Lebole’s mobile equilibria

Lebole Gioielli updates the Character Furniture line, which is part of the Gotica collection. Introduced a couple of years ago, and now updated with new pieces, Characters Furniture refers to the self-propelled structure of gold-plated silver earrings. The designer, Barbara Lebole, was inspired by that line of art that uses moving parts, in particular those sculptures built to exploit the dynamism of balance, as in Calder’s works, in which the different elements are balanced in a delicate balance, but oscillate with the first breath of air.

The earrings of the Characters Furniture line are composed of colored and multi-material elements, suspended on a silver frame that recalls in the drawings the Gothic mother collection. The earrings have the freedom to move with the movement of the wearer. Each earring in the collection, all individual pieces, choreographically uses stones of various shapes, colored cameos and small objects that allude to the Wunderkammer, the chambers of wonders that contained objects that were rare or unusual at the time, in vogue in the Renaissance and beyond.
The single earrings can of course be combined. Prices start from 27 euros 100 euros for a single earring.

Lantern earrings for Lebole

/

Lebole earrings ready for the tea ceremony. The new Lebole Gioielli collection called Tourou, which is the Japanese name for a traditional lantern made of stone, wood or metal and which is often found in traditional gardens, for example outside the pavilions where the tea ceremony takes place. This collection of lantern-shaped earrings is developed in two different pairs of asymmetrical pieces. The earrings are designed with a lantern on one side and a Japanese ideogram on the opposite side (Japan is the passion of the designer Barbara Lebole).

Orecchini con seta e nappa

The lanterns are decorated with stones and tassels as in oriental culture and are matched in colors with silk. The lanterns in Japanese gardens were introduced by Buddhist monks as prayer altars and are meant to symbolize the depth of the spirit. In fact, from a spiritual point of view they are a safe place where the spirit can rest during the mystical path in the garden. The lanterns installed in the less visible areas of the gardens symbolize an unexpected point of arrival and thus indicate an inner journey. The materials used in the collection are gold galvanized brass, natural stones and silk from an ancient Japanese kimono spread over wood.

A lotus flower for Lebole

/

The lotus flower is only a set of petals for Westerners, but in the East it is deeply evocative, as Lebole Gioielli knows well. In love with Japan and its (often surprising) traditions, Barbara Lebole dedicated to the lotus flower which in Japanese is called Hasu, in particular to the Ohga variety, one of her collections of earrings. This flower has a story that Lebole reconstructs to introduce the Ohga Hasu collection, composed of lotus flowers that decorate, mixed with colored natural stones, earrings of multiple lengths and sizes.

Orecchini con nappa rossa
Orecchini con nappa rossa

Here is the story: in 1951 the Japanese botanist Ichiro Ohga found, under a layer of peat, some seeds hidden for over a thousand years. From those seeds a unique specimen of lotus blossomed, unknown until then and it arrived to us after almost 2 thousand years. According to tradition, it is not enough that the seed is thrown into the water to hatch: it needs to be scratched. For this reason it is more easily rooted in swampy water, because the residues that the mud drags scratch the seed allowing its vitality. In any case, like the other lotus varieties, Ohga is also a symbol of purity, because it blooms immaculate even in muddy waters.

Jewels for the Cat’s Day

/

Jewels dedicated to the Cat’s Day, which is February 17th. For all tastes ♦ ︎
Maybe you do not know, but there’s a Day in February which, for many, is even more important than Valentine’s Day. It is the National Day of the Cat. The day dedicated to the most beloved feline occurs on 17 February. The idea is quite recent: it was born in 1990 thanks to the gattofila journalist Claudia Angeletti through the readers of the Italy magazine Tuttogatto. In the end the proposal by the reader Oriella Del Col was the winner.

