New high jewelry bu Sutra

The high jewelery of Sutra Jewels, with extraordinary pieces created by designer Arpita Navlakha ♦︎

It didn’t take long after its birth to see the Sutra Jewels collection on the red carpet at gala dinners, film festivals or fashion shows. Sutra jewels have been worn by Michelle Obama, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Adriana Lima, Catharine-Zeta Jones, Oprah, Olivia Wilde and Mila Kunis to name just a few celebrities. And to think that the Maison based in Texas, but founded in Mumbai by designer Arpita Navlakha, has just turned 15.

Since its foundation, however, some things have changed. For example, in the last two years Sutra has introduced the use of jewelry ceramics in its pieces: a choice that has expanded the number of combinations of materials used. However, alongside the gold and ceramics, the intensely colored gems remained, together with the geometric textures that recall art deco style mandalas. A style that embraces Western taste, but with oriental grace and meticulousness in the creation of jewellery.

Barbie’s jewels

Do you like pink? Do you want to wear pink jewelry? Are you looking for a pink necklace? Or a bracelet? Or … Here are many ideas ♦

There are many reasons to wear pink jewelry, Barbie’s favorite color. The first is that it is the light version of marsala, announced color of the year, according to Pantone. In addition, it is definitely more suited to this season; the second reason is that its tone, even the one tinged with gray tinge, embellishes any type of skin. And This alone would be enough to convince anyone. But there is another side to act as an incentive and comes from English: think pink!It means thinking positive. And indeed a beautiful bright pink is a burst of energy, a stimulus to good mood. So, although many of the color names have lost their multiplicity of meanings, even in some languages in common phrases characterize specific moods. So, ring, earrings or bracelet have also colored stones, faceted or cabochon, translucent or opaque. Provided that they are pink.

And more, pink is a positive color. It takes its name from the fragrant flower of the same name. But perhaps you don’t know that it was born quite recently: the name rose was used for the first time to indicate a shade of color only at the end of the 17th century. In the West (especially Europe and the United States), pink is the color associated with concepts of charm, kindness, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, childhood, femininity and romance. If the hue is very light, it is associated with chastity and innocence. On the contrary, a bright pink suggests eroticism and seduction.

The history of pink
One could write a history of the color pink. But, undoubtedly, the maximum popularity reached it in the mid-eighteenth century, when pastel colors became very fashionable in all the courts of Europe. The pink color in particular was highly appreciated by Madame de Pompadour (1721-1764), lover of King Louis XV of France, who often wore clothes that combined blue and pink. Not only that: she had a particular shade of pink created especially for her by the Sevres porcelain factory, apparently with small additions of blue, black and yellow.

Pink stones
But let’s talk about jewelry: in addition to pink gold, you have a wide choice of stones that have shades of rose. The most precious, and most expensive, is undoubtedly the diamond. Diamonds with pink shades are buyed for millions of dollars during the auctions. But luckily there are many other stones that also have this color tone in their repertoire: quartz, sapphire, mystic topaz, rhodolite garnet, morganite, kunzite, Malaya garnet, tourmaline, spinel, opal, zircon, pink pearl, moonstone , coral, smithsonite, pezzottaite, rhodochrosite and rhodonite. You only have the problem of choosing one.

Haute Jewels Geneva was born on the ashes of the dissolution of Baselworld and in conjunction with the other major event in the Swiss city, Watches and Wonders, dedicated to the world of haute horlogerie, which this year is held from 27 March to 2 April. Haute Jewels Geneva, organized inside the hotel overlooking the lake, is an appointment dedicated to discretion in a soft environment. Although Haute Jewels Geneva has grown since its inception, the organizers note, «one of its main objectives remains to remove the formality from the traditional trade fair experience, offering a relaxed atmosphere for both customers and exhibitors to discover exclusive jewelery designs».

