The Universe by Giorgio Visconti

/

The Universo collection by Giorgio Visconti is in white and pink gold with diamonds ♦︎
Giorgio Visconti is one of the jewelery brands born in the Valenza area, the cradle of Italian high jewelery. But, even if it operates in a secluded corner compared to the big cities, it looks far away. Indeed, very far, even to the Universe. This is the name of one of the last 21 collections (gathered under the name of Futuro) radically renewed and presented in the autumn of 2017. Universo is a candidate to stay for a long time in the catalog of the Maison. Giorgio Visconti is also a brand that combines a good craftsmanship with an affordable price, considering the quality of the jewel. The shape of the new Universe is composed of a double drop line, alternating with small flowers made with diamonds. There are two color variations, with the use of white or pink gold, in some cases used together. The price of a ring ranges around 2000 euros. Alessia Mongrando

The Bon Ton by Gianni Carità

/

The Bon Ton line by Gianni Carità & Figli, luxury jewelry made in the South Italy ♦ ︎
The wedding celebrated last summer (2017) in Capri between Pierpaolo Carità and Dalila Leperino (with 200 guests), has put back in the spotlight what is now a dynasty of jewelers accredited by success. Gianni Carità & Figli (Pierpaolo is the youngest of the three) is based in Tarì, a goldsmith’s center a few kilometers from Naples. But the company’s jewels are particularly popular many miles away, in countries like Belgium, Germany, England, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain and the United States, but also Japan, where they arrived in 1985 with the opening of the first corner in the Department Store of Yokohama. The jewels of the Neapolitan Maison are not, however, linked to the particular style of the local tradition. To summarize, the company is not specialized only in coral jewelry or cameos. As exemplified by the collections based on white gold and diamonds, Gianni Carità & Figli, they travel in the high-end territory, in the wake of the classic goldsmith tradition. As well as, equally classic, is the processing of jewelry, consolidated in a goldsmith tradition of craftsmanship. An example? The Bon Ton Brillanti line, with pavé processing rings. Jennifer Meyer, the Spider-Man designer

Jennifer Meyer, the Los Angeles designer who loved Spider-Man ♦ ︎
Someone is born traveling on the right track: at six years Jennifer Meyer has learned to make objects with enamel from her grandmother, the Californian artist Edith Meyer. In short, she grew up in a creative environment that gave her the first notions useful for her work, the jewelry designer. But, as often happens, her path has not been linear. Prior to founding her company in Los Angeles more than ten years ago, Jennifer Meyer worked in the communications industry with designers such as Ralph Lauren and Giorgio Armani. In 2005, however, she managed to fulfill her dream, initially designing jewelry for friends or family. Then, with the creation of her brand, increasingly appreciated, so as to be selected among the designers who landed on the online sales site Net-a-porter. Her style is very modern and simple, with a profusion of gold, small stones and, in particular, turquoise, for which she has a predilection. In short, that fine jewellery pleasant, without excessive stramberie and very easy to wear. For gossip lovers, we can also add that Jennifer Meyer had a long relationship with Tobey Maguire, the actor who also played Spiderman. Lavinia Andorno

Rockyourmind for millennials

///

Rockyourmind, not just a suggestion, but also a new jewelry brand ♦ ︎
The big jewelry houses are looking for the key to open the door that leads to the world of millennials. That is the younger ones, who seem less impressed by the paludate tradition of historical brands. That’s why new brands are born, which not only appeal to a younger audience, but are also created by new players. This is the case of Giulia and Federica Faggi, two Tuscan sisters who founded Rockyourmind about a year ago. The name of the jewelery brand is already an idea that suggests what kind of earrings, necklaces and bracelets are offered. First of all, a lot of design. Essential lines, without frills with direct geometries: squares, circles, triangles, rhombuses. The dimensions of the individual pieces can also be tending to maxi. The rhodium silver is in different colors (gold, silver, pink): it’s the base metal, but worked with a handmade scratch that personalizes the object. The jewels are already distributed in some jewelers store but, coherently with the mission of Rockyourmind, they are also on sale on the website of the small Maison. Even the prices are homogeneous to the audience to which the brand is addressed: ranging from 48 euros for the less expensive ring, up to 275 for the Big triangle pendent with a 90 cm chain and 315 euros for the Linear triangle bracelet.

