The jewels that speak with Kendra Pariseault

Creative jewels, designer jewels, jewelry that reminds of voices. They are those of Kendra Pariseault ♦ ︎

You can find runners not only in the morning in city parks or engaged in a marathon. There are also runners who prefer to engage in other speed competitions. For example, with a trunkshow on Moda Operandi even before having a fully functioning website. This milestone (it was May 2019) is reach by the runner-designer Kendra Pariseault, the new rising star of US design. His work, which has just begun, has already been promoted with flying colors. All that remains is to follow his career.

Kendra Pariseault grew up in Rhode Island, attended Skidmore College where she specialized in Gender Studies and art and then jewelry at the Rhode Island School of Design. Later, he worked for Calvin Klein and David Yurman, where he discovered the world of colored stones. She is also co-founder and creative director of the low-priced jewelry line Kendra Phillip. Now, instead, with his brand Kendra Pariseault Jewelry, he aims higher, at more expensive and refined jewels. Without forgetting what his interests are outside of jewelry: fashion, femininity and feminism. And some esoteric aspects: he claims to have recorded the voice of a deceased on his cell phone and, from this experience, he has drawn some jewels that represent sound waves. Pariseault also creates personalized bracelets with the sound wave of a word or a sound at the request of a customer. His jewels cost between $ 5,000 and $ 50,000.

Kathryn Elyse’s second life

Her favorite phrase is from Claude Monet: “Color is my obsession, joy and torment for the whole day”, said the king of the Impressionists. A statement that is shared by Kathryn Elyse, a jewelry designer based in Seattle, United States. She describes herself as attracted to colored gems, their cut or their unique imperfections. The designer uses 14 or 18 carat recycled gold, combining colored stones with small diamonds. Her collections are a bridge between natural beauty and modernism. Her jewels, as well as in the Seattle boutique, are also sold by large online marketplaces, such as Moda Operandi.

And to say that after graduation you started working in the personal banking sector, and during this time you also faced the shock of an armed robbery. An experience that marked her choices: it is better to cultivate one’s passion, jewels. The designer then restarted her second life and enrolled at the prestigious Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco. And after learning the secrets of the trade she started her own business. And with good success.

The colors of Texas with M.Spalten

Texas: wide-brimmed hats, boundless spaces, oil wells. And the colored gems of M. Spalten, a small Maison in San Antonio, a city in south-central Texas and the seventh most populous metropolis in the United States. Melissa Spalten lived in Texas, where she still makes her jewelry, although she often resides in California. She discovered her passion for the arts as a child: sculptures, paintings and then the beaded jewels created from clay with her hands accompanied her childhood. Before jumping headlong into jewelry, she attended the Fashion Institute or Design and, later, the Gemological Institute of America, which gave her the scientific basis for the choice of stones.

The designer loves very colorful stones: opals, sapphires, tourmalines, emeralds, peridot are the kind of material she uses as colors on the painter’s palette, supported by silver and 18 and 14 carat gold. Her jewels are also sold on some large online platforms, such as Moda Operandi.

Skyscrapers to Deborah Pagani’s ears

Deborah Pagani designs hair accessories, such as the pins used to group the hair in braids or wrap it behind the neck. But she also focuses on modern, long, thin, fast jewels. Luxurious jewels, in gold and diamonds, with earrings that recall the skyscrapers of New York, where the designer lives. An idea consistent with the passion of Deborah Pagani, a New Yorker with Italian origins, for Art Dèco. And, if you think about it, in the American city there are many buildings and skyscrapers with an architecture inspired by that style.

But the passion for hair jewelry also has a history: Deborah Pagani began her career as a styling hair in the late 1990s, working alongside masters like John Sahag, Oribe Canales and Rita Hazan. The jewelry came after friends admired the pieces she had created for herself. The designer debuted her own collection of déco-rock jewelry in Paris in 2007, and it was an immediate success.

The magic of Arunashi

Arunashi, the tradition of India, western design and colors of California (and a trunk show on Moda Operandi) ♦

He is an Indian of America. But true Indian, born in Jaipur in a family of jewelers for eight generations, though now working in California. Arunashi designs jewelery for modern maharaja, very little classics. He is, in fact, an Indian who does not follow too much of the traditions: his Maison at Berverly Hills, for example, is named Arunashi. The name comes from the synthesis between his name, Arun Bohra, and that of his wife, Ashita Shah.

