The challenge of Roma Jewelry Week

Rome against Milan? Is it a contrast between the two Italian cities, or just a coincidence? Jewelry Week is back in Milan (20-23 October). And a week before the second edition of the Rome Jewelry Week (7 to 16 October) is staged. Like last year, the event is promoted by the Incinque Open Art Monti association, which involved over 150 international designers. The idea of replicating the week dedicated to jewelry, which has become a tradition in Milan (apart from the pause due to the pandemic) is by the architect Monica Cecchini, curator and director of the project, with the advice of Barbara Brocchi, creative manager, illustrator, writer, designer and coordinator of the jewelry design department Ied-Rome, of Bianca Cappello, teacher, historian and critic of the jewel.

Milano Jewelry Week is back, with 750 exhibitors and 150 events

A new event dedicated to jewelery warms up the engines. After the mandatory break caused by the pandemic, the Milano Jewelry Week is back, with the viaticum of the Municipality of Milan, Club degli Orafi and Cna Federmoda. As already mentioned, the event is scheduled from 20 to 23 October. The idea, as in previous years, is that of an event spread in different places and with different targets of interest. Born a few years ago as a competition between avant-garde designers (the Artistar Jewels contest has remained), over the years the event has expanded, also thanks to the identification of the event with the Italian capital city of design. Prodes, the company that organizes Milan Jewelry Week, must be acknowledged for having hit the target.

In reality, for Prodes Italia, the stop of activities due to the pandemic was only physical, certainly not planning. These long months have in fact allowed us to study and work on new formats and develop new relationships. We are therefore excited to see how the event, in recent years, has matured and grown and, above all, we are happy to expect a very strong presence of visitors from abroad, who will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a four-day event dedicated to jewelery at 360. °, made up of workshops, exhibitions, live performances and much more.

Milan Jewelry Week has also been postponed

Milan Jewelry Week, the Milanese week dedicated to the world of jewelry, will take place from 3 to 6 June 2021 and no longer, as it was scheduled, from 22 to 25 October 2020. Prodes, a company that organizes different types of events, founded by Enzo Carbone , found too much uncertainty related to the health situation for the covid-19 epidemic. Will the emergency end in autumn? Who knows. If in doubt, the postponement was decided.

In October, the first Milano Jewelry Week

In Milan, in October, the first Jewelry Week with exhibitions, awards, designers ♦ ︎

Milan is the italian capital of business and, therefore, one should not be surprised if someone can create something new. As in the jewelry industry. Prodes Italia, for example, is a company that organizes and promotes events founded by Enzo Carbone a decade ago and that, in 2012, launched Artistar. The exhibition, initially conceived as a competition for avant-garde designers, so not for jewelery companies, has evolved over time. Artistar has managed to involve not only a patrol of more or less extravagant jewelry makers, but also designers of greater depth.

Edizione di primavera di Artistar Jewels 2019
Edizione di primavera di Artistar Jewels 2019

And now the competition has turned into a event with a demanding name: Milan Jewelry Week, scheduled from 24 to 27 October. It is the first edition and includes about 50 events in high jewelery ateliers, goldsmith workshops, academies, schools, art galleries, fashion boutiques and design showrooms in the city center. We must not misunderstand: this is not a replica of VicenzaOro in Milanese format, even though, perhaps, Prodes Italia would not mind expanding the horizon also to the jewelery industry.
Orecchini di Bianca d'Aniello
Orecchini di Bianca d’Aniello

The Milan Jewelry Week provides, instead, collective and personal exhibitions, exhibitions of galleries and international schools, workshops, performances, temporary shops and “prize-giving evenings will give multi-faceted interpretations of the history and technique of the goldsmith’s art, demonstrating its timelessness and, therefore, contemporaneity ”. The idea is that of a bridge between the world of fashion, of which Milan is the Italian capital, and that of jewelery and art design.

I am really proud to see such an ambitious project materialize, which we have been planning to realize for many years and that finally, in 2019, will see its first edition. My main objective has always been to create a happening for all the experts in the sector, which at the same time made this fascinating world discover even to a wider audience. The success gained over the years by Artistar Jewels has given us the opportunity to intercept the need to give the right emphasis to the world of contemporary jewelery, in strong expansion in recent years, seeing in Milan the perfect city to welcome avant-garde and new trends while continuing to enhance the tradition.

Two other events will also be held at Palazzo Bovara: Schmuckgalerie Silbermann, which will bring a spin-off of InFlux, an exhibition that started at the Munich Jewelery Week 2019, in which 12 pieces by Edwin Charmain, Katharina Kraus, Elisavet Messi and Lingjun Sun “will encourage a conversation about the evolution of goldsmith craftsmanship and investigate current opportunities” and Assamblage-National Contemporary Jewelry Association (Romania) which will present Belonging / S, a special interactive jewelry and photography project.

A most recognized jewelery company will instead be represented by the brand FuturoRemoto, with the founder Gianni De Benedittis who will present Carnivorous, the new Spring Summer 2020 collection.
