Gold / Italy is back in Arezzo, a fair dedicated to gold and jewelery professionals ♦

Gold / Italy returns to Arezzo Fiere Congressi – International Business Forum, an event organized by Italian Exhibition Group (26-28 October). The appointment is dedicated to the jewelery business, with semi-finished products, stones and components, as well as a vast cash & carry area, a tech section dedicated to technology and a focus on packaging. In short, an appointment for those working in jewelery.

The program includes about 700 appointments set with the digital business matching platform managed by Ieg: it allows the selection of the most interesting buyers with whom to get in touch and organize their agenda in advance, based on profiling. The approximately 200 gold companies present are a representative selection of the best production of the Italian districts. Buyers are expected from the main export markets: the United States (with a delegation of 35 major wholesalers and distribution chains), the Middle East, South East Asia and Eastern Europe.

The Gold Days are also back: for the whole weekend, from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, in collaboration with Confcommercio Arezzo, the shops and boutiques of the historic center offer special offers to the operators of the fair in possession of the Gold Card.
On Saturday’s inaugural evening, the Renaissance setting of Palazzo della Fraternita dei Laici (Piazza Grande) hosts the welcome cocktail sponsored by Unoaerre (entry by invitation), on Sunday at 6.30pm, the program includes a guided tour of the City of Gold – Experience Tour, by Confguide Confcommercio Arezzo.

Do you have jewelry that causes skin allergy or irritation? Here’s how to solve your problem and avoid a nickel allergy ♦

Some argue that allergies are on the rise. As for jewels, unfortunately, they have always been a problem. The reason is simple: there are metals that cause allergic reactions when in contact with the skin. But there are also less dangerous metals for allergy sufferers, such as gold or steel.

This is why allergy sufferers choose gold jewelry. The yellow metal, in fact, is hypoallergenic, that is it rarely causes reactions in contact with the skin. But then, why does it also happen who wears a gold jewel to suffer from redness or irritation on the part of the body in contact with earrings, bracelets or necklaces?

Irritation caused by jewellery: this is an allergic reaction called contact dermatitis and is caused when pure gold is not used. It is a problem that, according to some calculations, affects 10% of women. This metal, in its natural state (24 carats) is too soft and deforms easily. For this reason, jewelers have linked it together with other metals, such as nickel. In this way the gold jewel becomes more resistant. In Europe, however, for over 20 years now the EU has issued a directive, which has become law in the adhering countries, which drastically reduces the use of nickel in jewellery. Nickel, however, continues to be present in jewelry made before the new rules. In Italy, for example, the use of nickel must not only be within the limits of the law, but also indicated on the label.

However, nickel isn’t the only metal alloyed in jewelry that can cause an allergy. In fact, it must be remembered that all 18, 14 or 9 carat gold jewels are alloyed with other metals. 18-karat gold, for example, means that out of 10 grams of metal, only 7.5 are pure gold, while at 14-karat this drops to around 50%.

How to avoid allergies. How to avoid nickel allergy? The first answer is obvious: if you buy a vintage jewel, ask the jeweler if the metal alloy of the jewel contains nickel.

If you already have jewelry at home that causes skin irritation or allergies, a simple trick is to use nail polish: brushed on the jewelry will avoid contact of the metal with the skin. You have to use the transparent one, of course. This system doesn’t work well with chain necklaces, but it can solve the problem with a ring or bracelet. Just cover the inside of the jewel, the one in contact with the skin, with the enamel. This prevents the nickel from coming into contact with the skin of the hands or wrist. Naturally it is necessary to verify over time that the enamel is not consumed with the use of the jewel.

Other metals. Another, more expensive way to avoid allergies is to choose platinum or titanium jewelry, two hypoallergenic metals. Copper, recommended by many, is certainly not a real alternative to gold: not only does it not have the same luster (even if it costs much less), but when in contact with sweat, it can ruin and dye the skin. Even silver, as long as it is sterling (92.5% pure) is often tolerated by those who have a nickel allergy, but must be constantly cleaned to prevent blackening.

Carbon fiber, titanium, nanoceramics, volcanic lava and even the rediscovery of aluminum: the use of new generation technology and materials in the world of jewelry is increasingly common. The reasons are different. A metal like titanium, for example, is durable and very light. Not only: the titanium can also take on different colors without having to glaze or plate it with some electroplating. On the other hand, it is very difficult to work: that’s why it is not easy to find a titanium jewel.