Haute Jewels Geneva returns on March 26th

Haute Jewels Geneva, come back. There are 18 jewelry brands that will participate in the event to be held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva from March 26 to April 2, 2023. Haute Jewels Geneva is an idea of Michael Hakimian, CEO of Yoko London, who wanted to react in this way to his death of Baselworld. For this reason, the appointment in Geneva takes place in parallel with Watches and Wonders, dedicated to high jewelery, which in 2023 will take place from March 27 to April 2. Also in the hotels of the city, there are also other jewelry brands.

Haute Jewels Geneva, however, is organized as an event in itself. Also in 2023 is confirmed the participation of Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli, Sutra, Bayco, Eto Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi, Annamaria Cammilli, Barakà and Sicis.

Haute Jewels Geneva, positive balance

The idea worked. The report of Haute Jewels Geneva, which was held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva in conjunction with Watch & Wonders in the Swiss city on Lake Geneva, had a positive response. The event was attended by 18 big names in jewelry: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli, Sutra, Bayco, Eto Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi, Annamaria Cammilli , Barakà and Sicis.

The 2022 edition of Haute Jewels Geneva was an unequivocal success. We believe the triumph of this show marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the jewelry industry. Smaller commercial events composed of like-minded brands can offer a more focused, more enjoyable and beneficial luxury experience for both brands and visitors. We look forward to the 2023 edition of Haute Jewels Geneva.

The success of the “mini Baselword” is also due to the selection of brands and the atmosphere offered by the location. In the same hotel, although outside the Haute Jewels Geneva, there were also two other brands: Piero Milano and Dolce & Gabbana, an aspect that has probably contributed to attracting visitors.

In 18 for Haute Jewels Geneva

The time has come for the small Baselworld of jewelry, as some have dubbed it. From March 30 to April 5, at the Fairmont Grand Hotel in Geneva, 18 great names in jewelry give life to Haute Jewels Geneva. This is an event born after the evaporation of Baselworld and in conjunction with Watches and Wonders, a fair centered on fine watchmaking that takes place on the same days in the Swiss city. A first experiment had already been organized in 2019, but with only four exhibitors and with the subsequent suspension due to the covid. Now, however, the organizers led by Michael Hakimian, CEO of Yoko London, are back and with greater participation.

In all, therefore, the brands present at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva are 18, with a majority of Italian Maison: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Sutra, Crivelli, Bayco, Etho Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione , Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi Gioielli, Annamaria Cammilli, Barakà, Sicis.

Haute Jewels expands with Barakà and Sicis

The group of brands that will participate in Haute Jewels Geneva, an event designed for an international audience, at the same time as Watches and Wonders, focused on fine watchmaking, is expanding. The two events will take place, in fact, on the same dates, from March 30 to April 5. Two Italian companies are now added to the patrol of brands announced in the autumn: Baraka and Sicis. The first specializes in jewelry for the male world. The second, on the other hand, is famous for the use of the micromosaic technique. In all, therefore, the brands exhibiting at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva will be 18: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Sutra, Crivelli, Bayco, Etho Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi Gioielli, Annamaria Cammilli, Barakà, Sicis.

What promises to be a small exclusive fair was born from the need of jewelry companies to present themselves to an audience that no longer has the stage of Baselworld, which ended two years ago, at its disposal. A first taste of Haute Jewels Geneva took place already in 2019, with the first four jewelry brands (they were Yoko London, Crivelli, Sutra and Roberto Coin), while in the two previous years the idea was frozen by the epidemic. Visitors, in the organizers’ program, “will experience an intimate and luxurious environment for jewelry buyers and suppliers to conduct business, a concept that seems even more relevant after the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. With the opportunity to see each other face to face again, it promises to be a dynamic event, which combines the strength, creativity and experience of the participating brands “. Visitor registration is done on the site dedicated to the event.

