Lions under the sign of Chanel

//

A new collection of jewelry roars with Chanel: Sous le Signe du Lion ♦ ︎

The lion roars for the third time. And the majestic sound of the king of the forest spreads from Venice to Paris. The most admired feline of all time was the favorite animal of Coco Chanel, who not by chance adored the lagoon city, which has as its symbol the lion. In addition, the founder of the fashion house was just under the zodiac sign of the lion.

Chanel has therefore decided to propose a new collection dedicated to the animal with its tawny mane.

The new collection is called Sous le Signe du Lion and follows the one presented last winter, which was called L’Esprit du Lion. Over the years the lions of Chanel have appeared on buckles, clothes and jewelry, in brass, gold or marble. In this case the collection uses 18-carat yellow or white gold, diamonds, rock crystal, onyx, lapis lazuli and rutilated quartz. The lions are sculpted in a proud pose, as if they were guardians of the jewels. Prices: from 7700 euros for the ring in white gold, diamonds and quartz, to the 126,000 euros the ring with a lion resting on a star and a large central diamond.

Alfieri & St. John celebrates Gaüdi

///

Earrings, necklaces and rings inspired by the Catalan architect Gaüdì in the 1922 collection by Alfieri & St. John ♦ ︎

Barcelona, capital of Catalonia, famous for its rambla, the obligatory promenade of every tourist, the great port, the international atmosphere that is breathed. And also for the architectures of Antoni Gaudì. Suffice it to say that his works are part of the heritage of Humanity sanctioned by UNESCO. Gaudì has an unmistakable style, made of art nouveau that becomes eclectic, unpredictable sculpture, with elusive and elliptical profiles.

The 1922 collection by Alfieri & St. John is dedicated to Gaudì.

Orecchini in oro giallo e diamanti
Orecchini in oro giallo e diamanti

Why that number? Simple: it is the date when Gaudì realizes the project of the Park Güell in Barcelona. The jewels of the collection are based on the unusual shapes of benches and monuments of that place. Earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets of the collection are made of yellow gold with small diamonds and sapphires, rounded in almost spiral shapes. Above all, the jewelry line sometimes takes an unexpected turn, just like the architectures of Antoni Gaüdì. Lavinia Andorno

Marilyn’s diamond, sapphires by Kashmir

/

Merilyn Monroe’s diamond and an exceptional sapphire necklace for sale by Christie’s ♦ ︎

Myths are eternal, even more if they involve transversely different peoples, different epochs and universal characters. Like Marilyn Monroe. The actress who died aged only 36, on 5 August 1962, remains one of the most beloved figures and, above all, a symbol of femininity. Also with regards to his love for jewels. On November 27th, Christie’s will test the fascination for Marilyn with an auction in Hong Kong.

On sale there is a 24 carat yellow diamond that belonged to Marilyn Monroe.

The Moon of Baroda
The Moon of Baroda

Not only. It is a stone with a story to tell. The diamond is called The Moon of Baroda, is a pear-shaped fancy yellow, which originates from the legendary now-exhausted mines of Golconda, India. The actress wore this diamond as a pendant in 1953, while promoting the release of Gentleman Prefer Blondes movie. It was the film in which she sang Diamonds are the Girl’s Best Friend, a historical phrase (perhaps too much). The myth was also immortalized by an autographed photo of 1953 in which Marilyn Monroe appears wearing La luna di Baroda. The photo is also part of Christie’s auction and will be sold together with the diamond.
The diamond, in addition to Marilyn, was also before owned by Samuel H. Deutsch, a diamond cutter from Cleveland, Ohio, who bought it in 1944 and sold it to Meyer Rosenbaum, president of the Meyer Jewelry Company of Detroit, in 1953. Current estimate is between 510,000 and 765,000 dollars.

But in the same auction appears another special and much more precious jewel: The Peacock Necklace, a necklace of diamonds and 21 Kashmir sapphires for a total of 109.08 carats, estimated at between 12 and 15 million dollars.