Titanium, in any case, is one of the materials that in recent years has become a symbol of research and innovation in jewelry. Masters like Wallace Chan, Suzanne Syz, or Maison like Giovanni Ferraris, or jewelery companies like Mattia Cielo from Vicenza, who after experimenting with titanium wires to enhance the flexibility of its products, have also focused on carbon. Carbon also is used by the Austrian Maison Adler, which strongly believes in this ash gray material and has created an entire collection, called Eclipse, made up of microscopic woven carbon fibers, with a silky and slightly silver patina. The Swiss of Bogh-Art, on the other hand, use ultra-thin “sewn” titanium wires, that is compacted, with fiber optic beams at a precise temperature and pressure. The obtained layer is then cut to give shape to the wings and the petals of butterflies, dragonflies and flowers that make up rings and earrings. Continue the tradition by breaking the tradition. It seems impossible, but not to Nuovi Gioielli, a goldsmith company from Vicenza founded in 1985, which has managed to overcome the contradiction. Nuovi Gioielli, in fact, makes rings, bracelets and earrings according to the classic traditional method, but also 3D printed. It is a real innovation, because 3D printing is usually used to obtain wax molds, which are used to obtain the casings used for gold fusion.

Nuovi Gioielli, instead, with the 3D printer manages to directly produce gold jewelry, adding small metal particles. In this way, thanks to special printers built for this purpose, new shapes and designs are obtained, with a special use of volumes. It is a step into the future of jewelry. Gold Italy returns to Arezzo in October, a fair dedicated to professional jewelry operators ♦ ︎

It will be golden autumn in Arezzo (Tuscany). From October 26th to 28th, in fact, Gold Italy is scheduled, an autumn event in which the best Made in Italy goldsmith meets international buyers. The event, organized by Italian Exhibition Group, is now in its seventh edition and is dedicated to a professional audience: it will again occupy the Arezzo Fiere Congressi pavilions with the formula of the international business workshop.

On display is a selection of brands and companies from all Italian goldsmith districts, namely Arezzo, Vicenza, Valenza, Torre del Greco, Milan: they will present the national goldsmith production, appreciated for its extraordinary design and innovative creativity, silverware, semi-finished products, stones and components for buyers from the main outlet markets of the sector, from the United States to the Middle East, from Eastern Europe to Hong Kong and Asia.

Gold Italy takes place in three areas: the Cash & Carry, aimed primarily at retailers, who can choose and buy a wide variety of products on the market, the section dedicated to Packaging, and the Tech area, which hosts the technologies for processing.
The event offers a business opportunity thanks to the ability to carry out the exchange between supply and demand. Buyers and exhibitors, in fact, can virtually share their agenda and organize targeted meetings thanks to the innovative digital Business Matching platform developed by Ieg exclusively for the first time in the gold sector during the last edition.

One of Tamara Comolli’s favorite shapes, along with that of the acorn, is the drop. Preferably of seawater, because the German designer loves waves and beaches. In any case, the Signature collection, launched years ago is inspired by the shape of the drop. Stretched, smooth or covered with diamonds, alone or in the company of other drops, it makes the appearance of the jewels of this collection almost liquid.

In 2019 three new creations were added to the Signature collection: Wave pendant earrings, available in three versions of gold, white, yellow and pink and in as many models. The first, small model, light, consists of two elements, a smaller drop at the lobe and a larger one as a pendant.

In the medium-sized earrings the sequence of the three gold drops is animated by the asymmetry of the diamond decoration (about 0.50 carats). The pavé drops are positioned at different heights. Finally, long version earrings aim for a greater effect. All three are added, of course, to the other pieces in the collection.

Who runs keeps himself young (if he doesn’t exaggerate). In any case, it makes movement. So, don’t be surprised if Gucci’s GG Running collection renews itself at quick time. For 2019, in fact, the Florentine Maison, that is part of the French group Kering, presented new pieces made in yellow gold or 18 karat white gold and diamonds.

At the center of the jewels there is always the GG logo, inspired by an archival drawing from the 1970s.

The logo is highlighted both in the new hoop earrings and in the new proposal of rings with two crossed design bands, all embellished with small diamonds. Two pairs of yellow gold hoop earrings feature the GG logo, while a pair of white gold hoop earrings is entirely set with diamonds. The three very thin rings have a diamond pattern.
