GemGèneve preview in New York: here are the first jewels presented to the media ♦

Countdown to GemGenève, the elite fair which will open on May 9, in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was previewed in New York: a non-random choice, aimed at increasing media interest even overseas.

GemGèneve is also an opportunity for vintage jewelry lovers. In New York, for example, some pieces were shown at the Geneva event: a Victorian necklace with sapphires and diamond fringes by Gros Diffusion, a double-necked chain with two pendants by the Art Nouveau master , Rene Lalique, dated about 1895, also by Gros Diffusion. Composed of intricate enameled bonds, with a neo-Renaissance flavor, the initials E and M are intertwined on the necklace, and set with amethysts and pearls, the chain, two necklaces, has an aristocratic origin. Originally it belonged to Count Edmond de Pourtales and his wife Melanie de Pourtales.

The Art Deco style, and in particular Orientalism, was represented by a magnificent enamelled gold cigarette case, made by the Parisian master of jewelry, Lacloche Frères, around 1925, by the New York retailer, Palais Royal. The scene depicts a Geisha, set in a Japanese landscape, which tells Lacloche’s specialty in creating orientalist-style boxes.

Another vintage jewel was shown at the preview by the New York antique jewelry merchant, Pat Saling: a coral beaded sautoir, with a multi-gem center with a lion’s head inspired by the African mask, made by Cartier, London, 1975 for Antonio O. Fernandez, diplomat, businessman and passionate collector. But the preview was even richer: the appointment of GemGèneve promises well, we’ll see.

Sotheby’s crowns the Serpenti necklace

//

Bulgari Serpenti necklace was the most requested piece at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York ♦ ︎

The Magnificent Jewels spring auctions seem like a ping-pong game among the big auction houses. The one organized by Sotheby’s in New York, for example, has shown strong interest in antique and contemporary jewelry and pieces by Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Harry Winston, but also for colored and white diamonds. The sale, which also included fine jewelry, totaled $ 21.5 million.

The timeless appeal of rare designer jewelry has been reaffirmed in New York with the masterpieces of Bulgari, Tiffany & Co. and Cartier, created over a century, capturing the attention of international collectors. It was exciting to beat these objects of great interest and to see that the attention was translated into a so lively relaunch contest.
Gary Schuler, President of Sotheby’s Jewelry Division

The eyes were on the Serpenti necklace made of diamonds by Bulgari, which reached 920,000 dollars (halfway through the estimate of 800,000-1,000,000 dollars). The jewel is composed of 260 carats of diamonds. Among the period jewels, the Pendeloque brooch with diamonds, corals, emeralds and beads was also highly appreciated, sold for $ 824,000, more than double the highest estimate (350,000). The shape of the brooch is supple: originally it was intended to cover the shoulder. But she was inspired by the Indian sarpech, a turban pin that hangs like a tassel between her eyebrows. Moreover, the graphic geometry of the piece as a whole is strongly architectural: the triangular projections of coral and diamonds evoke the winged roofs of the Far East pagodas, prefiguring at the same time the iconic Chrysler Building in New York.

The auction house also signals the outcome for a set that includes rare sautoir in enamel and diamonds and a pair of Tiffany & Co earrings, which were sold to an online bidder for $ 500,000 (maximum estimate of 300,000). Designed by the great American jeweler Paulding Farnham, this set was shown for the first time at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, which celebrated the centenary of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. At the time, Farnham was the main designer of Tiffany & Co and the jewelry director, responsible for famous designs including his acclaimed orchids series and the Belmont Stakes Trophy. The necklace and earrings presented in the auction are embellished with large rose-cut diamonds framed by antique European diamonds and single-cut diamonds. Paulding Farnham’s works rarely appear on the market but some important pieces have entered private collections and museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Cooper Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The half million dollar Zip

////

Diamonds and period jewels like the Zip necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels: here are the results of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York ♦ ︎

A ring with two blue diamonds of 6.7 million dollars. It is the price realized for the most prominent piece of the Magnificent Jewels auction organized by Christie’s in New York. A sign that colored diamonds are still popular, even if the price did not reach the maximum estimate, which was 8 million dollars.

On the other hand, diamonds were still the most requested pieces. A rectangular-cut diamond of 16.33 carats, on platinum and 14-carat gold from Tiffany & Co was beaten to 1.6 million, another marquise-cut diamond ring of 16.69 carats totaled slightly less, 1.45 million, and an oval cut rose diamond ring was purchased for 1.4 million. Other stones have found buyers for figures of just under a million dollars.

