Elena Braccini, jewels and so be it

Religious devotion, tradition, a pinch of the Middle Ages: these are the elements of Elena Braccini’s jewelery ♦ ︎

From architecture to jewelry: it seems that this is one of the most popular streets by designers. And there is a link: architecture takes care of volumes and shapes, communicates aesthetics, also loves functionality. All elements that are found in the proposals of Elena Braccini, a Florentine specialist in Interior Design and with a master’s degree in jewelery at the Sacred Art School of Florence. Take note: the course of study is a clue to the creative world of Elena Braccini.

As shown by the The Real Madonnas and Deep Soul collections.

Anello basculante con immagine della Madonna
Tilting ring with image of the Madonna

The English name of the collections conceals, in reality, the very Italian passion of jewelry linked to tradition, even the religious one that has its roots in the medieval arts. Sacred art and zoomorphic interpretations, symbols: these are the areas that the designer’s jewelery attends.
The jewels are made entirely by hand by Florentine artisans in the historic shops of Ponte Vecchio (the bridge that crosses the river Arno). Gold and silver are characterized by micro-incisions, with stones that become micro-architectures. In addition to the aforementioned The Real Madonnas and Deep Soul collections, Elena Braccini also offers wedding rings and jewels made to order and customizable.

Rings, engagement made in Usa whit Nail Lane

Neil Lane’s jewels are exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Richard H. Driehaus Museum and the Kalamazoo Institute of the Arts. But above all they are on the fingers of celebrities ♦

Neil Lane, jeweler who is loved from people that are loved. That is, of celebrity like Miley Cyrus, who was photographed with a ring on the finger of the American designer. There are, then, Reese Witherspoon, Renee Zellweger, Jessica Simpson, Jennifer Hudson, Barbra Streisand, Ellen DeGeneres, Madonna and Angelina Jolie. But, after all, it isn’t important if the finger of one of these stars of the show there is a Neil Lane ring? But if you are planning an engagement or a wedding, it might interest you to know that the American jeweler is a specialist in rings for special occasions. In fact, we propose a selection of its vast range in terms of rings.

A few words about its history: Neil Lane was born in New York, in Brooklyn to be precise. After college, he moved to Paris, where he learned the art of jewelry and started a famous collection of vintage pieces. He moved to Los Angeles and here he conquered Hollywood. Often the engagement rings and wedding of actors and actresses are purchased by him.

The fusion menu of Hanut Singh

Among India and the United States: Hanut Singh proposes jewels worthy of a maharaja (in fact his grandfather was an Indian king) ♦ ︎

India is the world’s largest gold market, the United States the most important for jewelry and Hanut Singh represents the two sides of this coin. The designer, nephew of an Indian maharaja, works in Los Angeles, where he brought his cultural heritage, but put at the service of the stars and stripes style. It is no coincidence that his clients include Diane von Furstenberg, Mary-Kate Olsen, Wendi Deng Murdoch, Beyoncé, Madonna and Christian Louboutin. Hanut’s passion for jewelry began when he was a child. He is a descendant of the royal family of Kapurthala, India, famous for its legendary treasures and their taste for luxury. The great-grandfather, Maharaja Jagatjit Singh, was a friend of the American president Theodore Roosevelt and the French statesman Georges Clemenceau.

And he has collected jewels, from a diadem of Cartier to a aigrette of Boucheron, which are part of the family collection. The long history of Hanut’s family also includes the grandmother, Maharani Sita Devi of Kapurthala, Princess Karam, known for the way she matched her jewels with her sari, the tailored suits by Chanel, Lanvin and Elsa Schiaparelli , defined in Vogue as a “goddess” in 1932 and photographed by Cecil Beaton. In short, it is not surprising that Hanut Singh prefers vintage pearls, with a slight patina of time, to be used with white gold and yellow gold, to create his jewels with an exotic taste, but at the same time so modern that they can be worn on a red carpet. And not only because the designer combines pieces of Indian influence with more geometric and linear elements that are typical of Western taste. If it were a chef would propose a fusion menu, in short.

How to recognize the true Trifari jewelry

Trifari jewelry is collected. But you know to recognize them? Here’s how.

