Faraone Casa d’Aste: the hammer will beat again in May. Here are the most interesting pieces.
Back to beat the hammer Patrizia Carrobio, banditrice Faraone Casa d’Aste. A discount for Pink Star
The super diamond Pink Star is back for sale at Sotheby’s. With a discount of 12 million.
The never ending story of the diamond most valuable in the world: Pink Star, mined in South Africa in 1999, 59.60 carats mounted on a ring, is back on sale. It was sold by Sotheby’s in Geneva in November 2013 to a record $ 83 Million Dollars. but the buyer, Isaac Wolf, after three months did not pay (it was not easy, let’s face it). It happens not often in auctions a flop so sensational, but Wolf complained compliance Failure of a pool of investors agreements that had to share with him the big cost. And so Pink Star was back in the coffers of Sotheby’s, forced by contract to buy back the stone, and put a balance sheet for about 72 million dollars. Last june, a new twist: Sotheby’s was near a buyer. But it was not at all: the diamond perhaps was too expensive. Now the auction house puts on sale the diamond, this time in Hong Kong, April 4. But the estimate is lower, 60 million dollars. It’s a discount enough to find a buyer? Federico Graglia

Or a necklace of Cartier Panthere series. Or, finally, a big diamond ring pear cut. The auctions of jewelry are back. You start plan, on January 18 in London: the first auction of 2017 is signed Christie’s and is routine. There are not Magnificent Jewels, but normal jewels, although of big names and with prices that do not exceed $ 25,000, at least in the estimates. Betsy lights Christie’s
The Betsy Bloomingdale jewels illuminate the Christie’s auction in New York, but the top lot is a platinum ring.
The jewels belonged to Betsy Bloomingdale were sold out. Stones and jewels were of excellent quality and, perhaps, also the history of these pieces auctioned at Christie’s in New York fascinated buyers. They were eventually collected over $ 4 million from the sale of these Magnificent Jewels. Betty Lee Newling, Betsy, had married Alfred Bloomingdale, heir to the dynasty that gave birth to Bloomingdale stores. In america was a well known couple. She died last summer at age 93. Her ring with diamond from 1.29 carat, pear-cut, flanked by three baguette diamonds, was sold for 1.9 million dollars was the fourth in the sale price. A diamond necklace signed Harry Winston has instead been sold for 1 million. Always the same jeweler was for sale a pair of earrings with diamond pendants, each with marquise and pear cut diamonds group: they were beaten at $ 487,500, while a diamond brooch rose from pre-sale estimate of 150,000 dollars at a price of 223,500. But the top lot was a platinum ring with a 51.35 carat diamond, rectangular cut, sold for 5.6 million, followed by a ring of cushion-cut sapphire of 75.41 carats, went to 3.8 million. Christie’s: blue diamond overcomes Ruby
The results of the auction of Magnificent Jewels at Christie’s in Hong Kong: a blue diamond sold for $ 11.8 million beats all.
Surprise: The Ratnaraj Ruby, ring with stone from the bright red color and a perfect crystal structure, it is not the most beautiful of them all. At least in a Christie’s auction in Hong Kong. The crowning, instead, has been a ring with blue marquise cut diamond by Moussaieff, sold for 11.8 million dollars. The ruby, however, came soon after: the stone was baptized ratnaraj, which means “king of precious stones” in ancient Sanskrit (the historical language of India). In reality, the ruby, weighing over 10 carats, mounted on a ring and surrounded by diamonds, it comes from Burma. This stone is considered to be of exceptional color and is called pigeon blood, a very rare quality. The estimate for this ring was between 8.8 and 12.5 million US dollars. It was sold for 10.2 million: exactly in the middle. In short, no record, but still quite successful. As always in auctions in the East is a highly valued the jade. A jade necklace was sold for 3.4 million dollars, while a suite of jadeite and diamond has carried 3.1 million. Of note is the two diamond earrings Boehmer et Bassenge newborn, sold for 2.8 million. Not bad for a rookie. Well even a pin with emerald signed Van Cleef & Arpels sold for 1 million. Federico Graglia
Sotheby’s, surprises collectibles
Jewelry style, collector rings, magnificent jewels: there are last fireworks of the year at auction at Sotheby’s in December.
Lovers of exceptional jewelry, collectors of gemstones, design lover: it is the your moment. As every year, the big auction houses ring the trumpets before Christmas and, like the fireworks year-end, they reserve for the last few minutes the sound barrels, the flashes that make gape, the lights of antique jewelry and pedigree.