The outcome of the sale of jewelry is interesting. The highest price was obtained by a Zip necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels: estimated for a maximum of 200,000 dollars, the piece was more than double: 483,000 green tickets. Instead, the diamond and sapphire bracelet sold for $ 435,000 respected the forecast. The sapphire has also won acclaim for a ring of Bulgari beaten at $ 375,000. And always of the Roman Maison, a multigemma necklace has found a buyer for $ 375,000. Federico Graglia

Magnificent Jewels in New York with Christie’s: here are the most interesting pieces for sale at auction ♦ ︎

As always, as it was and as it will be, the Magnificent Jewels auctions hide pieces that make jewelry lovers go crazy. There is no need for some diamonds in the catalog to add a record to the list of more expensive gems. Jewels and exceptional stones, however, are not lacking at the auction on 16 April in New York organized by Christie’s. In short, the Magnificent Jewels rarely disappoint.
The auction (285 lots) includes a selection of colorless diamonds, colored diamonds and precious stones, along with important signed pieces by Bulgari, Cartier, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels.

The king of the sale should be the Twin-Stone Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring of 3.06 and 2.61 carats, two stones valued between 6 and 8 million dollars.

There are also three D-colored diamonds of over 15 carats, including a ring with marquise-cut diamonds of 16.69 carats, color D, type IIa, potentially internally flawless, from the Elizabeth Stafford collection (rated between 1.2 and 1.8 million).

Among the colored diamonds to report also a Fancy Pink Diamond Ring of 6.11 carats (1.2-1.5 million), a pair of Fancy Deep Yellow Diamond earrings of 7.55 and 7.51 carats, a Fancy Intense Yellow Diamond Ring of 37.65 carats and a pendant with an intense yellow diamond of 35.06 carats.

In addition to large stones, the catalog includes significant signed pieces by Bulgari, Cartier, Harry Winston, Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels. In the collection of Florence and Herbert Irving there are, for example, a Burmese ring with 9.73 carat rubies and diamonds by Harry Winston, a sapphire from Madagascar and a diamond ring of 16.88 carats from Bulgari, a sapphire necklace and diamonds by Bulgari.
From the collection of Jean Tailer come a brooch in the shape of a dolphin with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and gold by Jean Schulmberger for Tiffany & Co. and a 18.36 carat diamond ring, J Color, VS2, by Cartier. Federico Graglia

The sustainable luxury by Monique Péan

//

The Atelier collection by Monique Pean, diamonds with rare cuts, such as hexagon, triangle, waterfall, rose. With guaranteed environmental sustainability

In New York, two things go together: luxury and sustainable luxury. Two concepts that Monique Péan, with windows on 7th Avenue, is well aware. Look, for example, the necklace with dinosaur’s bone, agate, citrine and white 18 carat gold, but recycled. A unique piece that the modest price of $ 64,160 is a lot of trend. On the other hand, in the US city and beyond, Monique Péan is known for its high-end jewelry, expensive, but with the right characteristics to be accepted also by models and stars of music and cinema worried that the jewels may have an origin that disturbs the environment and working conditions. The designer, who was born in Washington and has a degree in philosophy, she opened his jewelry company socially responsible and sustainable in 2006. In 2009, she was one of the recipients of the prestigious award / CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund. More recently, she has received the award from Wallpaper magazine for Best Desktop Jewellery.

The style of jewelry is very modern and innovative: the pieces are handmade by master craftsmen in New York using materials purchased from Fairtrade. The proceeds from the sale of jewelry in Europe contributes, is keen to stress the designer, global philanthropic organizations that provide drinking water and basic sanitation services to people in developing countries. Think about this when you read the prices reported under the captions of the pictures. Rudy Serra

Faraone Mennella has conquered New York

The Faraone Mennella jewels have won New York, starting from Naples.

Starting from Italy, from Naples, to seek his fortune in the United States. It is a story told many times. In a few cases, however, it was fortunate enough as to Roberto Faraone Mennella and Amedeo Scognamiglio. Suffice it to say that after 15 years the brand Faraone Mennella is fully recognized among those of fine jewelry, with headquarters on Fifth Avenue, in New York.

