Hrh, an idea in a ring

Many jewels and an acronym that alludes to nobility: these are the characteristics of Hrh Jewels.

In 2005, in Beirut, was killed in an terroristic attack the country’s prime minister, Rafik Hariri: it was been one of the many episodes of a civil war that lasted 20 years. Ten years later, at the end of May 2016, the daughter of Rafik Hariri opened a high-quality jewelry. Her name is Hind and called his brand of Hrh Jewels jewelry. The name needs to be explained, because the acronym has two meanings.

In Anglo-Saxon countries, hrh refers to princes and queens. Her Royal Highness, Her Royal Highness.

In this case it means that the jewels are proposed for the king or queens, but also that the customer will be welcomed as if it were. But Hrh also are the initials of the family, as explained by the founder: Hind Rafik, and more the father’s name, Hariri. “It’s my way of paying tribute to him,” said Hind. She made it big: he opened a boutique in the Pavillons of Monte Carlo, Monaco. He debuted with two collections of major impact, plus a series of fine jewelry pieces. In addition, it wanted to give a special mark or, better, ideal, to her proposal. Her latest collection is called The Rose of hope: a reference to the ideals that should never be put in the attic. She knows something about.

The pop of Cada

Among pop culture and art: the jewels of Cada, Maison in Munich ♦ ︎

Creativity, Art, Design, Anarchy. The initials of these four words form the acronym Cada, Maison in Munich founded by Annette Kopp, a goldsmith expert, and by Herbert Kopp, with a career as a painter. The couple founded the jewelry store in 1986 and has become a meeting point for designers and creatives from the German city. Herbert Kopp used his artistic ability to conceive jewels that reflect the philosophy of the eighties and nineties, for example with the Love collection.

Thirty years later, Herbert continues to design jewelry in the studio in central Munich. They are jewels that bring together elements of pop culture or are simply variants of classical forms. Not only that: for design enthusiasts the Maison has also introduced jewelry designed by artists such as Aaron Curry, Andy Hope and Jonathan Meese.

The power of Grace Kelly’s ring

/

The story of one of the most famous rings: that of Cartier given by Prince Ranieri to Grace Kelly

History and power of a ring. The statement ring with a 10.47 carats diamond which belonged to Grace Kelly. Next January 5, in fact, will be the anniversary of the engagement of the american actress with the Prince of Monaco, Rainier. In 1956, to move the heart of the ethereal Hollywood star, at that time at the top of his career, the prince moved heaven and earth to find a stone that could impress her. In fact, the prince had before given Grace an Cartier eternity ring with ruby diamonds. Nice, but not exceptional.

The search result is the diamond mounted on platinum, emerald cut, placed on the engagement ring. A side has two smaller diamonds baguette. It is a special stone, because only diamonds perfectly free of impurities can be cut emerald: a form with only 49-50 facets glimpse more easier inclusions or impurities. In comparison, the round cut, which has 58 facets, better hiding defects. It was 1956 and Prince Rainier III offered his third meeting to Grace, and with the help of Cartier, conquered the actress. The ring, in fact, must be loved by Grace Kelly, so much so that he decided to wear it on the set of his latest film, High Society, before becoming Princess of Monaco. You can see her in these images, alongside Frank Sinatra. Federico Graglia

From Germany the Capolavoro jewels

//

Reconciling Italian lightness (aesthetics) and style with the German ability to translate ideas into German and business acumen. They were the starting points for Capolavoro, name in Italian, and jewels created in the German manufacture Inning am Ammersee, near Munich. Capolavoro was founded in 1991 by Gerhard and his wife Andrea Fritsch, who now manage the company together with their children Theresa, Florian and Tobias. The precise work of the Bavarian Maison also led to the selection among the three brands for the Best Innovative category at the Couture Design Awards in 2021.

And to think that the founder, Gerhard Fritsch, had started his career in the most traditional way: employment in a bank and a degree in economics. But, then, he was attracted by the most stimulated environment in the fashion world. He worked with the men’s fashion house Hirmer, in Munich and after graduation, he started working as a sales representative at Schoeffel Perlen, a jewelry company, which introduced him to the industry. After learning the necessary information, he launched Capolavoro, starting from scratch, first as a retailer with a small repair shop, to become an internationally recognized jewelry company.

