With Alviero Martini 1C in New York

The most famous street in New York is Fifth Avenue. It is the great luxury shopping street, where the boutique windows sparkle and where, of course, the prices are adequate to the standard of contemporary luxury. There is, however, a possibility to wear a Fifth Avenue jewel without spending too much. The miracle happens if you wear the bijoux collection that has the same name, that is Fifth Avenue, signed Alviero Martini First Class. The collection is part of a series of fashion bijoux lines dedicated to famous locations around the world. It is not strange: years ago the Italian brand became famous for its bags with geographical maps. And a few months ago it has expanded its offer to the world of bijoux.

Big volume bijoux with Thot

It produces about 3,000 bijoux a year: large, colorful, whimsical and sold all over the world. It is the activity of Thot Gioielli, a company from Chiuduno, a town near Bergamo (Italy). In a dozen years the founder, Susanna Lissignoli, has brought the brand to a solid position in the designer costume jewelery market. The designer bought old brass filigrees in Paris and brought them to Tuscany, near Arezzo, for a process that was then completed in Milan, where the setting with glass beads, rhinestones, resins or brass spheres took place. Not only that: she also uses vintage bijoux that are reworked and become almost unique pieces, often of large dimensions.

The autobiography describes the entrepreneur as the daughter of a collector of antique jewels, who from an early age cultivated an attraction for stones and metals, a passion for travel, art and fashion studies. Another passion is for history, which also inspires the creation of bijoux. And the brand name? It is inspired by Thot, an Egyptian divinity who transforms lead into gold and is depicted with a round headdress that metaphorically represents the ring, the precious object, but at the same time the circularity of the ring represents faith. Thot, according to the designer, metaphorically wants to unite several religions, the East with the West.

Boccadamo and Zoe’s leaves

The name Zoe is ancient: it derives from the Greek word which means the essence of life. Today, in addition to being a proper name often used in the Anglo-Saxon world, it also indicates a collection by Bottega Boccadamo, an Italian bijoux brand. The collection is presented for autumn / winter 2022 renewed, but always inspired by nature. For example, such as the use of hand-crafted silver leaves around crystal spheres. The collection also uses crystals with the color of aquamarine on burnished silver frames.

The Zoe collection also includes a yellow gold plated version. In this case the crystals used are matching and defined topaz color. A third version of the Zoe bijoux is instead made of rose gold plated silver. In this case, the crystals used have the color of amethyst. Finally, the collection also includes silver jewelry and natural pearls.

The evolution of Joanna Achkar

Joanna Achkar is part of that small group of women who studied economics, she started working in the world of finance and then returned to her first love: jewelry. Of Lebanese origin, but resident in Paris, Joanna Achkar started with a degree in Business Administration at the Institut Superieur de Gestion in the French capital in 2014, to then work at Byblos Bank in Beirut and later for Aim Social Media Marketing. In 2017 she was her turning point: she founded the jewelry brand that bears her name.

But she was not an initiative born out of nothing: she first studied Jewelery Design, Diamond Grading and Gemmology in Antwerp, at HRD (Hope Raad voor Diamant), the leading European authority in the certification of diamonds. Joanna Achkar’s jewels are made of 18 karat gold and diamonds, together with other precious stones, such as rubies, but also (more rarely) with synthetic stones. She also added a touch of color with the use of nail polish. The rings are also designed to be worn together, stacked, with a touch of fantasy that never becomes excessive.

Leonardo on the hand with De Re

Rings and bracelets inspired by the plots painted by Leonardo da Vinci in Milan. He proposes them De Re ♦ ︎

There are those who are inspired by flowers, those who design usual lucky charms, those who propose jewelery in the shape of a heart or a star. Then, there is a craft jewelery in Udine (Italy) that follows a different idea: bijoux inspired by art and science. The bijoux by Monica De Re, in fact, are reworkings of masterpieces of the past, handmade with the American processing technique that replicates the work of jewelery, using ductile materials that allow the stones to be easy set.

Anello dorato con pietre Swarovski
Anello dorato con pietre Swarovski

For example, for the 500 years since the death of Leonardo da Vinci, the designer was inspired by the genius of the Renaissance. In particular, the plant decorations found in the Sala delle Asse of the Sforza Castle in Milan, painted by Leonardo during his stay in the Lombard city between 1497 and 1499. The collection consists of bracelets and rings that recreate the effect of bonds and knots painted in this Leonardo masterpiece.

