Ornella Iannuzzi is an Italian-born designer, but grew up in the mountains of Grenoble, with a watchmaker father. From years, she is based in London, where she created esclusive jewels, unique pieces from the archaic form and modern, where the stones come back to be stones in the form in which they was extracted from the ground.

Her jewels are intended for an audience of fans, but to the nespoke jewellery, she has added collections pret a porter, to a wider audience. Ornella is in jewelery business from only a few years, focusing on a small production of commissioned pieces, made of 18-carat gold, with precious stones like Ethiopian opal, tourmaline and garnet. His first collection for the public is called Les Corallines and silver and gold vermeil: was launched in 2013. Although she is using rough stones, the Ornella work is difficult: to realize a ring also employs 180 hours of work. Among the novelties seen at Baselworld there was also a collection of jewels that stood out clearly from the others. It’s called Diamonds in Red and is a daring creation of Etho Maria, Greek Maison of international level (also has several locations around the world). As the name indicates, in this collection diamonds marry a decisive color: red. The stones have pear cuts, marquise, oval and round cut. Certainly it is a line of jewelry that will appeal to those who are attentive to fashion, to trends, to show something that is not forgotten. Not only is the combination of white gold glazed in red and the sparkle of diamonds surprising, but also the design of earrings and rings that make up the collection seek, and find, a very outlined identity. It is no coincidence that Etho Maria was been recently crowned the Diamond Classic award, the Centurion Design Awards 2018 and the Editor’s Choice award at the Centurion Design Awards 2017 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Morganite is a stone that symbolizes “divine love”. Moreover, it is a stone that according to the romantic hearts promote the affections and the spasms of the heart. With a less romantically view, however, the stone is a variety of beryl, and has a delicate pink color, more or less intense. The name morganite, in any case, does not refer to the fairy Morgana, but was conferred by the American mineralogist George Frederick Kunz in honor of the American banker active at the turn of the twentieth century John Pierpont Morgan, stone collector (and founder of one of the largest banks still in business, JP Morgan).
And here is an exceptional use of this refined stone: earrings with over 100 carats of morganite. They were presented at Baselworld by Jacob & Co, Maison of New York who often presents particularly precious pieces of jewelry. The earrings feature a total of four morganite stones. The largest weighs 93.88 carats, while the slightly smaller weighs 6.35 carats. Not only that: 98 pear-shaped diamonds, weighing a total of 8.61 carats, adorn the earrings, which are further accented with over 360 white pavé diamonds. The round shape is the perfect geometry, which has no beginning and no end. And it is also the most used form in jewelry, starting from the ring. But not only. Even the earrings have one of the most recurrent forms in the ring. As in the case of the The Circle collection by Lebole Gioielli. These are flat capsules printed on tinplate, the earrings are mounted in gold-plated brass and natural stones. Asymmetry, as in the tradition of the Tuscan brand, in this case is provided by the different images imprinted in the capsule. A curiosity: the flat capsule used is actually the metal disk that is located in the upper part of the cage that holds the caps of bottles of sparkling wine or champagne before being closed. But if you go to Switzerland, in Geneva, in the flagship store of de Grisogono, you will be more fortunate: they will bring you the jewels of the Millefoglie collection. It gives a sweet feeling, but it is sugar-free, don’t put you weight, and it certainly makes your appearance look better than what comes with a cake-based diet. The Millefoglie collection by de Grisogono is made up of jewels created by juxtaposing pink or white gold plates, to which are added brilliant cut diamonds, even of a certain carat and sometimes irregularly set. The layers of gold are parallel but at the same time undulating. This oscillatory pattern of the design creates a movement that increases the charm of the jewel and makes it more interesting. Furthermore, it makes the pieces wearable despite their grandeur. The collection consists of a pair of earrings, a ring and a double-loop bracelet, which literally wraps around the wrist with its irregular waves.