Haute Jewels Geneva with 16 major brands

Farewell Baselworld. The Maisons of jewelry organize their fair, in combination with Watches and Wonders, the event dedicated to the top timepiece brands. The novelty, on the other hand, is called Haute Jewels Geneva, the international fair of high jewelery, which will be held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel from 30 March to 5 April 2022, simultaneously with the event dedicated to watches. In short, no return to Basel. The first taste of Haute Jewels Geneva was in 2019, in January, with the participation of four brands (Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra). The idea was liked and in 2020 the event was to be repeated with eight brands. But the pandemic forced the appointment to be canceled both in 2020 and in 2021.

In 2022, however, Haute Jewels Geneva will return with 16 major jewelry brands: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Sutra, Crivelli, Bayco, Eto Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi, Annamaria Cammilli. The decision of the brands marks, perhaps, the tombstone on the former great Baselworld watch and jewelry fair. On the other hand, the world changes quickly.

The perfumes of Kashmir in the Sutra collection

Arpita Navlakha was raised in Mumbai, while her husband Divyanshu was born in the capital, New Delhi. Today the two founders of Sutra, husband and wife, are based in Houston, Texas. They met by attending gemology courses at Gia in Carlsbad, California, and are now living in the United States: a love story that has turned into a profession. But they have not forgotten the colors and shades of India, the most magical country in the world. Sutra collections always have a soul that recalls the atmosphere of the sweet Asian land. For example, Arpita Navlakha has created a collection inspired by the fragrant and colorful gardens of Kashmir.

The collection includes many jewels, with surfaces that form leaves and flowers. As always, Sutra jewels use precious stones that form strong color contrasts: rubies and diamonds, opals and black and white diamonds. Not only that: gold, also in 18-carat gold, is sometimes used on the same jewel in black and white. Strong contrasts, in short, just like India, but made harmonious by the composition chosen by the designer and so rich that the eyes shine.

War of the jewelery fairs: Pasquale Bruni returns, but …

Pasquale Bruni returns to participate in an event together with other jewelers. But this are not VicenzaOro and above all Baselworld. The jeweler of Valenza, who about a year ago decided to stop the usual presences in the two major European jewelery fairs, instead decided to join Haute Jewels Geneva, together with Yoko London (who is the promoter of the initiative), Crivelli , Roberto Coin, Sutra, Bayco, Etho Maria and Stenzhorn.

Modella con gioielli di Pasquale Bruni

The surprise concerns both the mode and the choice of data. Haute Jewels Geneva, in fact, is held from 26 to 28 April, coinciding with the Sihh, the event dedicated to haute horlogerie which will always take place in the Swiss city from 26 to 29 April. Not only. Haute Jewels Geneva will precede Baselworld very little (April 30 – May 5).

And it is precisely this concentration of events that advised GemGenève, another high jewelery fair, to postpone research for the whole year (5-8 November). And so, Haute Jewels Geneva, which started last year with the presence of only four companies (Yoko London, Crivelli, Roberto Coin and Sutra), doubles this year. The idea is not to create a simple mini-fair, but to show the jewels in a more intimate and relaxed atmosphere: in fact, it will take place in the ballroom of the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva (ex Grand Hotel Kempinski) from 10 at 20.

With Sutra a modern in ancient way

Sutra’s jewels with rose-cut diamonds: innovation plus tradition ♦

Time runs, but sometimes it is necessary to wrap it and make it run backwards, as if it were a ball of roll to be compacted into a single mass. This also happens when creating something artistic or simply artisanal: we arrive at a point where the urge to find something new ends up discovering what is tradition. And this is all the more true for a brand that is a child of tradition, the Indian one, which has hundreds of years behind jewelery.