The bijoux are made of metal alloy, both in the version with antiqued gold finish and in the one in antiqued palladium, with embedding of Swarovski stones. The ring is available in two versions, high and low. Also this is worked in metallic fusion technically rendered with flat bas-relief, where knots, leaves and blackberries are visible which, in the hand setting of the stones are rubies. The ring is also developed on three floors compressed into a minimal millimeter scale realized in the antique gold variant and siam stones or antique palladium and light sapphire stones. The low ring has a smaller size and is found in the antique gold and antique palladium versions.

In addition to Leonardo da Vinci, the designer drew inspiration from the traditions of Venice, with a series of jewels in which the icon of the Moor appears. As in the bracelet with four circles in brass bathed in 24 carat gold, with a dark brown turban with crystals. Worn on the ear by men of the sea, during the maritime republic of Venice, the icon was a good luck charm. And still like it. Or to inspire Monica De Re can also be the enigmatic drawings in the Peruvian desert of Nazca, proposed in galvanic ruthenium, antiqued palladium and gold.

Sharra Pagano, life is a theater

//

Sharra Pagano, over half a century of one of the historical Italian jewelery brands and still capable of innovating ♦

Fashion & Jewelry. Or, more correctly, Fashion & Bijoux: the Sharra Pagano brand is associated with the roaring years of Italian fashion, when labels such as Armani, Moschino, Versace were imposed. In 1969 Lino Raggio and Gianfranco Signori launched this brand that still plays with the theatricality of the jewel composed without using precious materials, but precious ideas. With resins, for example, and more rarely with amethysts, topazes, tourmalines, citrine quartz, aventurine, rock crystals, obsidian, garnets, pearls.

Bracciale collezione Fireworks con cristalli, vetro e resina
Bracciale collezione Fireworks con cristalli, vetro e resina

But in reality most of the fashion bijoux that have become part of history are glass, plastic and rhinestones. In addition to having collaborated (and still collaborate) with some of the great fashion brands and designers, such as Walter Albini, Enrico Coveri and Francesco Moschino, Sharra Pagano has played a role in the world of theater and lyrical music. Famous fans were the soprano Renata Tebaldi and the historic rival Maria Callas. The brand has always had a recognizable style: jewels with accentuated, showy, almost theatrical volumes, with a curious marriage between Baroque and Art Deco. Large necklaces, tiaras, chandelier earrings: they seem inspired by a life in the front row. They will not please those who want to go unnoticed, but those bijoux are loved from those who aspire to a life as a protagonist.

The company also produces jewelry for third parties: the turnover of licenses weighs 55% and that of the Sharra Pagano brand 45%. Today the brand is owned by Giuseppe Fredella, president of the Italian Fashion Jewelery Association. But the production is still entirely carried out in Italy, in the Milan laboratory, by expert craftsmen who, in some cases, are the children of those who started producing 50 years ago.

Brosway for the summer

/

Be in tune with fashion, but also with the season. Two objectives that Brosway has achieved with its jewels inspired by summer, the sea, the heat and, at the same time, with the use of a style clearly in line with the trend. That is, in this specific case, with the use of colored, lively, immediately visible enamel, which is added to natural steel or with a gold-colored finish. The necklaces, bracelets, rings or earrings proposed for the summer by the Bros Manifatture brand also, in some cases, use pendants that recall the marine climate, such as the shapes of shells, starfish or fish.

Beside the enamel, in fuchsia or turquoise shades, Brosway uses crystals in nuances, which the brand calls roses or bohemian water, that is bright pink and blue. The necklaces and bracelets are double stranded, while the earrings are sold individually. The price, as always, is super affordable, as expected for the classic beach bijoux.

Precious simplicity for Calvin Klein

//

Calvin Richard Klein turns 80 in 2022 (best wishes), but his signature remains fresh. The American designer, who launched the company that became simply Calvin Klein in 1968, like other designers in addition to clothing has also given his name to a range of perfumes, watches, and jewelry. It is about fashion jewelry, a genre that counts on several fans, who focus more on the logo of the jewel than on the preciousness of the material, often in simple metal with PVD or gold plating.