Orecchini gatto
Orecchini gatto

The reason for the choice was indicated in the fact that February is the month of the zodiacal sign of Aquarius, ie free spirits, like cats. Furthermore, in the past, February it was defined as “the month of cats and witches”. Regarding the number, 17 in the tradition of some countries, is considered an unfortunate number, an undeserved reputation that in the past was reserved for the cat. And here, then, a selection of jewelry and bijoux gattofili, starting from the earrings of the collection The Circle of Lebole Jewels. But from Bliss to Van Cleef & Arpels the jewels that have the cat as protagonist are really many. Lavinia Andorno

Japanese kimonos transformed into earrings in the Tan-Mono collection by Lebole Gioielli

/

Lebole Gioielli is a brand so tied to the world of fabrics. And it is not a news that Japan‘s charm is the leitmotif of its collections, given Barbara Lebole’s preference for the Land of the Rising Sun. Here, then, is the Tan-Mono collection.

Lebole Gioielli, orecchini della collezione Tan-Mono
Lebole Gioielli, orecchini della collezione Tan-Mono

The tan-mono, in fact, is a roll of fabric from which a kimono is obtained, the traditional dress of Japanese women. The fabric is 36 cm wide, i.e. the maximum width of a traditional Japanese loom. Precisely for this reason the kimono is packaged in strips. The length of the tan-mono instead varies according to the size of the kimono. Even today, in traditional kimono shops, the customer chooses and buys the tan-mono and the garment packaging is separate.

In the case of Lebole Gioielli, on the other hand, Japanese tan-mono are spread on leather with a particular procedure. And then they are transformed into earrings. In the Tan-Mono collection the pair of earrings is made up of two equal elements. In the symmetrical composition geometric figures are used decorated with stones of different colors and mounted in gold galvanized brass.

A journey through time with Lebole Gioielli’s Middle Ages collection earrings, now also with a bow

//

Lebole Gioielli is a brand that is characterized by two choices: the use of fabric as a recurring material, in particular that used for Japanese kimonos, and the proposal almost exclusively of earrings. Alongside these cornerstones, there is a third: the reference of the collections to themes related to art, history and culture. As for the Middle Ages collection, however partially relinquishes the first characteristic, the fabric, used only for some pieces.

Orecchino con fiocco

Now the collection is joined by earrings with bows, in a literal sense: the ornamental knot in this case represents a weave, a commitment and at the same time a free bond, which can however be dissolved by pulling one of the end parts of the bow.

The bow earrings are made in three sizes and sold individually. However, they can be combined with all the others from the Middle Ages collection. The bow is made with the same silver lace trimmed with clover and galvanized gold, the leitmotiv of the whole collection. The earring has been decorated exclusively with natural stones in two colors: pearl and black.

A Japanese circle for Lebole Jewels

/

The ancient Japanese graphic sign ensō inspired a new collection by Lebole Gioielli ♦ ︎

The ensō graphic sign is the most common in Japanese calligraphy. As often happens in the East, the meaning is elusive or, better, multiple: ensō symbolizes enlightenment, strength and the universe, but also simply a circle. Closed or open? Revealed or hidden? The choice and the attribution are your. But ensō is also an image and, therefore, it is possible to limit oneself to the aesthetic effect. From Japan to Italy: the Lebole Gioielli brand has used, since its debut, eight years ago, Japanese icons and fabrics, from which Barbara Lebole is fascinated, as a symbol of the culture and art of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Orecchini della collezione Enso
Orecchini della collezione Enso

One of the new collections has therefore decided to be inspired by the graphic sign of ensō, an operation entrusted to the sculptor and designer Peru, the name of art by Paolo Perugini. The characteristic of Perugini art is the recovery and reuse of materials and in this new collection he uses circles of metal galvanized gold and semi-circles of leather covered with silk from ancient Japanese kimonos. The total composition is decorated with colored stones that match the colors of the fabrics. The pairs of symmetrical earrings develop in three sizes.

The paintings of late nineteenth century painters are transformed into earrings with Lebole Gioielli ♦ ︎

The Macchiaioli were an Italian artistic movement of the late nineteenth century, that including painters such as Giuseppe De Nittis, Giovanni Fattori, Carlo Fornara, Domenico and Gerolamo Induno, Silvestro Lega, Angelo Morbelli, Giuseppe Pellizza from Volpedo, Giovanni Segantini, Federico Zandomeneghi. Now the Macchiaioli is dedicated to an exhibition organized in Novara (12 october – 24 february) that includes about 80 works by the great Italian masters, to which are added those of painters who took inspiration from that movement, like Giovanni Boldini.

What do the Macchiaioli have to do with jewels? They have to do with.