Hold on tight: Salvini changes. Or, better, it does not change its style, but introduces a new line that has the ambition to last over time. To propose, in short, one of those jewels that in five or ten years will still have a fragrance of novelty. And it’s the Sunny line which renews the classic image of the Italian brand, very tied to white gold and diamonds, to the shape of the solitaire or the light point.
So here is Sunny. As the name indicates, the idea is that of brightness, but in a warm key, thanks to the gold in the three colors yellow, white or pink, the colors of the sun in the three phases of the day. The collection is played around the shape of the band, which comes in ring, earrings or pendant adjustable with up and down mechanism, but surrounded by a soft, wavy shape that surrounds the two sides of the jewel. And there is not only gold, but in some versions of the collection, there are diamonds in full pavé. In addition, a light should be lit on a particular of this collection: shot peening at the center of the gold band. The good designer of Salvini has thought of this innovative solution, which is not a sanding or even a satin finish. The processing consists, instead, in hammering a shiny part of gold with micro-spheres. In this way you get something that looks like satin finish, but has a more sparkling appearance. It is a particularity that must be emphasized. Prices: a gold ring starts at 950 euros, to go up to 2900 euros for the one with full pavé diamonds.

From painters to sweets. Licia Mattioli’s passion is not only for great art, to which she has dedicated numerous collections in the past years. Now also ticks for sweets, which are transformed into jewelry and, in particular, in rings, necklaces and chandelier earrings. The new collection of the Maison of Turin is called, in fact, Candy.
Candies more for the liveliness of the appearance than for the shape, which has the well-defined style of the brand. The rings recall, in fact, those of the Reve_r collection, but this time with the stones arranged in a traditional way, like small cabochons to punctuate the surface of the jewel. In short, no longer the sharp back, the so-called culet of the stone, but the upper part, rounded and soft. A flower that has not yet faded after 20 years. On the contrary, it promises to be admired for a long time. Vhernier, a jewelery brand that stands out for its avant-garde design, celebrates Calla’s two decades of history. The jewelry line crosses the threshold of 20 years without having changed its DNA, its tapered and clean shape, which at the same time has evolved with a work of continuous renewal. Since two decades ago, when the founder of the brand, Angela Camurati, has been inspired by the flower of Calla, reproduced in its essential lines, the line has known different stages.

The right answer is the second: the bee has successfully turned into a capsule collection, Sisterhood. The bees are buzzing and, after all, they are part of that miniature universe, that of insects, which is so exciting for the Mexican designer based in Los Angeles. Queen Bee includes bees wearing crowns to represent the theme of power, but also a sisterhood, because the bees are very supportive of each other. Not only that: the bees have, beyond their decorative effect, a primacy in productivity, in wisdom, in spirituality, humility, modesty, and so on.
The jewels of Daniela Villegas dedicated to the bees are in 18-carat yellow gold, in some cases with a drop of multicolored jasper, reminiscent of the classic yellow and black stripes that characterize the body of insects. From Matera to Syracuse, from Syracuse to Etna, the volcano that overlooks Catania, in Sicily. Antonini is a historic Maison in Milan that, like many Italians (and others) in the North, loves Mediterranean atmospheres with strong colors. Naturally, given that Antonini is famous for its modern and often surprising design, the South is filtered through the lenses of the style that characterizes the brand’s collections.
In this case, the first aspect that you can be seen in front of the Etna collection are the surfaces of the jewels. Often concave, as in the rings, the surfaces are studded with small irregularities, so studied that they seem casual. It is an effect that simulates a stony ground, as in nature. But these little obstacles guard, in reality, tiny diamonds that increase the “sparkle” of the jewel. In some models the diamonds are transformed into a complete pavé on the whole surface. Lili Claspe x Ritani is a capsule collection of jewels. It also marks the debut of an American brand, Ritani, that specializes in diamond jewelery for engagement and marriage. It is a collection of fine jewelry, with prices ranging between 600 and 1300 dollars, in yellow gold and small diamonds. It has its own originality, thanks to the contribution of Stephanie Tchamanian, designer and founder of Lili Claspe, who is instead a fashion bijoux brand. The collection born from the marriage between Ritani and Lili Claspe is composed of 23 models in 14k yellow gold, with colorless diamonds.