Capolavoro uses 2-nd-Life Cycle Gold, recycled gold that is obtained through a complex process of recycling precious metals. Old gold is made reusable with a sophisticated processing cycle by the C. Hafner refinery in Pforzheim. The jewelry catalog is very large: there are egg-shaped pendants in pink gold and diamonds that cost over 42,000 euros, but also fine jewelery around a thousand euros.

Monte Carlo succulent with Zeades

//

From the Maison of bijoux Zeades a collection that is inspired by the succulent plants of Monte Carlo ♦ ︎

In 2012 the fashion jewelry ambitions welcomed a new protagonist: Zeades. It is a brand that has a story of its own: it proposes, in fact, bijoux, not only in metal but also in leather. Bracelets, above all, in a dual role of leather goods and jewelers. Danielle Devreese and Frédéric Brega invented this double soul, which also appeared at the last Baselworld.

Both architects have decided to base themselves in Monte Carlo: the principality of Monaco gives bijoux a particular, selective flavor, regardless of the materials used for bracelets and necklaces. Furthermore, Monte Carlo is also a source of inspiration. The Exotic Garden line, for example, was born by observing the succulent plants of the Exotic Garden of Monaco, and interprets extravagant plant forms. Danielle Devreese is the artistic director: in 1992 she won the Bruynseraede-De Witte Award, which selects the greatest hope every year at the Royal Academy of Belgium. Alessia Mongrando

Saskia Diez, Bavarian design

/

x

The young design of Saskia Diez and her small Maison in Munich ♦ ︎
In Munich, inside the Pinakothek der Moderne, is the Die Neue Sammlung. It is one of the most important museums of design and applied arts in Germany and in Europe. Not only that: founded in 1907, it was probably the first in the world exclusively dedicated to design. With this background behind it, Saskia Diez designs jewelry, but also other accessories, with the aim of creating something original, but also accessible. Which is then what design is intended for.

Orecchini in cristallo di rocca, indossati

Another aspect of his work is to design lightweight jewelry that does not transform the woman into a Christmas tree. Thin, but very refined volumes, without being bulky or too showy. The necklaces are long but light chains, sometime without a closure. Even prices are accessible for a young audience, the target for the designer. Saskia Diez sells throughout Europe, but also in Japan, China and the United States, a sign that its light design also appeals beyond the borders of Bavaria.

Inhorgenta also canceled

It was obvious, but now the official news has arrived: Inhorgenta Munich, which was scheduled for April 15-19, has also been canceled. Germany’s most important jewelery and watch fair has announced the elimination of the event for 2021. The cause is obvious, and what is known is not worth repeating. Inhorgenta, among other things, had already been postponed compared to the normal schedule in February. Nothing to do: the next appointment has been scheduled for 11-14 February 2022. Like other exhibition companies, Inhorgenta has also provided a digital alternative, Trendfactory, for autumn 2021.

Unfortunately, recent developments in relation to the coronavirus pandemic have not moved in the direction we were hoping for. There are still far-reaching restrictions on international travel and contacts. Furthermore, the spread of the mutated virus poses a significant risk in terms of further infection process. Even if a fair in person were possible in the first half of the year thanks to the local Munich situation, Inhorgenta Munich would not be able to live up to being a very successful international flagship event. We have therefore decided to cancel Inhorgenta Munich 2021.

Rare jewels at the Artcurial auction in Monaco

Like every year, the principality of Monaco becomes the kingdom of luxury auctions, the one organized by Artcurial. Until July 21, at the Hôtel Hermitage, jewelry auctions are scheduled, as well as men’s and women’s watch collections, a growing segment brought together under the category of Le Temps est Féminin, in addition to the Hermès Summer Collection.

As part of the jewelry auction, a selection of rare and precious stones is proposed, together with pieces signed by great Maison of Place Vendôme and other designers. For example, a Jean Fouquet necklace in aquamarine, rock crystal, platinum and white gold, a Boucheron corsage clip in gold and diamonds, a ring by René Boivin, a Cartier corsage clip from 1930 with emeralds, diamonds, sapphires and rubies.
Given the situation, Monaco and the Hotel Hermitage organized themselves with all the necessary security measures.

For the last nearly fifteen years, our presence in Monaco has grown year on year. We are looking forward to returning to the Hôtel Hermitage in July to present a week of very strong sales centred round our luxury themes of Jewellery, Fine Watches and the Hermès Summer Collection. We are delighted to announce that Artcurial Motorcars returns to Monaco this year to present a selection of classic cars at the Musée de l’automobile du Prince.

