At Sotheby’s auction, was unsold a 27-carat diamond, while a Bulgari ring doubles the estimate.
Autumn surprises: what does it mean if the most precious diamond for sale is snubbed and remains in the safe? That’s what happened in New York, the first auction of Sotheby’s fall season (we talked about here https://gioiellis.com/big-in-vendita-a-new-york/). Star of the sale was a platinum ring with a diamond of 27.35 carats oval. The estimate of this gem was quite high: 2-2,5 million dollars. Despite the conspicuous dimensions of the stone, the ring has not been sold. But if the diamond did flop, the auction was stunned for some quotes that have multiplied the starting assessments. The top lot of the day, in fact, turned out to be a Bulgari ring with a sapphire cushion cut, weight 24.72 carats, surrounded by diamonds shaped like a pear. The ring was valued before the auction up to $ 350,000, and instead was beaten to 706,000, more than double.
It was not the only jewel to abduct the eyes of buyers: a suite of Van Cleef & Arpels (necklace with diamonds and yellow sapphires and blue sets 18K gold and earrings) was sold for $ 340,000. Price also booming for one of the most anticipated jewelry: the jellyfish in glass and enamel is a gold ring 18K signed René Lalique, from $ 20,000 stock was sold for 322,000. Federico Graglia
