Recarlo renews the line Eternity with bracelets and rings in gold and diamonds.
A jewelry collection named Eternity only can continue indefinitely. They currently it’s 12 years, when Recarlo has proposed this line made in the classic combination of white gold and diamonds. But, even if it’s named Eternity, the shapes don’t should remain frozen as they would be in the sideral space. Here, then, that for autumn-winter 2016 the Valenza brand offers new pieces, in line with the aesthetics of those who have gone before them. But with some variations. First innovation is a rigid bracelet, available in a more minimal version with a single diamond, to the richer version with seven diamonds suspended from griffes “high and important.” The form is quite ergonomic, smooth and soft, to make it easy to wear the jewel without regret mid-evening. Another eternal variation: the ring icon of the fashion house becomes even more valuable. Now on the list also appears the version with five diamonds. Prices: the bracelet with one diamond costs 1399 euro, while the version with seven diamonds go up to 6000. But Recarlo also presented other news, which we will publish in the coming days.
Here are the jewels of the bridal line by designer Karl Lagerfeld.
In May, Karl Lagerfeld announced the launch of a jewelry collection dedicated to engagements and weddings (we talked about it here). The collection has arrived, but by the time the jewelry is available in the United States, that are made by Frederick Goldman. For the launch of the collection it was also designed an advertising campaign that will appear on several fashion and lifestyle publications. The images depict the models Joan Smalls and Hailey Baldwin and connects to the campaign for the ready-to-wear by Karl Lagerfeld. Both campaigns are using the slogan “Love from Paris, Karl xx”. Both campaigns also have images in the same style. The jewelry design by Lagerfeld, white gold and diamonds, are produced in the factory in Panyu, China, and are priced between 1,000 and 10,000 dollars, will be distributed in the US, UK, Australia and Canada. The creative director of Chanel and Fendi, 82, is fond of Art Deco style jewelry and a collector of Suzanne Belperron jewelry. Giulia Netrese
The price of diamonds is decreasing
The price of diamonds fell between 5% and 10%.
Tips for shopping. In fact, tips for cautious purchases, or for no one purchase. Rings with diamonds, or diamonds purchased at the bank or by specialized companies, they are seen as a safe investment. There is a good deal of truth in this (a percentage of truth, not an absolute truth). But this is true for the long period. If you’re thinking buying a diamond, and being able to sell in a few months or a few years with a sure gain, think again: it is not so. The diamonds, such as gold, is subject to variations of even heavy price. There are many factors that impact on the cost-price of a diamond and, of course, its authenticity and quality (also read https://gioiellis.com/diamanti-4-regole-per-evitare-truffe/). For example, geopolitical factors, such as wars, revolutions, epochal changes can pick up or drop the price of a diamond.
Falling prices
Recently Brexit (Britain out of the European Union) has created a climate of uncertainty in Europe, which adds to the difficult economic phase. This results in a period of weak demand for diamonds and the prices of stones are starting to fall. For example, the diamonds of 3 carats of high quality saw the plunging cost of about 5% in the past two months. In truth, it is a decline that continues for two years: in 2015, for example, the Antwerp market has recorded a 10% decline for the smallest pieces of average quality. And the giant De Beers (the biggest producer) said that the prices realized for the year to June 30, 2016, were 14% lower than the previous period. The merchants and the stonecutters of the Belgian city confirm the stalled or, worse bending. In China, the campaign against corruption by President Xi, saw reflected a rather significant slowdown on the consumption of luxury goods within the country, including the jewelry. This also has an impact on the wholesale price. Moral: a diamond is forever, but not its price. Federico Graglia
It’s a flop the super diamond auction
Nothing doing: the largest diamond has not been sold at Sotheby’s (we have anticipated here). The auction of the 1,109-carat diamond, the second-largest of all time, did not reach the minimum expected. The buyers, anonymous, stopped to 61 million dollars, against 70 million in the minimum price set by Lucara, the company that had discovered the precious gem last November in one of its mines in Botswana. We must also mention that the price wrought by the auctioneer of an auction isn’t final: to the cost will add a commission of about 12%. In this case, therefore, the purchaser would have shelled out 68 million dollars if he had bought the diamond. The diamond La Rona, as had been baptized, has a size of a tennis ball (about 66.4 x 55 x 42 mm), and has an exceptional transparency. In addition to great age: from 2.5 to more than 3 billion years. But, according to experts, it is also difficult to cut to extract stones to be used on a jewel. Federico Graglia
Graff, a super pear in Paris