Are you attracted by the charm of vintage, from jewelry that have a flavor of old times, of ornaments capable of taking a look of wonder? Here’s to you Trifari, America more Italy, mixed in the last century. The jewelry company was founded in 1910 by Gustavo Trifari, son of Neapolitan immigrants in the United States (there were other times). Trifari defined an era in American jewelery with necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets that have been worn by the First Lady Mamie Eisenhower, but also by Madonna. It is also merit of a French designer, Alfred Philippe, who was the creative mind of the House from 1930 until 1968. Although it is a costume jewelry brand, the production has also used techniques born in the jewelry, such as using the “invisible set» for the stones, that was invented by Van Cleef and Arpels.

Among the most sought after pieces of Trifari there were the crowns. The pins Trifari Crown, from the late thirties to the fifties were among the most popular jewelry. There’s also a 1953 series that celebrates the ascension to the throne of Elizabeth II. Also very popular jewelry in the shape of animals or flowers: someone collects them. Realized for years simply not precious metal, costume jewelery during World War have gone to silver, because of the shortage of raw material intended for use in war. The Trifari family continued to manage Maison until 1975. Then the company was bought and sold several times until, in 2000, the Monet group has moved production abroad and marked the decline of the brand.

If you’re curious to know if you have jewelry in the drawer of this brand, take a look at the rear: it must appear the written Jewels by Trifari, or the initials TKF (Trifari, Krussman and Fishel), or simply Trifari.

The success of Trifari bijoux also derives from the VIP clientele, true influencers of the time, who advertised the brand by wearing the jewels. In the 1930s many Trifari bijoux were created for the Broadway musicals, at their peak at the time, and for many showgirls. And Trifari jewels were also worn by the first lady, the wife of President Eisenhower, Mary Geneva known as Mamie, who chose these jewels on the occasion of her husband’s inauguration in the White House in 1950. And nowadays, Madonna in the film Evita has worn Trifari jewelry.

With Bjorg among design and Northern myths

////

Bjorg, a brand born from the fantasy of Bjørg Nordli-Mathisen took its first steps in India in 2004. A long journey from the far north of Norway, beyond the arctic circle, where the designer was born and lived. Perhaps this is also why Bjørg has developed particular attention to light and form. Her collections evoke the bright colors of an infinite summer, also embracing the stark contrast of the dark winters, often referring to and returning to the patterns of the sea and mountains of her childhood.

Collana della collezione alfabeto

Nomad of spirit and habits, the designer is a globetrotter who releases two collections a year. The style is at the same time minimal, characteristic of Northern Europe, but also extreme, sometimes with maxi-sized jewels. Impossible to remain indifferent in front of the production of Bjorg, destined for a high end of fans. A cool audience: her pieces have been worn by artists such as Madonna, Rihanna, Lykke Li, Robyn, Kelly Rowland, Coco Sumner, Jessie J, Röyksopp and the actress Noomi Rapace. His production casually uses bronze together with diamonds and precious gems, and is inspired indifferently (declares Bjorg) to surrealism like Charles Darwin or ancient myths.

IDoni for those who want to believe

The brand IDoni was launched by Nuova Jolly Oreficerie, a Arezzo-based company leader in the production of medals with the image of the Madonna and crosses: “The idea is that of a collection with a religious theme, but only whispered”, he explained at the moment of the baptism (of the brand) Monica Fin, project consultant. Crosses and ex-voto hearts become pendants added to bracelets and earrings.

The jewels are often composed with an elastic thread coated with silver plated in the six colors, including yellow and pink gold, but not only. «These are necklaces and bracelets with one or more threads that adapt to the wrist, but the main characteristic is that they are double-sided objects, on one side the white or black mother of pearl and on the other the religious sign, so as to allow who wears it to show his faith or not. For this I use the word whispered », adds Fin. The Cammeo collection, on the other hand, is characterized by diamond-working, enriched by a central cameo with soft colors.

Stephen Webster celebrates 25 years of Crystal Haze

x

In 1995, after two years of development, Stephen Webster released Crystal Haze, a special gem set in chunky gold settings. Thanks to this innovation, the cocktail ring has become an icon of the London jeweler. Success came when Madonna bought one. The Crystal Haze technique consists in the layering and bonding of two stones using laser cutting processes combined with traditional materials. The top layer is a highly faceted natural clear quartz, which becomes a magnifying glass to enhance the color of the underlying gemstone. Quartz allows light to enter from hundreds of different angles producing a kind of holographic haze that moves as the jewelry is turned.

Now the CH2 collection celebrates 25 years of the Crystal Haze effect. It goes without saying that the collection includes many rings, but not only that, The faceted surface of the quartz is also used for bracelets, earrings, necklaces, all in 18K gold and all with Crystal Haze as an integral part. Besides these layered gems, in addition, diamonds with different cut, either round or baguette are added. The result is always glam.