Capsule collection dedicata ai Macchiaioli
Capsule collection dedicata ai Macchiaioli

Lebole Gioielli has decided to combine a line of earrings in the Circle collection with 12 images of the exhibited works.
The choice is due to the passion of the designer, Barbara Lebole, for painting and art in general, as well as traditional antiques in the family. The Circle earrings are made with flat capsules printed on tinplate, mounted in gold-plated brass and natural stones. The asymmetry is given by the different images imprinted in the capsule. They will be on sale at the show shoop of the exhibition and in all Lebole Gioielli retailers. Price: 28 euros.

//

A Japanese legend inspires the Tanabata collection by Lebole Gioielli ♦ ︎

That Japan is the beacon that illuminates the creativity of Barbara Lebole is known. The kimono fabrics used for the numerous earrings collections testify to this. Now there is the charm of the Rising Sun turns into a fairy tale with the Tanabata collection, composed of several pairs of earrings, asymmetrical, formed by pairs of stars of various sizes that meet like the characters of Japanese legend. The materials used remain linked to the company’s tradition, fabrics of ancient Japanese kimonos, silver galvanized gold and natural stones combined with the colors of the fabrics. Price: from 60 to 190 euros the silks and silver collection. From 190 to 250 euros the Must collection.

Orecchini Ciuffo: tessuti di antichi kimono giapponesi, argento galvanizzato oro e pietre naturali

The secret inscription

Yeah, but what does Tanabata refer to? It is the name of the seventh night of the seventh month, ie July, and celebrates the meeting of two deities, Orihime and Hikoboshi, represented by Two Stars Innamorate Vega and Altair. In fact, each pair of earrings is attached to a strip of colored paper called Tanazaku, which symbolizes a silk thread intertwined by Orihime. Above the strip will be written a phrase to be discovered, as they use to do the Japanese on the day of Tanabata. To celebrate the love of the two stars, in fact, they hang from the bamboo trees of the tanazaku in which they write poems, prayers and desires turned to the stars.

Japanese legend

If you are curious to know the Japanese legend, here it is: in ancient times on the shores of the Celeste River (the Milky Way), lived the ’emperor of the sky, Tentei, whose daughter Orihime (Vega) spent his days weaving. When she reached adulthood, her father chose a husband: Hikoboshi (Altair), who was also a hard worker, whose job was to feed oxen through the shores of the Celestial River. For the two young people it was love at first sight but taken from love and passion, they also forgot about their duties. As a result, Orihime no longer wove his canvas, leaving the gods without clothes, and Hikoboshi’s oxen roamed uncontrollably across the sky. This unleashed the anger of Tentei and the two lovers were separated on the two sides of the Celestial River and forced to return to their duties. The princess was so desperate that Tentei, moved, allowed the two to meet, only once a year, the seventh day of the seventh month. Since then, a flock of magpies come every year, and they create a bridge with their wings, so that Orihime can cross the Celestial River and re-embrace his beloved Hikoboshi.

Round of Lebole

The round earrings of the The Circle collection by Lebole Gioielli ♦︎
The round shape is the perfect geometry, which has no beginning and no end. And it is also the most used form in jewelry, starting from the ring. But not only. Even the earrings have one of the most recurrent forms in the ring. As in the case of the The Circle collection by Lebole Gioielli. These are flat capsules printed on tinplate, the earrings are mounted in gold-plated brass and natural stones. Asymmetry, as in the tradition of the Tuscan brand, in this case is provided by the different images imprinted in the capsule. A curiosity: the flat capsule used is actually the metal disk that is located in the upper part of the cage that holds the caps of bottles of sparkling wine or champagne before being closed. But, in this case, they are not the result of Lebole designer’s toast: the capsules were made to the exclusive design of the Maison. Price: 35 euros. Lavinia Andorno