Bluespirit, classic for everyone

Bluespirit, Princess collection, classic shapes at popular price ♦ ︎
Let’s face it: wearing a pair of earrings with large diamonds, rubies or emeralds is a tempting idea. But not all women can have high jewelry sets in the drawer and not even too many valuable jewels. That’s why there are collections born as jewels that have the classic shape, but that instead of real gemstones mount cubic zirconia or crystals with the same color of diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. The whole, if it is not examined by an expert, has the same effect as the most noble jewels of the great Maison. This is the case, for example, of Princess, a collection of Bluespirit (Morellato group) that is inspired by classic jewelery. Crystals and zirconia are offered in a square or oval shape, set in four jaws, mounted on 925 silver. Prices, of course, are not those of “classic” jewelry: a pair of 925 ‰ silver earrings with zircons and colored crystals 49 euros, 59 euros, 55 euros, 59 euros. Giulia Netrese

Rebecca overlooking the Mediterranean

Rebecca prepares for summer with two collections dedicated to the Mediterranean ♦ ︎
You may think more of something when it is far away. Summer, for example, is more desired in winter than when the hot season has already begun. Perhaps this aspect can be kept in mind when you take a look at two Rebecca collections, both dedicated to the Mediterranean. The warm colors of summer can be worn in the form of floral elements, oval cameos in coral paste that evoke vacation spots, beaches and sun. It’s out of tune with winter? Not really: rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets are made with warm and luminous shades: turquoise, red and pink corals are combined with gold reflections and the gleam of opalescent zircons. But Rebecca also offers a Mediterranean line that turns black. It can go very well even when the snow falls. The jewels of the two collections are designed and made in Italy. The materials used are rhodium-plated bronze, steel or gold, zircons and coral paste. Margherita Donato

Recarlo’s Eternity Royal collection: white gold, diamonds and curves. Images and prices ♦ ︎
Those looking for rings can mark this name: Eternity Royal. It is the Recarlo’s collection that is added to the Eternity family, always without betraying the style and design philosophy of the founder model. The collection, to be honest, includes not only rings, but also bracelets, co-stars of the collection. White gold and pavé diamonds are the other elements that sign the aesthetics of jewels. According to Recarlo, the designers who conceived the collection followed the curves of the female body. Maybe. Although it is difficult who receive a bracelet or ring as a gift to compare the curvature angles with their own. Rather, it will look at the pavé accurately embedded with the use of the microscope. Diamonds are selected so as to obtain uniform surfaces in terms of color and brightness. The bracelets have a hidden spring that facilitates the action of wearing them. It should also be added that next to the bracelets the collection also includes earrings and pendants, always with the same characteristics. Prices: a bracelet with diamonds 8.390 euros, ring with pavé 3.300 euros.

Neraviglia in winter

The Neraviglia collection by Al Coro: rose gold, diamonds and a special blackened steel ♦︎
Launched in 2016 as an out-of-the-ordinary collection, the Neraviglia line of jewelery by Al Coro has been enriched with pieces to cover all possible needs. The Al Coro brand, German, was founded by an Italian, Giuliano Corelli, and retains that Mediterranean touch that is perhaps one of the aesthetic components that makes it appreciate abroad. The Neraviglia collection, a name deriving from the crasis between the Italian word nero (black) and meraviglia (wonder), manages to astonish with the contrast between the blackened steel coating and the rose gold. To the metals are added also pavé of white or black diamonds. Black steel is certainly unconventional, the effect is surprising and the name chosen for the collection is consistent. Black steel is the result of a special surface treatment: the material is anti-scratch and finished by the fogging of incandescent iron with fine black powder. The opaque tracks with black wrapping are cleverly intertwined with 18-karat gold loops. The collection is presented in a trilogy of necklace, ring and earrings and is divided into several lines: Primavera, Mezzaluna, Serenata, Gioia, Candy. Prices: a necklace with a pendant with diamonds costs about 9600 euros, a ring, always with gold and diamonds, 3900, but it goes down to 1000 euros for a pair of earrings. Alessia Mongrando

