The innovations offered by technology also serve to change the creative path. As in the case of the new collection of the London designer Sarah Ho. In recent months, she says, she has also learned to draw with the iPad. Not only that: she shared her sketches of her with her on Instagram, soliciting feedback and advice. The result is called Bright Young Things, a new collection where Sarah Ho shows off all her virtuosity for jewelry.

The collection uses a wide range of colored gems, but a world of its own is built around each one, with the help of gold and enamel. According to those who know her well, the textures that characterize some pieces are a legacy of Sara Ho’s experience in the world of fashion, in her previous professional life. Another innovation is the use of a new metal alloy that combines titanium and aluminum, light but resistant materials. The metal has also been oxidized to achieve new shades. They are particularly elaborate and rich pieces also for the material used. Prices, on average, range between 11,000 and 15,000 pounds.

Sarah Ho’s Precious Rays

//

Born in Macau, Chinese name, Western appearance. And she lives and works in London. But Sarah Ho‘s origins would not be important were it not for her jewels to boast that aesthetic delicacy that is often a heritage of those born in the Far East. Nothing to do, however, with that type of Chinese jewelry, even of high quality, which are infused with the country’s elaborate goldsmith tradition, perhaps in the shape of a dragon. Sarah Ho, on the other hand, chose the western path to her high jewelry, with the creative and geometric use of rare pearls, precious stones and diamonds. The jewels are created starting from a colorful sketch that she paints herself, for example the large sunburst earrings or rings from the Zelda collection, one of her latest works.

In her bio she explains that her interest in jewelry is inspired by the jewelry collections of the iconic women in her family. In any case, her passion was cultivated in a professional way, with the gemmology studio in Antwerp, which was followed by the launch, in 2006, of her company based in the Mayfair district of London. Her ethical approach to the choice of materials often leads her to use stones and pearls mounted on antique and vintage jewelry, minimizing the carbon footprint. Of course, the other stones also follow the same environmental and ethical standards.

A flower for Sarah Ho

The Wisteria collection by Sarah Ho, dedicated to the wisteria flower ♦
Wisteria is a kind of climber plant of the leguminous family. The name is in honor of the American Gaspare Wistar (1761-1818). The plant is of Eastern origin and is still highly appreciated in China and Japan. Flowers represent longevity and grace and are used in Feng Shui because they symbolize honor and respect. Maybe this is why the London-based designer Sarah Ho has dedicated to wisteria flowers her new collection. Wisteria collection includes a series of very colorful rings and earrings. You could define pop, even this one it’s a style loved in the East. The bright lilac flowers of wisteria, in the Wisteria collection, turn red, orange, and blue.

Sarah Ho loves red

Sarah Ho comes back to China and presents a ruby collection with Kimberlite ♦ ︎
From China with love, and return. Sarah Ho was born in Hong Kong, grew up in Macau and moved to London, where he became one of the trendiest and most innovative designers. Now, however, she returned to China, in Beijing, to present 12 jewels made with Kimberlite Diamonds, the Harmony collection. In Baselworld it was been anticipating the project, now completed. The collection is inspired by the red color, which in the East is considered lucky.
The jewels are then made with the use of large, lively rubies, next to diamonds: the stones form the peony flower, another symbol in China. But not only: Kimberlite emphasizes how this collection is also in perfect accord with Taoism, the Chinese philosophy that bases the balance of the world through the concepts of yin and yang. In this case, represented by the relationship between the different stones and jewelery volumes, which have a sufficiently elaborate look for the oriental taste. Presented in the Forbidden City, the collection also has some price that may seem prohibitive, such as earrings of over £ 44,000. In perfect balance yin and yang, though. Alessia Mongrando

Sarah Ho among the peach blossoms

La collection Hidden Garden de Sarah Ho, y compris le jade, les diamants et les couleurs pastel.
She was born in Hong Kong, she grew up in Macau, but she works in London: a brief history of Sarah’s life stages it can already indicate what is the difference from other designers. A life balanced between East and West could only reflect a capacity to go beyond the fences, cages where they often end designers’ ideas. A VicenzaOro January, Sarah was present in the area dedicated to 12 excellent authors of the new jewelry. That, in her case is an artistic construction of a building with elements of historic architecture. As in those children’s games where you use columns, capitals and pediments to build fancy palaces, Sarah chose  elements of Art Deco and Viennese design of the early twentieth century to design her small precious works. In Vicenza, for example, Sarah has presented the Hidden Garden, a collection that includes four jewels of Persian Suite, inspired by the botanical illustrations of peach blossoms. One of the most beloved flowers in the East, not by chance, but there’s not mannerisms in her style. Jade, pearl and pastel colors are the blended and sensitive elements of a perfect union between East and West. Lavinia Andorno

In VicenzaOro the design wins

The Design Room in VicenzaOro January 12 outstanding authors of tomorrow’s jewelry.
One of the best innovations of VicenzaOro January edition was the introduction of the Design Room. While some traditional jewelry are missed and don’t are come back at the fair (for example, historical brands like Chimento or Verdi Gioielli), there are new characters that are climbing, successfully, in the world of jewelry. Often, however, they do not have a consolidated organizational structure behind on which to rely. VicenzaOro thought so in an area with all their spaces organized in a simple and recognizable, at an affordable price. The initiative is excellent. For visitors, who were able to bring designers who would otherwise have followed from afar, and designers that have landed in the crucible of Vicenza, since the homogeneity of Design Room (as it was called the space inside the Icon pavilion), it made it more interesting the comparison. Were 12 international designers, young but already established (one of them, Nikos Koulis, also won one of the awards Palladio), who were invited: Netali Nissim, Federica Rector and Qayten (Italy), Rodney Rayner, Sarah and I Zara Simon (UK), Nikos Koulis (Greece), Magerit (Spain), Daniela Villegas and Sutra (USA), Fernando Jorge (Brazil), Elie Top (France). Experiment, hopefully, to be repeated. Giulia Netrese
