Pink Star sold for 71.2 million

A pink diamond from $ 71.2 million: a record for the Pink Star sold by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong ♥
The irresistible charm of pink. Eventually the Pink Star Diamond has found a buyer. The big diamond auctioned at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong was sold for a price (almost) record: $ 71.2 million. The sale of Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Spring Sale also revealed the name of someone who has such a large portfolios: he is Chow Tai Fook, a Hong Kong trader.
Recently he had torn a wow sale dell’Oppenheimer Blue to 57.5 million sold a year ago by Christie’s in Geneva. The figure of 71.2 million is a record, although in 2013 the diamond was sold for 83 million. But then the bill had not been paid and, therefore, now you can talk about selling top. Sotheby’s, however, did not make a big deal, since that diamond was in budget to 72 million.
The pink star is considered to be type IIa, which is rare for any pink diamond, let alone one of this size and color. It comes from a 132.5-carat rough excerpt from De Beers in 1999. The stone was cut by Steinmetz and so was shoed in 2003 with the name of Steinmetz pink. After, in 2007, the diamond was sold and renamed The Pink Star. The diamond is more than twice the size of the Graff Rosa (24.78 carats) that was previously the largest pink diamond ever sold at auction by Sothebys’ to 46.2 million. Federico Graglia

A heart beats for Christie’s

A Christie’s auction in Geneva will be loved by collectors: in fact at the top there is a heart-shaped diamond ♦
The return of the big auction of jewelry, the return of dreams for who only can only leaf through the catalog, return the attention of collectors and enthusiasts. An important event has already been set: at the Four Seasons in Geneva on May 17, is scheduled the next auction of Magnificent Jewels organized by Christie’s. The hammer of the auctioneer will mark the judgment of some 250 jewelery. Meanwhile, the jewelry will go on tour as a theater company to be seen live: after Hong Kong, are in Rome (5-6 April), London April 10 to 12, in New York April 21 to 25 and May 5 to 8, before returning to Geneva.
As often happens, the center is a diamond. Large, heart-shaped, 92-carat, D, Flawless, signed by Boehmer et Bassenge. La Maison de Haute Joaillerie that debuted last year is already a star of the auctions. He works exclusively with large diamonds and the highest quality. And with these super stones creates equally precious jewels. The diamond in question has been baptized with the name of La Legende. It is part of a sautoir of pearls: the whole is estimated 14 to 20 million dollars. It is the largest D color diamond heart shape, Flawless, offered at auction.
Earrings and rubies
Another piece in the spotlight: La Vie Bohème, a pair of chandelier earrings, each with a large marquise cut diamond in suspension and a bow with pink diamonds. Each drop is D color, flawless clarity, perfectly symmetrical cuts. So much perfection is valued at 2-3 million dollars.
Rubies like this, until the mid-nineteenth century, only the ruler of Burma or an individual deemed worthy by the sovereign could have had a 15 carat stone ring like the one auctioned at Christie’s. The Burmese rubies were not exceeded in quality. Historically were extracted in the Mogok valley, in the northern part of Burma, only two miles long and half a mile wide. One of the main reasons for the quality of these rubies is due to the high chromium content in the soil, which makes it extremely saturated red, often referred to as pigeon blood. Another factor is their natural fluorescence which has the effect of making the stone come to life and appear internally illuminated. The ring estimate of 10-15 million dollars. But in the auction there is also a ring with a 14.88 carat Kashmir sapphire, characterized by an attractive blue color and excellent purity of a combination rarely encountered in stones of this size (estimate: 1,000,000 to 1.5000000). There are also pieces that belonged to the wealthy ladies of the last century, such as necklace of Doris Duke collection, heiress and benefactor. The necklace is made of platinum, signed Cartier, who has sold 30 April 1937. Federico Graglia

The designer has given her name to an entire line, Inner Brilliance, a jewelry collection obviously made from diamonds. There are two extra things to note: Coronet uses its patented set that combines seven different diamonds to form a single unit, creating the effect of a large solitaire. Reena Ahluwalia, for its part, has worked around this combination to build the collection, consisting of colorless diamonds, but also rubies, mounted on gold 18 carat white, pink or yellow. The collection consists of necklaces, pendants, earrings and rings. At Baselworld, in any case, Reena also presented one of his paintings depicting, obviously, a diamond. Lavinia Andorno