Beatrice rhymes with pearls

/

Pearls dedicated to Beatrice, the muse of Dante, in the Mayumi collection ♦
Beatrice, a character who has become eternal thanks to Dante. The greatest Italian poet, was in love with her, unattainable (it seems that Beatrice was married to the rich Folco Portinari), and placed her in Paradise, where she guides Dante in his literary visit to the celestial spheres. Traditionally, perhaps also because of its ethereal distance, Beatrice has been portrayed by painters as a girl of white complexion, with delicate and pearly features. And that’s why Mayumi, a Veronese brand specialized in pearl jewelry, has dedicated a new collection white gold, diamonds and Akoya pearls to Beatrice. The collection includes the classic types of jewels with white pearls: one-row necklaces with a small pendant, rings with a pearl or in a contrarié version with two spheres, earrings. All very traditional, regular, reassuring. For those who do not want to risk wrong choices: the pearl is a classic, like the Divine Comedy. Lavinia Andorno

Pomellato, 50 years of Iconic jewelery

The Iconica collection by Pomellato celebrates the first 50 years of the Milanese Maison ♦ ︎
At 50, today, you are still young. This does not mean that we should take lightly the date that marks the passage in the second half century of life. But since the best way to stay young is to do business, work or sport, Pomellato has decided to remember his first 50 years in the way he can do better, that is, with new jewels. The collection that marks the fateful date is called Iconica and respects the style of the Milanese Maison founded in 1967 by Pino Rabolini and passed in 2013 under the flag of the French Group Kering. Rounded volumes, smooth surfaces, modern design but not exasperated: new rings, new chain bracelets and pendants are in white gold or pink gold, surrounded by some diamond versions. In short, nothing better than reiterating own personality in order to resume your journey. Margherita Donato

New Bouton by Van Cleef & Arpels

The new pieces with Bouton d’or collection by Van Cleef & Arpels, and also a watch ♦ ︎
Gold buttons. A simple element, always used for clothing. From this small round metal, one of the largest jewelery Maison, Van Cleef & Arpels, launched the Bouton d’or collection, inspired by a jewelery design introduced in 1939. Launched in the spring of 2016, the collection now enriches with five new pieces. Not only: in addition to the jewelery line it also introduces a watch. New arrivals are a necklace, a ring, a bracelet, earrings and a pendant, always in pink gold and white gold rhodium-plated to enhance brilliance, with a diamond in the center of the button, embossed in castone. Diamonds are chosen among the finest quality classes: D, E or F for color, IF and VVS for purity. The structure consisting of so many small metal elements contributes to increasing the volume and reflections of jewelery. It is no coincidence that the shape resembles the luxury version of the sequins. New jewels are added to those that use corniola, mother of pearl, chrysoprase and yellow gold.
The Bouton d’or collection is inspired by the paillette pattern that is recorded in the archives of the Maison in 1939. In the forties, yellow pastilles are used in a variety of ways, for example with buttons assembled on a ring or along the threads of a double necklace. The motif was later evoked in the 1950s, with simple or crossed bracelets, ornamented earrings, until it reached 2016, with the rebirth of the buttons.