Collezione Gocce, anello in oro rosa
Collezione Gocce, anello in oro rosa

They, who also founded the brand Amedeo, specializing in revisited cameo (we talked about here), they have achieved success with a simple recipe, but effective: focus on high quality and identify Faraone Mennella jewelry to a specific target customers, those who attend Capri, or Miami, Saint Barts. Furthermore, Amadeo has behind him a family tradition in jewelry, in Torre del Greco, while Roberto studied design at Parsons School. In short, the team has worked well, starting with an investment of just $ 5,000 apiece. Knowing Patricia Field, costume designer of the TV series Sex and the City is been another point in their favor. The style: rich, of course, but also with a grace that was affected by the great Italian goldsmith tradition, Neapolitan in particular. Only, adapted to the tastes of American women. Here are some examples of their work. Alessia Mongrando

Rhapsody in blue for Christie’s

/

A blue diamond on Bulgari’s ring was the king of Christie’s auction in New York ♦ ︎

A ring signed Bulgari with a cushion cut diamond, Fancy Vivid Blue of 8.08 carats and, on its sides, two diamonds with a triangular cut, on platinum. A $ 18.3 million Christmas gift, probably a price not even Santa Claus could afford. Yet the ring was sold at the last auction of December organized by Christie’s in New York. Perhaps the Christmas atmosphere pushed the buyers: the total sales exceeded 69 million dollars. In particular, the attention of collectors and investors has focused on colored diamonds.

For example, a rare 15.56-carat heart-shaped pink diamond set in a pendant was sold for $ 9.5 million.

Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring di 8,08 carati da Bulgari (stima 13-18 milioni di dollari)
Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring di 8,08 carati da Bulgari

The fancy yellow 37.87 carat and 36.80 carat diamond earrings, also called Foxfire Diamonds, were also very popular: they are practically two giants mined in Canada by Rio Tinto, and they have been sold for 1.5 million. The color of another 8-carat oval cut diamond mounted on a ring is also yellow, made in 1925 by Gillot & Co, sold for 1.3 million. A ring with a colorless diamond of 28.7 carats, a square cut, has exceeded 2 million. Among the pieces sold and with greater appeal there is undoubtedly a necklace that can be transformed into a tiara. It is made of aquamarines and made by Cartier in 1925: it was sold for 828,500 dollars: this is also an excellent Christmas present. Federico Graglia

At the Met in New York the history of jewels

An exhibition at the Met in New York tells the history and art of jewelry ♦ ︎

Are you planning a trip to New York or, if you are lucky, live in the most famous city in America? Do you love jewels? Then mark your date on your calendar: November 12, 2018. It is the day when a major exhibition on jewelry is inaugurated. History, meaning, styles: the exhibition, entitled Jewelry: The Body Transformed, is organized at the Met and brings together about 230 objects of all kinds. Ethnic, fashionable, luxurious created between 2600 BC and today: earrings, brooches, belts, necklaces, rings, but also sculptures, paintings, prints and photographs. The exhibition is scheduled until 12 November 2019. The jewel, in fact, seems to be the common denominator of all cultures and of any people. From those who in ancient Egypt served to accompany a powerful man in the hereafter, to those who have become status symbols, to jewels that are combined with a spiritual meaning. For those who like to know better what they wear, the exhibition is an interesting opportunity. Margherita Donato

The gems seen closely by Paolo Costagli

Stones with vivid colors, but also simple gold jewelery: the design of Paolo Costagli, from Florence to New York.

Florence, 1966: Paolo Costagli born of Venetian parents. New York, 2016:Paolo Costagli is awarded by InDesign Award for his Eternity collection. What happened in the meantime? Many things. The Italian designer has left Florence and moved to California, where he studied at the Gemological Institute of America. Not only. It decided to deepen their knowledge of the stones directly in the mines of Colombia.

