The Hortensia line by the German house Stenzhorn makes extensive use of the invisible setting technique for rubies and diamonds.
The hortensia—a plant belonging to the *Hydrangea* genus—owes its common name to the naturalist Philibert Commerson; the name was reportedly chosen to honor Madame Nicole-Reine Lepaute, who was affectionately known as Hortensia. While a woman inspired the name of this large-flowered plant, it is the German house Stenzhorn that offers a collection celebrating it. Part of the brand’s high-jewelry Floral line, the Hortensia pieces remain in bloom year-round, thanks to the exceptional technical expertise of the company, which was founded on the banks of the Rhine.

The Stenzhorn Hortensia collection showcases one of the Maison’s signature techniques: the invisible setting. This method creates surfaces composed of pavé-style gems without any visible metal prongs. The floral motifs are rendered as four-petaled designs available in two versions: the first, a larger style, features diamonds and rubies, while the second—sharing the same design—uses pink sapphires. After all, hydrangeas are special precisely because they shift through various color shades after blooming.