The peacock necklace
The peacock necklace

Kashmir sapphires are sought after for their rich cornflower blue color and reminiscent of the splendid shade of a peacock’s neck. Each sapphire of this necklace has been carefully assembled to ensure the creation of a collection of stones that are unsurpassed in beauty and harmony. The central stone weighs 10.56 carats, an absolute rarity in size, since finding a single sapphire of this caliber is tremendously difficult, not to mention the composition of a complete suite of equal excellence. The many names of Govoni Gioielli

///

The Cheri collection by Govoni Gioielli: names and words translated into yellow gold and diamond ♦ ︎

Alessia, Antonella, Carlotta, Giulia, Valeria … What do they have in common? Simple: together with many other women they share their name transformed into a ring, bracelet, earrings or necklace in the Cheri collection by Govoni Gioielli.

The jewels are made of 18 carat gold, embellished with a diamond, often used as a point, for example on the letter “i”.

Anello Alessia

But, besides the proper names, the collection can host particularly significant dates or words: the jewels, in fact, are made by hand. In any case, there are several names of women. The Cheri collection is an idea of a jeweler working outside the classic districts of gold, such as Vicenza, Valenza or Arezzo. In fact, Govoni has its headquarters in Cento, citizens in the province of Ferrara. Yet it has managed to carve out a place in the Italian jewelery scene, thanks to the initiative of the founder, Fabio Govoni, who created the Maison in 1980, today assisted by his son Roberto, who is the creator of the Cheri collection. Prices: rings starting from 180 euros, bracelet from 300 euros, with a 280 euro cord, 340 euros earring, 360 euros round neck. Giulia Netrese

Brosway, embroideries in Corinth

//

The Corinto collection by Brosway: interweaving of light metal with white or colored zircons ♦ ︎

Corinth: a name that evokes History, Greece, maybe even the school memories. The city, in ancient Greece, was powerful of the Peloponnesian League but, in art, it is famous above all for having given its name to those capitals of particularly elaborate columns. In short, anyone has seen the capitals in Corinthian style and immediately thought of the art of ancient Ellade. With inspiration for the classical world, but with a totally modern style, Brosway decided to call Corinto one of its new collections.

The style of the Corinto collection is particularly elaborate, rich, flowery.

Medallions, bracelets and earrings are made with a weave of white or gold-colored metal, with embroideries that seem to recall those of ancient ceramics, classic decorations, and even gothic stained glass. The metal used is brass, which is rhodiumed to make it white, or treated with a galvanizing method for gilding. Cubic zirconia, white or colored, are set inside the jewels. Prices: from € 29 for the ring and € 59 for the white medallion at € 79 for earrings in galvanized brass and colored zircons. Alessia Mongrando

Love at the time of Recarlo

//

Feeling collection by Recarlo: heart-shaped diamonds, flexible bracelet. Images and prices ♦ ︎

At one time, in the Italian language, the word heart rhymed with love. It is still so. But a third assonance has been added: Recarlo. Even if the last letters of the alphabet do not coincide, the rhyme exists in fact. If the Piedmontese brand has always been identified with jewelery for engagement, marriage or anniversary, now the identification between Recarlo and the romantic atmosphere is complete. A decisive acceleration of the Maison on the path of heart-shaped diamonds is what makes jewelery and love fit together.

Recarlo seems to be the only one who can offer five collections of jewels made with heart-cut diamonds.

Anello in oro bianco della collezione Feeling
Anello in oro bianco della collezione Feeling

The collections that use this uncommon type of cut are called Feeling, Elisir, Eden, Cupido and Anniversary Love. Each has different characteristics, but all are entirely made up of small heart-shaped diamonds of different sizes, from 0.09 carats to over 1 carat. It should be noted that this is a cut that is not at all easy to make, especially in large homogeneous quantities and with small stones.
For example, Feeling (we’ll talk about of others separately) aligns a series of small hand-cut hearts, set with a really challenging job. The bracelet is also equipped with an invisible spring that makes the jewel flexible. All diamonds, in perfect Recarlo style, are mounted on white gold. Indicative prices (vary according to the amount of diamonds used): 5760 euro bracelet, 4230 euro ring with 0.92 carats of diamonds.