bracciale rose cut collection
Bracciale della Rose cut collection

Sutra Jewels, in fact, is a Maison born from the collaboration of husband and wife: Arpita and Divyanshu Navlakha, who founded the brand in 2008. They met while studying at the Gemological Institute of America and both come from families already active in the world of jewelry. In short, a lot of tradition behind it. Their jewels, however, are not tied to the classic Indian style. They are more modern, more western. Many colored stones, a lot of work to tell the jewel through the combination of gems. But sometimes, tradition knocks on the door. This is the case, for example, of the jewels proposed in spring, which use the rose-cut cut for diamonds, just like in ancient jewels. In short, innovation is good, but the roots are deep. Lavinia Andorno

Sutra spurts Scintillae

//

Sutra presents the Scintillae collection: white and black diamonds, emerald and sapphires that make up a brilliant mosaic ♦ ︎

What links Michelle Obama, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Adriana Lima, Catharine-Zeta Jones, Oprah, Olivia Wilde and Mila Kunis? Admiration for the work of another woman, the designer Arpita Navlakha. She is founder of Sutra, a company based in Mumbai and Texas, specialized in wow jewelry. Large stones, brilliant stones, colored stones, stones that make up geometries, stones that can be seen even at a distance of 100 meters, catwalk stones: Sutra’s jewels are the opposite of invisibility.

At Baselworld the Maison presented many new features, including the Scintillae collection.

Orecchini della collezione Scintillae
Orecchini della collezione Scintillae

Scintillae, in fact, in Latin indicates a tiny luminous glow, a small flash like that of a firework. The name chosen is quite surprising if we consider the language, but it is guessed by the relevance to the subject, that is the jewels. In fact, earrings, bracelet and ring get sparking. The jewels use white and black diamonds, emerald and sapphires for a contrasting effect that increases the sparkling power of the stones. Also because diamonds are composed in mosaics supported by almost invisible prongs.

The colorful Sutra butterflies

/

Butterflies with diamonds and colored stones by Sutra, symbol, memory, nature ♦ ︎

According to historians, the first butterflies depicted by man date back to the frescoes of 3,500 years ago in ancient Egypt. In short, butterflies have become a subject for art since the human race began its journey. A sign that colorful-winged insects have never lost their charm. So much so that, besides becoming subjects for paintings and sculptures, they were often transformed into jewels. Necklaces, earrings, pendants and rings in the shape of a butterfly, sooner or later, have attracted the attention of all the great Maison of jewelry.

Sutra proposes this classic theme with the Butterfly collection.

Sutra, Butterfly collection
Sutra, Butterfly collection

As is the style of the jewelery brand founded by Arpita and Divyanshu Navlakha, the Sutra butterfly rivals the most colorful butterflies. Butterflies are also a memory of Arpita’s youth in Mumbai. Diamonds are set together with emeralds, sapphires, aquamarines or tourmalines in a light design like the wings of real butterflies. In some cases, as in earrings, butterflies are divided into two: each wing on one ear. Or both wings are placed on a frame of white or pink gold.

High jewelery for 5 in Geneva

/

Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra, more de Grisogono: high jewelry for five in Geneva ♦ ︎

For a few days, Geneva becomes the capital of high jewelery. For the truth, in the Swiss city, which is the world capital of watchmaking, many jewelers reside all year round, such as de Grisogono, Chopard, Adler, Nadia Morgenthaler, Baunat, to name but a few. But, in particular, in the first days of January two important events are planned. An appointment is scheduled at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva, from 13 to 17 January.

Grand Hotel Kempinski di Ginevra
Grand Hotel Kempinski di Ginevra

In fact, in the halls of the big hotel, Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli and Sutra decided to meet.

Four brands that have in high-jewelry their strength and that, for different reasons, are not competitors because they specialize in different kind of jewelry. Roberto Coin, for example, ranges from high jewelery to fine jewellry with flair and style that come from his Vicentine matrix. Gold worked, embroidery, modern style, sometimes surprising. Crivelli is an authority in the great jewels composed of hypnotic precious stones, with a loyal clientele as much as with an impassable privacy. Yoko London is a synonym of pearls: many, unique, juxtaposed with graceful luxury. Finally, Sutra has an Indian matrix grafted onto a market, the American one, which adores the colorful fantasy that inspires the work of the designer and founder, Arpita Navlakha. But it’s not over.