The platinum ring with three smells

A Norwegian artist and a German designer-designer have designed a ring that emanates three fragrances ♦ ︎
What can be the scent of a jewel? Now, at least in one case, it can be established. The idea is of the Norwegian artist Sissel Tolaas, who together with designer and goldsmith Georg Hornemann have created a unique piece as a meditation about the odor world. The smells are not just pleasant or unpleasant sensations, but they condition people’s lives as well as affect their behavior. Georg Hornemann has studied various types of odor containers. And he thought of recreating a jewel inspired by the rings containing poison, used by noblemen in the Renaissance. At the same time, Sissel Tolaas, an artist who has worked with smells for years, has designed three fragrances that have special goals: provoking attraction, distraction, or attention.
Through a rotating mechanism inside the jewel, the intensity of each smell can be controlled. A mechanism allows to recharge the ring. But it’s not a toy: the ring is made entirely of platinum and is available in only six specimens. The price is 18,000 euros. Federico Graglia

Tenzo, the precious soul of Russia

The extraordinary, and rare, jewels by the Russian Maison Tenzo ♦ ︎
Alexander Tenzo is anusual figure in the world of jewelery. He is Russian, he opened his Maison in St. Petersburg in 1996 when he was not yet 30 years old, and specialized in the trading of precious stones and gems: a passion that was born during the visit of ruby mines in Sri Lanka. He loves very much the colors of stones like spinelli, crisoberillo, green garnets, rubellite, alexandrite. His Russian soul leads him to create theatrical jewelery, with strong contrasts, sculptors. Like other great jewelers, Tenzo makes a few pieces and conceives them from the quality and, above all, the character of the stones. This adds fantasy to the design of form, tradition, passion, craft skill that encompasses the very popular enamel technique in Russia, or micro pavé. One of his points of reference is the Russian jeweler, Carl Fabergé. Gold is often twisted, embroidered, sometimes transformed with unparalleled nuances, often to infuse vintage air. In addition to boutique in 7 Rentgena Street in St. Petersburg, his jewels can be found (with some luck) in Switzerland, Heimperg, New York and London. Alessia Mongrando

Harry’s ring for Meghan

/

The engagement ring from Prince Harry to Meghan. And the jewels of the British royal family ♦ ︎
It is official: Prince Harry, 32, will marry Meghan Markle, 36 years old. Wedding sets for the spring of 2018. The couple, as they have told all the media, is not traditional. Divorced she, with her ancestors for nothing of blue blood, while he is sixth in the scale of possible future kings of England, and he is younger. After the wedding of Kate Middleton and William, therefore, the lights are ready to illuminate the next princely marriage. With many questions. For example, which jewelry Meghan Markle will be able to compete with Kate? The game has just started. Cambridge’s Duchess, when he was engaged to William, received a sapphire ring, made by London’s jeweler Garrard, who belonged to the groom’s mother, Diana. Meghan, on the other hand, to her first official Harry promised wedding release, showed a ring made using a diamond from Botswana (where the couple was on vacation) accompanied by two other diamonds from Diana’s personal collection. In short, this is something that connects the future Harry Windsor with the groom’s mother.

Real estate
In short, that is the official engagement ring. In family patrimony, however, in the future Harry could find other jewels. Another family ring, for example, belongs to Princess Margaret, who has a ruby surrounded by diamonds in the center, made by Anthony Armstrong-Jones. There are, of course, many other alternatives in real estate. The Queen Mother, who died in 2002, had two engagement rings. The first was a large gold sapphire, later replaced by a pearl surrounded by diamonds in the 1950s.
Windsor’s rings
With a jump back in time, one could remember another wedding between a real British and an American womand, Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson. The king immediately after abdicating gave Wallis (even her divorced) an emerald ring of 19.77 carats. The jewel engraved the words “We are now 27 X 36”, referring to October 27, 1936, the date Wallis obtained his second divorce. The ring belonging to Wallis Simpson was however sold in 1987 for 1, 8 million pounds to a Japanese businessman.
Queen Elizabeth often wears an impressive square cut diamond designed by Prince Phillip. The diamond comes from his mother’s tiara: it is difficult to surrender to Meghan. Yet another ring that is not available is that which belongs to Camilla, wife of Charles, father of Harry. It is an Art Deco ring that formerly belonged to Queen Mother.
Meghan’s jewels
Like Kate Middleton, however, Meghan Markle also loves wearing too precious jewels. For example, in recent years he often wore jewels to a young Australian designer, Natalie Marie, based in Sydney. Natalie sent that to a few months ago was a mere actress some jewels and Meghan posted them on her Instagram account many times with thanksgiving. Margherita Donato

