Sicis Jewels on Saturn

Saturn is the sixth planet in the solar system from the Sun and the second most massive planet, after Jupiter. But it is also the most mysterious star, with its rings and 146 satellites. For this reason it also played a role in culture, mythology and some religious beliefs. It is not surprising, therefore, that Saturn is also a source of inspiration for jewelry. As in the case of the Saturno collection by Sicis, spotted at Haute Jewels Geneva. Creative director Gioia Placuzzi designed the ring, earrings and necklace with the maison’s typical technique: micro mosaic.

The tiny tiles make up the starry sky, set on the yellow gold base, enlivened with diamonds and large golden South Sea pearls. The collection adds to the now vast repertoire of the maison. Other novelties, for example, have been added to the Giardino collection, where the micro mosaic composes small flowers in pink shades, combined with a drop-cut tanzanite and sapphires.

In this case the collection also features modular rings: the two elements that make up the jewel can be worn together in a single jewel, divided, or one at a time, separately.

Sicis to conquer China

The Italian jewels with micro mosaic by Sicis Jewels take home in Hong Kong. The Italian brand from Ravenna, which combines the ancient technique of micro mosaic with high jewelry, opens its new boutique in Hong Kong. The boutique was opened in collaboration with Carlson, a historic retailer of fine jewelery and watches and is located inside the China Building on Queen’s Road Central. The sales point is approximately 60 square meters, with interiors entirely created by Sicis, inspired by its interior design products (the parent company also produces mosaics, furniture, environments) with oriental decorative elements, gold and glass panels, which evoke the preciousness of onyx. The boutique will host all the maison’s latest collections, along with special pieces created specifically for the Chinese market, offering customers a unique and refined selection of jewellery.

Haute Jewels Geneva was born on the ashes of the dissolution of Baselworld and in conjunction with the other major event in the Swiss city, Watches and Wonders, dedicated to the world of haute horlogerie, which this year is held from 27 March to 2 April. Haute Jewels Geneva, organized inside the hotel overlooking the lake, is an appointment dedicated to discretion in a soft environment. Although Haute Jewels Geneva has grown since its inception, the organizers note, «one of its main objectives remains to remove the formality from the traditional trade fair experience, offering a relaxed atmosphere for both customers and exhibitors to discover exclusive jewelery designs».

Haute Jewels Geneva returns on March 26th

Haute Jewels Geneva, come back. There are 18 jewelry brands that will participate in the event to be held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva from March 26 to April 2, 2023. Haute Jewels Geneva is an idea of Michael Hakimian, CEO of Yoko London, who wanted to react in this way to his death of Baselworld. For this reason, the appointment in Geneva takes place in parallel with Watches and Wonders, dedicated to high jewelery, which in 2023 will take place from March 27 to April 2. Also in the hotels of the city, there are also other jewelry brands.

The new Sicis flowers

/

New rings, same art. Sicis, a small Italian Maison that has the use of the micro mosaic technique as its hallmark, has prepared new pieces of high jewelry. The occasion to present the new creations was Haute Jewels Geneva, an event dedicated to high-end jewelery to coincide with Watch & Wonders. On that occasion, the creative director of Sicis, Gioia Placuzzi, showed a new version of the Bohemian Dream ring, a jewel in the shape of a large flower, presented with shades that alternate from blue-violet to yellow-orange of the micromosaic and with a cluster of diamonds in the center, like stamens.

Anello con acquamarina e micro mosaico
Anello con acquamarina e micro mosaico

Not only. Sicis also presented other extraordinary jewels, such as a decomposable ring that has a large aquamarine in the center, surrounded by blue, green and red micromosaic elements, positioned like petals of a flower. A different compositional idea, but always with a floral inspiration, is instead that of another ring with a spectacular yellow diamond of 7.78 carats in the center. In addition to the micromosaic, in this case, the main stone is accompanied by a series of other brilliant-cut white diamonds. Or, again, the Butterfly Romance necklace, with a butterfly motif in a new passion red version, with the play of color created by the alternation between pink and white gold.

Absolute novelty is the Crazy Moon line: a whirlwind of semicircles of various sizes enriched with diamonds, amethysts, emeralds and sapphires. The seven separable rings of the Tesserae collection are each characterized by a central stone between 7 and 11 carats, which determines their style and personality. The central stone can be isolated from the micromosaic setting, to be recomposed as desired.