An anemone for Lebole

/

For Spring 2018 an Anemone blossoms among the earrings of Lebole Gioielli ♦ ︎
Spring returns and Lebole Gioielli returns to Japanese inspiration. The kimono silks, but also the taste for a meaningful simplicity, are the leitmotif of the Tuscan bijoux brand, especially for the earrings. And among the new proposals for spring 2018 here is the Anemone collection, designed and created for Lebole Gioielli by the Tuscan artist Paolo Perugini, a lover of Japanese art and long time collaborator of the small Maison. The Anemone earrings collection consists of an asymmetrical pair, in two sizes. The earrings use two different geometric figures as a base, on which the ideogram representing the word Anemone in the rectangle and Fiore in the triangle is etched. Not only: as in many collections of Lebole, the jewels are covered with ancient Japanese silks, spread over a very thin leather. In addition, a thin brass triangle attached to the free top is inserted into the earring. The triangle then moves freely along with the earring. The metal is brass galvanized gold, while the colored natural stones are combined with the fabrics used. Price: 120 euros.

Lebole, Tuscany to the finger

Lebole Gioielli extends the proposal to the rings dedicated to a classic Tuscan house ♦ ︎
Lebole Gioielli has conquered its space in the jewelery world by pointing almost exclusively on the earrings. For the autumn winter season 2017-2018, in fact, has prepared another burst of new collections. But also a surprise. For the first time, the Tuscan brand led by Barbara Lebole (along with her mother Nicoletta) is riding with the rings. The brand also sets aside her ability to use Japanese symbols and iconography: instead of the usual kimono, in this case she wears the own country. The collection of rings is called, in fact, Tuscany. Not only: it takes inspiration from Tuscan territory and uses Leopoldina as a volume for jewels.
Leopoldina is a type of house located in Tuscany. It has precise architectural features and originated during the reclamation of the Val di Chiana by the Grand Duke Peter Leopold II of Asburgo Lorraine (second half of the eighteenth century). They are homes that are part of the classic Tuscan landscape and feature a small tower in the center. Like the rings made in six variants: silver in galvanized gold, or with the addition of cubic zirconia blue, black, ruby, emerald green and white.
To the Austrian Grand Duke, which governed Tuscany, is also dedicated to a pair of asymmetrical earrings with black stones. On one side there is the profile of Pietro Leopoldo, on the other, the profile of a Leopoldina type building. Prices: simple ring 275 euro, cubic zirconia 300 euro. Earrings: large model 220 euro, smaller version 160 euro.

Lebole come back to Japan

Samurai and flowers in the new collection The Circle by Lebole Jewelry ♦ ︎
The East seen through the eyes of Barbara Lebole, who together with her mother Nicoletta leads the Tuscan brand, is always wrapped in a mystery, linked to traditions, a bit imaginary. The new collection of popular earrings (28 euros) is called The Circle and is made with flat capsules printed on tinplate, mounted in galvanized brass gold and natural stones. Asymmetry is given by the various images imprinted in the capsule. Here again, Japan is the source of inspiration for Lebole, who among flowers and samurai has repeatedly used the kimono fabric to make earrings. In short, Japan over a century ago, where lay and spiritual traditions were intersected to form austere lifestyle, but where delicacy and discretion were values to be cultivated. And when the sushi had not been invented yet. Other times. Giulia Netrese

Lebole between Gothic and Romance

Gothic, but romantic: skulls and shamrocks, butterflies and crosses in the new Lebole Gioielli line.
Barbara Lebole, owner together her mother Nicoletta of jewelry brand that bears their name, for years he collects skulls. At home she has several but her children, she says, aren’t impress at all. It is therefore with a light heart that the small Tuscan Maison presented the Gotico Romantico, where also appear stylized skulls. Although the dark atmosphere is balanced by signs less gloomy: there are the skulls, all right, but also butterflies, crosses and shamrocks. Dominant colors, not surprisingly, are black and gold.

The style recalls the nineteenth century passion for stories of ghosts and vampires, and probably will find a warm welcome from the passionate of the Twilight series and the like. Silver, worked with a special galvanic subtraction, which alternates shiny areas of the opaque metal embroidery, black natural stone, until the components used to make pairs of earrings, all asymmetric, choker necklaces and velvet.

