Author’s pearls on the wings

Necklaces and earrings of the Wing line and by Autore: two models only, but with many variants ♦ ︎
The Rosario Autore’s pearls, an Italian that has become a celebrity in Australia, are famous all over the world. From pearls farm it is over time transformed itself into a Maison able to propose collections of particularly refined jewels. The pearls, on the other hand, are so perfectly designed to make designers’ work easier. The Autore brand has so wins the challenge to add new interest to such a perfect material. The evidence it is the vast collection of jewels that takes the name of Timeless collection.
Within this ensemble of jewels, in the first part of 2017 Autore has inserted a line, called Wing. Pearls are, in fact, supported by a wing-shaped set. The little Wing collection consists of only two pieces: a necklace and a pair of earrings. In contrast, there are three variants for the color of gold and stones, diamonds, amethysts or sapphires that are embedded in the metal. It also changes the color of the pearls: white or pink, golden, dark. Demonstrating the many opportunities to the an element in appearance looks as simple as the pearl. Alessia Mongrando

Bliss into the ocean

Bijoux for the summer signed by Bliss: pearls white, blue and red dedicated to the island of Tenerife ♦
Bijoux for summer, colored bijoux, bijoux to wear without thinking twice. Bliss (brand of the Damiani group) proposes a collection of jewelery coordinated with the climate and mood of the hot season. Not surprisingly, the line of jewels is dedicated to an island where the sea and the strong colors are predominant: Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, in the full Atlantic Ocean. The island is known for its horizons, the moonlit, harsh landscape. And Bliss’s collection takes on intense shades: beads red of coral pasta, turquoise, and cultured pearls combined together. Necklaces, bracelets and contrarié rings are made with details in 18-karat gold in pink or white shades. Prices range from 89 to 249 euros. M.d.B.

The new pearls of Yoko London

The new jewels of Yoko London, always with exceptional quality pearls ♦
In the spring of 2017 Yoko London opened a new boutique in London, in Knightsbridge. And in March, he presented his new jewels to Baselworld. As always, they are organized in two families: bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces to wear in any time, and special pieces, Masterpiece (at special prices), for great occasions. But both jewelery lines share the same basic element: the pearls. Of great quality, colorful, large, small, shiny or opaque, of Thaïti or australian: all pearls that often form jewels that are far from the simple thread to the ladies’ neck. In short, pearls combined with fantasy and design.
Yoko London already has a considerable history behind it: it was founded in 1973, and is now led by the third generation of the Hakimian family. The wire has always been that of pearls, in natural colors and often of exceptional size. Among the novelties presented at Baselworld, there was also a bracelet with Akoya pearls and diamonds mounted on white gold. Alessia Mongrando

Nikos Koulis in Lingerie

The new collection by Nikous Koulis: it’s called Lingerie and uses silvery pearls of Thaiti ♦
Last year, for the second consecutive time, he won the Haute Couture at the Couture Design Awards in Las Vegas. An acknowledgment worthy of being a statue of the Oscars for the movie world. Obviously, Nikos Koulis is on the wave. This is demonstrated by the fact that her new collection, Lingerie, debuted in New York, behind the glasses of Bergdorf Goodman.
The name of the collection does not have to create misunderstandings: it is not about dresses, but it’s an allusion to sensuality. To make seductive, jewels are made with silver Tahiti pearls, which contrast with sharp geometric lines, as it is in the style of Nikos. The contrast, in fact, has its appeal.
The Lingerie collection is another step in a designer who combines essential, modern lines with materials and references to the classic world. Nikos Koulis is a Greek designer who comes from a jeweler family in Athens, but has Studied Gemology and Glyptography at the Gemological Institute of America. Since 2006 he starts with the brand with his name. In June of 2014 he opened his first concept boutique in Mykonos and then in Athens. In 2016 it was the turn of Santorini where, he says, there is a sensual atmosphere. Perfect for Lingerie collection. Lavinia Andorno