In Geneva, from January 13 to 18, also opens the doors also de Grisogono, with its exhibition of jewelry and exclusive watchmaking, but in the Royal Suite of the Four Seasons Hotel.

Hotel Four Season di Ginevra

The event also marks the debut in the new role of Céline Assimon, who became de Grisogono’s chief executive officer, in the position previously occupied by John Leitao. As Ceo, its mission is to develop the brand on an international scale and expand the product offering to reach a wider clientele. And the Geneva appointment is a good opportunity.

Sutra in color or in black and white

With the colors of the rainbow or in black and white: the jewels of Sutra for the tenth anniversary ♦ ︎

The rainbow has inspired poets, writers and painters. But it has also inspired jewelry designers such as the Arpita couple and Divyanshu Navlakha, who founded the Maison Sutra just ten years ago. Rainbow is the name given to a collection of Sutras that, as you can imagine, includes multicolored jewels. Yet they are jewels made of one stone: the sapphire. This precious stone, in fact, can take on different colors, from blue to orange, from yellow to green.

Almost to balance this rainbow, Sutra also offers jewelry in a strict black and white.

The complementary collection at Rainbow is called, in fact, Black & White. Even the jewels of this collection are made with a single stone: the diamond, obviously in white or black version. But, in this case, they are available with white gold, or yellow or pink. In short, the two opposites used to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Indian Maison based in Texas. Giulia Netrese

Coin, Crivelli, Yoko and Sutra together in Geneva

Crivelli, Roberto Coin, Yoko London and Sutra organize their high jewelry fair in Geneva ♦ ︎

Are large jewelry fairs destined for decline? It is a legitimate question considering what is happening: a diaspora that seems unstoppable. Last year, in May, GemGenève has jointed a hundred jewelers who were unhappy about Baselworld (and for 2019 it will repeat the experiment). And, after the announcement that de Grisogono will disengage the Basel fair to give life to its own event in the third week of January, another four top Maison announce the birth of Haute Jewels Geneva, more or less on the same days (13- 17 January).

The brands that have decided to associate are all prestigious: Crivelli, Roberto Coin, Yoko London and Sutra (however will be in Baselworld).

These are extremely prestigious brands that, evidently, have decided to carve out a different space. Also the modalities of the mini-fair will be different: the opening time sled from 14 to 22, to make the meeting between the public and jewelry more relaxing. Not only that: the jewelers have chosen the location: the Grand Hotel Kempinski Geneva, a five-star hotel that ensures a warmer atmosphere than that of a booth.

High jewelry by Sutra

The first ten years of Sutra were celebrated with a series of high-end jewelery pieces ♦ ︎
Sutra in 2018 is ten years old. The Indian Maison, in fact, was founded by designer Arpita and her husband Divyanshu Navlakha in 2008. Arpita takes care of the creative direction, while Divyanshu, who comes from a family of jewelers in the area of Dehli, takes care of the business. In ten years many achievements have been achieved by the brand, which has chosen the path of great jewelry, also appreciated by celebrities such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Catharine-Zeta Jones, Michelle Obama, Priyanka Chopra, Oprah and Mila Kunis. Sutra’s jewels are made in Mumbai, but the Maison also has a commercial office in Texas and a widespread distribution in the United States. Although the Sutra jewelery standard is always very high, for the number ten birthday the company has also produced a special series of fine jewelry. They are one-of-a-kind pieces, with stones ranging from emeralds to paraiba tourmaline, from diamonds to tanzanites. The result, which you see in the pictures, is worthy for the celebrations of the tenth anniversary.

