Nina Runsdorf, one of the most respected luxury brands in the US, started making jewelry. She started with silver working in the kitchen of her parents’ farm in upstate New York when she was 11. As an adult, she also worked as a designer for Ralph Lauren and Banana Republic, before embarking on the path of jewelry. One of her trademarks is The Flip Ring, a ring featuring a pendant composed of a pear-shaped gem. Her new collection is called Tree Opals and uses a rare mineralized wood, 15 million years old, rendered into brilliant opals, along with diamonds and rose gold.

But how can a small luxury jewelry brand survive the covid tsunami? Boutiques closed for months, distribution rests in crisis, customers closed at home … Yet the Nina Runsdorf brand in New York is an example of how you can reorganize your business. The designer, who in 2021 celebrates her Maison’s 15 years of activity, has focused on digital. And she has appointed Anne Muhlethaler, founder of the consulting firm Out of the Clouds and former communications manager of Christian Louboutin, as a consultant.

The consultant, who is based in Geneva, has helped the brand to invest heavily in social and e-commerce. In-store appointments have been replaced by video appointments on Zoom. In short: the path chosen was to take care of the website and online presence with the same attention that is normally reserved for the boutique. The cure worked.

Muzo emeralds for ten women designers

Every year Muzo, which manages the most famous Colombian emerald mine in the world, involves some designers in the design of jewelry with the most desired green gem in the world. Muzo’s goal is to raise awareness and emphasize the quality of emeralds not only for rings, earrings or necklaces with the classic shape, but also for new jewelry, made by designers who love to innovate. This year, however, Muzo changed the rules and reserved the collaboration for a group of entirely female designers. These are Colette, Harwell Godfrey, Jenna Blake, Katherine Jetter, Loren Nicole, Michelle Fantaci, Nina Runsdorf, Robinson Pelham, Silvia Furmanovich and Little Sister.

The designers who adhered to Muzo’s idea have therefore created a series of high quality jewelry, often surprising and innovative, including cabochon emeralds, emerald pearls and, of course, gems in the classic rectangular cut. The jewels were then presented on Moda Operandi.

The new colorful jewels by Nina Runsdorf, a refined designer from New York and a citizen of the world ♦ ︎

A new road, a revision or simply the desire to change something. All jewelers have their own style, a way of interpreting their creations. But sometimes they look at their work with another eye. And that’s when they decide to make changes. Nina Runsdorf, for example, has for years been famous for her diamond jewelry, perhaps with unusual cuts. Now, however, the designer has decided to color her life and jewelry collections with gems like emeralds, opals, spessartite, sapphires, topaz and iolite. New colors, new jewels, but without giving up their flip rings, rings with pendant that have always been the iconic jewel of the designer.

Born and raised in New York, Nina Runsdorf launched her first collection in 2005, but her first jewelry line designed it at the age of 12. Since then she has never stopped, even if the first steps were in the fashion world. In 2009, during a trip to India, she discovered colored diamonds and antique cuts. She opened a showroom on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but she distributes her jewels in the rest of the world via a network of trusted retailers, or online. Her turning point as a designer seems to have been much appreciated. Lavinia Andorno

Nina Runsdorf, New York City

Classic but modern jewelery, signed by newyorker Nina Runsdorf ♦ ︎
Nina Runsdorf launched her first collection in New York in 2005. But she had already gained experience with the jewelery industry. This previous experience has given her an edge: knowledge of precious stones, metals, working techniques. But the first contact with jewels has in his mother’s kitchen, he had, where he had set up a small desk devoted to crafted pieces at home. She then went straight to the top with his trademark Nsr.
Today Nina, a New York native, lives in Manhattan, and she is one of the most famous American jewelery designers. Next to the high-end jewelery line, he also launched the Silver Skin & Stone collection for the youngest, perhaps inspired by the wishes of his two daughters. The rest of the jewelery is, however, destined for a more demanding audience: a sapphire and diamond bracelet, for example, costs $ 42,000. Cosimo Muzzano

And if every year, there is great expectation to find out the names of the winners of the 13 categories in the competition, announced at the end of the event, it may happen that an exhibitor receives an award from competitor organization. In fact, the brand founded by an American family of Burmese origin, Omi Privé, was tribute of the JCK Jewelers Choice Awards, foe the category of rings over $ 10,000 for a jewel with a black opal oval Lightning Ridge, 4.33 carats, surrounded by blue sapphires and tsavorites. The ring costing $ 26,000 was already sold but if you want to see other opals that stand out for the beauty of the stone or the originality or the elegance of the setting, here a selection of those featured at the Couture Show.
