Sotheby’s talks about the Cartier panther

Do you like valuable jewels with a long history behind them? Sotheby’s has organized an event in Bologna that you can’t miss. It is entitled “The charm of Cartier, exceptional jewels of the 20th century”. Daniela Mascetti, Sotheby’s specialist for the jewelry sector of the Geneva and London offices and member of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, is preparing for a high-profile reading, dedicated to the Parisian maison and its production from the 19th century until now. In particular, to the Cartier jewels signed in the early decades of the 20th century in Art Deco style and of the 1950s. The highlight of this latter period is the panther commissioned by the Duke of Windsor as a gift to his wife. The three-dimensional feline version then opened the doors of Cartier to the world of the jet set. Divas such as Gloria Swanson, Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor were among the most famous buyers or, better yet, recipients of gifts with many zeros. As for the diamond Richard Burton gave to Liz Taylor of 69.42 carats. Not being able to own them, they can at least be evoked at the event in Bologna.