Zebrak, the best of the past

Vintage jewelry collected and offered for sale by the two Zebrak boutiques in London and the Principality of Monaco ♦
If you have a passion for antique jewelry with charm, extremely rare, that have a history, take note of this address: 139th New Bond Street, London. Or, if you are near the French Riviera, you can go to Monte Carlo, in the Principality of Monaco, at 1 Boulevard du Jardin Exotique. In both towns you will find a boutique Zebrak, company founded in 1985 by brother and sister, Adam and Tracy Zebrak. With 30 years of experience behind it, instead of designing new lines of jewelry, they have preferred to hunt for the best, in the past. They are jewels that, as good wine, improve with the passing of years, and have even more charm.

A profession that the two can do well because Adam and Tracy have a fantastic knowledge of jewelry and antiques. In recent years they have managed to put together one of the most important collections of jewelery, carefully selected. Tracy has been a member for 30 years of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and was often called by its wealthy clients for expertise on gems and jewelry. An activity that has enabled her to buy a profound experience of vintage jewelry. In Zebrak boutique, whose spirit they chose as a brand two zebras, you can find anything from vintage Cartier to rare Lalique jewelry. A small paradise for fans and collectors. Federico Graglia

Chaumet’s tiaras on exhibition

The famous Chaumet tiaras, and other jewels, on display in the Principality of Monaco ♦

La Maison Chaumet, one of the great names in jewelery, from 1780 to today has created over 2000 tiaras. For queens, aristocratic families, or simply for women who want to wear a special jewel and, of course, they are lucky enough to have a partner who gives them a tiara or a diadem. In fact, once tiaras were reserved for princesses and queens, while now they are a jewel that can be worn by all women on special occasions, such as marriage. In the art of tiara, they explain to Chaumet, everything starts with a drawing. Over the years, Chaumet’s tiaras have thus interpreted the style of romanticism, naturalism, Belle Époque and Art Déco. Now the Maison boasts 400,000 archive drawings and a Salon des Diadèmes, a showcase of Chaumet’s historical collections.

A heritage that has been traveling the world for a couple of years in an exhibition, which now arrives in the Principality of Monaco, after having passed through Beijing and Tokyo. The exhibition is called Chaumet in Majesty, Jewels of Sovereigns since 1780 and is organized at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Who wants to dream, can see up close tiaras exceptional among 250 jewels of sovereigns, some of which exposed for the first time to the public.

Who runs for Inhorgenta

Back Inhorgenta, with a thousand exhibitors and a competition that teases the brands ♦ ︎

In Munich, Inhorgenta returns (22 – 25 February), with about a thousand exhibitors coming from over 40 countries and guests from over 70 countries. For Italy, for example, there are 70 brands present, including important Maison, such as Annamaria Cammilli, Crivelli, Nanis or Marco Bicego.

Una passata edizione di Inhorgenta
Una passata edizione di Inhorgenta

Among the novelties of the 2019 edition is the renewed Inhorgenta Award, dedicated to the world of jewelry and watch design. In the race there are three candidates for each of the seven of the eight categories. A difficult selection, given that the applications for participation were 140, a record. The introduction of a new category has also contributed to the success: Design Newcomer of the Year, which seems to have ignited the interest of several exhibitors, including a jewelery store in Mauritius, the Indian Ocean islands.
In the Fine Jewelry category, for example, German producers Gellner and Hans D. Krieger and the Spanish brand Facet Barcelona were selected, while for the Design Newcomer of the Year category the selected brands are Alessa Joosten, Karin Heimberg and Gitta Geschmück. It’s suspense for the winners. Cosimo Muzzano

Jewels in Monte-Carlo with Artcurial

Artcurial jewels and diamonds july auction at the Hôtel Hermitage in Monte-Carlo ♦ ︎

Taste of the sea, taste of jewels. Artcurial, the French auction house, is organizing a sale of fine jewelery for 18 and 19 July, in Monte-Carlo, as befits the prestigious location. The auction will be held at the Hôtel Hermitage and involves the sale of about 800 pieces, including vintage and modern, of prestigious Maison with Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels, Lalique. But also Hermès, because the sale also includes some bags of the Parisian brand and some watches, selected by the founder of Colette, Sarah Andelman, and photographed by Koto Bolofo, who set some of the most prestigious jewels in an unusual context of vegetables, mushrooms, berries.
The most precious piece is, perhaps, a rivière necklace by Harry Winston, with emeralds, diamonds, on platinum and 18-karat gold, circa 1985-1990, accompanied by a certificate of SSEF certifying the origin of Colombia of emeralds. A platinum ring of Boucheron should also arouse interest, with a diamond of over 11 carats, round cut. And always in the genre, in the catalog also appears a ring with emerald cut diamond of 7 carats, color D, good overall quality.