Haute Jewels Geneva, positive balance

The idea worked. The report of Haute Jewels Geneva, which was held at the Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva in conjunction with Watch & Wonders in the Swiss city on Lake Geneva, had a positive response. The event was attended by 18 big names in jewelry: Yoko London, Roberto Coin, Crivelli, Sutra, Bayco, Eto Maria, Stenzhorn, Marco Bicego, Mariani, Palmiero, Picchiotti, Gorgoglione, Hans D. Krieger, Leo Pizzo, Verdi, Annamaria Cammilli , Barakà and Sicis.

The 2022 edition of Haute Jewels Geneva was an unequivocal success. We believe the triumph of this show marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the jewelry industry. Smaller commercial events composed of like-minded brands can offer a more focused, more enjoyable and beneficial luxury experience for both brands and visitors. We look forward to the 2023 edition of Haute Jewels Geneva.

The success of the “mini Baselword” is also due to the selection of brands and the atmosphere offered by the location. In the same hotel, although outside the Haute Jewels Geneva, there were also two other brands: Piero Milano and Dolce & Gabbana, an aspect that has probably contributed to attracting visitors.

In 18 for Haute Jewels Geneva

The time has come for the small Baselworld of jewelry, as some have dubbed it. From March 30 to April 5, at the Fairmont Grand Hotel in Geneva, 18 great names in jewelry give life to Haute Jewels Geneva. This is an event born after the evaporation of Baselworld and in conjunction with Watches and Wonders, a fair centered on fine watchmaking that takes place on the same days in the Swiss city. A first experiment had already been organized in 2019, but with only four exhibitors and with the subsequent suspension due to the covid. Now, however, the organizers led by Michael Hakimian, CEO of Yoko London, are back and with greater participation.

The enchanted fate of Sicis

//

Gioia Placuzzi, creative director of Sicis Jewels, followed an enchanted destiny. The queen of the micro mosaic, after graduating in economics from Bocconi University in Milan and specializing in marketing at the Cass Business School in London, followed her passion until she graduated as a Graduate Gemologist at the Gemological Institute of America in London. The art of gems was then put into practice with the jewelry division of the family business, the Italian Sicis, specializing in mosaics.

But Incantate Destiny is also the name of the new high jewelery necklace. It is a special piece in white gold, with diamonds for 14.33 carats, tanzanites for 3.91 carats and rubellites for 4.23 carats. But the even more special aspect, in addition to the richness of the materials used, lies in the meticulous and patient work of composition through thousands of micro mosaic tiles, set to form the jewel’s pavé. No wonder that 300 hours of work were required to make this necklace. It is the destiny of Sicis expert craftsmen.

The precious flower of Sicis

//

x

A new high jewelery ring signed by Sicis. Those who know the brand from Ravenna (Italy) know that the specialty of the house are micro mosaics: tiny glass tiles that are meticulously placed together to form figures and geometries on the jewels. In the high jewelery line, this ancient technique is accompanied by the use of gold and precious stones. As in the case of the last piece, called Bohemian Dream, in which diamonds coexist with the micro mosaic to form the pistils of a large flower. It is a unique piece, which is added to the other high jewelery creations.

Sicis jewels are considered among the most original and innovative in the jewelry scene. They are the result of the work of the Sicis creative director, Gioia Placuzzi, who joined the family business after graduating from Bocconi University in Milan in Business and Management and specialized in Marketing and Strategy at the Cass Business School in London. But, after a traditional managerial career within the Italian company, Gioia Placuzzi studied the secrets of precious stones and became a Free Gemologist at the Gemological Institute of America in London. Then, she started work with the Sicis Jewel division of the Italian company. In 2018 she became the creative director with the aim of growing the Sicis brand and business of jewelry and watchmaking, enhancing the special micromosaic atelier inside the company: a centuries-old technique that now lives a second youth.

Sicis’s game of fantasy

//

The exuberant imagination of Gioia Placuzzi, Sicis art director, has resulted in a new series of jewels. It is a series of seven rings of high jewelery, with the name of Tesserae collection, which do not bother to break the traditional schemes to navigate in absolute freedom. As always, alongside gold and precious and semi-precious stones, the jewels are also made with the use of the micro mosaic technique, the Sicis specialty.

The Secret Garden ring, for example, uses a 7.66-carat Fancy Yellow diamond. A rare gem, surrounded by a delicate flower frame in diamonds, white and yellow, and micromosaic: tiny tiles that can only be used by the very expert hands of the Maison’s artisans. Furthermore, the ring can be broken down into two jewels, with or without micromosaic. Another eclectic piece is Life, the name of a ring with a large 9.31-carat peridot. Around the stone there are small hemispheres elaborated in emerald green and purple amethyst micromosaic, all surrounded by diamonds and pink sapphires. Joyful, on the other hand, is a ring that sports a yellow sapphire of 11.70 carats from which, like rays, micromosaic elements, micro tesserae in shades of yellow, blue topaz and diamonds.

