Jewelry for Afghan women. Or, more precisely, for Women for Afghan Women, an organization that aims to help women in the country of the Taliban. The jewels sold at the auction are made available by 25 independent British jewelers. The auction was organized and led by Rosie Lillis Communications, and aims to raise funds to provide urgent resources, shelter and assistance to women and children, now even more vulnerable. The jewels are sold at affordable prices, between 270 and 1,570 pounds, with the aim of engaging the largest number of people.

It would be unfair to describe Theo Fennell as an extravagant designer. Of course, the British jeweler has a style that can bewilder who is considering to necklaces and rings as products of an immutable tradition, with styles and materials that lend themselves to only small variations. It is not the case of Theo Fennel (we have already spoken here). On the contrary, even though its rings will seem a bit ‘strange, these are the works of one of the leading jewelry designers today.

And his pieces are handcrafted and feed the collections of many fans. The design, of course, is eclectic, sometimes even bizarre, but not rely only on arouse a surprise: the idea of making the mini containers rings which conceal a subject, or rather a story, is unmatched. “The jewelry should be something emotionally involving and that improves life”, explains the designer to synthesize his philosophy. For example, in 2020 the summer solstice was set on June 20 at 9:44 pm exactly. The ancients had a rough idea of the motion of the stars, but they also knew how to locate the solstice.

As in Stonehenge, Britain, where there are two concentric circles of monoliths weighing 50 tons. The axis of the monument is astronomically oriented, with an access path at the center of which stands a boulder called heel stone (Heel Stone, also called Fryar’s Heel). The ring, in 18-karat gold, was created by British jewelry designer Theo Fennell, who is a specialist in rings with secrets, which encompass the most varied subjects. The ring of the summer solstice also has hand-engraved representations of the sun, moon and stars. A crown of diamonds surrounds a dome of blue topaz, reminiscent of the transition from night to dawn. Theo Fennell and his team took six months to make the new jewel.