Lebole evolution

Not only silk: for Lebole comes the time for gold, silver and stones.
From kimono fabric to the spinel and the pavé zirconia: Lebole, Tuscan company with a penchant for earrings, expands its offering. It continues to afford a line made with the use of fine Japanese silk, but at the same time diversifies collections. Two strands: the high-end earrings, with prices that reach to 390 euros, and a young line of bracelets and necklaces with modular elements, with prices starting at 40 Euros. The earrings that you see in the photos are the most disruptive innovations, as they say now. They are made with whites zircons, or blacks spinel, using a technique that involves the union of small stones with the metal in the time of processing, immediately after the merger. No glue, in short, to have the guarantee of a longer life of the jewel. The Potiche line, which we have already spoken here) is enriched in turn pieces made in silver engraved, gold-plated and natural stones. The price for the pair of earrings is, in this case, of 225 euros.

The geometric puzzle of Lebole

Those who have a soft spot for women in Lebole can take a look at the Quadrature of the circle: it is not a problem of theoretical geometry, but the name of the jewelry line, consisting of earrings and a necklace, signed by the Tuscan brand. Lebole Jewellery, in fact, presents a series of earrings starting from the circle, the perfect shape to wear on the lobe. But with a difference: the decoration is not symmetrical. On the one hand, in fact, the shape is formed by a circle classic, while for the other earring is square. Furthermore, an earring is made with the use of cloth, that of Japanese kimono, while the earring consideration is formed by a cabochon. The jewelry is made of gilded silver. The stones are natural and Japanese fabrics are defined as ‘ancient’. The necklace is made with the same elements round and square earrings. Price: earrings 110 euro, necklace 275 euro. M.d.B.

Lebole returns to Japan

Lebole Gioielli has experienced great success with her earrings that use exotic fabrics, colors, and style is not traditional. Now the story continues with the new collection Mito, consisting of a pair of asymmetrical earrings with a Dragon King by a lobe and a Torii other. It is made with a thirst for ancient Japanese kimonos, spread out on a wooden base lacquered with ancient Eastern methods. The jewelry are available in six different colors, mounted exclusively in 925 silver. The earrings are inspired by Japanese stories and legends. Here, then, the explanation Lebole: the Torii is the traditional gateway from which you enter a sanctuary or simply in a sacred area. The Dragon King Ryu lives in his mansion located at the bottom of the sea, near the Ryukyu Islands. The legendary palace, built in red and white coral, protected by the Dragons, is full of treasures. Fish and other sea creatures serve Ryu as vassals and turtles are used as messengers. In the north of the castle snow falls throughout the year, in the east there is the room where the Spring flying butterflies and cherry is always in bloom, while in the south there is the room where the crickets sing in the Summer warm evenings. Finally, in the western part of the building where there is the room of Autumn maples they have bright colors. For a human being one day in this building amounts to 100 years on earth. The price for each pair of earrings is 110 euro. Sayonara. Federico Graglia

Newness by Lebole: the jewel cities

The first monument represented in the new collection of jewelry by Lebole, named De Architectura, could only be the Duomo of Milan. A jewel that is a tribute to Expo 2015, consists of a pair of earrings round and asymmetrical: a disk covered with a spotted fabric in the shape of Italy golden metal and the other in the world map of the world with the silhouette of the Milanese cathedral. From here starts the series inspired by the most famous theorist of architecture, ie Virtruvio, and to his treaty from which takes its name the line; then it will be the turn of Rome, with the Colosseum, Venice and then follow all the jewel cities  of the Peninsula. From the dotty quote, a constant in the production by Nicoletta and Barbara Lebole, with fabrics of the  eighteenth-century Bourbon factory and the ancient kimonos of previous collections, to the next level with the use of silver: «It was a choice we have fro make as the positioning up to continue to grow and enter the jewelers who keep only objects in precious metals, no brass or bronze.

They are increasingly, especially in Italy and this is a positive signal», says Barbara Lebole. «So we decided to create collections in silver with our features: asymmetrical earrings repeating one of the historical  most successful motifs, the kimono and the ideogram, that are unique pieces because the silk, applied on the silver through  our patent technique, is always different. In addition, we introduced a variant in white , black and green glossy or matt enamel, all colors of Art Deco from which takes its name this line. Even prices are higher and therefore are between 150 and 200 euro». In short, the idea is simple: better to be the jewel cheaper in a store of fine jewelry rather than more expensive in a shop with a target a bit lower. Here pictures and prices. Monica Battistoni