Bulgari, forever Fiorever?

/

A new Bulgari collection, Fiorever. Pink and white gold jewelery with diamonds ♦ ︎

“Famous for the boldness of their style and their color inclination, Bulgari jewels are immediately recognizable. Their iconic features, which are found in each of the Bulgari creations, live in the sensuality of the volumes, in the love for clean lines and respect for the Greco-Roman roots that Bulgari expresses with its design. “

These words are read on the website of Bulgari, a great jewelery designer who has marked an era, in particular that of the Fifties and Sixties. The Roman Maison passed under the insignia of the Lvmh group has presented, in Dubai (the choice should make us reflect) the new collection of jewels, in the Bvlgari Resort of the Emirate city.

Anello in oro bianco e diamanti della collezione Fiorever

Reread the words and compare the Fiorever collection, a play on words between the Italian fiore (flower in English) and the English word forever, that is forever. On this occasion, Bulgari also presented her new ambassador, the Spanish actress, Úrsula Corberó, who replaces Lily Aldridge.
Not surprisingly, given the name, that the jewels of the collection are in the shape of a flower. They are made of white or pink gold, with a fair use of brilliant cut diamonds. All right, it’s not high jewelry. If, however, the collection matches the Bulgari style and tradition you will decide it. Giulia Netrese

Beverly style by Stroili

The max Beverly collection by Stroili, simple and at super-accessible prices ♦ ︎

The name suggests the hills near Los Angeles where many Hollywood actors live. But the Beverly collection of Stroili could be compared, instead, to a giant movie, one of those films that last twice as usual and employ groups of extras. Because the Berverly collection consists of something like 120 pieces.

The collection includes necklaces, bracelets and some anklets. They are all made of 9 carat gold, sometimes with the addition of glitter.

The luxury for everyone also maintains the promise to offer very low prices: it starts under 60 euros to rise to an average of 100 euros and touch 160 or 280 euros just for some jewels, such as the two-tone bracelet, in yellow and white gold. The style of the collection is simple: chains and some fairy tale icons, like fairies, leaves and flowers. Jewelery intended for a young audience, to wear without worrying too much. The new Signs of Salvini

//

Salvini renews the I Segni collection with rings and long sautoir with mother of pearl and lapis lazuli ♦ ︎

What is reality, if not an immense archive of signs? From the road signs to the letters of the alphabet, to the demonstrations of affection towards another person: everything is regulated, communicated, expressed through appropriate signs. And if you think about it, jewels are also part of this carousel: they are embellishments that communicate something to the recipient or to the wearer. Even more so if the jewels are those of the now historic I Segni di Salvini collection.

Now Salvini proposes the Signs again with the addition of new pieces from the collection.

Bracciale in oro rosa e madreperla
Bracciale in oro rosa e madreperla

Rings, earrings and long sautoir reproduce elements such as cross, heart, butterfly and four-leaf clover, common symbols, to which also attribute personal meanings. The novelty concerns the entry into the collection of surfaces in mother-of-pearl or lapis lazuli, which are combined with pink gold. But there is no lack of plain rings in the rosé and gold versions, or in pavé diamonds in white gold. Fortunately, the jewels of the I Segni collection do not leave their mark on the wallet and this is also a sign of the times: the rings in full pavé are offered at 745 euros, while for the sautoir in gold and semiprecious stones the price rise to 2400.

The dreams of Rosato

The Sogni collection by Rosato: silver jewelery with small stones set. Images and prices ♦ ︎

If dreams (sogni in italian) are desires, Rosato’s Dreams are vaguely retro-inspired jewels. Bracelets, earrings, necklaces and rings from the Sogni collection, in fact, have a design that recalls the bijoux of the late nineteenth century, naturally revisited with a modern look.

All jewels are made of 925 silver, with the addition of natural stones or cubic zirconia.

