Casato extends Daphne

/

Casato adds more pieces to his Daphne collection: velvet rings with gold trim and diamonds ♦

Daphne is the name of one of the historic lines of Casato, a Maison of jewelry founded 15 years ago in Rome on the initiative of Federico Gauttieri. The collection includes single and double rings, or the bracelet-ring shape, enriched with tassels. The materials are rose gold in combination with blue topaz, amethyst, prasiolite and smoky quartz. The rings have gems wrapped by the base of gold. Or white gold matched with colored gems. What’s the news? It is easy to say: Casato has added new pieces to the collection. Bracelets, chokers and velvet rings with 18k rose gold trim and white diamonds. Presented at Baselworld 2018, the new additions are now available to the public. The style remained the same: a white gold embroidery, with curves and spirals that seem to come directly from the oriental tales. Diamonds, brilliant cut, are set on the entire metal path. The Petals by Roberto Coin

Three jewels for a mini collection by Roberto Coin: flowers ready to show their petals ♦ ︎

Petals that protrude from a flower, but also bridges that connect two souls. In this romantic perspective fits the Petals mini collection by Roberto Coin. They are just three pieces, with an essential design that is often used by the Vicenza jeweler, but softened by a sentimental inspiration in which the flower becomes, when the petals are counted, a sort of love roulette. Only the last petal will know if the desired love is also matched.
The Petals collection by Roberto Coin consists simply of a ring and two pairs of earrings. The bouquet of colored corollas is made of malachite, jade and turquoise. Diamonds and gold recall the image of the petals wet by rain, portrayed just when the sun shines again. More romantic than that … Lavinia Andorno

Meghan Markle, boomerang effect for Birks

The other side of the Meghan Markle effect on the Canadian Birks ♦ ︎

Meghan Markle is in the spotlight. The people love the casual way of moving, the smile, some small transgression to the rigid label that surrounds the royal family. And, consequently, it also likes what she wears, including jewelry. We have already told about the Sussex Duchess’s preference for a Canadian jewelery brand, Birks (we talked about it here). When this predilection for the “Canadian Tiffany” was discovered, the jewels of that brand worn by Meghan Markle snapped up.

La principessa della Sussex, assieme al orecchini Muse, con citrini e diamanti

The earrings of Birks that Prince Harry’s wife wore at the time of the official engagement announcement were sold out in a few minutes
Do you think the Birks is satisfied? Yes and no. In an interview with Maclean’s, a Canadian magazine, the marketing manager and vice president of Birks, Eva Hartling, explained that the Meghan Markle effect is a double-edged sword for the jewelry company. “On the one hand is a textbook example of what should be the work of organic pr: a consumer in love with the brand (Meghan Markle) becomes the best known person on the planet. Obviously we do not complain. But all the image related to Birks right now has to do with the Duchess wearing our pieces. We are launching new collections for the fall, but nobody cares if the duchess does not decide to buy a piece and wear it”. In short, Birks suffers from dependence on the Duchess of Sussex: from his choices will depend on the success or a boomerang effect for the Canadian Maison. A truly royal power. Cosimo Muzzano

Dior, high-jewelry three time

A new collection of high jewelry by the Maison: lace, gold and stones with Dior Dior Dior ♦ ︎

After the gardens of Versailles and the baroque decorations of the great residence of the French kings, here is another noble inspiration from Victoire de Castellane, who leads Dior’s fine jewelry with great expertise. The new collection, in fact, is inspired by the art of lace. After all, it was a type of fabric widely used by those who lived in the court of Versailles. The high jewelry collection includes 65 pieces. And, to testify that the maximum of the novelty is what has already happened, Victoire de Castellane has used Christian Dior’s archival images, choosing between embroidery and arabesques to make necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings rich in emeralds, blue sapphires and rose, rubies, tanzanites, diamonds, etc.
Presented in the Paris haute couture week, the collection had an unusual stage: the Museum of Modern Art, where it was visible for three days by the public, together with a exhibition of Dior’s jewelery production, which celebrated its 20th anniversary: in fact, it was created in 1998. In short, from the aristocratic past to the democratic present.
The decision to draw inspiration from embroideries and lace, however, is also linked to the other soul of Dior, that of fashion. In fact, the effect of the lace recreated with gold threads is present throughout the collection and recalls Christian Dior’s atelier. And the collection underlines this “diorism”: it is not by chance that it has been entitled Dior, Dior, Dior. In short, Dior three times.
Large cocktail rings with colored stones of appropriate size, bracelets with shimmering stones, bracelets where flowers appear among the embroideries and integrate with the light gold embroidery. Jewels worthy of the Dior tradition and the most noble haute couture. Matilde de Bounville

