Making jewelry is an art, so it is not surprising that Cartier has dedicated space and energy to the talents of painting and sculpture. Thirty years have passed since October 20, 1984, when the French fashion house inaugurated the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. The Fondation Cartier has hosted around a hundred exhibitions and commissioned more than 800 works. Now that it is reaching its third decade, it is celebrating the anniversary with Mémoires Vives, a festival that will run from May 10 to September 21. Mémoires Vives, or living memories, includes painting, design, photography, film, art, folk, video, sculpture, music, performance: a summary of the activities of these 30 years. The exhibition will retrace the history of the Fondation through the display of particularly significant pieces that are part of the permanent collection.