Anello con tormalina menta e tanzanite su oro bianco
Anello con tormalina menta e tanzanite su oro bianco

The memories of the Renaissance Italian art combined with the experience expert gemologist has transformed Paolo Costagli in a jeweler designer based in New York that offers unique pieces that combine the two worlds: the colors of gems, that are searched with patience and dedication, more an architecture that surrounds precious stones. Peridot, citrines, amethysts, tourmalines, garnets, as well as diamonds and rubies, are the basis of its simple compositions, but unmistakable. His shop is in Medison Avenue and the prices of its jewels are in line with what you can expect. The capsule collection Eternity, for example, is composed of a series of rings with prices ranging from 6000 to $ 49,000. But the more simple jewelry lines, only in gold, have a much lower cost. The blue diamond that amazes New York

/

An 18 million dollar blue diamond and masterpieces of design among the 370 pieces at auction in New York with Christie’s ♦ ︎

A rare blue diamond, jewelry by Suzanne Belperron, René Boivin, Bulgari, Cartier, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels: the Christie’s auction is scheduled for December 5 in New York, accompanied by a simultaneous online auction from 28 November to 7 December.

Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring di 8,08 carati da Bulgari (stima 13-18 milioni di dollari)

The top piece should be a sensational Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring of 8.08 carats from Bulgari (estimate 13-18 million dollars). According to Christie’s, this stone can be counted among the best blue diamonds ever on the market. But among the 370 lots for sale, there are also other stones of great appeal: a necklace with a heart-shaped pink diamond of 15.56 carats (estimate 9.5-12 million) and a ring with yellow diamond Art Déco Fancy Vivid of 8.09 carats, by Gillot & Co. (estimate: 900.000-1.200.000). Do not miss the classic colorless stones, such as the ring with diamond D classified 28.70 carats, VVS2 purity, type IIa, which comes from the heritage of financier Lee Vandervelde, who died last March: in this case the sale of jewelry will go to benefit of the Children’s Hospital and Children’s Institute in Los Angeles (estimate: 1,500,000-2,500,000).

Next to the super diamonds, for the design lovers Christie’s auction also offers a bracelet, Diamond Tube, by Suzanne Belperron (estimate 200-300.000 dollars).

The bracelet has recently been rediscovered as the important piece that launched the partnership of Belperron and Herz jewelry in 1948. Those who love vintage jewelry, there are also Art Déco pieces by Cartier, a bracelet of coral, enamel and diamonds by Donald Claflin for Tiffany & Co. (100,000-150,000) and Beribboned Heart, a heart-shaped enamel diamond and diamonds bracelet by René Boivin, which belonged to the Andy Warhol collection.

Among the contemporary pieces, in the foreground there are the earrings with diamonds and titanium, the Etcetera earrings (300.000-500.000) and the earrings with Colombian emeralds, pearls and diamonds of Bhagat ($ 150.000-250.000).

To complete the sale there is also an exceptional selection of Kashmir sapphires including Kashmir Sapphire and Diamond Earrings (400,000-600,000) and a Belle Époque Kashmir Sapphire and Diamond Ring of 6.28 carats ($ 250.000-350.000).

New jewels in the treasure of Marie-Antoinette

The number of jewels owned by Maria-Antoinette at the auction of Sotheby’s rises to ten ♦ ︎

The possibility of buying a piece of History together with a piece of jewelry is expanded. As we have already written, on November 14th, in Geneva, Sotheby’s sells the jewels that belonged to Marie-Antoinette, the decapitated queen of France with her husband, King Louis XVI, during the French Revolution. They are not only precious jewels, but they bear witness to an exceptional piece of Human History and, therefore, expectations are high. After the presentation in June, however, there are some news: the pieces attributed to the queen have risen to ten.

Sotheby’s, in fact, has revealed that in the sales catalog have been added other pieces belonging to Marie Antoinette, including a pair of earrings with natural pearls and diamonds (estimate between 200,000 and 300,000 dollars).

Orecchini di perle naturali posseduti da Maria Antonietta

Not only that: a necklace of six-strand pearls has an unaltered closure that was part of the royal collection. The closure of noble origins includes five large and 18 small natural pearls and, originally, it was used for a bracelet of natural pearls with six threads. The necklace was then commissioned by the Bourbon-Parma family and made with cultured pearls. Five other diamond jewels are linked to Marie-Antoinette, like the late 18th century diamond brooch with a yellow diamond. The queen of France had also a double-bow brooch, but the hanging yellow diamond seems to have been added later. They are the descendants of Marie Antoinette, however, who probably made a diamond ring with the portrait of the queen.

If you are fond of antique jewelry with blue blood know that there are also jewels belonging to King Charles X (1757-1836), the last king of France.