The bees of Delfina Delettrez

The bees of Delfina Delettrez fly in the form of rings, necklace and earrings. And they don’t sting ♦ ︎

After the beetles, here are the bees. Delfine Delettrez in 2017 had designed an collection dedicated to insects to exorcise her entomophobia, that is fear of spiders, cockroaches and the like. But, perhaps, it does not have as much fear of honey producers. And here, then, the collection called with humour To Bee or not to Bee, paraphrasing the famous monologue of Hamlet, where the verb to be is replaced by the word bee. The jewels-bees are made with 18-carat yellow gold, black diamonds and yellow sapphires, in some cases with the addition of pearls and citrines. In short, it is perhaps the only way to make friends with bees without the risk of being stung.
It is another stage of the now vast production of Delfina Delettrez, the fourth generation of the Fendi family, who presented her first jewelery collection in October 2007 in Colette, Paris. Since 2010 she has also been the youngest designer with a permanent collection at the Musée des Arts Decoratif of the Louvre. Cosimo Muzzano

Signature collection by Pandora for summer 2018: images and prices ♦ ︎

When a brand becomes famous, it can allow itself to transform its logo into an icon, that is, in a graphic element that has value in itself. In short, it becomes a decoration, a pictogram. This is the case of Pandora, which with the Signature line emphasizes the choice of its brand: the writing is, in fact, clearly visible in jewels, composed of classic modular bracelets with removable clasps, rings, earrings and necklaces with reversible pendants.
The jewels are made with the three metals that have long been used by Pandora: Sterling Silver, Pandora Rose and Pandora Shine, that is Sterling Silver plated with 18k gold. Prices: a simple silver bracelet (without charms) costs 59 euros, with a sliding door it goes up to 149 euros, a yellow gold plated ring costs 59 euros, while a necklace with a 179 euros pendant. Surround Fernando Jorge

The Surround collection of the Brazilian designer, based in London, Fernando Jorge ♦ ︎

At the Couture Awards 2018 Fernando Jorge replicated last year’s award in the Diamonds Above 20K dollars category. Winning twice in a row is not a very common fact. But it must be admitted that the jury that voted for a pair of earrings in the new Surround collection by the Brazilian designer’s, was not wrong. In just a few years, since 2012, the young jewelry designer graduated from Central Saint Martins has become an international star. His Brazilian imagination has merged with British precision to churn out one collection after another, always with a special style, his own.
A goal that many designers reach after decades of application (and many never reach). And that’s why Fernando Jorge has won two such coveted awards. The Surround collection, in addition to an explosion of gold and diamonds, also uses another unusual element: the tagua nut, a Brazilian plant with a pure and very hard wood. Jade is also a little out of the ordinary, used for a pair of earrings along with tourmaline and diamonds. Who knows if the next year in Las Vegas will be able to amaze again. Giulia Netrese

The monkeys of Bibi van der Velden

The monkeys by Bibi van der Velden: luxury and irony walk together ♦ ︎

Bibi van der Velden has become famous for jewelry fans who love innovation also for the use of unusual materials such as mammoth tusks or scarab wings. But also for a subtle irony that surrounds a very innovative design. These two qualities, irony and design, are found in the Monkey collection. In fact, the collection is presented as follows: “Monkeys are among the most entertaining and intelligent animals on Earth, representing fun and flexibility. We never get enough of these fascinating species and their beloved bananas and we could not think of a better inspiration for our new jewelry designs.” In short, monkeys and bananas are really cheerful elements.
But you should not underestimate the more technical aspect: the bananas are made by working lemon quartz, the palm leaves are of green tsavorite, while the monkeys are in 18-carat rose gold and silver, with brown and white diamonds. Prices: almost 3000 euros for the simplest earrings, over 6000 for pendants with bananas up to over 11000 euros for the ring. In any case, luxury and fun can be together: it’s a good idea. The five Mu Secrets

Jewelry made in Valenza of a brand born from the initiative of five women: The Secrets of Mu ♦