Hemmerle still amazes

Hemmerle’s High Jewelry still Surprises at Masterpiece London ♦ ︎
A visit to Maximilianstrasse 14, Munich, always surprises you. It’s the adress of the high-jewelery of Germany, under the signs of Hemmerle. Specialist in the refined combination of materials (such as aluminum, copper, wood with precious stones), enclosed in simple and precise shapes, Hemmerle conceives and produces jewelery outside the ordinary.

Only a public of connoisseurs, with noble tastes and, of course, proper economic resources, is able to appreciate the jewelry of the company founded in 1893 by the brothers Joseph and Anton Hemmerle, now led by Joseph’s nephew Joseph Stefan Hemmerle. He is the manager of the company with his wife Sylveli, while the fourth generation, with Christian and Yasmin Hemmerle, is responsible for managing product design and development. For example, the novelties presented at the Masterpiece London 2017, which include a pair of white gold earrings, diamonds and blackened silver. Alessia Mongrando

Hemmerle still amazes

Hemmerle still amazes at Tefaf: the refined combinations of Egyptian earrings, bracelets, aluminum and precious stones.
Innovation, courage, imagination. What other definition is lacking to describe Hemmerle? Paradoxically a: tradition. It sounds really strange that one of the maison’s creative Maison in the world, to the limits of recklessness, is also the fruit of a centuries-old history. Hemmerle was born in Monaco of Bavaria in 1893. In this year Japan decided to adopt the Gregorian calendar, Rudolf Diesel patented the type of engine that bears his name, and died the writer Guy de Maupassant. In short, in another era.

Two years later the company was already working for Ludwig III of Bavaria, and the imprinting of working on unique pieces, imaginative, unusual, is perhaps the feature that has preserved better. The descendant of the race of goldsmiths elite, Christian Hemmerle, now leads with his wife Yasmin the company famous for its refined creations, such as those who showed during the Tefaf in Maastricht (in a stand designed by the Dutch architect Tom Postma). It’s high jewelry, unusual, where wonderful sapphires can be mounted on an aluminum set, a brown diamond is accompanied with the humble copper, or with earrings in ancient Egyptian style. Sabbadini in Monte Carlo

Sabbadini from Monte Napoleone in Monte Carlo at top of jewelry.
There will also Sabbadini at Top Marques in Monte Carlo, scheduled 20-23 April in the Principality. The brand, which has its main selling point in the center of Milan, in via Monte Napoleone, in Monaco shows its latest creations of fine jewelry. Sabbadini is a unique example in the Italian. La Maison was founded in 1940 by Bruno Sabbadini, but was active in the high-quality precious stones trade. The story continued with Alberto, who opened the doors to the jewelry, with the first showroom in New York in 1983. After Alberto, here is the son Pierandrea, joined the family after a long stay in the United States. Sabbadini has emerged as a virtuoso in the use of stones, in particular with the invisible setting. One example is the famous collection of the brand, the shaped brooches of Bees. Volund, from the Tsars to the Principate

In the Principate of Monaco there is the opportunity to see up close the rare jewels of Volund, a Maison that has its roots in the court of the tsars.
The Principality of Monaco is one of the places on Earth with the highest concentration of wealthy. No wonder, then, that every year there is organized the Top Marques Monaco (20-23 April), an exhibition that brings together different kinds of brands of luxury: from the superboats to the cars top of the range, up to watches and jewelry. Among the latter there is, not surprisingly, a brand for a few, indeed, for less of few: Volund. He is based in Vancouver, Canada. It was founded by Nick Ross who, he says, was born in Russia to parents of Finnish and Swedish origin, and has ancestors who worked as a goldsmiths at the Russian Imperial Court. The stated aim of the small Canadian Maison is to revive the tradition of his family. A kind of tradition also from the point of view of style: jewelry that are unique pieces, with forms that have roots in the past, as lion heads, twisted columns, engraving of metals. “I studied with several European masters, I learned working with the wax carving from a goldsmith Baltic, to sculpt by a Russian master, and digital design by German and Italian experts,” he says. With this behind us, Volund started to produce a few pieces a year, characterized by a refined and laborious work and, not surprisingly, from a price proportional to their scarcity. The exhibition of Monaco is an opportunity to see them up close. Federico Graglia

Demetra, jewelry goddess

Demetra’s jewels, made in Italy and sold in Monte Carlo, in the name of tradition.