The Infinity ring has a 9.25-carat emerald-cut tanzanite in the center, which enhances the facets of its color between blue and purple and is surrounded by stylized butterfly wings. Concentric designs made with fine micromosaic miniatures, an intricate three-dimensionality of shapes and colors. These rings can also be disassembled, for a multipurpose use: the central element with the stone can be worn alone or completed with a micromosaic dress.

Sicis, rhombus as high jewelry

//

The word lozenge is a term used in heraldry to indicate a geometric figure of four sides with the upper and lower angles acute, while the two lateral ones are obtuse. In short, a rhombus for geometry that you learn at school. But it is also a very popular geometric figure for fabrics and some dresses. Now Losange is also the name of a high jewelery necklace and earrings created for Sicis by the art director of the Maison of Ravenna (Italy), Gioia Placuzzi.

Collana e orecchini indossati

Like the other Sicis jewels, the necklace is made with tiny micromosaic tiles in glass paste, combined with precious stones and gold. In particular, the necklace is made up of diamonds, pink sapphires, sunset blue and orange, emeralds, amethysts as well as, last but not least, precious micromosaic miniatures. The necklace is composed of many rhombus-shaped elements in shades of red and blue, dotted with the green of small emeralds, and the purple and pink of sapphires. A complex composition, which transforms an angular geometry, such as that of the lozenge, into a soft jewel.

The Sicis alphabet

/

A, B, C, etc.: how many things can be said with a simple letter like those in the Alphabet collection by Sicis? The letter can refer to an initial of a word, a name, a month, or maybe a password that you forget too often. Collections based on the letters of the alphabet serve this purpose too. But of course, the first interesting aspect is that of the possibility of being worn.

Sicis, lettera Y

The Alphabet collection by Sicis transforms letters into amulets. The letters are made with the micromosaic technique, combined with dense decorations of diamonds, rubies and other precious stones. The idea belongs to the art director, Gioia Placuzzi, who with her collaborators started from the history and culture of the alphabet, to develop a free interpretation, a fascinating project, where the letters become figurative signs, chromatic seductions, poetic metaphors , verbal games. The letters are combined with leather laces, which add an unconventional look to the jewel.

Sicis high jewelry flies to New York

From Ravenna to the Big Apple: Sicis Jewels participates in the first edition of the year of JA New York, one of the main jewelery fairs for the entire east coast of the USA (March 15-17). Objective: to introduce the elaborate processing of Sicis Jewels to the American public. In particular, the micromosaic technique, made of precious minerals and gold, melted and then woven into special chopsticks, elaborated by hand by expert masters.

Sicis, collana Butterfly
Sicis, collana Butterfly

A technique that is then enhanced by the art director, Gioia Placuzzi, the soul of the brand, and her staff. The micromosaic technique was adopted by Sicis after 20 years of research and studies: it is a process born in the eighteenth century in Rome and today. The examples that Sicis brings to New York give a good idea of what type of jewelry can be produced. Like the Quetzal set inspired by the exotic tropical bird, with diamonds and tanzanites. The butterflies that seem to fly on bright gold threads and diamonds in the Butterfly set. Or the Calipso necklace, designed remembering the nymph told in the Odyssey, with infinitesimal micro-mosaic tiles that form special drops that are intertwined with Akoya pearls. Another example is that of the Alphabet collection, which transforms simple letters into amulets, with the micromosaic that designs miniatures together with diamonds, rubies and other gems.

Calipso, nymph daughter of Atlas, who in the Odyssey welcomes the shipwrecked Odysseus on the island of Ogigia and, in love with him, holds him for seven years, until he receives the order from Zeus to let him leave. A woman undoubtedly fascinating also in the eyes of the Sicis designers, who dedicated some high jewelery pieces to Calipso.

As always the jewels of Sicis, Maison based in Ravenna, combine gold and precious stones with a delicate micro mosaic work. The Calipso necklace, furthermore, use 165 special and precious Akoya Light Blue pearls woven in a gold weave, alongside brilliant cut diamonds that intertwine and embrace elements decorated with micromosaic. Hundreds of tiny tiles line up and create designs in shades of sapphire blue and white, sinuous play of color and imperceptible reflections. The necklace, in particular, is a piece of high jewelery and of great value, not only for the difficult processing of the piece, but also for the quantity of Akoya pearls used. Surely Calipso would have liked it too.