Let’s face it: for sure for diamonds, the size matters. And it knows Graff, Maison London with a passion for the most popular stones. Always collector of extraordinary pieces, Graff decided of showing one of this to the public to raise awareness of the new boutique opened in Paris. The diamond is called Graff Vendôme is a stone pear cut of 105.07 carats, quality D. Diamond celebrates the opening of its new store that is, indeed, in the Place Vendôme in Paris. The diamond has an interesting history: it was created from a 314 carat rough stone found in a Lesotho mine. First, the stone has been subjected to a computerized 3D mapping. Then, the master carvers of Graff studied for months the right cut, performed by laser, to move to the second phase of hand polishing. From the rough diamond another 12 pieces were then cut, the largest is 17.10 carats, classified the highest quality. In case you want to look closely at the beautiful pear (and expensive), Graff’s boutique on Place Vendôme is right next to the Ritz in Paris. Rudy Serra
This is a 70 million diamond
Sotheby’s is auctioning a 1109 carat rough diamond, the Lesedi La Rona. It is the largest high quality rough diamond discovered more than a century and the largest ever put on sale. The batsman’s hammer will fall to establish the price on June 29, in London. The estimate that the auction house is believed to reach astronomical: $ 70 million. The name comes from the Tswana language spoken in Botswana: it means “our light.” The stone was discovered by Lucara Diamond in November 2015, in the Karowe mine. It has the size of a tennis ball (about 66.4 x 55 x 42 mm), and has an exceptional transparency. In addition to great age: from 2.5 to more than 3 billion years.
In terms of size, this diamond is only surpassed by the legendary Cullinan diamond, mined in South Africa in 1905, from 3016.75 carats, which then generated the stones used in the Crown Jewels of the United Kingdom, including Great Star of Africa , currently the largest diamond, weighing 530.20 carats.
According to a study by the Gemological Institute of America, the Lesedi La Rona has “exceptional color and higher transparency has been cataloged as part of a sub-group that comprises less than 2% of all diamonds,” the show the most chemically pure and often extraordinary transparency optical. ”
According to David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby’s jewelery section, “Lesedi La Rona it is simply outstanding.” In case you want to check it out (or prepare to participate in the auction, you never know) the Lesedi the Rona will be on display at Sotheby’s New York on May 7, and in London June 18 to 28. At least look costs nothing. Federico Graglia
Cullinan Dream sold to 25 million
The blue diamond Cullinan Dream was sold at $ 25 million at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York. Diamond, more than 24 carats, is considered one of the most interesting gems. The sale price is the middle ground of the initial estimates (23 million to 29 million). It’s not, therefore, a record, but it testifies with the market for colored diamonds is still vivid, to use a pun. A big white diamond of over 52 carats instead totaled “only” 2 million. While, among the jewels within the estimates they have remained a Cartier bracelet with aquamarines and a necklace of white diamonds and yellow.
A success beyond expectations came instead for one of the first works of Fulco di Verdura for Coco Chanel. The jewel was sold for $ 100,000. One curious detail: to buy the bracelet was the brand Verdura. According to the company which holds the rights to the name of the famous and noble Sicilian designer, the bracelet is worth the final price, which was about three times the estimate ($ 35,000) . It is not an routine jewel: it was built around 1935 and was part of Coco Chanel collection. It is silver, made of clear enamel and with the simulation of red and green cabochon. Other faux gems are blue, to the side, and with rectangular shape. The bracelet, which is not signed, however, is accompanied by a letter confirming that this is a drawing of the Duke Fulco di Verdura. The purchase will be part of the Vegetable Museum Collection and will be exposed with the bracelet Cross of Malta, built in 1930. Federico Graglia
In auction another killer blue
The lights on the Oppenheimer Blue, exceptional diamond sold for 57.7 million dollars, are still on, but another blue killer is coming. And it’s always Christie’s to lead the dance with the next auction of Magnificent Jewels in New York, June 9 (please, write down the date in your diary). This time the top piece is the Cullinan Diamond Dream, of 24.18 carats, the largest fancy intense blue diamond offered at auction. It was extracted from the Cullinan mine in South Africa, known as the Premier Mine. It is the largest stone of the four blue diamonds cut from the original rough diamond of 122.52 carats, discovered in 2014. It is the same mine where, in 1905, was found a crazy 3106.75 carat diamond, the Cullinan I, also known as the Star of Africa. It is the largest polished white diamond found out, and now rest secure in the Tower of London along with the jewels of the crown of England. The Cullinam blue that arrives at auction, is type IIB and is especially big. The most intense blue diamonds fancy weigh average less than 1 carat: 24.18 carats is therefore an exceptional size. The classification as Type IIb makes it even more rare: in this kind of diamonds missing a symmetrical crystalline form and represent less than half of 1 percent of all diamonds that are found in nature. How much does a diamond like that? The estimate ranges from 23 to 29 million dollars.
