It’s Kinetic ring a game or a trend? The kinetic ring, which has within rubies that move like on carousel, can bring a smile, or it can make us reflect on what could become tomorrow’s jewelry. The ring was made by Desmond Chan with a 3D printer. The idea was born a few years ago, when Chan was looking for a perfect Christmas gift for his wife. Since it was proficient with 3D modeling and printing, it has decided to use this technology to achieve alone the gift. So he designed and printed a necklace with delicate starfish. From that experiment was born Vulcan Jewelery (http://www.vulcanjewelry.com), which offers rings, necklaces and bracelets inspired by the sea, animals, plants and more. All print in 3D, but in metal. The kinetic ring, for example, is made of silver, with three rubies that move inside (price: $ 275), but it may take even in yellow or pink gold. Other pieces, such as necklace with the cross, which is inspired by a work by Salvador Dali, are gold plated. The ring has within the spheres of rubies and is designed as a small silver cage in which are contained the small stones. The cage is designed as a series of concentric spirals: the inside is a kind of track where the rubies roll slowly when wearing the ring. Lavinia Andorno