For example, it was own by Charles X’s the diamond diadem. The stones came from a badge of the Royal Order of the Holy Spirit, a French chivalric order founded by King Henry III in 1578, which was owned by Charles X, brother-in-law of Marie Antoinette. The diamonds were then transferred to Robert I, Duke of Parma (1848-1907). The tiara was created using precious stones around 1912 for the Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria (1882-1940) by the famous Vienna jeweler Hübner: the flowers on the tiara can be detached and worn separately as brooches.
Another fascinating piece that was added to the jewelry auction is an emblem of the Order of the Golden Fleece belonging to Louis Antoine of Bourbon, duke of Angoulême (1775-1844), who married the daughter of Marie Antoinette, his cousin . The Order of the Golden Fleece has long been considered the most prestigious and exclusive order of chivalry in the world. Louis Antoine received the badge following his participation in the Spanish expedition of 1823. Under a large white diamond, the badge shows the traditional French royal symbol, the orifiamma, represented by a central sapphire and surrounded by flames composed of rubies. Federico Graglia

A sweet chaos for Garavelli

/

The sweet chaos of the Garavelli collection is extended with a new rose gold bracelet ♦ ︎

Life is made of ups and downs. But not only: what happens is largely unpredictable. In short, we live immersed in a confidential chaos. From these considerations, which seem to have come from a pre-Socratic philosophy book, Elisabetta Molina, the heir and spirit of the historic Maison Garavelli, she started when she first thought of jewels that condensed her thoughts. The chaotic case, in fact, is also beauty, variety, movement. Like the A Little Chaos collection, which includes the bracelet that in 2017 won a Couture Award.

Now Garavelli at the Ja New York presents an evolution of that bracelet.

Garavelli, Little Chaos collection, rose gold and diamonds cuff

The winning Little Chaos bracelet in Las Vegas was made of black gold and diamonds, thanks to a delicate nanoceramic technique. It is a system that allows to cover the surface of the jewel with microfilm, which, once deposited, increases or modifies some characteristics of the jewel without having to replace the basic material used. The one presented by Garavelli at the New York event, however, maintains the same form factor, but is made of 18-carat rose gold and white diamonds, which follows a yellow gold version seen at VicenzaOro. A sweeter chaos, in short.

Artist’s jewelery in glass

In New York an exhibition organized by Adornment with glass jewels created by artists ♦ ︎

Glass is not precious, unless it becomes a jewel. This is witnessed by Adornment, a company that deals with projects dedicated to contemporary art jewels, which from 12 to 17 November organized for the occasion of the New York City Jewelry Week, a special edition of Cutting Edge. It is a design exhibition and search for glass jewelry, held in the spaces of R & Company (64 White Street). The exhibition is called Cutting Edge – Contemporary Glass Jewelry and is dedicated to the creations of artists and designers who use glass as a vehicle for expression.

Rings and necklaces of creative glass are seen with the eyes of Paolo Marcolongo, Biba Schutz and Agustina Ros, as well as pieces made by the special guest and ambassador in the field of Linda MacNeil glass jewelery.

The selection aims to provide an unusual and avant-garde perspective on glass jewels, an affirmation of the identity of a research that today is increasingly independent, even if still connected to tradition. Various processes and techniques are used, then customized by each of the creators through experimental techniques: from the processing of Murano glass, to the processing of hand-blown borosilicate glass; from the union and mixing of different chemical components, to the combined processing of glass and metals.

In Linda MacNeil’s jewelery, for example, metals (both precious and non-precious) and glass have equal dignity and functionality.

The jewels of Tefaf in New York

The Tefaf returns to New York for the Fall with so many exceptional jewels ♦ ︎

The Tefaf is back in New York, the great event dedicated to design, antiques and precious objects, like jewels. Born in Maastricht, the fair has long since expanded its appointments with two events in the American city, in spring and autumn (October 27-31 in 2018). The reason is clear: New York offers the ideal setting in America for a fair like Tefaf, which remains the benchmark for the European market. In short, it is a point of arrival for traders and lovers of beauty, from painting (with works until 1920) to jewelry, but in this case it is not only vintage.

At Tefaf in New York there are pieces of Maison like Cartier, Otto Jakob, Hemmerle or designers like Suzanne Belperron and René Lalique.