Licthblau collection
In New York, on 8 and 9 December Sotheby’s takes the field with two sets of sales. The first day is reserved for the Magnificent Jewels, with jewelry from the collection of George and Anne Licthblau. George Lichtblau, entrepreneur, studied electrical engineering at Princeton University before attending Harvard Business School, after which he became an innovator of optical fiber industry, founding two transmission companies to great success. It disappeared last August. Anna, also known as Gladys, graduated from Simmons College before marrying George in 1968. She died in July. The collection of jewels auctioned Lichtblau is quite wide and varied. It includes pieces by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Tiffany. In particular, Sotheby’s noted two flexible bracelets by Van Cleef & Arpels: a mystery-set rubies and a diamond bracelet (estimate dollars 125-175000) and a mystery-set sapphire and diamonds (estimate 80- $ 120,000). The mystery set is that of a patented technique in 1933 that allows the stones to be stopped without see the griffes. The collection also includes a jadeite and diamond brooch by Cartier (estimate 100-150,000 dollars) dated circa 1925.
Collection Joan Oestreich Kend
This sale is characterized by private collections. Joan Oestreich Kend was one of the first female stockbrokers on Wall Street. Grew up in a wealthy family, was always surrounded by art and antiques. The pleasure of buying beautiful things has not lost during his life in New York, in his apartment on Fifth Avenue, where she was exposed the Oestreich Kend collection. The jewels include a wide selection of famous jewels of the seventies. A highlight of the collection is a diamond ring emerald-cut 11.15 carat (estimated 425 to 525,000 dollars) and a classic set of necklace and the parenthesis clip series of Bulgari (estimated 18 to 22,000 dollars).
Gifts session
The second auction at Sotheby’s is dedicated to Fine Jewels, dedicated to those who want to buy high-quality pieces, perhaps to make a gift. There are jewels from Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier and Bulgari. But also it includes jewels of the collection of Marjorie S. Fisher and Lichtblau. Among the valuable pieces, a diamond necklace Suzanne Belperron (estimate 40-60,000 dollars). Federico Graglia
The History seen by Christie’s
The story of History, through the auctions of Christie’s jewelry: a book tells extraordinary 250 years.
History of jewelry or, perhaps, we should say History with a capital H, through the auctions at Christie’s. A book tells why and how the auctions of famous Maison London, who turned 250 years old, are a mirror not only of taste and a certain way of understanding the valuables, but also the memory of great events. Just to mention two cases: Finished precious objects auctioned by Christie’s and belonged by two queens finished both beheaded, Mary Stuart and Marie Antoinette. Of course there are far less tragic stories that have gone under the hammer of auctioneer.
Precious pages
The book is entitled Christie’s, The Jewellery Archives Revealed, and was written by Vincent Meylan, a specialist in precious stones and jewelery, author of numerous biographies, who works on the history of the precious stones. And the cover has an image significant: the tiara The Cambridge Lover Knot, created at the beginning of the early nineteenth century for Princess Augusta of Hesse Cassel, Duchess of Cambridge, and then sold at Christie’s on 13 maggio1981. A copy of the tiara, commissioned by the Queen Mother, was worn by Queen Elizabeth II and, without the upright pearls, by Diana, Princess of Wales, and now by Kate Middleton. An image that gives the idea of what can go at auction. On the other hand, the first sale of jewels from the British royal family took place at Christie’s in 1773, after the death of the Princess of Wales, mother of George III. As reveal the archives, in the following centuries Christie’s handled the sale of jewelry from several other British royal generations, from Lady Patricia Ramsay, of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, to Princess Maud, Countess of Southesk, and the Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.
Jewelry, blood and celluloid
As mentioned, there were also the crown jewels that have ended at the auction after tragic paths, such as those of France, Russia, Bavaria, Serbia, Egypt, India and Spain. All sold at Christie’s, after revolutions and abrupt changes. Completely different stories of Hollywood stars, including their protagonists the auction. From the jewels of Elizabeth Taylor to those of Merle Oberon and Gloria Swanson. All illustrated in the book. Federico Graglia