It was sold by Sotheby’s in Geneva in November 2013 to a record $ 83 Million Dollars. but the buyer, Isaac Wolf, after three months did not pay (it was not easy, let’s face it). It happens not often in auctions a flop so sensational, but Wolf complained compliance Failure of a pool of investors agreements that had to share with him the big cost. And so Pink Star was back in the coffers of Sotheby’s, forced by contract to buy back the stone, and put a balance sheet for about 72 million dollars. Last june, a new twist: Sotheby’s was near a buyer. But it was not at all: the diamond perhaps was too expensive. Now the auction house puts on sale the diamond, this time in Hong Kong, April 4. But the estimate is lower, 60 million dollars. It’s a discount enough to find a buyer? Federico Graglia

De Beers, diamonds like Ufo

Stones out of the ordinary in the collection 1888 Master Diamonds De Beers. Jewelry using only collectible stones.
Among the most brilliant (it must be said) news during the high fashion week in Paris, they were counted a few pieces of the collection in 1888 Master Diamonds De Beers. The collection includes jewelry diamond special: each piece mounted a particularly rare colored stone. To this is added that each piece is transformed into an event. The collection 1888 Diamonds master is aimed at a very narrow audience of enthusiasts (and well provided of money), since the proposals stones, by color but also in size, are as rare as flying saucers. One of the last pieces added is, for example, a large diamond pear cut Fancy Dark Greenish Yellow color, 7.66 carats, mounted on a white gold band on which they are set a crown of small white diamonds. Or a diamond Fancy Grey Master, this time with marquise cut, from the icy glare like ice. Among other things, De Beers has just celebrated the tenth anniversary of another historical line, the Talisman collection, with jewels defined as “characterized by a bright palette of colors, which combines both raw and processed diamonds.” Giulia Netrese

Chopard in Kalahari Gardens

The Kalahari Gardens, an extraordinary parure by Chopard, based by a diamond of 342 carats.
Every now diamonds reserve an extra thrill. They are those who enter in history as particularly large stones, beautiful, important. Later they give their name to jewelry that ignite the imagination and become a myth. This is the case of Queen of the Kalahari by Chopard. It is the name of a rough diamond by their large dimensions: 342 carats. The name is that of the desert surrounding the Karowe mine in Botswana, where it was extracted this exceptional stone. Chopard then cut into the diamond stones 23, including five of over 20 carats. The result is a set of jewels thrilling: The Kalahari Garden. The designer of the collection has been satisfied: the sparkle of the jewels is an overview of the possible cuts reserved to the queen of the stones. There are, for example, a 50-carat round brilliant cut diamond, another with 26 carat heart-cut heart, one in the pear shape of 25 carat, one 21 carat emerald cut, and one with a cushion-cut of 20 carat. Needless to add that transparency and purity are at the highest levels.
Just look at the pictures of the result, that you see why the jewelry is costed a lot of work (3200 hours to be precise). The wow piece is a necklace with diamond-shaped petal, adorned with a detachable flower, to which you can hang one, two or three pendants. The earrings are no exception. The collection was presented by Caroline Scheufele, co-president of brand, one of the few remaining big-run and family owned. Giulia Netrese

In London, a super mysterious diamond

The mystery of the super diamond 228.31 carats kept in the safe of Harrods in London.
In London the world of jewelry wonders about the mystery of Harrods Diamond. The luxury department store has revealed that they have in custody in his safe in Knightsbridge a super precious stone, which is now referred to as the Harrods Diamond. The diamond owner is not disclosed. But the fact is that it is not any diamond, but a stone that weighs 228.31 carats. In a nutshell, one of the largest diamonds in the world. The diamond is on sale and you can observe it by appointment only. It’s pear-shaped cut, according to experts with a surprising symmetry. This aspect is curiously: there are not a lot professionals capable of dealing with a perfect cut of such a large stone.
Moreover, the diamond has ha good class even under the color profile. The Gemological Institute of America has classified the color of the gem as G (the best quality is D) and with a grade of VS1 clarity: they are excellent marks for a diamond of that size. Harrods, on the other hand, is not a department store common: its Fine Jewellery section houses the world’s best brands. And now also a great stone. Federico Graglia