In addition to the commercial aspect, cultural events are also scheduled at Tefaf, such as a conference on Sunday, October 28th, which focuses on Men and Jewelry: does an earring have gender? Why, in short, are the jewels in the West seen so often as a feminine art form? Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Museum prepares an exhibition entitled Jewelry: The Body Transformed. In short, for those who happen in New York it is an opportunity to consider the jewels also from a cultural point of view. Margherita Donato

Harry Winston, hymn to New York

///

The city of New York turns into a sparkling collection of other jewelry with Harry Winston ♦ ︎

New York, New York: in addition to being the title of the famous song, the American city was the subject of films, novels and works of art. And now also a collection of fine jewelry. New York is the protagonist of the 32-piece collection signed by Harry Winston, one of the jewelers that most identifies with the city.

The jewels of the New York collection are inspired by architecture, but also by sounds and panoramas of the city.

But be careful: do not think about finding jewels with icons that are so popular with tourists, like the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. New York is seen, instead, through situations and details related to the history or taste of the founder of the Maison: for example, the eagles of cast iron that in the early twentieth century were used as a frieze for street lamps are transformed into jewels of the Eagle line, with shape of wings made up of diamonds. Throughout the collection there are eight different lines of jewels.

City Lights is obviously inspired by the bright lights of Broadway with jewels that use precious stones: emeralds, rubies, sapphires.

Brownstone alludes to the sandstone used in the Upper West Side, the neighborhood where Winston was born, and in this case the jewels have angular baguette diamonds arranged in a sparkling pendant necklace and chandelier pendent earrings. The turquoise and sapphire blue sugar pan version of each (also available in blue and sapphire yellow) winks at the Art Deco architecture found elsewhere in the city. Or the 718 line, which is the street number of Fifth Avenue where the Harry Winston flagship store is located. In short, it is a way to visit the city certainly fascinating. Giulia Netrese

Nirav Modi at auction

After the bankruptcy, Nirav Modi jewels will be auctioned in New York ♦

Good news for those who can invest a few thousand dollars or euros for a high quality jewelry. It’s coming an auction of jewels now in the coffers of the former companies of Nirav Modi, the Indian jeweler who is accused of having defrauded something like a couple of billions of dollars. The first live auction is scheduled for September 26 in New York. Two other jewelry and diamond auctions are scheduled for next week, October 3 and 4, also in New York.
We have already told the story, which for the truth seems incredible (who knows if Hollywood will turn it into a film) by Nirav Modi, who at the moment managed to escape the Indian judges who want to lock him up.

Hundreds of precious jewels will now be auctioned.

The trustee that now manages the companies once owned by Nirav Modi, therefore, will put the stock and intellectual property of two companies: Firestar Diamond and Fantasy, now bankrupt. Another company, Unique Designs, has already bought jewelry with diamonds and loose stones, while what is being sold at the end of the month is what remains in the vault of Firestar and Fantasy.
These are jewels valued at 15 million, including engagement and wedding rings in 14 carat gold; diamonds set in 10-carat, 14-karat and 18-karat gold, but also fashion jewelry and loose diamonds for over $ 1 million. There are also diamonds with patented cuts, including Patriot Star and The Opulent Diamond. For info: FirestarAuction.com. Federico Graglia

The mobile secrets of Santo by Zani

The furniture jewels of the New York designer Zani Gugelmann for her brand Santo by Zani ♦ ︎

Rings that open, like those in the Renaissance that hid poison. Or pendants with moving elements, like petals that bloom and turn into crosses. The style of Zani Gugelmann, designer of New York, does not lack imagination. And she herself has an unusual life: she was a lacrosse champion, a team game popular mainly in the US and Canada, after graduating in jewelry design she worked as Pr, then she went to Peru, the mother’s original country. Finally, she is back in New York, she transforms her hobby, the jewels, into a successful profession. And he founded Santo by Zani.

Anello in oro, smalto verde e citrino
Anello in oro, smalto verde e citrino

The inspiration is that of certain jewels of the past, like those of the Victorian era.

The Alma collection, on the other hand, recalls the insidious rings used to hide poisons or messages inside them. In this case, instead, hidden is a small stone, sapphires or tourmalines. The jewels are made in New York with 18 and 14 carat gold, precious and semiprecious stones, enamel and laser engraving. Because before the craftsmanship in the realization comes the CAD design, necessary for such complex jewels, with tiny pins and hinges. Jewels to play with as well as to wear. Margherita Donato