Sicis flowers and feathers in Singapore

Flowers and colored feathers composed of gold and precious stones with micro mosaics presented by Sicis in Singapore ♦ ︎

Sicis micro mosaics get to JeweLuxe Singapore (from October 16th). The event dedicated to the design of jewelery and watches also hosts the novelties of the Italian company from Ravenna, which has renewed the technique of micro mosaic: each jewel is composed of gold, precious stones and thousands of microscopic crystal pieces specially created and glued one to one. A job that often requires hundreds of hours of application.

The design of each model was created to improve the incredible complexity of this process brought to new splendor by Sicis jewels through a demanding path of study and research. Each object is unrepeatable, since the micro-splinters are forged and segmented with a completely manual process and subsequently laid one by one by skilled micro-mosaic artists. In Singapore, Sicis offers new pieces of floral lines, but also colored feathers, presented in recent months, in a game of diamonds and gold, cabochon rubies. They are jewels, but also small works of art that make better when they are seen live.

Sicis flowers

///

The Sicis micro mosaic between flowers and Art Deco, here are the new jewels ♦ ︎

Micro mosaic, great result. Sicis, a Ravenna-based company specialized in mosaic activity, which also brings its expertise in fine jewelry, presented the latest creations at VicenzaOro September. The micro mosaic technique, this time, is used for jewels that have a floral subject.

Sicis, orecchini con ametista
Sicis, orecchini con ametista

Sicis fine jewelery, however, is not only micro mosaic, but also gold and precious stones, such as the bright marquise-cut rubellites used for rings and earrings, or amethysts or pavé diamonds. But the micro mosaic should not be underestimated: the shades of colors on the surfaces of the jewel are made with thousands of tiny fragments of glass created ad hoc: a job that can take hundreds of hours and an indefinite number of tests to find the right nuance.

Only Sicis Jewels, as far as we know, is able to use this technique, which is declined in jewels that are inspired by art deco, or give space to the creativity of the company’s designer. Which, in addition to colors, also focuses on the originality of the form factor: for example, some elements of jewels are mobile.

The jewelry of sea

The jewels inspired by the sea: perfect to be worn in August, but even better in the other months of the year ♦

The month of August, in the northern hemisphere (ie the one that goes from the North Pole to the equator), coincides with the hottest month, often destined for all or part to holidays. And often the holidays have a color: the blue of the sea. Waves, fish, crabs, starfish, hedgehogs are also the symbols that jewelers from all over the world and from all ages have used to bring the taste of the sea into a jewel. Brooches, rings, earrings, pendents with the symbols of the sea, including waves, are for this reason one of the most recurrent sources of inspiration. In short, the sea is a reason that shows no sign of passing out of fashion. And marine-themed jewels are not necessarily be worn in the summer.

In jewelery the seabed is populated by many precious fish with different names: Tiffany, Sicis, Pippo Perez, Lokman Kursunlu, Misis, Stephen Webster, Chopard, Lydia Courteille, Chantecler, S’Agapò, Ayala Bar … Some take up the mythology Greek, as associates of the god Neptune, others seem to come from the book of Jules Verne 20 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and still others resemble Dory, Brutus and Randa, Marlin’s traveling companions in Finding Nemo. In silver and enamel, or in gold, platinum and diamonds, colorful and playful like in animated or stylized and luxurious films, fishes are friends, non food. G.N.

Sicis among the stars

Tiny pieces of gold, enamel, stones are used to compose the Etoile collection by Sicis ♦ ︎

Tiny pieces of micromosaic in glassy paste, combined with precious stones and gold. It looks like an alchemic formula and, basically, it is. The tradition of mosaic, and then of micromosaic, is ancient. But it requires considerable manual skill, which only those with long experience can understand and translate into work. Even more so when it comes to jewels, such as those proposed by Sicis, a company based in Ravenna, a city that preserves wonderful Byzantine mosaics in its churches.

Sicis, orecchini con minuscole tessere di micromosaico in pasta vetrosa, uniti a pietre preziose e oro

The new collection that uses the micromosaic technique is called Etoile and, it could not be otherwise, reproduces five-pointed gold stars, elaborated in the colors and shades of blue and black. The tiles, infinitely small, are enameled, hand-made by art masters who combine them one by one together with precious stones. They are composed in this way complex glue, or more simple, combined with laces, rings and earrings. M.d.B.