Orecchini con tanzanite, zaffiri rosa, diamanti, oro annerito
Orecchini con tanzanite, zaffiri rosa, diamanti, oro annerito

Being grown up in a family that works in precious stones at least since 1841 (the first officially registered date) was of course an advantage: when he was a child he began playing with gems. The first diamonds sold them when he was ten, he tells now. Then, he moved to Tokyo, always in the business of trading gemstones. After ten years in Japan, he moved to America with his wife, first in New York and then in Los Angeles. The curious aspect is that, among all these trips, part of the processing of its jewels also takes place between Italy and Switzerland.
But the most interesting aspect is the personal style of the Indo-American jeweler. She loves the unmatched earrings, upside-down stones, unusual materials such as titanium, carbon fiber, and Corian. Besides, of course, colored stones with a strong personality and are used with equally strong creativity.

The new life of Pamela Love

/

It’s been a few years since Red Luxury, a jewelry and watch company that designs, manufactures and distributes its brands around the world, bought Pamela Love. The New York brand thus joined the Parisian Maison Reminiscence, also purchased by Red Luxury, which in the meantime has opened offices in New York, Geneva, Dubai and Hong Kong. Pamela Love for summer 2022 proposed the Ad Infinitum collection, in 14-karat gold-plated brass in some cases with the addition of stones such as lapis lazuli, amazonite, but also synthetic coral. Prices remain anchored downwards.

As a true New Yorker, Pamela Love has been able to be creative and enterprising. She started making jewelry in her Brooklyn apartment in 2006. And then he expanded the business to become an established brand. Like so many of her fellow designers (who knows why) she describes herself as “strongly influenced by astronomy, astrology, alchemy”, but also in “modern urban mysticism”, whatever that means. But it doesn’t matter: the jewels she proposes, in 14 carat gold, or simply in plated brass or silver, are successful.

It was a Eera for a new brand

/

It is only few years old, but has already landed on platforms such as Moda Operandi or MyTheresa: the Eéra brand of jewelry is more than ever projected into the future. First, however, it is necessary to open a parenthesis on the chosen name: according to the most accredited version, the name Eéra alludes to the passage of time, with the two letters indicating the past and the future. It is difficult (deliberately?), however, to assign an authentic interpretation, because the rapid development of the jewelry brand, at this moment, does not think the creation of a website that clarifies doubts: Eéra’s presence on the net is limited to Instagram.

The Eéra brand was founded in 2019 by Chiara Capitani (degree in Fashion’s Communication at the IED in Rome) and Romy Blanga (Istituto Marangoni and then brand manager of Chiara Ferragni). Both with a link in the world of fashion. The idea of the first jewelry collection, however, came from the shape of a carabiner observed during a trip to Tokyo. From that essential object derive earrings, bracelets and necklaces in gold, silver painted with shock colors and diamonds. Jewels also worn by Hailey Bieber and Dua Lipa.

A new Feeling for Nikos Koulis

//

x

Two years ago the most celebrated Greek jewelry designer, Nikos Koulis, presented his refined Feelings collection. It was a success but, due to the covid that arrived a few months later, the opportunities for a trip to Athens, where Nikos Koulis has his own boutique, have become rare. This is why, now, the jeweler’s work is proposed in a trunk show on Moda Operandi. It should be added, however, that the pieces on sale are renewed compared to those presented at the debut. The idea of the knot always remains present, an element that for a seafaring people like the Greek one is an integral part of culture.

But in the new jewels of the Feelings collection the art deco architectures that characterize the work of the Athenian Maison return. In addition, the classic black enamel appears, which makes the diamonds used for rings, earrings and necklaces sparkle even more. However, the use of the gold snake chain, of the tubogas genus, which replaces the lines used to anchor ships, remains the same.