Place five women (Diletta Teloni, the founder, and Federica Benzi, Ombretta Mangolini, Laura Casè, Lella Dassie) on a lost continent: the result is I Segreti di Mu (The Mu Secrets), brand that was born and raised on the fertile ground of Valenza, country of the Italian’s fine jewelry. Clarify, though, that Mu, land located in the Pacific Ocean, was an area which had as its northern boundary as the Hawaiian Islands and the southern border an imaginary line drawn between Easter Island and Fiji. Continent mythologized, but invisible: it’s disappeared. From this fanciful idea was born the brand I Segreti di Mu, Secrets, supported by a company like Smith Luxury Goods, which specializes in jewelry manufacturing for third parties. The secret, in fact, are revealed through the production of jewels in which the silhouette of the droplet becomes the fundamental element. rounded shapes, water, and with a hand-crafted (as shown in the video on this page) are transformed into rings, necklaces and earrings. Gold, diamonds and secrets: a mix that has undoubtedly a charm. Giulia Netrese

Colette’s Galaxia

The stars in gold, enamel and diamonds by Colette, a Parisian designer who works among Los Angeles and Mexico City ♦ ︎

Colette Steckel has the stars on her side. In the sense that the stars are one of the elements that distinguishes his production of jewelry. His latest collection, Galaxia Enamel, is no exception: eight-pointed stars in gold are colored with enamel in many shades. The diamonds added to the stars make more precious the jewels (price: from 2000 to 6000 dollars on average). In some cases the small stars form micro colored galaxies, very cheerful.
In fact, Colette Steckel of skies has seen many. Born in Paris (she likes to spell out in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district), the designer has also lived in the Mexico. Now she lives and works in Los Angeles, but also has a boutique at Park Plaza, Mexico City. His first collection is from 1995, after his training at Gia. Her stars have already been worn by other stars like Madonna, Rihanna, Adriana Lima, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba. Alessia Mongrando

The queen’s pearls to Meghan

Queen Elizabeth gives a pair of pearl earrings to Meghan Markle ♦ ︎

The jewels of Meghan Markle, wife of Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex, continue to intrigue. In her first official release with Queen Elizabeth, for the inauguration of a bridge over the Mersey River in Widnes, Cheshire, Meghan wore a pair of earrings that has not escaped the attention of Buckingham Palace fans.
Someone has immediately attributed the earrings in gold, small diamonds and pearls, to Birks, the Canadian Maison favored by Harry’s wife (we talked about it here). In reality, the earrings bear witness to the Queen’s strong sympathy for Meghan, also recorded by the smiles during the event: it is, in fact, a gift that comes directly from the royal collection. Indeed, according to some it is the same earrings worn by the queen on the occasion of the wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton. In short, it is not about whatever earrings, but about a jewel tied to important occasions. What time, at 92, the queen has yielded to Meghan. Rudy Serra

Spicy Yvone Christa

/

Chilies in glassy material from the new collection of Yvone Christa ♦ ︎

An aquatic chili. Does this seem like a contradiction? Yet the Chili Peppers collection by Yvone Christa, a New York brand created by the two Swedish designers, is made using aqua lemuria (in italian language acqua means water). We bet that many do not know what aqua lemuria is. It is a very pale green-blue glassy material, similar to obsidian. Aqua lemuria is produced with volcanic ash in the mountainous region of Sumatra, Indonesia and is associated, for those who want to believe, with benefits for the body and mind. It is good to know, however, that it is not a stone, but a kind of glass.
In the case of the Chili Peppers collection, the elements of aqua lemuria are cut with the shape of the spicy vegetable to become earrings or pendants mounted on silver filigree or leather laces. Price: between 200 and 250 euros. Lavinia Andorno

Thomas Sabo, silver autumn

//

Silver and fantasy mix for Thomas Sabo’s autumn-winter 2018 collection ♦ ︎

When it’s hot, you think of the coolness. When it is summer one thinks of winter. So it should not be surprising if the big jewelry brands prepare themselves months in advance at the change of season. The Sterling Silver Fall-Winter 2018 collection by Thomas Sabo is ready and follows the philosophy mismatch, just a stylistic mix of rings, necklaces and medallions to wear overlapping. The silver elements are intended for a young audience and sometimes remind a piercing.
To align the different pendants can be combined with a mix of silver chains. Among the highlights of the collection there are, however, also necklaces and bracelets inspired by past eras and made by machine in Germany according to an ancient technique of centuries. A somewhat fantasy vein is represented, for example, by the pendant in the shape of a unicorn, by Victorian-inspired jewels with moon and stars. Do not miss the combination of silver with diamonds. “From today, mixing the most different styles is a diktat, and it’s about a new way to wear jewels” is the comment by Susanne Kölbi, Creative Director of Thomas Sabo. The new autumn-winter collection is on sale starting from July 2018. Lavinia Andorno