Stardust by Autore

Stardust by Autore, the new collection of the Australian group specializing in pearls.
Stardust. But at Baselworld the Australian label Autore will bring his favorite stars: the pearls. The Stardust collection, however, is also inspired by the stars of the sky that can be seen in the southern hemisphere of the planet. Rosario Autore, ceo of Maison specializing in jewelry with pearls, says that once again the jewels combining “the classic design with a contemporary style.” Also new is Essence collection, a new line of affordable jewelry. Also in this case the jewels are based on the South Seas pearls, but with the aim of being suitable for everyday use. It must say that Autore is not limited only to study new lines of jewelry, but also strives in pearl farming techniques. So much so that, together with the University of Queensland, he has paved the way for genetic selection of valuable products of pearl oysters, with the aim of improving their quality. For this he received the Partners in Excellence Award Research 2016. Lavinia Andorno

The Vanity of Giovanni Ferraris

The new Vanity collection signed by Giovanni Ferraris: colored pearls, fancy diamonds, gold, and a taste a little retro.
“After learning the craft of art goldsmith with passion, Giovanni Ferraris decided to devote himself to the development and production of his ideas.” Thus began the mini autobiography of one of the most sophisticated brands of Italian jewelery, born in the cradle of Valenza. In 1985, in fact, Ferraris founded his Maison and without spending too much time, it has established itself as a reality of the first floor. His collections are always of jewelry with “J” capital. As with Vanity: Giovanni Ferraris took the opportunity VicenzaOro to present new pieces. The collection is centered on the eternal union of gold, diamonds and large pearls, with shades from pink to gold, up to violet. It has one aspect more than the classic, almost with an eye to the Roaring years, in a past dream. Long necklaces, rings and earrings, to which are added small balls faceted fancy cut diamonds with an antique rose cut. Refinements. But beware: the work of the Italian brand is not only marked by the retro feel. This is demonstrated, for example, one of the classic collections such as Twist, where butterflies in sapphires and diamonds are the result of a patented set. So how it is leading the use of titanium, as in earrings with diamonds and sapphires also worn by soprano Anna Netrebko. Lavinia Andorno

Qayten sounding Jingle

Waterfalls, gold falls, poetry and design: the precious Qayten menu for the Jingle collection.
You can associate a pair of earrings to a sound? Is it realistic to think that a jewel has echoes of a poem by Lord Byron? Design can reproduce the natural beauty of a waterfall? The answer to all three questions is that, yes, you can as long as you knock on the Qayten’s door, young and vibrant small Italian jewelry boutique that makes of design its flag (we have already spoken here). As in the Jingle collection. The jewels of this collection are inspired by the Marmore waterfalls near Terni (Italy), which with their height difference of 165 meters had enchanted the english poet and patriot, and consist of small waterfalls and vivid gold and diamonds. Qayten, which benefits from the experience of a long-time designer (in this case we are not in front of some young debut), has chosen a particular way for the establishment of its collections and immediately gained a prominent place in the small stalls reserved for true innovators. Not by chance in last VicenzaOro, the Bologna Maison has been invited in the area dedicated to 12 samples of international design. Among his most popular collections is also Twist, which has put at the center of the pearls composition. Prices: the Jingle earrings, have a suggested price of about $ 8,400. Earrings of Twist collection have a suggested retail price of $ 9,500, the Twist long necklace (made up of eight wires of 1 meter each) $ 33,000, the Twist necklace with white and yellow baby Akoya and closing with sapphires $ 18,000. Do not think, of course, to find them in some jewelry store randomly chosen. The pieces of Qayten are located in selected retailers and, in any event, probably not with the complete collections. The company then either send an email to info@qayten.net to locate your nearest dealer.