Anello in argento con corniola, malachite, ametista e lapislazzulo

The small stones have a cabochon cut and are set in the silver embroidery that make up the body of the jewel. Stones like carnelian, amazonite, amethyst, red aventurine, lapis lazuli, malachite are used, while zircons can be white, orange or blue. Silver embroidery forms crosses or decorations that fill a surface, as in the case of a heart-shaped pendant. In other cases, the metal forms a weave that leaves empty spaces, as in the case of the bracelet. Prices: from 68 euros the necklace with cross pendant rises to 165 euros for the bracelet with small stones set. Giulia Netrese

The alternative jewels of Meghan Markle

//

The jewelry worn by Meghan Markle is from the “alternative” designer Pippa Small ♦ ︎

Meghan Markle is pregnant and it’s the news that has thrilled all the fans of events of the British royal family. But those who follow the Buckingham Palace and its news with assiduousness also monitor the clothes and jewels worn by the protagonists of the royal house. In addition to the diadem of Princess Eugenie, of which we have spoken, the profusion of rings, bracelet and earrings, all in yellow gold (her favorite metal), worn by Meghan Markle on the occasion of the wedding ceremony, has aroused curiosity.

We can unveil the origin of the Sussex Duchess’s jewelry: they are from Pippa Small.

Meghan Markle al matrimonio della principessa Eugenie, con gioielli di Pippa Small

It was probably not a casual choice: Pippa Small, in fact, is not an elite jewelry brand. Indeed, it is just the opposite: it is a brand that brings with it words like sustainability, fairness, respect for minorities. And with this choice, Meghan reiterates her role as a nonconformist woman in the royal family.
Pippa Small, in fact, is a London designer who loves to travel and “was inspired by the many fascinating cultures she met”. He completed a master’s degree in medical anthropology and has since focused his interests on human rights among minorities, indigenous groups. It is not by chance that she was appointed ambassador of the human rights organization Survival International in 2008 and in 2013 she won an Mbe by the Queen for ethical jewels and charity works. He worked with the first fair trade gold mine registered in the world in Bolivia and with the esteemed Fair Trade Fair company based in Kibera, a shantytown in Nairobi. When he started his second life as a designer, he also collaborated with famous brands such as Gucci in Tom Ford, Chloe, Bamford. In 2016 he also won the Ethical Jeweler of the Year award and the prestigious Walpole Corporate Social Responsibility award.

Roberto Coin Sauvage Privé

//

New pieces are added to Roberto Coin’s Sauvage Privé collection: bold shapes, pavé, geometries for a woman without fear ♦ ︎ ︎

What is the other side of femininity? The question, not at all useless, was placed by Roberto Coin, a Vicenza jeweler with a passport to the rest of the world, from where he returned and where he never stopped coming back. One of the novelties presented at VicenzaOro January and renewed at the September appointment, is called Sauvage Privé collection and has the following claim: The Other Side of Femininity.

The collection is part of the exuberant production of the Maison of Vicenza, which offers something like 600 new models every year.

Rose gold earrings with black jade, malachite and diamonds
Rose gold earrings with black jade, malachite and diamonds

It is not easy, but Roberto Coin can play with the usual forms of jewelry as a musician who always uses seven notes, but with different results every time. For example, the Sauvage Privé collection uses jewels with contrarié silhouettes: two elements, two distinct parts that look at each other and approach each other. Give the meaning you prefer to the idea. Between geometries and pavé, broken circles and surfaces that meet, the collection has the merit of fixing well concepts and shapes in a decisive style. In short, without exceeding, but with certainty: just what many women ask for. Giulia Netrese

The triangles of Pianegonda

The surfaces composed of triangles and silver rhombuses of the Planus collection by Pianegonda ♦ ︎

After Scripta, Arcus, Arcana and many others, here is Planus. Thanks to Pianegonda, no one will can to say that the Latin language is dead. Planus translates with plan, and they are precisely the surfaces that characterize the collection of the brand that is part of the Bros Manifatture group.

Like the other jewels of Pianegonda, also the pieces of the Planus collection are made of 925 silver.