Trend: jewels with your name

Necklaces with personalized names or pendants to spell words? It is one of the most followed trends

In 2021 one of the trends will be that of necklaces with personalized pendants, with the initials or full name of the wearer, or of children and partners. It has certainly been a few years since the trend of personalizing jewels with words or names has also been adopted by celebrities. For example, from Carrie Bradshaw, the character played by Jessica Parker in Sex and the city, to Kate Moss, immortalized some time ago on the cover of Vogue Uk by Mario Testino. Precisely for this reason there are many jewelry brands that offer necklaces with a name, or that offer the possibility of composing a date or a word by aligning the letters of the alphabet.

Artlinea, bracciale in argento e cubic zirconia personalizzabile

In short, the small chain that shows off the baptismal name seems to have become a must. But there are also pendants that offer the same result. If you want to add yourself to the list of fans of this kind of jewelry, you’ll be with Adele, Miranda Kerr, Miley Cirus, Anna Dello Russo, Lindsay Lohan, Lea Michel, Rihanna, Paris Hilton, Emma Roberts, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Biel … all, sooner or later, they wore a necklace with their full name. Instead, they opted for the initials Madonna, Beyonce, Charlize Theron, Taylor Swift, Lauren Conrad. Lavinia Andorno

The freedom jewels of Karma El Khalil

She studied psychology. And for this she became a gemologist and jewelry designer in New York. It seems strange? It is. But it is the story of Karma El Khalil, who received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Tufts University in Boston. Then, she wanted to do a master’s degree in London, but a random mistake on the part of the school’s admissions department delayed entry. So Karma spent the summer designing jewelry for fun. As can be easily deduced from the name, Karma El Khalil is of Arab origin. Lebanese, to be precise. And the makeshift designer showed the jewelry design to a family friend in Beirut, which is one of the centers of Middle Eastern jewelry.

Orecchini Puzzle di iolite

Result: they liked them. The designer’s parents invested $ 10,000 to make 15 pieces, which were immediately sold. And Karma El Khalil’s professional history began. She moved to New York to study design and graduated from the GIA, immediately sold 80% of the jewelry at the first opportunity and found admirers in Madonna and Brad Pitt, who gave Angelina Jolie a Karma ring (they were others times), Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera. The mix of cultures that she brings with her, between Europe, America and Africa (where she lived as a child with her parents), stimulated and conditioned her creativity. And, perhaps, the degree in psychology helps her understand the desire of others.

The Santos y Cielos collection by Colette

/

Perhaps it is no coincidence that Colette’s new collection, Santos y Cielos, was unveiled when the coronavirus kills thousands of people around the world. The jewels of the French-Mexican designer Colette Steckel, in fact, seem to have come out of one of those Baroque Catholic churches that are found in Spain, Portugal or, precisely, in the countries of Central America. And it is when the fear grows that men and women appeal more to divine protection.

The designer has made it known, however, that the Santos y Cielos collection is above all a tribute to the late father, who died several years ago. And that, probably, would have appreciated the choice of the model called to wear Colette’s jewels: Alana Hadid, stylist and half-sister of the models Gigi and Bella Hadid.

The collection consists of a series of necklaces and a few rings with a religious subject. The jewels are enriched with small medallions with devout images: Madonna, understood as a Christian symbol and not as a singer, Jesus, small angels and Padre Pio, an Italian friar whom many faithful venerate as a saint. The images are hand painted in enamel by Colette herself. Prices range from around $ 1,500 for a ring up to $ 22,000 for more elaborate necklaces.

Falcinelli, Italy with taste of the East

The jewels of Falcinelly Italy: from Tuscany to the rest of the world a wide range of earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets ♦

Fabrizio Falcinelli: when Arezzo rhymes not only with gold, but also with diamonds. And with the design. Falcinelli is the son of art (his parents founded in 1968 Falcinelli Diamonds). Now he continues their work, but expanded. The Tuscan company produces some jewelry to other company: for example, the ring Jules Verne in diamonds and blacks diamonds, sapphires and imperial topaz, signed by Edouard Nahum and worn by Madonna. But, next to the realization of fine jewelry on commission, Fabrizio Falcinelli designs and makes jewelry collections with the brand Falcinelli Italy. Nemo profeta in patria (in latin means nobody is prophet at own home) you might say, the company exports 98% of production. In particular, Falcinelli is a star in the UAE and in some post-Soviet country, as Ukraine and Uzbekistan, where the brand operates stores and the brand is well known. His specialty are jewelry from the Italian taste, but with the wealth of materials and the fanciful shapes that are popular in the East. As the jewels presented to VicenzaOro. Cosimo Muzzano