Orecchini della linea Minimal Circular
Orecchini della linea Minimal Circular

For his jewels Calvin Klein prefers simplicity, as in the bracelets or rings of the Minimal Circular line, with rippled surfaces. On the other hand, the design of the Minimal Linear line is more accentuated, which uses a geometry that is a mix between a circular shape and a straight line. The Playful Repetition line, on the other hand, uses the contrast between worked and smooth surfaces. The jewels are in stainless steel in natural color, or pink or yellow, in some cases with the addition of cubic zirconia.

Golden dreams with Stroili

//

The best thing that can happen to someone who goes to bed, if we exclude love activities, is to have sweet or golden dreams. Expression that indicates a complete state of relaxation, plus a more enjoyable movie than those offered by Netflix or television programs. The expression Golden Dream also gave its name to one of the collections of Stroili, an Italian brand of jewelry at an affordable price, which for the summer of 2022 presents a large number of jewels. The name is not accidental, in addition to traditionally shaped rings and earrings, there are others that are inspired by dreamcatchers, the traditional Native American dream catchers.

Collana Golden Dream

Dreamcatchers are made up of circles to which feathers are tied: they were (or are) used as an amulet to protect children’s dreams. And some of the jewels in the Golden Dream Collection have a similar shape, with hinted feathers, and are made of gold-plated metal and colored cubic zirconia stones. Other jewels, on the other hand, follow a classic line, such as eternity rings, always with white or colored cubic zirconia.

The charm of the fifties with Pin-Up bijoux

//

Unexplored frontiers of bijou. That is: how to invent something new, but which costs little, very little. This is the story of Pin-Up, an Italian bijoux brand founded by Claudia De Rosa, which has a story to tell.

«I was born in Albissola, a seaside village in the province of Savona (Liguria, Italy). After studying Pharmacy, at the age of 24 I left for Ireland to gain work experience and to learn English: I stayed 12 and became the mother of my first two children: Julia, who is now 19. years old, and Joshua, 15 years old. From Ireland I landed in the States and then finally returned to Italy. For four years I have lived in Tuscany, in Terranuova Bracciolini, in the province of Arezzo, but closer to Florence, where I became Giorgia’s mother for the third time eight months ago and I discovered a great passion for racing bicycles, a passion that I share. with my partner. It is during our long bike rides that I have the most creative ideas. After more than 23 years as a medical trainer and marketing and commercial manager, organizing scientific events in Italy and abroad, a little over a year ago I decided to change my life and dedicate myself to designing and creating jewelry ».

Claudia De Rosa
Claudia De Rosa

The birth of Pin-Up is also associated with the pandemic period, Claudia always says: “During the pregnancy of my third daughter and short-time smart working, a global pandemic situation that has drastically slowed down all activities related to the sector tourism and events, I began to reflect on my professional career, my family life, interests and passions. I felt the need to go back to feeling alive and express my creativity in a free but, forty year old, also aware way. So, almost for fun and boredom, due to the social restrictions imposed by the covid, I started to create brooches, earrings and necklaces, rings, bracelets, using aluminum chains and wires. So last summer 2021 the brand, Pin-Up Gioielli was officially born for the inspiration of the rockabilly-pin up style. A passion for accessories that I have had since I can remember: I worked in very masculine and rigorous fields, often the outfits had to be monochromatic and dark, with few frills and very linear. Over time I have developed my own style which is a consequence of my whimsical, colorful personality and a sober rocker. Before creating my bijoux and accessories myself, I was always looking for jewels that created that extravagant focus and that made the same sober sheath dress appear different every time ».

Anello Clap Clap con calamita e cristalli Swarovski

The choice of the name, Pin-Up and the reference to the rockabilly style suggests the 1950s. Right now that the trend is dominated by rap and hi-pop. «I have never followed fashions and trends, I have always had my own style, classic, but with an extravagant touch and a reference to dandy elegance. I was born in the seventies, watching musicals like Grease, TV series like Happy Days. My dad is a big fan of Elvis and from an early age he gave me a great curiosity and passion for the United States. Rockabilly is a musical genre that developed in the early 1950s. It is a fusion of bluegrass, country, boogie woogie and jazz with a gospel influence, an irresistible combination of rhythm and blues and country. This style reflects me a lot: I have a sweet rock soul, I don’t particularly like symbols like crosses and skulls, I’m a romantic rocker. To crosses I prefer hearts, to skulls the sun and décolleté shoes with very high heels: these are the pendants that I most often use in my creations. I consider the chains a positive symbol of strength, determination and solid union rather than constriction, suffocating bond or worse still deprivation of freedom. For this reason I have chosen to represent the rockabilly style in bijoux ».
Orecchini Clap Clap con cristalli Swarovski
Orecchini Clap Clap con cristalli Swarovski

