of the Parisian Maison, which has been several times renewed since 1968 when was launched the first sautoir. With its gold-beaded jewelery, the collection has established itself as a refined jewel, but at the same time it can be combined easily on different occasions of the day. Here is the limited edition of the Vintage Alhambra pendant, also thought to be a lucky charm, a role that has been playing since the Twentieth Century. The novelty is that the Vintage Alhambra pendant uses for the first time the bull’s eye stone (also called ox eye), that is a variety of quartz rather rare, with a color similar to aged chestnut wood, dark red and brown, with lighter veins. At the center is a round cut diamond. Can carry more luck?
Who knows. Perhaps it may be good to take advantage of the ability to customize the jewel with an incision on the back surface. On the other hand, “to be lucky you have to believe in luck,” said Jacques Arpels, nephew of Estelle Arpels.