Rivière’s savoir faire

/

Other jewels from the Savoie Faire collection by Rivière, which presented new pieces with diamonds and sapphires at Couture Show ♦ ︎

Savoir Faire is a French expression that indicates the ability to know how to move, compare and speak in every circumstance. Especially when it comes to relationships between two people. In short, savoir faire is essential to meet the partner’s desire. The Roman Maison Rivière has dedicated to this way of saying a rather large collection of jewels. As happens when the choice meets the taste of the public, other pieces are added to the collection over time. In 2018, in particular, were presented a pair of earrings with gold fringe, a necklace in the same style, and three bracelets that are added to the many variations of the collection: all the pieces use gold, small diamonds to follow the perimeter of the jewels and pearls of different colors.
The combination between the pastel color of pearls and gold is a constant by Rivière. Which, however, does not stop there. At the Couture Show in Las Vegas, for example, the Maison presented new jewelry with the classic combination of diamonds and blue sapphires, jewels that perhaps have a greater impact on the American public. This is also a demonstration of savoir faire. Alessia Mongrando

The jewels of the Borbone-Parma dynasty

The jewels of the Bourbon-Parma dynasty and Marie Antoinette Queen of France at auction with Sotheby’s ♦ ︎

From the court of Versailles (and subsequent guillotine) to Sotheby’s auction: it is the long journey of the jewels that belonged to Marie Antoinette (necklaces and earrings), the Queen of France executed by Robespierre and partners with her husband, King Louis XVI, during the French Revolution. The jewels will be auctioned on 12 November in Geneva at Sotheby’s, in a sale called Royal Jewels from the Bourbon-Parma Family. A dynasty which, as they explain to Sotheby’s, has been central to the history of Europe thanks to the interweaving of family ties, from France to Austria, from Spain to Italy.
In total, a hundred batches will be put up for sale, “all coming from the same family, the Borbone-Parma,” Daniela Mascetti, vice president for Sotheby’s High Jewelery in Europe, explained in a preview. “It is one of the most important collections of jewels ever appeared on the market”. It is good to meditate on the words of Daniela Mascetti. First, because it is a world authority on the subject. Secondly, because authority combines authority. Third, because Daniela Mascetti is able to temper the passion with the necessary scrupulosity, especially in cases like these, in which to establish estimates and values is very difficult. “How important is the origin of a jewel compared to its invoice? Difficult to establish it. But it weighs a lot, “explains Sotheby’s expert at gioiellis.com. “Just think of a case like that of the jewels that belonged to Wallis Simpson in the eighties. An estimate of around 5 million at auction has reached 30 million”.
In short, the Sotheby’s auction of 12 November promises sparks. Also because the jewels of noble origin are many and for some Sotheby’s is still at work. In fact, before presenting them at auction, the intricate family path of jewels is the object, as in the detective films, of a detective work by the team of Daniela Mascetti. We are sure, therefore, that the pendant of diamonds with a natural pearl of exceptional dimensions (26 mm x 18 mm), estimated at a starting price of 1-2 million dollars, is placed on the décolleté of Marie Antoinette, as well as the necklace of 119 natural pearls. And that the pair of earrings estimated at 30,000-50,000 dollars was first transported to Belgium along with other jewels to steal from the revolutionaries, then passed to the cousin of Marie Antoinette, the emperor of Austria, who then handed them over to the sister of Queen of France, Maria Teresa, imprisoned and released three years after the Republican government.
Maria Teresa, called Madame Royale, then left part of her jewelry to her niece Luisa di Francia, Duchess of Parma, up to Roberto I, the last duke of Parma. For example, it was intended for Luisa di Francia (1819-1864), nephew of Charles X, king of France, and mother of Robert I, an extraordinary set consisting of 95 diamonds, five of which belonged to Marie Antoinette. Also in the same collection are pieces such as the pin in the shape of a bow in diamonds and Burmese ruby of 6.89 carats and a ring with fancy orange-pink diamond (unusual for the time) given by his father to the Archduchess Maria Anna d ‘ Austria on the occasion of the birth of the child. The sale will also include a diamond tiara offered by Emperor Franz Joseph (1830-1916) to his niece, Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria (1882-1940) for her marriage in 1902 with Elia di Borbone, Duke of Parma ( 1880-1959), a brooch in yellow gold received by the princess Maria Pia di Borbone-Due Sicilie on the occasion of the marriage of Roberto I, and a pair of earrings “en girandole” in diamonds belonging to the duke of Parma. Difficult to remember an auction with more blue blood.