Gold and beads for Carolina Bucci

You can safely tell Carolina Bucci that she behaves like a child. She won’t be offended. Indeed, she will consider it a compliment. Just look at the jewels that he proposed in a trunk show on Moda Operandi: necklaces and bracelets that seem composed with the beads that children use to create their first jewels. They seem. But in reality Carolina Bucci’s jewels are composed of semi-precious, natural, and lurex stones: gold that becomes a thin and soft knit.

Collana in oro 18 carati, lurex, magnesite, agata di limone, corniola, diaspro rosso, occhio di tigre, avventurina pesca, diaspro rosa, rodonite, crisoprasio, giada, ematite, cristallo di rocca, angelite, turchese, lapislazzuli, ametista, pietra blu blu, avventurina blu, amazonite, malachite, unakite, giada gialla e coccodrillo

The capsule collection, which was presented for the first time in 2018, is called Two Initial Forte Beads Necklace and includes 32 Florentine gold finishes. The word Forte refers to Forte Dei Marmi, a small seaside town in Tuscany, frequented by the good Florentine and Milanese bourgeoisie. And probably also from little Carolina.

It is no coincidence that the first collection of Carolina Bucci (almost 20 years ago) was Lucky, an interpretation of the bracelets exchanged with friends as a child. And to confirm that the spirit presented by the designer is that of childhood, the jewelry line also includes a kit to compose the sequence of colored pearls that best suits your taste or dress to wear.

Carolina Bucci, born in Florence to a family of jewelers (since 1885), lives between London and New York City. And it is in the Florentine tradition that the typical fabric gold workmanship adopted by the designer was born. A selection of her designs can be found in the permanent jewelry collection of the Palazzo Pitti museum in Florence. In 2007 she founded her London flagship store.

Axenoff, from Russia with love

/

Jewelery inspired by the Russian tradition of Axenoff. For those who love the romantic atmosphere of War and Peace ♦ ︎

The tradition of Russian culture and costume is part of the history of the arts. From the books of Lev Tolstoy to the paintings by Ivan Glazunov, the Russian soul was portrayed by writers and painters. Now also by jewelery. Axenoff Gioielli is a Russian brand, also sold to the West on sites like Moda Operandi, inspired by the Russian royal family and popular traditions. The goal is to create a synthesis between past and present. The designer Petr Aksenov, with a father which was icon painter, has been in touch with the most traditional artistic world since childhood.

Axenoff’s jewels are therefore made of silver and stones such as topaz, onyx, lapis lazy moonstone, turquoise, agate and garnet. But also with more expensive materials such as platinum, gold, diamonds, sapphires and emeralds. But, above all, they take on motives like painted flowers, icons and colors that are the distinctive sign of Russian folk art. With a style that would be loved by heroines of great novels by Aleksandr Sergeyev Puskin or Fedor Dostoyevsky. Perfect for those who feel a bit Anna Karenina. Lavinia Andorno

Martin Katz’s jewels: expensive celebrity hobbies also are sold online ♦ ︎

It is not the first time, and it will not be the last, that the big jewelry, the one with figures from at least five zeros, is sold online. Martin Katz, jeweler of Berverly Hills and stars like Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Gigi Hadid and Zoe Kravitz, is in fact not new to these experiments. And now a series of her jewels from 30,000 to 70,000 dollars are offered on the Net-a-Porter platform, after a show on Moda Operandi. At the bottom is not a great surprise, but it is indicative that now even the jewelers who boast a rich and famous customers use online sales and, above all, there are those who are willing to pay high figures with a click, perhaps from the smartphone.

Wendy Yue’s flowers

//

Wendy Yue’s flower-shaped jewels have enchanted Moda Operandi ♦ ︎

Those who have never been to Hong Kong, but know Wendy Yue’s artisan jewelry, can imagine that the Asian city is a species of Earthly Paradise. Flowers and leaves grow lush, the colors shine in the clear air. Hong Kong, instead, has another kind of charm, but not the one related to flora. The designer, however, manages to imagine a private garden, with plants not exactly similar to those found in nature and, perhaps for this reason, even more fascinating.
Imaginative cocktail rings, bracelets and earrings are made of precious and colored stones that form a non-replicable world. This is also why his unique pieces of jewelry are prey to collectors who do not let them escape. As evidenced by the recent trunk show on Moda Operandi, which saw Wendy Yue’s jewelry go sold out. But of course, like all the flowers, the jewels of the Chinese designer will also grow back. Cosimo Muzzano