As well as the idea of the pin-ups: “That’s right. The pin ups come directly from the 1950s and in 2022 we are still talking about them. They were sensual and feminine women but at the same time provocative and intriguing. The pin-up style is synonymous with good taste, liveliness and color, with ironic sensuality but also with familiarity (and this explains why a brand like Coca-Cola has used this type of images since the beginning to enter people’s homes) . The pin ups were a symbol of courage and lightness for the soldiers of the Second World War. The pin-up is timeless, always current, always lively, intriguing but sober and elegant: this is my reference of female beauty ».

The Adam & Stoffel transparencies

Jewelery and frosted glass: the sustainable rings by Adam & Stoffel ♦
Let’s face it: sustainability is fashionable, but not always the claimed respect for the environment then corresponds to what is put into practice. In the heart of Germany, in Stipshausen, halfway between Frankfurt and Luxembourg, there are, however, two designer-craftsmen who have taken literally the need to provide for sustainable jewelry from a point of view of nature. The two green designers are Claudia Adam and Jörg Stoffel. Their small Maison, Adam & Stoffel, time ago was present at the most important trade fair of jewelry, Baseworld. Still, it’s a paradox, because they offer bottle bottoms. No, not false stones, fake gems. They make a flag of their glass bottles rings. The story is unusual and worth telling it.

Claudia Adam was a medical assistant, but in 1991 he began to study gemology and jewelry design. Together with the goldsmith husband Jörg Stoffel, in 1998 they began to offer their bijoux. The style is very Nordic, unfussy, almost austere. Alongside the usual materials, silver or gold and precious stones, more or less, the couple has thus started to offer rings made from special bottles neck. The glass is frosted, with soft shapes like the one found on sanded beaches by the sea. Although the sea, in Stipshausen, there isn’t.

The bright silver of Spadarella

When a jewel is copied, it is damage to the company that sells the originals, but it is also a sign of success. How it happened to the brand of Roberto Spadarella from Romagna, who managed to create a small empire of silver jewelry, with 23 direct sales points in Italy, as well as an efficient e-commerce service. A story born in 1983, with the opening of the first goldsmith’s shop in Riccione, a town on the Adriatic Sea.

In the 1990s, after learning the goldsmith’s secrets, Spadarella decided to conquer space in silver and stone jewelery, which has become the hallmark of the Maison. The company calls Le Roi Soleil – Spadarella Gioielli and in 2006 the founder received the award for best designer at the Ecat de Mode in Paris. A recognition that serves to make Spadarella also reach other European markets, such as Spain, Portugal, France, Greece, England, but also in America and the Middle East. The catalog of silver jewels is very vast and embraces different styles: from the Gothic-punk one, to the geometric, floral, animal … The prices are low: for a pair of earrings the maximum price is 100 euros, but in average is about half.

Nina tra le Nuvole, from design to bijoux

Elena Rosso, designer of the Nina tra le Nuvole brand, is a graphic designer who works in the advertising field. But her passion for bijoux led her, in 2012, to design her bijoux collections. Since then she has never stopped: she designs and creates rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings in her Turin studio. The pieces are handcrafted: they are all handmade and with a great variety of styles, as you can see from the images we publish, which summarize the different creative lines. The materials used are resins, aluminum, brass, crystals, galvanized bronze and Swarovski rhinestones. Bronze or brass are worked and galvanized with different precious metals, such as yellow gold, pink gold, silver and ruthenium.

In this way the bijoux rise a step above the simple jewelry. In addition to Turin, Nina tra le Nuvole’s “nijoux” can be found in various stores around Italy. Nina, that is Elena, is keen to emphasize that all products are nickel-free, allergies averted for sensitive skin. Karry Berrebi’s vintage double life

It is not common for a creator spirit to lead a double life. But that’s what happens to Karine Berrebi. Before, for 16 years, she hunted for bijoux and jewelry in Paris with the Karry O ’boutique in rue Saint Pere, in the Latin quarter, a name inspired by Jackie O (nassis), former wife of US President Jack Kennedy and an icon of the sixties and seventies. Then, in the last ten years, she has decided to select high-end pieces created by her famous Maison in her new gallery, Karry Berrebi, in rue de Lille, in the French capital. A double life for Karine Berrebi, in short, which takes place at the same time in the present and in the past.

