Back to selling the Taj Mahal

Will be back on sale one of the most famous (and disputed) jewel: the Taj Mahal, belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. It is a jewel with diamond heart-shaped that was donated by Richard Burton to 40th birthday of American actress. After the disappearance of the muse of Hollywood, the Taj Mahal diamond was sold at auction in December 2011 for $ 8.8 million. A price determined also by the history of the gem that was once it supposed owned by a Mughal emperor in India. But this has become a bone of contention: a few months after the auction by Christie’s, the buyer has asked for his money back, claiming that the jewel is actually not from the Mughal period as advertised. A version that Christie’s don’t agree. After four years, however, now the two sides came to an agreement: the jewelry will be for sell. The news is a scoop of the British Daily Mail. According to British newspaper, the auction house hopes to recover the 8.8 million who have been sold the jewel.
The name of the diamond, the Taj Mahal, comes from the attribution of original ownership in Shah Jahan, the king of the dynasty moghul who commissioned the monument Taj Mahal in Agra, India. When he gave to Elizabeth Taylor the jewel, in 1972, Burton had joked: “I would have liked to buy the Taj Mahal, but it would cost too much to transport.” The diamond pendant in the shape of heart is mounted on a chain of Cartier, together with a set of rubies and diamonds. Note that at first auction the estimate was very more low from final price: 300,000 and 500,000 dollars. Lavinia Andorno