This ruby is a king
In a Christie’s auction of a Burmese ruby will be the star in Hong Kong.

And now Christie’s tries again, but in Hong Kong: november 29 has scheduled an auction with dazzling ratnaraj Ruby. With a bright red color and a perfect crystal structure, the stone was baptized ratnaraj, which means “king of precious stones” in ancient Sanskrit (a historical Indian language). In reality, the ruby, weighing over 10 carats, mounted on a ring and surrounded by diamonds, it comes from Burma. This stone is considered to be of exceptional color and is called pigeon blood, a very rare quality. It comes from Faidee, a brand which is almost synonymous with rubies. The estimate for this ring is between 8.8 and 12.5 million US dollars. Federico Graglia

The sale will also take place this time at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan. In the catalog there are over one hundred pieces of fine jewelry and watches. In particular, there are also jewels as gift for the pre-holiday period, with a price around a thousand euros. Among the jewelry for sale are jewelry brands like Buccellati, Faraone, Bulgari, Cartier, Pomellato, a solitaire signed Tiffany & Co weighing 1.60 carats, a couple of Chantecler earrings in platinum with diamonds and baguette with two drops Colombian emeralds briolette 22 carat total. Next to jewels and watches, an important place in the Christmas Auction, as in the previous auction of Faraone Casa d’Aste, will the individual diamonds, with international certificate, “at very competitive prices compared to prices offered by traders or banks, also to less than 60% of the Rapaport Official list “, anticipates the company. Sotheby’s in The Sky Blue
In Geneva, Sotheby’s is auctioning a Cartier ring with an exceptional blue diamond, estimated up to 25 million.
Prepare your wallet, check your checkbook, break the piggy bank pig-shaped: to buy this ring with a big blue diamond, takes a lot of money. If you are interested, tune on the auction of November 16 at Sotheby’s in Geneva. Among the Magnificent Jewels, in fact, there is also The Sky Blue Diamond, 08.01 carats described as a wonderfully light blue, by David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby’s International Jewelry Division. All right, the opinion is interested, but it is the color of this gemstone is really out of the ordinary. No coincidence that this ring has a rating of those tall, between 15 million and 25 million dollars. The price is, in fact, determined by the quality of the stone: the Gemological Institute of America has rated The Sky Blue Diamond the highest color grading possible, Fancy Vivid blue. An assessment that places it at the top, so, between that miserable one percent of all blue diamonds, which are already rare. And more, the stone has been classified as a rare type IIb: comprising less than 0.5 percent of all diamonds of all colors. In addition, there is also the rest: the ring on which is mounted the diamond is a Cartier, which is also offering other colorless diamonds. Recall that another diamond sold at Sotheby’s, The Blue Moon, 12.03 carat cushion-shaped, was purchased at auction for 48.5 million just a year ago. This suggests that a blue diamond carat is evaluated for about 4 million: you do the math. In the same auction also belong jewelry and other precious stones: pink diamonds, antiques, extraordinary rings. We’ll talk about when it becomes available catalog. Federico Graglia

Christie’s sells 2 pieces of Boehmer et Bassenge
Two exceptional jewels signed by Boehmer et Bassenge will be sold at Christie’s.
The house Christie’s has been chosen by Boehmer et Bassenge to launch their new Maison of fine jewelry based in France. And the debut goes with the introduction of two exceptional jewels from their first collection. In short, a star is born and is located straight above the sky of Paris. The Maison is named in honor of Charles Boehmer and Paul Bassenge, Parisian jewelers of the eighteenth century, they created a series of exceptional diamonds and a necklace historically famous during the reign of Louis XV. Have you read The Three Musketeers by Alexander Dumas? Have you at least seen on television cartoons of Lady Oscar? Well, just that necklace. The brand was born in 2013 on the initiative of RDH Diamonds, a company based in Antwerp and that, as its name indicates, trades in white stones that make the world go crazy. And first-rate: the Maison works exclusively with large stones, D color, Flawless clarity, perfect polish and symmetry. With this recipe were created exceptional jewels: just a couple of pieces a year. And now Christie’s “is honored to present two, a necklace and a pair of earrings,” premiered in Hong Kong, London, New York and Geneva. The pieces will be included in an auction of Magnificent Jewels to be held on November 15 in Geneva. Warning: will be offered without a reserve price. So that means that each piece will be sold, no matter the final price reached in the room. If you want to prepare …

Bulgari doubles at Sotheby’s New York
At Sotheby’s auction, was unsold a 27-carat diamond, while a Bulgari ring doubles the estimate.
Autumn surprises: what does it mean if the most precious diamond for sale is snubbed and remains in the safe? That’s what happened in New York, the first auction of Sotheby’s fall season (we talked about here https://gioiellis.com/big-in-vendita-a-new-york/). Star of the sale was a platinum ring with a diamond of 27.35 carats oval. The estimate of this gem was quite high: 2-2,5 million dollars. Despite the conspicuous dimensions of the stone, the ring has not been sold. But if the diamond did flop, the auction was stunned for some quotes that have multiplied the starting assessments. The top lot of the day, in fact, turned out to be a Bulgari ring with a sapphire cushion cut, weight 24.72 carats, surrounded by diamonds shaped like a pear. The ring was valued before the auction up to $ 350,000, and instead was beaten to 706,000, more than double.
It was not the only jewel to abduct the eyes of buyers: a suite of Van Cleef & Arpels (necklace with diamonds and yellow sapphires and blue sets 18K gold and earrings) was sold for $ 340,000. Price also booming for one of the most anticipated jewelry: the jellyfish in glass and enamel is a gold ring 18K signed René Lalique, from $ 20,000 stock was sold for 322,000. Federico Graglia
Pink record for Bolaffi

The ring thus became the top lot ever in the history of Bolaffi. A sign that not only in Geneva, Hong Kong and New York is fought to the sound of raises to clinch interesting pieces. “The satisfaction is twofold, both for the sensational figure reached by the single piece, both because our auction house managed to sell in Italy, and with an outstanding result, an object usually offered only abroad”, is the comment of the Ceo, Filippo Bolaffi.
The total realization of the sale of nearly 2 million and a half euro. The second top lot was a ring with teardrop diamond color D and purity of VVS1 (lot 1379), flew to € 225,000, more than double the original estimate.