Bulgari Wild Pop

The new Bulgari high jewelery collection is called Wild Pop and is inspired by the eighties ♦ ︎

Revival is not new in fashion. Indeed, all the epochs, sooner or later, rediscover how beautiful it was 20 or 30 years ago, how good it was and what a wonderful style it was in vogue. Know that it will also happen the nex thirty years, when your nephews will find adorable what today seems to be tacky to you. This is how the world goes.
After the boom of the art deco, for example, today likes the day before yesterday, ie the seventies and eighties. Of course, the reasons to remember or imagine the liveliness of those years is not lacking: the TV series like Dinasty and Miami Vice, the stars of the era, such as Madonna and David Bowie, but also Andy Warhol. That Bulgari, however, designed a necklace of high jewelry with the shape of the leaves of marijuana it was difficult to imagine. On the other hand, the new high jewelery collection will scandalize those who consider cannabis leaves a sin and a danger. Perhaps it is precisely what the Italian brand wants, which is part of the LVMH group. Although, probably, the intention of Bulgari is not to encourage those who buy their jewelry to smoke, perhaps to forget the price.
In any case, the new Bulgari high jewelery collection is called Wild Pop and comes from an idea of the creative director of the Roman Maison, Lucia Silvestri, after visiting the Andy Warhol Foundation for the visual arts in NY. There, among the papers of the artist symbol of Pop Art, he discovered the catalogs of Bulgari of the eighties. A wedding invitation, which also explains the transgressive side of the collection, which is not by chance called Wild Pop.

Lucia Silvestri
Lucia Silvestri

“It’s not just the themes of the collection that are wild, like the delicate parure of marijuana entitled Happy Leaves in white gold with 14.63 carats of diamonds and 5.60 carats of emeralds, inspired by the film Desperately Seeking Susan, where Madonna shares a joint with a friend “, explained Lucia Silvestri. “Its kaleidoscopic colors and maxi dimensions are also wild. Wild Pop is a tribute to an era marked by the desire to have everything and at the same time celebrates the bond between Bulgari and Warhol “.
While the list of sources of inspiration, from Ronald Reagan to Jane Fonda, from disco music to the return of the tubogas, can continue for a long time, the description of the jewels is more interesting. The Queen of Pop necklace reinterprets in platinum a typical form of the Eighties, with a central 24.80 carat sapphire surrounded by baguettes, tourmalines and sapphires. Supreme Diamond Light evokes the Manhattan skyline by combining onyx and diamonds. The Magnificent Green Ruffles necklace with a 34.12 carat emerald is inspired by Alexis Carrington, iconic character from the Dinasty TV series. Flamingos is a necklace in rose gold, onyx and diamonds. Palms is in yellow gold, agate, carnelian and diamonds that draw tropical palms tribute to the Miami Vice TV series. The Synthesizer jewels are inspired by Madonna and David Bowie. Perhaps today’s jewels are better than the style of those years. Giulia Netrese

A Madonna for Christmas with Swarovski

/

A capsule collection signed Fiona Swarovski dedicated to Our Lady ♦ ︎
In most Western countries, Christmas is a festival with a religious origin. It then turned into a phenomenon of consumption, but originally it was linked only to the Christian calendar. For many it is still this way. The proof is the small collection announced by Fiona Swarovski dedicated to Virgin Mary, that is to the Madonna. An essentially Catholic cult (Swarovski is a Austrian brand and the country is Catholic). The collection, which consists of two cuffs with a large central crystal that recalls the figure of Mary, surrounded by a motif of pavé and Swarovski pearls, available in rhodium and in yellow gold. There are also two dangle earrings that reflect the same decoration, in the colors yellow gold and rose gold and, finally, two long necklaces with crystal pendant, embellished with crosses in pavé crystals and, in the rhodium variant, Swarovski pearls. The jewels are available exclusively for Italy in a selection of Swarovski stores in Milan and Rome. Prices from 199 to 399 euros. Lavinia Andorno