Pelamidis in the name of Aphrodite

He claims to be inspired by nature, but there is also a lot of architecture in Michael Pelamidis jewelry, designer born in Greece and grew up in Paris, where he graduated (Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Joaillerie De Paris). After spending many years working between Bangkok and Hong Kong, the designer moved to Athens, where he creates collections with a strong contrast of colors, volumes and material: two-tone quartz, rutile and tourmaline seem to dominate polish gold, cascading baroque pearls are opposed to branches of gold silver plated. In short, they are jewels that surprise for organic forms and dynamic, almost snappy and very wild in the collection Biomorphic, more intellectual, but always natural in the collection Thalassa, with golden ripples that remind of Aphrodite’s myth. The aesthetic feature of Pelamidis is especially noticeable in rings, which for him represent the jewel par excellence: an extension of the personality worn on the most sensual of the body, according to the designer. And then, here chevalier that completely  surround the little finger and rough stones that lengthen  horizontally over phalanges, to catch attention. Matilde de Bounvilles

Garrard, precious birthday

What could be more reassuring than a cup of tea with a cloud of milk, two pastries, a double-decker bus and Queen Elizabeth? Let’s face it: the good old Great Britain retains its charm and, in part, its tradition, even in jewelry. This is attested by Garrard, who boasts of being “the oldest jewelery in the world”: in fact, was founded in London by George Wickes in 1735. Garrard Garrard has offices in Albemarle Street in Mayfair, London, but the flagship store the company is in New York, and more the shops in Tokyo, Dubai, Moscow and Hong Kong. Garrard was the jeweler of the Crown, in charge of maintenance of the jewels of His Majesty from 1843 to 2007. Of course, it is one of the most popular (and expensive) jewelers, with pieces from the very traditional design. No coincidence, by Garrard was the engagement ring with sapphire donated by Prince William to Kate Middleton, which had belonged to Diana.

The Maison celebrated 280 years in business with valuable pieces, such as the Ventiquattro ring, with gold and diamonds, or a ring with large central sapphire mounted on platinum, or bow double ring. From 2013 the collections are the work of the new head of Garrard designer, Sara Prentice: Tudor Rose, which is traditionally known as the floral heraldic emblem of England, for example, consists of about 30 pieces is inspired by the classical heritage the Maison. “I wanted to offer our customers the opportunity to not only wear these jewels for special occasions, but with the different outfits that are in a closet,” said Prentice when he presented the collection. But, of course, it is not about balances acquired from H & M.

The necklace, in any case, can be mounted in five different ways: for example, as a pendant or brooch with a removable staple. “The idea is for a set that can be worn in different ways,” adds Prentice. “The necklace can be disconnected and adjusted by hand, without the use of tools or a laboratory.” Become a collector’s item that can be passed down for generations, because the tradition is, indeed, an important concept for the old England. Not surprisingly, to homage to the history of the royal family, Garrard in his Tudor Rose collection has introduced two tiaras. The British home proposes, in addition, the Wings collection with a new set of 18-carat gold jewelery and diamonds. Includes pendants, earrings, bracelets, cuff links and rings: launched in 2003, Wings ideally represents the concepts of peace, purity and protection. Margherita Donato

Hermès for a few

The high jewelry by Hermès in three new lines in a limited edition of H B IV collection Continuum.
Continuum is a Latin word that means something that never ends. If the creative vein of Hermès will be inexhaustible we’ll find out. Meanwhile, however, came the fourth collection of fine jewelry, signed by Pierre Hardy, designer most famous for the shoes than the jewelry. The collection H B IV Continuum, however, is original and interesting in many ways. It is divided into several lines (Ombres et Lumiere, Attelage céleste and Feux du ciel), and the impression is that the goal was to satisfy different tastes of customers of several countries of the world. That said, there are some pretty amazing pieces, such as necklace, ring and bracelet with pearls Double Tahitian and Akoya line Ombres et Lumière: a simple design and at the same time complex, rich, but with sobriety despite the size of the jewelry, which are realized in a limited series of eight pieces. Difficult, in short, that happen to meet someone with the same jewel. Alessia Mongrando

Mikimoto did splash

Splash, a interchangeable Mikimoto brooch, presented in Paris.
The king of the pearls, Mikimoto, did Splash in Paris. It is called this, in fact, an interchangeable jewel, which can be used as a brooch, or attach to a necklace: it was presented in the Place Vendôme store. The brooch, in fact, has a shape that is reminiscent as one spray of many drops of water, the one that is formed when throwing something on a liquid surface. Except that the spray in this case consist of 13 Akoya pearls carefully selected and mounted on white gold with a 3.6 carat diamonds. Considered the beads are found in water, therefore, the reference is not at all out of place. The company founder Kokichi Mikimoto, in 1893, on the island of Kashikojima, Japan, invented the technique of pearl farming. Today the Akoya pearls, South Sea or the baroque are the result of that innovation: it is a splash that has lasted for over a century. Margherita Donato