It will not be the only highlight of the auction. In the catalog there are also jewels of Bvlgari jewelry, Cartier, Tiffany & Co, Graff, and Van Cleef & Arpels. Federico Graglia
Oppenheimer Blue sold for 57.5 million
Record of Records: at exactly at 20:55 hours Geneva, after 25 minutes of the race, at auction Christie’s is came an offer-bomb to Oppenheimer Blue Diamond: 57.5 million dollars. Rahul Kadakia, international director of the jewelry department, has sold so one of the finest diamonds ever seen at auction. It is a new world record. The battle was intense, he tells who was present, the tension in the air was palpable. The rich private collector who won the diamond is anonymous. The previous record at auction belonged to another a blue diamond, sold in November 2015 in Geneva: The Blue Moon of Josephine, sold for 46.4 million. But the Christie’s auction was also something else. Was for sale, for example, the collection of Princess Gabriela zu Leiningen: all her jewels were sold, for a total revenue of 22.5 million. She is lucky. In particular, the Pohl diamond was sold for 4.3 million dollars. Federico Graglia
Sotheby’s record with Unique Pink
In the Olympics of jewels, where are few competitors in the race, a new world record was won with Sotheby’s Geneva sale of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels in Geneva: has totalized 175 million dollars (for the lovers of the rankings, previous record was 160.9 million in May 2015). Not only that, the long-awaited Unique Pink, extremely rare Fancy Vivid pink diamond, from 15.38 carat, pear-cut, was sold for 31.5 million, with a price per carat of $ 2,052,094. A lot. The diamond, on the other hand, is considered an extraordinary piece.
David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewellery Division, is satisfied: “Exactly one year after having set the world record for a jewellery sale, Sotheby’s Geneva has raised the bar once again with a great sale and a great result for the Unique Pink. It is difficult to imagine a diamond that better illustrates the term Vivid Pink than this outstanding stone. The colour is simply astonishing and, for its size, it is in my experience truly unique. We set out to curate a sale that would speak to today’s collectors and the response has been overwhelming – confirmation, if ever it were needed, that when you have the right material, demand is as deep as it’s ever been. This was a sale that had the perfect mix of great gemstones and jewels, the vast majority of which were sourced from private collections.” The budget of the sale Geneva is positive: 83% of the lots were sold, three lots have gone beyond the $ 10 million. Six batches over 5 million. Also note an online purchase (Lot 462, a pair of diamond earrings rose) to 6 m million dollars: Internet sales rose by 41% compared to 2015. 25% of the participants came from Asia.
Other notable pieces: a pin with Fancy Intense Blue diamond of 6.64 carats has reached 13, 6 million. A pendant of pink Fancy Diamonds, 18.51 carats, was sold for 9.5 million. But the records were been many (we specify them in image captions). Federico Graglia
Countdown to Oppenheimer Blue
It’s countdown: Wednesday, May 18 is fixed a marathon dedicated to jewelry and extraordinary stones. The Christie’s sale is in Geneva, at the Four Seasons Hotel, with over 280 lots. The auction Magnificent Jewels includes pieces from the collection of His Highness the Princess Gabriela zu Leiningen (we talked about here). But, in addition to a selection of the finest collection of princess jewelry, the sale includes valuable pieces that carry the signature of the most important Maison of the world, such as Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, as well as rarely seen creations by Philippe Wolfers, Gustave Baugrand and Bapst & Falize. With this premise might seem like an exceptional event. But no, it’s also planning the legendary Blue Oppenheimer Diamond, that with 14,62 carats, is the largest vivid blue diamond ever to come to auction. Its estimated cost is 45 million dollars, but it could also overcome the Blue Moon Josephine, a blue cushion-cut diamond of 3.12 carat vivid blue that has set a world auction record at 48.4 million euro in November 2015. The diamond named after the previous owner, Sir Philip Oppenheimer, a member of the family that once controlled the De Beers Mining Company. Federico Graglia
Super diamond to de Grisogono
Do you remember from the 404 carat diamond record? It’s been bought by Fawaz Gruosi, the founder of de Grisogono. The jeweler based in Geneva (but was born in Lebanon to a Lebanese father and Italian mother) held a press conference in Dubai to announce the news with Executive Chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre and the Kimberley, Ahmed Bin Sulayem. The rough diamond acquired, through the Nemesis trading company, is one of the 30 largest high-quality diamond ever found. The stone is rare not only for its size but for its lack of color and flawless clarity. It will be interesting to find out how jeweler will cut a stone so remarkable.