The mosaic of Sutra

///

The Mosaic collection by Sutra: small stones compositions in blue or red shades ♦ ︎
A sentence is, after all, a mosaic of words. And Sutra is a Sanskrit word, the ancient language of India, which means “collection of sacred verses”, then a treasure translated into a composition of words. A concept as from the Mosaic collection by Sutra: the Indian Maison, based in Mumbai and Austin, Texas, offers jewelry that always has stones of great charm at its center. In the Mosaic collection, for example, can be opals the individual elements that make up a jewel. The collection plays on two shades: blue and red. As in the bracelet with 75 karats of opals, 7 karats of sapphires and 6 carats of diamonds mounted on 18-carat white gold. But not only: the earrings, for example, have a mosaic made of turquoise, emeralds and diamonds, always on white gold, as well as a bracelet. In the red-toned version, however, the jewels are composed of sapphires, coral and ruby, or white gold diamonds and rubies. Alessia Mongrando

Baselworld: win or flop?

Baselworld 2018, number of visitors unchanged. Here’s who is happy and who is puzzled among jewelers ♦ ︎
It depends. The final judgment on Baselworld 2018 can be summarized as follows: it depends. Because the Basel Watch and Jewelery Fair (22-26 March 2018) had two faces. One is the one summarized by two numbers: 1300 and 650. The first is the number of exhibitors, already declining, in 2017 (there were 1500 in 2016). The second is the number of exhibitors in 2018, less than half. A massacre. «A selection», he prefers to call it the managing director of Mch, the company that organizes Baselworld. But, in fact, it depends on the points of view. Faced with such a drastic reduction could have been much worse. The final balance of Baselworld 2018, in the words of the organizers is, if not exciting, at least sufficient. The number of visitors, for example, “has remained stable”. Since the fair lasted two days less, this is considered a success. At the moment we do not know the number of buyers present. 4,400 journalists came to Baselworld, 15% less from Europe, but 5% more from Asia. And if many big brands, such as Festina or Dior, this year have defected the Basel fair, Breitling, Rolex, Patek Philippe, Swatch, Chanel and Gucci have already announced that they will also be present next year, from 21 to 26 March 2019 .
And exhibitors? The opinions are different. Again, it depends. Among the opinions collected by gioiellis.com among jewelers, prevails a lack of enthusiasm for the new formula “concentrated”, which for some is “sad” when compared to the atmosphere that was breathed until a couple of years ago. But at the same time, many have confirmed that commercial activity has not been lacking and, therefore, the presence in Basel still has a reason for being. From the comments collected during the fair, we can summarize the mood:
We are equally satisfied: Fope, Pasquale Bruni, Nanis, Alessio Boschi, Tamara Comolli, Picchiotti, Messika, Mattioli, Rivière
Everything is OK, but some perplexities: Casato, Annamaria Cammilli, Leo Pizzo, Yoko London, Giovanni Ferraris, Djoula, Facet, Crivelli
No comment: Coronet, Sutra, Butani

Sutra in red and pink

/

The Sutra jewels in the shades from pink to red. Different colors, different prices ♦ ︎
What would be the jewelery without fantasy? A simple gold band, always equal, perhaps with a diamond embedded on the edge. Not that a diamond ring is despicable, of course, but jewelery is also something else. It’s extravagance, invention and, last but not least, cheerfulness to wear. If, then, fantasy is married to luxury, the couple can only introduce children as the ones that grow together with the Sutra brand (see also: On the Sutra wings) in the mind of Indian designer Arpita Navlakha. The brand, which has carried the experience and tradition of colored stones in the US, every year shows some interesting pieces and, above all, manages to offer a range ranging from the high jewelery to luxury collections wirh less unreachable by a price point. An example of the two categories are, for example, The Angel Skin and the Pink Spinel Collection, where colors from red to pink prevail (price: from $ 8,000 to $ 30,000). On the same colors, however, the earrings of the high jewelery collection with rubellite and spinello rise at a price of 65.ooo euro. To you the choice. Giulia Netrese