East wind for Castaldi

Castaldi Gioielli, jewelry workshop in Rome, is one of the eight selected companies (over 200 exhibitors) at Sije, Singapore International Jewelry Expo 2016, who participated in the fashion show opening. The Italian brand has brought its creations of 2016 Double color Pearl and Rainbow sapphires, as unique pieces for the event. The participation of Castaldi at Singapore exhibition marks the return to Asia, where it is appreciated from many years for its ability to offer handcrafted jewelry. Castaldi is also one of the official sponsors of Sije 2016. In this role will offer a pendant of Baby girl collection, composed of onyx, diamonds and gold. The maison is present at the Expo with new collections Ghost, Heart and Sunset.
“In all countries which have opened the doors to us, we were able to transmit what for us is the jewel: a world illuminated by precious and pure beauty, created to surprise and excite”, is the comment released by Gianluca Castaldi, the designer of the Maison. “We are now present in Singapore from more than eight years. It is a market that moves us and exalts us at the same time, perhaps because it is giving us the knowledge that our work, made of passion and dedication, is a very interesting and a surprising appreciation even in cultures so different from ours. A reality that still does not cease to inspire us, so that the design of some of our creations was inspired precisely to the deep charm of Singapore, a place full of life and modernity.”

Delfina Delttrez starts again from ABC

About Delfina Delettrez, daughter of Silvia Venturini Fendi and the French jeweler Bernard Delettrez, we talked about it several times and it would be unfair to indicate her as “daughter of.” Since from her debut the designer showed a personality that has resulted in a chorus of praise on the international press. Of course, the origins have favored the way to go on stage, but the rest it’s just for her skill. After the shaped jewelry eyes or lip-shaped brooches, the Italian designer proposes a new collection, called ABC. It is always very simple, and from this point of view does not betray the modern style that has characterized the beginnings. At the same time, however, it seems a bit ‘more classical. Gold, diamonds and pearls are the material on which he worked Delfina. They are jewels for anything too strange, even if the design is unique and you remember. Perhaps, than the other creations of the designers, these are jewels that refer to basic principles, hence the choice of the ABC name. Alessia Mongrando

Pearls from Recarlo to Veronica

Pearls to Veronica from Recarlo. It is not a gift to a flame of the Maison owner of Valenza, but the name of the new collection that revolves around the pale fruit of oysters. Because the choice of the name has fallen right on Veronica is not known, but certainly the jewels that combine diamond with white or gray pearls can be loved by women with names that have initial from A to Z. Diamonds are made in different sizes are used like pieces of a mosaic that turns into flowers, stems or geometric shapes. In a sense, in contrast with the poise solitary pearl, which has a soft form by definition. The collection includes earrings and necklace in two variants: with de Austrialian or Tahitian pearls. The 37 pearls queens of Paris

It seems that an auction of jewelry is a flop if not record a record, maybe for a diamond from the amazing color. Not so. Sales like the one organized by Christie’s in Paris on June 1, where there were lots “normal”, also fine workmanship jewelry, but without that uniqueness that attracts media attention, are interesting to understand the mood of the jewelery market ( therefore also for a hypothetical evaluation of what you have at home) and, at the same time, to observe some beautiful piece of jewelry hitherto stored in some safes. In this case, the auction of Parisian jewelry has reserved the most successful in a necklace, sold for 385,000 €. But the news is not the price, but the fact that it is a simple necklace composed of 37 pearls. Perfect, for charity, but even simple pearls. A solitaire ring with a big 20-carat diamond was sold for 237,900 Euros, while a pair of earrings with diamonds to 5 carats totaled 205.500 Euros. Much appreciated an emerald necklace with gold beads partially glazed: drew 107.100 Euros. Higher than estimated the value attributed to Suzanne Belperron coquillage earrings, which we have already spoken here. They were sold for 85,500 Euros compared to the eve of the estimated 40-60,000. Mikimoto with chocolate