Receiving a Las Vegas Couture award for two years in a row is not for everyone. Silvia Furmanovich, a designer of Italian origin but now permanently transferred to Sao Paulo, Brazil, has succeeded. She started creating jewelry in 1997, but she founded her brand in 2003. The jewels are produced by artisans in São Paulo. She was born into a family of goldsmiths: father and grandfather, she says, have also worked for the Vatican. So she came into contact with gold as a child. Eclecticism is the creed, his philosophy and his passion. She likes to amaze, surprise, shuffle the cards. She also went to the Amazon rainforest to look for rare Brazilian woods on which to invent inlays: she identified Muirapiranga red, Tatajuba yellow, Roxinho viola and Carvalho Azul. The result was been a collection of oversized bracelets and maxi earrings with striking decorations and the addition of precious stones, set with 18-carat gold. In any case, its jewels are based on traditional metal and precious stones, often those extracted in Brazil. Her are often unique pieces. Also because the elements that make up the jewels are sometimes rare objects and gems that she finds during his travels. And Moda Operandi has dedicated her a trunk show to her. Alessia Mongrando

Damiani pink with D.Icon

An extra pink ring in Damiani’s D.Icon collection. Here are pictures and prices ♦ ︎

Damiani expands the D.Icon family, the collection of the Piedmontese brand that uses the marriage between gold and ceramics, to which are added small diamonds. The novelty is represented by the D.Icon, with candy pink color ring, a delicate and very feminine nuance. The whole collection plays on softness, with very rounded shapes and rather soft tones. There is another reason for using such a design: the shape is designed to also evoke the Damiani letter D.
The range of the D.Icon collection includes necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings, and is one of the most popular lines of the Maison of Valenza. Over the years, the D.Icon jewelery line has expanded from the classic black and white to the most trendy shades such as cappuccino and sugar paper. And now, here is the pink color. Prices: rings 2090 euros, earrings 1490 euros, necklaces 1540 (heart pendant), or 2490 (ring pendant). Lavinia Andorno

Birks, petals for Meghan

/

Birks, the favorite jewelry brand from Meghan Markle, launches the new Pétale collection ♦ ︎
Birks is a Canadian jewelry company that has a long tradition, started four centuries ago in Sheffield, England. The current brand was born however in 1879 when Henry Birks opened a jewelry boutique in the heart of Montreal. In North America it is now a small empire. Well known in Canada and the US, however, in Europe it became famous because it is the favorite brand of Meghan Markle, at least until before the marriage with Prince Harry (now who knows).
In any case, Birks did not allow herself to be impressed by the fame that was added thanks to the Duchess of Sussex and launched a new collection, Birks Pétale inspired by the petals of a flower. A simple shape, which translates into rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings in gold and pavé diamonds (but there is also a cheaper version in silver). Prices are low: it starts at less than $ 200 for silver jewelry, and goes up to 1500 for the two biggest diamond earrings. Lavinia Andorno

Officina Bernardi in Blue

The waters of Venice are reflected in the Aurora Blue collection by Officina Bernardi ♦ ︎
Officina Bernardi is a Venetian jewelry brand with affordable price born in 2007 that has been relaunched and that knows a good success in the United States. The Veneto Region is identified abroad mainly with Venice. And for this Aurora Blue, the last collection of Officina Bernardi, which is part of a goldsmith’s company, the Chrysos of Borso del Grappa (Treviso), is inspired by the city on the water. The collection consists of a few pieces (two necklaces, a bracelet, a ring, a pair of earrings) made of rhodium-plated sterling silver and light blue mother-of-pearl, reminiscent of the sea that bathes Venice, at least when the sun is shining blue sky. But mother-of-pearl, among other things, has been for centuries a material that is part of the goldsmith’s tradition. Prices range between 100 and 300 euros approximately. Margherita Donato