Contrary to the traditional process, where the jewelers are limited to use polished stones that already exist on the market, now de Grisogono will have the opportunity to indicate the cutting process, maximizing the beauty of the end jewelry. “This diamond marks one of the most important stages of my career both as a jeweler who as a designer. Words can not express how much I and my team are grateful to Dmcc and Nemesis for such a unique collaboration”, said Gruosi. Federico Graglia
A pear for 38 million
It will be a highlight of the whole season of jewelry auctions: a large pink pear-cut diamond will be sold in Geneva on May 17 at Sotheby’s. It’s so rare that it was called The Unique Pink. The stone combines an extremely rare and sought after color, Fancy Vivid Pink, with a considerable size: it weighs 15.38 carats. The stone is extraordinarily clear and pure. It is the largest pink diamond Fancy Vivid Pink pear shaped ever offered at auction. The estimation of its value portends a caliente challenge among collectors of rare stones: the value is between 28 and 38 million dollars. Will be the star of the Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels in which, however, it will not be the only valuable piece. In the sale, of which we anticipate the first images, there will also be other super stones, as well as jewelry with very value as a spectacular collection of the first creations of the twentieth century by Cartier, as well as pieces coming from private collections. Good result for a ring with a brilliant cut diamond of over 22 carats, sold for $ 3.7 million. Third place went to a ring, accompanied by two jade earrings and diamonds: they were beaten for $ 2.4 million. The same price obtained for a ring with an unusual diamond orange, perhaps the most original piece in the top ten. Federico Graglia
Coronet, a show with diamonds
The lot of peple who love diamonds can satiate their eyes with these images signed Aaron Shum, Hong Kong company became famous with the brand Coronet. They are a number of jewelry that enhance the diamonds: Coronet Marquise, for example, is a line which combines stones marquise cut and princess cut: an innovative design that wants to increase the effect of glittering stones. To further increase the hypnotic power of the central diamond stones are surrounded by other small diamonds, which prolong the reflections. Crowns Pendeloque line, as the name indicates, includes jewelry from teardrop shape. Pendants and earrings exalt stones with a cut pear, also in this case surrounded by other smaller diamonds Contour. No wonder that these compositions of white, transparent and sparkling gemstones get the favor of those who does not deviate from tradition, but relies entirely on the freshness of diamonds, a luxury that never sets. Cocktail time for Graff
Did we mention about the cocktail rings (https://gioiellis.com/i-segreti-del-cocktail-ring) and here is the novelty of Graff in this category of rings. The great British Maison, specializing in stratospheric diamonds, launches new cocktail rings inspired precisely the period in which it was born this jewel flashy, expensive, and not very virtuous. In a nutshell, the Graff design of the new line is inspired by the first cocktail rings were born at the time of Prohibition in America, in early Twenties. In this case the toe design not only on the colors, but also on the shape vortex, formed by five lines of pavé, with a central stone that grows and attracts attention. The diamond which occupies the central part is provided in different cuts and carats (4.21 carats pear, 4.38-carat emerald, 4.18 carat round), and can be white or fancy yellow (5.34 carats). Just look at these rings to understand that Graff stick to its expertise and the quality of its proposal. The rings can do happy for sure even those who ever drink cocktails. Matilde de Bounvilles

Autumn 2015 was an opportunity for Graff to a catwalk in Paris for his collection of jewelry for statement: weddings, engagements, anniversaries. But for people who can afford masterpieces of fine jewelry. Pieces are to be admired for their beauty and the quality of the gems used. As in the case of the original Royal Star of Paris, which was made using two diamonds of over 100 carats each: the Sunflower Graff (107.46 fancy yellow cushion-cut) and Graff Perfection (100-carat, D flawless, cutting pear). Laurence Graff, founder and chairman of Graff Diamonds, at the time of the presentation said it is to see two high quality diamonds of at least 100 carats each on the same jewel is “unprecedented.” He’s right. Another highlight of the line, which we show in this page, is the Collier Bleu de Reve, a necklace really dream, with a diamond briolette cut fancy vivid blue internally flawless 10.47 carat, according to Graff is “one of the rarest and finest blue diamonds in the world”. And more, the diamond is accompanied by a Colombian emerald of 22.04 carats. The jewel is designed so that the central element can be detached and worn alone as a brooch. What more do you want? Back to selling the Taj Mahal