Kokichi Mikimoto was called “the King of pearls”: since 1983 the Japanese origin jewelery brand offers each year its jewels made with the precious spheres daughters of the sea. But also the cocoa now. The brand, in fact, decided to celebrate his flagship store Ion Orchard Singapore with the help of a famous Asian chef, Janice Wong. She, to stay on, presented pearls, but edible and the chocolate content, appropriately dubbed Treasure of the Sea. Surrounded by sugar colored blue, symbolizing sponges and corals, where are the pearl oysters, the sweet reef was appreciated by the guests, as much as the jewels presented for the occasion. Like necklace with pearls composed with 17 pearls South Sea golden, surrounded by ribbons formed by diamonds, knotted in a bow with the middle two marquise-cut stones. This gem comes in the set with a pair of earrings in the same style. Or necklace made by a thin row of pearls of the same size, half-closed by a round buckle paved with diamonds. Jewels that are been loved even if they were not sweet. Giulia Netrese

New petals for Yvone Christa

Yvone Christa New York, a brand that is identified with the two transplanted Swedish designers in the Big Apple, is a botanical mood. In December, presented the collection Ginko (https://gioiellis.com/una-foglia-per-yvone-christa-ny), in January it was the turn of lotus flowers (https://gioiellis.com/fiori -of-lotus-for-Yvone-christa). Now the plant to be transformed into necklaces and earrings is phlox, flower composite. In truth, it seems is not very common in Italian gardens, while it seems that this flower is very popular in America and the rest of Europe. In any case, the choice of jewelry certainly does not depend on the terraces by the spread, but the shape and of their invoice. The collection consists of various accessories: earrings, ear cuffs, bracelets, rings, soutoir made of silver filigree, which is enhanced by the chiaroscuro effect of cubic zirconia in tones ranging from pearl white to green to pink. Here are pictures and prices (with the captions). Lavinia Andorno

Preview: the Golden pearls of Mikimoto

In Baselworld 2016 Mikimoto is a regular guest. The Japanese king of pearls, since 1996 has never missed an edition of the largest Swiss trade fair for watches and jewelery. And often he managed to amaze with his creations: although the Pearl is associated in popular a type of traditional jewelery, Mikimoto was able to transform this fruit of shells and sea in a surprising element. Kokichi Mikimoto this year proposes a now classic combination of gold, diamonds and pearls. In this case, the South Sea pearls. The designer’s motto is “East meets West”. Marriage, as you can see from these first pictures, is sumptuous: necklaces with gold beads a crown of diamonds were assembled as a garland or necklace with a bow and tassels diamond in a style that recalls the traditional Japan. And this is just a preview of what you will see in the Tokyo jeweler booth. Lavinia Andorno

Bulgari overcomes Isabella of Spain

The sample of Christie’s auction in London on December 2 is a suite of sapphires and diamonds signed Bulgari. The suite consists of a necklace with sapphires cut cushion-shaped and brilliant-cut diamond, joined by others marquise and pear cut, with hidden lock. Along with the necklace there are a couple of dangling earrings. The suite, dated 1965, was sold for over $ 1 million, 300.000 more than the initial estimate. In second place in the hit-parade of jewelry is a necklace made up of 44 natural pearls «ownership of a European royal family»: it’s went from the neck of a queen (or princess) to the hands of an unknown buyer for $ 339 thousand. And the gray pearls necklace belonged to Queen Isabella of Spain, which had been presented as the star among the lots for sale? It was not sold: history was not enough to charm buyers at asking price (from 700,000 to 1 million dollars). They were most appreciated jewelery with less curriculum, but more substance. Like the emerald necklace and rock crystal of Cartier, sold for 320 thousand dollars. Or the pair of earrings mid fifties, always signed Cartier, with rubies and diamonds cut shuttles, forming a flower arrangement: sold for $ 167000. As well as another couple, always with rubies and sapphires, shaped chandelier, sold for $ 157000. At the end of story: to find a buyer, you don’t need just a real pedigree, but the shape and the value of the jewel. Federico Graglia