Federico Graglia

Sotheby’s is more pink than blue

Festival of pink and blue diamonds at auction by Sotheby’s in Geneva of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels.
The diamond Sky Blue (8 carats), Fancy Vivid, mounted on a ring with two other colorless stones, highlight of the sale, was sold for 17.1 million dollars. He must have breathed a sigh of relief rod hitter in Geneva of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels. The blue diamond, in fact, had focused the attention of the media. But everything went smoothly: the sale of jewels totaled 136.4 million dollars, a figure that rises jewelry sales of the 2016 auction house to the record level to 311.5 million, exceeding the 300 million in last year.
“Tonight’s result is a great finalé to what has been yet another phenomenal year for jewellery in Geneva. Earlier this year, in May, we set a world record for any jewellery sale, and tonight the momentum continued, making 2016 the second record year in a row for Geneva. The very best coloured diamonds of all hues remain highly desirable, but tonight pink and blue were undoubtedly the hottest colours accounting for many of the top prices this evening, with new records set for deep blue, fancy light blue and light pink diamonds, and with the fabulous Sky Blue diamond selling for US$ 17.1m – an increase of over 30% on the US$ 12.8m it realised at Sotheby’s in 2012” said David Bennett, chairman of the International Division of Sotheby’s Jewellery.
Several records
But the piece that got the higher price was not the blue diamond, but pink. A Fancy Intense pink was sold for 20.8 million dollars (1.2 million per carat). Perhaps foreseeing this exploit Bennet wore a tie with the same color. Another diamond Internally Flawless 13.20 carat Fancy Intense Pink has reached 16.2 million. Both of these diamonds were acquired by Graff Diamonds. Still pink: a new auction record was set for a Fancy Light Pink Diamond pear-shaped weighing 40.30 carats sold for 7.5 million.
In addition to the Sky Blue Diamond, it was also sold a Fancy Deep Blue. To conquer it came forward nine bidders: After a battle of raises, the diamond was sold for 13.7 million, a new record for a blue debb all types (1.7 million per carat). It’s not over: a second record he did score a Fancy Light Blue Diamond, sold for 2.2 million. Federico Graglia

A Vie en Rose for Christie’s

A pink vivid diamond has realised 18.2 million, and earrings records at Christie’s auction in Geneva.
Christie’s celebrates this year the 250th anniversary. But the sale of Magnificent Jewels in Geneva must have made it feel younger: the pieces beaten totaled over $ 97 million. There was waiting for the top lot: the 9.14 carats diamond fancy vivid pink, pear cut. It has been appreciated: scored the second highest price for a pink diamond pear shaped sold at auction, with $ 18.2 million (16.8 million euro), approximately $ 2 million in carat. The buyer is an Asian private. There was also waiting for the birth of a historic brand like Boehmer et Bassenge haute joaillerie. The earrings Miroir de l’Amour got a new record price for an auction (17.6 million dollars, that is 16.3 million euro). The diamond necklace Le Jardin d’Isabelle, the third piece created by the Maison, was beaten to $ 8 million (7.4 million euro). Now the wait is moved to another pair of Boehmer et Bassenge earrings with diamonds of 11 carats each of which will be sold in Hong Kong on November 29.
In short, the jewelry, perhaps aided by the Christmas season, continue to impress investors and enthusiasts, with many pieces that exceed the estimates. An Art Deco bracelet with rubies and diamonds from Van Cleef & Arpels was bought for 1.3 million or four times its pre-sale estimate. Overall, 35 lots were sold for over $ 1 million. In the sale of Geneva it is also worth mentioning a diamond necklace signed Harry Winston, sold for 9.3 million dollars (7.7 million Euros), a Bulgari ring with 36-carat diamond for $ 4.3 million ( 4 million euro) and a pearl necklace with two wires for $ 2.9 million (2.6 million euro).