Colette’s stars

Colette Steckel’s jewels, roots in France and Mexico, based in the US ♦ ︎
The name, Colette Steckel, has French roots. But she grew up in Mexico. With France, however, she maintained a close bond: even today, when she moved to Los Angeles, part of the processing of his collections is made in the transalpine country. In Mexico City, however, she maintains a flagshipstore, while in Los Angeles has its business location, launched in 1995, with the Colette brand. She tells that her passion for jewels dates back to her childhood when she bonded geode crystals with copper wire for electricity. But then she attended a graphic designer course at Gia. Her style is rather eclectic: she says to inspire travel around the world, among the Masai Africans and Istanbul artisans. One of her favorite themes is the one inspired by the stars, as evidenced by his Galaxia Collection. Among the fans of Colette who participated at the Couture in Las Vegas, there are Madonna, Rihanna, Adriana Lima, Kate Hudson, Jessica Alba. Stars which attract other stars.  Lavinia Andorno

Yeprem in the palm of one’s hand

Yeprem uses only colorless diamonds set in white gold or platinum, the classic of classics. Yet from the Lebanese brand you can expect anything but a traditional jewel. In fact, the design is very unusual, a combination of oriental inspiration, the shape of a snake for necklaces, for example, or variations on the theme of the hand bracelet, with sharp sparkling spikes and high jewelry cuts. It all started 50 years ago in Beirut when Yeprem Chakardemyan opened his own shop, a small family business that over time has become an international brand, but it all changed in 2012 when the son of Chakardemian, Loutfic, took over the artistic direction and marked a turning point literally fierce. In fact, in no time the very popular brand in the Middle East has achieved great success in the US with a collection named Claw, creeping between and around the fingers to decorate the hand and shine on Rihanna, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez.

It’s no coincidence that Yeprem is located in the best department stores such as Neiman Marcus, Harvey Nichols and Bergdorf Goodman and last year it has also won the Couture Design Awards, in the category People’choice: people like its hand bracelet Ararad of Y-Conic collection (https://gioiellis.com/i-14-vincitori-degli-oscar-del-gioiello). At the latest Baselworld edition, where compared to previous years colorless diamonds were going stronger than fancy-coloured ones, Yeprem featured a mesmerizing Firework necklace of the Y-Not Collection, with round  and marquise cut diamonds, snake shaped on on one side and the other slowly enlarge to expand as fireworks, precisely. Flowers bloom, with round , pear and marquise cuts in the triple rings of Y-Not Smart collection, or in white gold to wear in mid finger as flakes. And for a royal hand there is the crown style. Stephen Webster on paper

A book celebrates 39 years of work by Stephen Webster, the “jeweler rock” that has brought a breath of youth and turmoil in the world of British jewelery. And not only. The book is called Goldstruck: A Life Shaped by Jewellery (330 pages, 72 € on Amazon, Salma Editions, 2015). An opportunity to look at the many stages of his long career and, above all, to observe the evolution of its production. The long history of Webster in the world of jewelery, starts from a course for aspiring goldsmiths in Kent until you get to the phone calls of Madonna who absolutely wants to buy his pieces. For the singer of Like a Virgin has designed a cocktail ring and later the engagement ring before the wedding with her now ex-husband Guy Ritchie. But he worked also to Kate Moss, Jay-Z, Johnny Depp and Cameron Diaz. Since the nineties his career finally took off. Meanwhile he traveled widely and wrote 140,000 words with his iPad while he was in flight, including some poems. As well as a short story, The Cardigans, the story of something that happened to her sweater during a flight. Federico Graglia

Madonna, a septum piercing

What unites Madonna and her daughter Lola, apart from the close relationship? Answer: a septum piercing. The images posted on Instagram have confirmed the link between the nostrils is the latest performed by mother and daughter. The piercing of the singer is customized with a letter “M”, the initial of his name. Madonna seems to follow the fashion style of her daughter Lourdes Leon, called Lola, who already 18 years wore a ring at nose. It should be added that Madonna is not the only star to show a jewel at the nose. Lady Gaga also wore a similar piercing, as well as the model Kendall Jenner, who chose to be photographed with a large pattern ring, Indian style.
By the way, it is worth mentioning that in India the most common septum piercing is on the left nostril, because according to Ayurvedic medicine is associated with the female reproductive organs, and a piercing in that position is thought to make childbirth easier. Not only: many Indian women Hindu chose this kind of jewel at nose at 16, the traditional age for marriage. And this type of piercing, in India, is a Hindu sign in honor of Parvati, the goddess of marriage.