Her predilection for vintage does not neglect any famous brand, from Bulgari to Chopard or Piaget, from Grima to David Webb, but also couture pieces by Yves Saint Laurent, Jacques Fath, Givenchy. A very selective research reserved for high quality jewels that are appreciated by collectors.

Karine Berrebi became a jewelry hunter after attending the prestigious Berçot college in Paris. But before becoming a collector, she started designing jewels for herself and her friends, in a mix of novelties and period pieces. The common thread: the imagination to create a mix that makes it a novelty that was designed a few decades earlier.

How to recognize the true Trifari jewelry

Trifari jewelry is collected. But you know to recognize them? Here’s how.

Are you attracted by the charm of vintage, from jewelry that have a flavor of old times, of ornaments capable of taking a look of wonder? Here’s to you Trifari, America more Italy, mixed in the last century. The jewelry company was founded in 1910 by Gustavo Trifari, son of Neapolitan immigrants in the United States (there were other times). Trifari defined an era in American jewelery with necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets that have been worn by the First Lady Mamie Eisenhower, but also by Madonna. It is also merit of a French designer, Alfred Philippe, who was the creative mind of the House from 1930 until 1968. Although it is a costume jewelry brand, the production has also used techniques born in the jewelry, such as using the “invisible set» for the stones, that was invented by Van Cleef and Arpels.

Among the most sought after pieces of Trifari there were the crowns. The pins Trifari Crown, from the late thirties to the fifties were among the most popular jewelry. There’s also a 1953 series that celebrates the ascension to the throne of Elizabeth II. Also very popular jewelry in the shape of animals or flowers: someone collects them. Realized for years simply not precious metal, costume jewelery during World War have gone to silver, because of the shortage of raw material intended for use in war. The Trifari family continued to manage Maison until 1975. Then the company was bought and sold several times until, in 2000, the Monet group has moved production abroad and marked the decline of the brand.

The success of Trifari bijoux also derives from the VIP clientele, true influencers of the time, who advertised the brand by wearing the jewels. In the 1930s many Trifari bijoux were created for the Broadway musicals, at their peak at the time, and for many showgirls. And Trifari jewels were also worn by the first lady, the wife of President Eisenhower, Mary Geneva known as Mamie, who chose these jewels on the occasion of her husband’s inauguration in the White House in 1950. And nowadays, Madonna in the film Evita has worn Trifari jewelry.

The bees of Amen

/

A collection of bijoux dedicated to bees, such as the one proposed for spring 2022 by Amen, has illustrious ancestors. The image of bees living in communities has been used from antiquity to modern times, by Aristotle and Plato, Virgil and Seneca, Erasmus and Shakespeare, by Tolstoy and even by philosophers and politicians such as Bernard Mandeville and Karl Marx, who indicated yellow and black insects as a model for human society. But, probably, the necklaces and earrings proposed by the Italian brand Amen have a much simpler goal: to remember the arrival of spring.

The homage to bees, which return to populate the meadows that are stained with the colors of the flowers, is made through necklaces and earrings with enamel and zircons and proposed in rhodium, rose and gold versions. Amen is the brand created by Giovanni Licastro in 2012, which was characterized by the use of words related to the Christian faith in jewelry, and then broadened the field of action to affordable jewelry.

Helena Thulin’s special flowers

/

Being green is not only fashionable, but also a necessity to save the world from climate change. Also for this reason, flowers and plants are a symbol of a sensitivity to the environment, which the young designer Helena Thulin has decided to interpret in an original way. Her jewelry, in silver and Swarovski crystals, is largely inspired by flowers and plants with a naturalistic style. Earrings and necklaces are inspired by the different varieties of botanical species and each jewel has the name of a flower.

In short, they recall the originals in nature, or they transform the plant geometries into new strange plants. Helena Thulin, considered a designer she loves to experiment with, followed courses at the Studio Berçot fashion school in Paris. She also worked for Chloé, Sonia Rykiel and Simone Rocha before turning to jewelry with her own brand in 2018. Even if the materials used are not particularly precious, the original design, the design and the thematic proposal make Helena Thulin’s bijoux something new. She works in her atelier in Paris.