Demeter, according to Greek mythology, was the sister of Zeus, goddess of wheat and agriculture, protector of marriage and sacred laws. Today, however, it is a company based in Valenza (Piedmont) and Monte Carlo (Principality of Monaco). Instead of wheat and threshing, we collect pearls, diamonds and precious stones, especially aquamarine. In the reserved stage of Monte Carlo, however, Demetra sells jewels that are made in the cradle of the Italian goldsmith tradition. Demetra is keen to underline that “natural diamonds that illuminate jewels do not come from illicit sources and without exploitation of women and minors as our suppliers certify”. The company was founded by Alberto Pertosa in the Principality of Monaco in June 2016.

The jewels of the goddess Demeter, in any case, have a more classic style. Pearls adorn rings, earrings or pendants, rubies that color the center of a ring surrounded by small diamonds, often mounted on platinum or gold: all in the traditional goldsmith tradition and, despite Montecarlo is a luxury darling, with very competitive prices compared to those offered on average in jewelry.

Buccellati at top in Monte Carlo

A Buccellati ring on top in the first auction 2017 of jewelery organized by Artcurial in Monte Carlo.
It’s scheduled in Monaco the first auction 2017 by Artcurial dedicated to jewels. As always it is organized at the Yacht Club de Monte-Carlo, January 19 to 21 and is dedicated to jewelry and watches. Among the items for sale are not lacking the jewels of the big names, such as Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, Chopard, Chaumet, Buccellati and Van Cleef & Arpels. Among the most remarkable pieces there are also jewelry made of gold and diamonds signed Suzanne Belperron, or a set of different jewelry including a yellow gold ring with an emerald-cut diamond, 15,40 carats by Buccellati. It is the top rod piece, with a evaluation of 240 to 260,000 euros: belonged to an unspecified royal family, which obviously needs to accomplish. Soon after, always in the estimates, is in the catalog a bracelet-watch in platinum and white gold with diamonds by Cartier. Quite impressive, it has a rating of 120-150.00 euros. Federico Graglia

In Monaco an auction with Belperron & c

You want to combine the sea, the luxury and the thrill of an auction of jewelry? Write down on your schedule this date: 16-19 July. In the Principality of Monaco, under the insignia of Artcurial, at the Hotel Hermitage is scheduled for a summer marathon that includes the sale of 563 pieces. There’s something for all tastes, from a auction value of one thousand euro (for a brooch with diamonds), up to rise to much higher estimates. And it is understandable why: next to interesting pieces, but anonymous, there are charm bracelets, rings and necklaces of the largest names in jewelery from Bulgari to Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier to Boucheron. But don’t less the signatures of the great designers, as in the case of Suzanne Belperron, which we have chosen to symbolize the event, or Jean Vendôme or French sculptors Arman and Cesar. The pieces in auction go from a jewelry of the early twentieth century to contemporary pieces, with an (obvious) prevalence of the French Maison. The pieces, on tan skin, should stand out very well. The first auction of 2016

Write down this date: the first auction of 2016 of jewelry will be held between 18 and 20 January in Monaco, where Artcurial organized in the Yacht Club of the principality a sales mix, which includes valuable, but also vintage watches, Hermès bags, wine and spirits. There is also a piece that is halfway between the collecting of spirits and jewelery: the bottle of French Revol made in porcelain black and covered with 413 white diamonds and blacks by London jeweler Garrard. Among the jewels (scheduled Jan. 19), they also sell a gold pin platinum by Fred, a bow-shaped brooch in platinum and gold with white diamonds, yellow, madeira or cognac (estimate: 20000-22000 euro), and a pair of white gold earrings with cabochon emeralds and diamonds (estimate: 65,000-75,000), a fancy yellow diamond ring cut into the heart (estimate: from 160,000-180,000 euro).
