The super diamond Pink Star is back for sale at Sotheby’s. With a discount of 12 million.
The never ending story of the diamond most valuable in the world: Pink Star, mined in South Africa in 1999, 59.60 carats mounted on a ring, is back on sale. It was sold by Sotheby’s in Geneva in November 2013 to a record $ 83 Million Dollars. but the buyer, Isaac Wolf, after three months did not pay (it was not easy, let’s face it). It happens not often in auctions a flop so sensational, but Wolf complained compliance Failure of a pool of investors agreements that had to share with him the big cost. And so Pink Star was back in the coffers of Sotheby’s, forced by contract to buy back the stone, and put a balance sheet for about 72 million dollars. Last june, a new twist: Sotheby’s was near a buyer. But it was not at all: the diamond perhaps was too expensive. Now the auction house puts on sale the diamond, this time in Hong Kong, April 4. But the estimate is lower, 60 million dollars. It’s a discount enough to find a buyer? Federico Graglia