Blue Nile (jewelry online diamond) sold to Bain Capital.
If you are interested in the jewelry world, and not only to jewelry, keep an eye on this news: Blue Nile, the great American group of online sales of diamond jewelry, will be acquired by an investor group led by Bain Capital  and Bow Street LLC, two private equity funds. The purchase will be in cash and is valued at $ 500 million. What does this mean? Simple: the financial world is betting on growth in sales of jewelry on the web. With the tender offer, will hand 100 percent of the ordinary shares (Blue Nile is a listed company). The Blue Nile shareholders will receive a premium of approximately 34 percent on the stock price. Now start the usual rigmarole of approvals, but the sale seems obvious, less than sensational raises. The jewelry company in the third quarter of 2016 marked net sales to 105 million dollars (but down 4.3 percent). But the sale of online jewelry is growing steadily for years. Federico Graglia

The glamor of The Graff Venus

Graff has his Venus: a giant 118-carat diamond heart-shaped.
A black Venus for a white heart. It’s The Graff Venus, a 118.78 carat diamond, which was unveiled by London jeweler that has the widest collection of the highest quality stones. Graff, in fact, explained that this diamond is the largest in the world ranked as color D. And it is the maximum not only for color but also for clarity and cut. Classification D is, in fact, the highest on the scale by which the diamonds are judged: it means that it is perfectly colorless. And it is also at the highest level as clearly and is almost or completely free of impurities. Only between 1 and 2 percent of all natural diamonds have these features and this explains why they are so valuable. Added to this is that the heart cut is flawless, with perfect symmetry and an excellent polishing.
The Graff Venus is the largest cutted diamond that has been converted from the original stone, a piece weighing 357 carats records, discovered in 2015 in the Letšeng mine in Lesotho. And the size of the diamond has required special tools and new technologies to get to a perfect cut: to err is not allowed at this level. In fact, it took 18 months from the time of the discovery to complete the whole process. But it was worth it. Federico Graglia

Sotheby’s in The Sky Blue

In Geneva, Sotheby’s is auctioning a Cartier ring with an exceptional blue diamond, estimated up to 25 million.
Prepare your wallet, check your checkbook, break the piggy bank pig-shaped: to buy this ring with a big blue diamond, takes a lot of money. If you are interested, tune on the auction of November 16 at Sotheby’s in Geneva. Among the Magnificent Jewels, in fact, there is also The Sky Blue Diamond, 08.01 carats described as a wonderfully light blue, by David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewelry Division. All right, the opinion is interested, but it is the color of this gemstone is really out of the ordinary. No coincidence that this ring has a rating of those tall, between 15 million and 25 million dollars. The price is, in fact, determined by the quality of the stone: the Gemological Institute of America has rated The Sky Blue Diamond the highest color grading possible, Fancy Vivid blue. An assessment that places it at the top, so, between that miserable one percent of all blue diamonds, which are already rare. And more, the stone has been classified as a rare type IIb: comprising less than 0.5 percent of all diamonds of all colors. In addition, there is also the rest: the ring on which is mounted the diamond is a Cartier, which is also offering other colorless diamonds. Recall that another diamond sold at Sotheby’s, The Blue Moon, 12.03 carat cushion-shaped, was purchased at auction for 48.5 million just a year ago. This suggests that a blue diamond carat is evaluated for about 4 million: you do the math. In the same auction also belong jewelry and other precious stones: pink diamonds, antiques, extraordinary rings. We’ll talk about when it becomes available catalog. Federico Graglia

Bulgari doubles at Sotheby’s New York

At Sotheby’s auction, was unsold a 27-carat diamond, while a Bulgari ring doubles the estimate.
Autumn surprises: what does it mean if the most precious diamond for sale is snubbed and remains in the safe? That’s what happened in New York, the first auction of Sotheby’s fall season (we talked about here https://gioiellis.com/big-in-vendita-a-new-york/). Star of the sale was a platinum ring with a diamond of 27.35 carats oval. The estimate of this gem was quite high: 2-2,5 million dollars. Despite the conspicuous dimensions of the stone, the ring has not been sold. But if the diamond did flop, the auction was stunned for some quotes that have multiplied the starting assessments. The top lot of the day, in fact, turned out to be a Bulgari ring with a sapphire cushion cut, weight 24.72 carats, surrounded by diamonds shaped like a pear. The ring was valued before the auction up to $ 350,000, and instead was beaten to 706,000, more than double.
It was not the only jewel to abduct the eyes of buyers: a suite of Van Cleef & Arpels (necklace with diamonds and yellow sapphires and blue sets 18K gold and earrings) was sold for $ 340,000. Price also booming for one of the most anticipated jewelry: the jellyfish in glass and enamel is a gold ring 18K signed René Lalique, from $ 20,000 stock was sold for 322,000. Federico Graglia