The eclectic world of Silvia Furmanovich

New earrings of the fanciful Silvia Furmanovich, between Brazilian gems and rare woods ♦

Receiving a Las Vegas Couture award for two years in a row is not for everyone. Silvia Furmanovich, a designer of Italian origin but now permanently transferred to Sao Paulo, Brazil, has succeeded. She started creating jewelry in 1997, but she founded her brand in 2003. The jewels are produced by artisans in São Paulo. She was born into a family of goldsmiths: father and grandfather, she says, have also worked for the Vatican. So she came into contact with gold as a child. Eclecticism is the creed, his philosophy and his passion. She likes to amaze, surprise, shuffle the cards. She also went to the Amazon rainforest to look for rare Brazilian woods on which to invent inlays: she identified Muirapiranga red, Tatajuba yellow, Roxinho viola and Carvalho Azul. The result was been a collection of oversized bracelets and maxi earrings with striking decorations and the addition of precious stones, set with 18-carat gold. In any case, its jewels are based on traditional metal and precious stones, often those extracted in Brazil. Her are often unique pieces. Also because the elements that make up the jewels are sometimes rare objects and gems that she finds during his travels. And Moda Operandi has dedicated her a trunk show to her. Alessia Mongrando

Reza, in fact, exposes her pieces of excellent bill only in her own boutique or in very rare, selected opportunities such as Tefaf. Now, however, he arrives from Moda Operandi, from 25 October to 25 November. For this occasion Reza has decided to present 23 pieces (can be seen by appointment) in showroom and another 36 pieces on the online store. They are pieces of high jewelery, with precious materials and consequent prices. For example, Arlequin’s earrings with emeralds and diamonds cost $ 259,000. The earrings with turquoise and diamonds are $ 59,800. In short, even the jewelery adapts to the times and can be bought online. Nothing surprising, after all. Lavinia Andorno

New horizons for Wendy Yue

Wendy Yue, the novelties of a jewelery artist are now (almost) for all ♦
To get an idea of what kind is the size of Wendy Yue is, just read his Facebook profile. “Wendy Yue pieces are one-of-a-kind, meticulously crafted, and in limited edition, carried by the finest boutiques across Europe and the United States.” Or: “Not for the faint of heart, Yue’s jewellery is collected by jewelry mavens who prize artistry and creativity above all else.” They are not too hyperbole for a designer who, in fact, is primarily an artist who uses stones and metals for elaborate sculptures that are, among other things, precious. But it is the whole composition that is placed first.

As in the bracelet that Wendy Yue has decided to bring to the Las Vegas Couture, which sums up his virtuous ability to combine colors and shapes, oriental wealth and taste for western luxury. It is not accidental she lived in Vienna important years for her training. Fantastic animals and flowers, the elusive opal tones, myths and new horizons are her hunting ground. But now Wendy Yue also proposes jewels for women who love big pieces, not only to collectors leaving the most precious pieces in a bank’s armored room. Jewelry like those Wendy decided to show at Couture and are already available on the Moda Operandi portal. Giulia Netrese

Hot summer for Carla Amorim

A hot summer for the Brazilian brand Carla Amorim. Kelly Amorim, co-owner along with her sister, Carla, of luxury jewelry with headquarters in Sao Paulo, participated in Tuscany to a charity treasure hunt, the Art Treasure Hunt, between Siena and Florence. At the same time, the Maison debuted with the insignia of the exclusive store Moda Operandi. Kelly was in Tuscany among wine cellars with wine barrels and contemporary works of art: the hunt it also served to put up for auction, in favor of a center for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, a earrings with emeralds and diamonds for 13 carat designed by Carla Amorim, and donated for the occasion. On the online store, however, the brand follows the philosophy that connects the architecture to jewelry, with the use of four shades of gold combined with peziose stones like diamonds, but also to the moonstone, morganite, turquoise and pearls. They are jewels with a substantial presence, but at the same time they can also be worn during the day. Prices: from 1,800 to 4900 dollars for a pair of gold earrings and diamonds. Lavinia Andorno