Collana a tre giri della collezione Planus
Collana a tre giri della collezione Planus

The accent on surfaces is evident at first glance. All the jewels highlight a kind of armor made up of small triangles juxtaposed on the shorter side. Not only that: the surfaces of the double triangles are folded at the base of the triangles that make up the rhombus. All these geometric shapes are then connected to form the jewels, which play a lot on three-dimensionality. Prices: the top is the 83.46 gram necklace which costs 1450 euros. The bracelet follows at 950 euros, while for the earrings it goes down from 254 euros to the simplest ring put up for sale at 145 euros. Lavinia Andorno

Harry Winston, hymn to New York

///

The city of New York turns into a sparkling collection of other jewelry with Harry Winston ♦ ︎

New York, New York: in addition to being the title of the famous song, the American city was the subject of films, novels and works of art. And now also a collection of fine jewelry. New York is the protagonist of the 32-piece collection signed by Harry Winston, one of the jewelers that most identifies with the city.

The jewels of the New York collection are inspired by architecture, but also by sounds and panoramas of the city.

Bracciale con diamanti, smeraldi e zaffiri ispirato a Central Park
Bracciale con diamanti, smeraldi e zaffiri ispirato a Central Park

But be careful: do not think about finding jewels with icons that are so popular with tourists, like the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. New York is seen, instead, through situations and details related to the history or taste of the founder of the Maison: for example, the eagles of cast iron that in the early twentieth century were used as a frieze for street lamps are transformed into jewels of the Eagle line, with shape of wings made up of diamonds. Throughout the collection there are eight different lines of jewels.

City Lights is obviously inspired by the bright lights of Broadway with jewels that use precious stones: emeralds, rubies, sapphires.

Brownstone alludes to the sandstone used in the Upper West Side, the neighborhood where Winston was born, and in this case the jewels have angular baguette diamonds arranged in a sparkling pendant necklace and chandelier pendent earrings. The turquoise and sapphire blue sugar pan version of each (also available in blue and sapphire yellow) winks at the Art Deco architecture found elsewhere in the city. Or the 718 line, which is the street number of Fifth Avenue where the Harry Winston flagship store is located. In short, it is a way to visit the city certainly fascinating. Giulia Netrese

A pyramid for Alfieri & St.John

//

The pyramid of the Louvre is transformed into the 1989 collection by Alfieri & St.John ♦ ︎

The years of Alfieri & St.John do not pass as for the rest of the world. In fact, the Italian fashion house reborn a few years ago has the habit of making the years eternal: to each one is in fact dedicated to a collection. For example, 1989 is the name of a collection dedicated to an event linked to art and architecture. In particular, at the inauguration in Paris of the Pyramide of the Musée du Louvre. This it is, like, millions of tourists and art lovers know, a huge glass and steel prism designed by architect Ieoh Ming Pei. From this pyramid placed in the courtyard of the Louvre, the former royal palace in the heart of Paris, you access the halls of the most famous museum in the world.

The 1989 collection by Alfieri & St.John takes the shape of the pyramid for its jewels.

Casato extends Yasmeen

New entry in Casato’s Yasmeen collection: diamond clusters, pink sapphires and rubellite ♦ ︎

Federico Gauttieri, founder of the Maison Casato, describes himself as a man rich in resources, with particular interest in Renaissance and Baroque art. A predilection that often emerges in the design of the collections of the jewelry company. On the one hand, attention to the contemporary mood, to the trends of luxury. On the other hand, the search for classical elegance, symmetry, innovation in tradition. The Yasmeen collection is part of this philosophy: a woman’s name, Gelsomina in Arabic, but also a flower.

Like clusters of the fragrant flower found in the warmer countries, the jewels of the collection are now also interpreted with clusters of diamonds, pink sapphires and rubellite, seen at VicenzaOro September.