Aquatic Jewelery with Waterpolo

/

Waterpolo, silver collection dedicated to water polo by Claudia Albera ♦ ︎
The jewelery designer Claudia Albera was the first to devote a jewelery line to synchronized swimming. She is probably the only one to be inspired by so difficult and relatively little practiced water sports. After the first collection called Syncro (which has just added the icon ring), here is a new line of jewels, Waterpolo, which has always as subject the world of water sports. Waterpolo is inspired by water polo, sport practiced by both men and women. The jewels are in silver and interpret the subjects and objects of the water polo, even with a dip (it is the case to say) in the color. Jewelery is designed by Claudia Albera and made in Italy. And, since silver does not rust, maybe you can also wear it in the pool. Lavinia Andorno

Yeprem on the good Strada

The Pink Strada collection by Yeprem, diamond jewelry specialist ♦ ︎
“Inspired by a golden bracelet bestowed by his mother, which was intended to provide him and his family a brighter future, Lebanese born of Armenian descent Yeprem Chakardemian established his own jewellery brand in 1964.” The story of the Beirut Maison, which has become famous all over the world especially for its diamond jewels, is so talked about. Since then Yeprem has gained fame, honors and a solid awareness of being among the leading brands in this kind of jewelery. But of course, over time he has been able to renew himself: not just classic jewelry in white gold and diamonds, but also variations such as the Pink Strada collection, in which next to marquise cut diamonds is the pink gold to be highlighted. The metal is machined in different ways: shiny, with reflexes that make the play with diamonds, or satin, to further enhance the light that crosses the stones. Even the shape, between curves and concave volumes, add personality to the Pink Strada collection. Alessia Mongrando

Pianegonda Dorifera

The Dorifera collection by Pianegonda, images and prices ♦ ︎
Born with blood design, the Vicenza brand Pianegonda has known alternate fortunes, until, a couple of years ago, was detected by Bros Manifatture. In the hands of the Tuscan company that has launched successful brands such as Brosway Gioielli, S’Agapõ and Rosato, Pianegonda’s tradition has flourished again. Of course, the new course interprets the philosophy of the new property: design yes, but with the obligation to be pleasing and easy to wear. An example is the Dorifera collection, which is made with a machining system that sculpts the objects creating symmetries that give a sense of lightness to the jewel. The collection is in silver 925. The metal is however proposed in three different variants: only silver, galvanized pink gold, galvanized black gold and zirconia. Prices: starts with a ring of 135 euros, to go up to the top price for a blue zircon bracelet of 495 euros. Margherita Donato

A lesson of gems by Sanalitro

New rings and earrings from jeweler and Milan designer Sanalitro. With more news ♦ ︎
There are so many ways to do jewelery or design. One of these ways is to add philosophical, historical or ideal meanings to the material you are using. After all, jewels were born not only as ornaments, but also with a precise function, spiritual or amulet. This second street is run by Milanese designer Sanalitro, which emphasizes the not only technical aspects of stones and metals, but also their cultural context. For example, for the ring with a white agate stalk, white opal and 18 carat white gold, Sanalitro says that iridescent stone has “angelic connections. It is often used to erase emotions to create more positive vibrations. It is useful to balance all the chakras. It is said that opal is many things including the most powerful of healing stones, the stone of hope, the stone of great success, and even the stone of the gods. The ancient Romans associate opals with hope and good fortune.” It’s true? Who knows. Waiting to see if a opal helps to win the lottery, here’s the explanation for a ring with lapis lazuli: “a powerful stone to stimulate your intuition and thirst for knowledge. The name lapis lazuli is mélange of languages. From Latin, lapis means stone. From Arabic, azul means blue.”  Etc. In short, with Sanalitro not only you buy a jewel, but also a small encyclopedia on the gems. Knowing more is never bad. Giulia Netrese
