Is Hillary Clinton wearing Chinese jewelry? The news, if confirmed, will not please most Americans, who are very keen on promoting Made in the USA. This thesis is supported, however, not by a rumor collected among the stands of Vicenzaoro, but by an official statement by Wang Xiaoyan, vice mayor of Ma’anshan, a Chinese city in the province of Anhui. According to him, the outgoing US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, who visited China in May 2012, wore a set of jewelery made up of turquoises coming from the mines in the area. “The earrings, necklace and bracelet were all made of Ma’anshan turquoise,” Wang Xiaoyan said. The surrounding area of the city, in fact, is famous for its reserves of high-quality turquoise, so much so that Hefei, a metropolis near Ma’anshan, hosts an annual fair dedicated to this type of hard stone between 18 and 21 January.