They are pieces on which it is impossible not to stop looking. The collection, which is now a some years old, has just been enriched with two new entries, a ring and a pair of earrings. The pieces are added to those with diamonds, sapphires and tanzanites, or total white diamonds. Pieces that were presented Baselworld long ago and then presented at the Couture in Las Vegas. The 120 golden bubbles of Nanis

The 120 golden bubbles of the Ivy necklace of the Dancing in the Rain collection by Nanis ♦ ︎

Nanis’s Dancing in the Rain collection does not lose its rhythm. The dance of Laura Bicego, mind and soul of Nanis, has now conceived a new piece of the collection that occupies a special place: the Ivy necklace. It is called this way, it is good to specify it, not because it recalls the leaves of the climbing plant, but because it is enveloping like ivy.

The necklace is composed of 120 light gold boules, with the hand-scratched surface.

While the beads that make up the necklace have that workmanship that makes them bright but opaque at the same time, the closure is, instead, in shiny gold, surrounded by a thin crown of diamonds. Not only that: the stop also serves to adjust the length of the jewel, which then can be worn in different ways: in a single thread, or with a shorter turn and a long pendant. Lavinia Andorno

This is the case of the Luce collection, a collection of jewelry that is renewed, inspired by the Nineties. In some cases the stones are cut with a curved surface, in order to follow the contours of the fingers. And the slightly domed look is a lot of part of the jewels that are part of the vast collection, which also uses onyx or Kogolong, a volcanic stone, polished like ceramics and hard as marble. The lines that form part of the Luce collection are called Sirius, Vega, Antares, Lyra, Polaris, Mizar, Libra, Isida, Virgo, Mira, Izar, Polis, Perseus, Swan, Atria, Gemini, Vela, Audra, Electra, Miriam, Aries, Alya.

Emporio Armani in color

Emporio Armani’s Fall Winter 2018 collection proposes bijoux in shades of gold enlivened with synthetic stones ♦︎

Fashion and jewelry or, more precisely, fashion designers and costume jewelry, constitute a stainless wedding. Those looking for something signed, or love a particular brand of clothing, often widens their preference to bracelets, necklaces, earrings, rings that bear the same brand engraved. This also applies to Emporio Armani, the line of sportswear by the famous Milanese designer. For some time the bijoux of this line, for men and women, are entrusted to an international brand such as Fossil. Which has recently presented the jewels for the autumn winter 2018.

Emporio Armani’s bijoux are made of metal as always, in some cases with yellow or pink gold pvd.

For men, bracelets and necklaces adopt the classic string of fabric or leather with military-style pendants. For the woman, shapes and designs are a little more elaborate, with dragonfly shapes, mother of pearl, synthetic stones of different colors placed on the surfaces of the pendants or earrings, as well as the ever-present stylized eagle brand, which is also present on the Emporio Armani designer clothes. The adorable curiouses of Daniela Villegas

///

The Curiosity collection by Daniela Villegas is dedicated to explorers and naturalists ♦ ︎

Imagine a woman totally in love with nature. So much to collect insects and conceive fantastic jewels that reproduce the shape of small animals, but also of wild flowers and plants. And now try to imagine who the heroes can be in the pantheon of Daniela Villegas, bold Mexican designer based in Los Angeles. The answer is easy: it is the botanists, explorers and naturalists who have studied and cataloged plants and animal species of the Earth. Men and women all animated by the same impulse, curiosity.

This is why the new collection by Daniela Villegas is called Curiosity.

This hunger to discover and understand the world in which we live is not only exciting for the designer (and for all of us), but also a source of inspiration for her jewelry. Each piece of the Curiosity collection, in fact, is dedicated to a scientist who has conquered one more piece of knowledge, has taken an unpublished photograph of nature, has understood unprecedented mechanisms of evolution.

But, beyond the scientific interest, the artistic one remains.

Because Daniela Villegas’s jewels are part of pure creativity. For example, with the series dedicated to Captain James Cook, the navigator who discovered New Zealand and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef on his ship HM Endeavor. With his travels they provided the first accurate map of the Pacific. While Daniela Villegas has created us the necklace in 18 carat gold, a glass lens, tourmalines, zircons, chrysoberines, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, diamonds and rock crystal quartz.