Will be back on sale one of the most famous (and disputed) jewel: the Taj Mahal, belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. It is a jewel with diamond heart-shaped that was donated by Richard Burton to 40th birthday of American actress. After the disappearance of the muse of Hollywood, the Taj Mahal diamond was sold at auction in December 2011 for $ 8.8 million. A price determined also by the history of the gem that was once it supposed owned by a Mughal emperor in India. But this has become a bone of contention: a few months after the auction by Christie’s, the buyer has asked for his money back, claiming that the jewel is actually not from the Mughal period as advertised. A version that Christie’s don’t agree. After four years, however, now the two sides came to an agreement: the jewelry will be for sell. The news is a scoop of the British Daily Mail. According to British newspaper, the auction house hopes to recover the 8.8 million who have been sold the jewel.
The name of the diamond, the Taj Mahal, comes from the attribution of original ownership in Shah Jahan, the king of the dynasty moghul who commissioned the monument Taj Mahal in Agra, India. When he gave to Elizabeth Taylor the jewel, in 1972, Burton had joked: “I would have liked to buy the Taj Mahal, but it would cost too much to transport.” The diamond pendant in the shape of heart is mounted on a chain of Cartier, together with a set of rubies and diamonds. Note that at first auction the estimate was very more low from final price: 300,000 and 500,000 dollars. Lavinia Andorno
Christie’s, diamonds and high-society
The auctions, this year are been closed with fireworks: Christie’s sold in New York, at the auction of Magnificent Jewels, the Victory Diamond, a rectangular stone, color D, of 31.34 carats, for $ 4.3 million , a figure that equates to $ 137,492 per carat. The other gems of great success were a cushion-cut diamond ring of 43.79 carats, sold for just over 4 million, a necklace with a diamond pendant, purchased nearly 3.8 million, another diamond ring of 28.28 carat (3.4 million). The precious stones have followed the trend of other auctions in Hong Kong and Geneva, with big demands from those who simply want to diversify their investments. A large diamond color D, 28.28 carats, set a new record for jewelry sold at Christie’s online. Also note the success of a few pieces, which are sold much more than the estimate. As for a ring with emerald cabochon priamidale, which was estimated 200-300000 dollars and sold for 1,685,000. Strong prices were achieved for the pieces signed by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co. and Schlumberger. But there was a lot of waiting for the collection of Carroll Petrie, rich representative of high society in New York, who died last spring. From the late fifties Carroll Petrie lived between Paris, Hong Kong and New York. She had many important friends, including the Duchess of Windsor, Ronald and Nancy Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. Her collection was sold at 90%, informs Christie’s. Also note the necklace unique signed Tony Duquette and belonged to the Duchess of Windsor, sold for $ 100 000 (from an estimated 15 to 20,000). The ring Amal Clooney in her sights
Amal Clooney, 37, wife of George, has problems with her engagement ring, a solitaire diamond from 7 carat, emerald cut. Not because she considers not good the jewel that gave the actor on the occasion of the official announcement of their union. On the contrary, Amal seems to have embarrassed to show a similar jewel because it’s too flashy, especially when she is at work. Mrs. Clooney, in fact, is a lawyer in London and is also working for human rights in different situations. He defended distinguished customers, as the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, or the former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, but also simple accused of common crimes. The diamond ring is estimated 650 thousand euro and often attracts attention, not only customers, but also to colleagues and judges. In short, it is considered an excessive luxury, able to influence a conversation, or at least the opinion of Amal as a legal professional. And so she confided to some friends be looking for a jewel a bit ‘less expensive to wear casually. Giulia Netrese
