For San Valentino Breil proposes his idea of success, Stones. As the name suggests, it is a collection of jewels or, better than a system, which is all centered on the stones. But not so much for their intrinsic preciousness. The collection, in fact, boasts an innovative approach to customers, which allows you to configure a ring like a car. That is, maintaining the metal frame of the ring as a base in two different shapes (contrarié or solitaire), but with four variations, because the steel finish can also be chosen in pink. The rest of the car set up, ops, of the jewel is chosen by the customer, who can identify the stone and the cut. The gems are of different types: there are zircons, natural stones like agate and so-called hydrothermal, that is synthetic. Once the stone has been chosen, it is possible to identify its shape: round, with a faceted or larger and irregular heart shape. It is well known that Alfieri & St.John distinguishes itself from other jewelery brands at least for one aspect: it identifies each collection with a date. The year that distinguishes the different lines, therefore, not only traces the inspiration, but refers to events of the past particularly significant. For the 2017 collection, however, it is somehow an exception. The date, in fact, is a reference to the same Maison, returned to the limelight a few years ago after a period of tarnishing. Alfieri & St.John, born in 1977, has completed its first 40 years. And, like any self-respecting birthday, he celebrated in the way that is most congenial to him. The collection differs a little from the aggressive and futuristic forms of the famous crucifix pendant, which has become a symbol of the house. Rings, bracelets and earrings are made of white gold or rose gold with stones such as topaz, amethysts, smoky quartz, navette cut or cabochon, and diamonds. You do not need to be a follower of Anonymous to wear Guy Fawkes’ masks: for example, it might be fun to wear a mask during the carnival period (and not only). But is it possible to go shopping or at the office wearing a mask? Certainly not, if you hide your face. But you can always opt for a more elegant idea, like the jewels of the Garavelli Face collection. It is not a new line of jewelry. Indeed, it is now a few years that is in the catalog of the Piedmontese Maison. But it could be the right idea to celebrate the carnival, without forgetting that wearing a mask also takes on much more serious meanings in some cultures, like the oriental ones. This is precisely why the Maison of San Paolo has created a collection entrusted to the creativity of Brazilian fashion designer Lethicia Bronstein, the her first collection of jewelry. The collection is called Laces and plays whit on gold and stones made using the lightness of lace. That Daniela Villegas is a lover of nature is known. But it is curious to observe how, within his observation of the natural world, there are aspects to which the Mexican-born designer based in Los Angeles is more interested. The most beloved world is, perhaps, that of insects. Big, small, grotesque if transformed into jewelry: beetles and relatives are among the subjects that have become more sources of inspiration. But another strand is that of the sea. And, in particular, to animals that most resemble insects: crabs. With menacing claws that show off large transparent gems, the crabs are interpreted by Daniela Villegas with colored stones, with strong colors, such as tourmalines and opals, next to gold and diamonds. Pasquale Bruni did not disappoint visitors to VicenzaOro January 2018. La Maison di Valenza, one of the few able to compete with the French giants of high-jewelry, presented several innovations. One of these is the Stelle in fiore line. The collection has a poetic inspiration: it reproduces “a dance of leaves that travel like comets of stars in the most precious nights, up to illuminate the first sunrise in the spring gardens with warmth”. Specifically, the contrarié model combines the star shape with the flower shape between colliers, bracelets, rings and earrings. The jewels are made of white or rose gold together with white, black and champagne diamonds. The result is a collection that alternates between light and dark, the white of the day and the black of the night, next to the pink of dawn or evening. Also this collection does not lack the literary comment of the designer, Eugenia Bruni: “Nature always loves us, the day with flowers and at night with the stars”.

Two new pieces of high jewelery made by Sicis with the technique of micromosaic, combined with diamonds and rubies, the Arabesque parure ♦ ︎
The micromosaic becomes a jewel: it is one of the Sicis skills, a company from Ravenna specialized in the art of combining tiny colored pieces. And it is no coincidence that this skill is developed in a city that houses some of the most beautiful and important mosaics in the world. Given this, here is the new effort of Sicis: the Arabesque set. It is a pair of earrings and a ring, which whit the micromosaic design have an oriental echo. The micromosaic, supported by a set of white gold, is also embellished with lines of white diamonds and a red rubies. The same composition is repeated for ring and hanging earrings, which use rubies at the height of the closure. In this case the geometric drop shape is made with diamonds, which is superimposed on the jewel: it’s a movable set and therefore oscillates according to the movements of the wearer’s body. This is why the Austrian Maison has designed a collection dedicated to the day of lovers. “Love triumphs over everything, and love has many different facets. Swarovski is proud to be a spokesperson for diversity and every possible expression of love. Therefore, in addition to the traditional heart, this collection proposes new symbols of love”, says the creative director, Nathalie Colin. “The inspiration came from a knot that, in addition to symbolizing a lasting commitment, also has a seductive aspect. The collection consists of a rigid bracelet with a bold style, an enchanting double ring and many other jewels capable of fulfilling every wish. Every creation contains in itself messages of diversity and freedom to love that are very important for me and for everyone else”.

The sphere is a volume defined as a geometric solid generated by the rotation of a semicircle around its diameter. But this cold definition hides a whole world of symbologies: the sphere resting on the hands of kings and emperors, indicating their power over the world, a symbol of perfection. But also a tool to play, to decorate a Christmas tree and, as all jewelry lovers know, also a perfect volume used for rings, necklaces or bracelets. Now the spheres used by jewelers are joined by the Boules collection by Vendorafa Lombardi, a company active in Valenza since 1951 and specialized in manual processing such as hammering, engraving and embossing. The Boules collection, in fact, is made with hammered gold balls, which recall the effect of blown glass bubbles. If in spring nature re-blossoms, which plant is more symbolic of the rose? And which flower is more romantic than a wild rose? Last question: what is the flower that the English are most fond of? The answer is always the same: the rose is the flower that is best matched to the new season. With (perhaps) these considerations in mind, Giovanni Raspini (who recently opened a shop in London) still elaborates his version of silver jewelry, but with the addition of careful processing and, sometimes, of stones. The Wild Rose collection, for example, uses burnished silver and pink opal: a fully successful contrast. The natural stone is used with a cabochon cut in two dimensions and is well suited to the floral theme of the collection, which includes two different necklaces, bracelets, two types of earrings and a ring. Last year the jewels won an International Palladio Award as Best Italian Brand Collection. So why not propose an encore of the Siracusa collection? This is how Antonini, a Milanese Maison active since 1919, among other innovations of VincenzaOro January decided to propose new pieces of the line dedicated to the Sicilian city, as well country of Archimedes and Euclid.
