Deheres, the maximum without borders

High jewelery in Hong Kong, Italy, France and Belgium: the international history of Dehres ♦ ︎

Living in Edinburgh, but staying in Hong Kong, traveling to New York, stopping in Antwerp, working in Tel Aviv. This strange global combination is the normal status of Dehres, an important global supplier of large diamonds, but also of high-end jewelery. The company is owned by the Zion family. By the way: if you wonder what the name Deheres means, know that it is simply the acronym of the initials of the Zion family: Daniela, Ephraim (the founder), Hannah, Ronen, Erez and Simon.

Working in the large diamond trade has given jewelers an advantage in making big jewels.

But there are not only diamonds: even the classic precious stones, as long as they are of exceptional quality and size, are the heritage of Deheres, who has design and manufacture of jewels in France and Italy, as well as in Hong Kong, where the company is based in Edinburgh Tower Landmark. Needless to add that jewels of this type are at the top not only for quality, but also for price. The style of the jewels is the classic one: gold, impeccable cuts, no savings on the price.

Ephraim Zion started in Israel as a diamond cutter. He then moved to New York to become one of the most sought after diamond cutters known. In 1971, at the age of 25, he joined his family in the Asia-based diamond and gemstone trade. The company has become one of the largest suppliers in Asia in just a few years.

The Chinese Qeelin brand at Place Vendôme

///

Qeelin, a Chinese brand owned by the Kering group, opens its first showcase on Place Vendôme ♦ ︎

A Chinese jewelery company in the Olympus of high jewelry? Yes, Qeelin opened its showcase on the prestigious Place Vendôme in Paris. Not everyone in Europe knows Qeelin. And it is true that he is Chinese, but not only. It was born in China, in fact, because it was founded in 2004 by Dennis Chan and Guillaume Brochard. And it is based in Hong Kong, but in 2013 it was bought by the French luxury group Kering, which already owns brands like Boucheron, Pomellato, Dodo, as well as those of fashion.

Qeelin’s jewels often use mystical symbols or lucky charms that are part of Chinese culture, with the philosophy «East meets the West». The name Qeelin, for example, derives from Qilin, the name of a fantastic Chinese animal and an icon of love. The Chinese Maison opened its first store in Taiwan in 2009 and in Shanghai in 2010. Then, in 2015, the landing in the United States, initially to satisfy Chinese residents in North America. The opening in Place Vandôme, in short, represents a surprising goal, even if the brand had already opened a boutique at the Jardin du Palais Royal. One of the flagship collections is dedicated to Wulu, a magical symbol linked to many legends, lucky charm and positive energy in China, with a shape that echoes the curves of the number 8.

Incredible Mr. Lieou

Mr. Lieou is one of the most innovative designers of the moment (and of the coming years) ♦ ︎

He is one of the most interesting and innovative designers. And it is easy to bet that it will be a point of reference for the new generation of jewelers, which now faces the highest level. Not only that: Mr. Lieou also represents, in a certain sense, the new face of the world, with its mixture of cultures, ethnicities and experiences. Born in Hong Kong, Nicholas Lieou was educated in Germany, Switzerland, Singapore and San Francisco. And it’s a perfect mix of aesthetic without boundaries, which adds up his experiences in New York and London, where he graduated from the Royal College of Art.

Lieou debuts in 2019 with its Maison. But his activity started years ago: he worked for brands like Louis Vuitton, Georg Jensen and Shanghai Tang, before being appointed, in 2015, as Director of design for high jewelry and custom design by Tiffany. An incredible, fast, exceptional career. But it was not enough for Mr. Lieou’s skills, which has debuted at the recent GemGèneve with his work. Very original, very creative, very remarkable.

As you can see from these images, it is truly jewelry without borders, with a bold technique that uses titanium, gold, diamonds, precious stones. There is no trace of orientalism: the designer’s Chinese roots are rather fused in a style that leads minimalism to expand like an erupting volcano, between French baroque and Rococo. It is no coincidence that he presented two lines of jewelry: Minimalist and Maximalist. Write down the name of Mr. Lieou on your diary.

The first 100-carat diamond for crypto at Sotheby’s

Sooner or later it had to happen: bitcoin and ethereum enter the world of great jewelry. Or, rather, they are now virtual currencies accepted in a super auction like the one organized by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. On the other hand, there is already NFT virtual art, paid for in millions of dollars. In fact, Sotheby’s has announced that it will accept a cryptocurrency payment for one of the rarest and largest diamonds. It is a 101.38 carat pear-shaped cut D Flawless classified stone. Diamonds of this magnitude are exceptionally rare, with fewer than ten over 100-carat specimens ever auctioned, only two of them pear-shaped. The fact that the cryptocurrency is accepted as payment also marks a significant moment in the evolution of the market: no other physical object with an estimate even approaching 10-15 million dollars (78-118 million Hong Kong dollars) has never been publicly offered for purchase with cryptocurrency.

Diamante D Flawless con taglio a forma di pera da 101,38 carati
Diamante D Flawless con taglio a forma di pera da 101,38 carati

This is a truly symbolic moment. The oldest and most emblematic denominator of value can now, for the first time, be bought using humanity’s new universal currency. There has never been a better time to bring a world-class diamond like this to market.
Wenhao Yu, vice president of Sotheby’s Jewelery in Asia

Extremely rare, 100-carat diamonds have reached a mythical status, and pear-shaped ones have a particular resonance, also because their cut echoes that of Cullinan I, perhaps the most famous diamond in the world, currently kept in the Tower of London and mounted in the imperial scepter of Great Britain. Pear-shaped diamonds of this stature are of great rarity on the market, with only two appearing at auction to date. This, recently dubbed The Key 10138, is the second largest pear-shaped diamond ever to hit the public market. The diamond’s name, The Key 10138, was chosen to capture both the past and the present and the future. Historically, keys, like diamonds, have been a symbol of power and the freedom that comes with it. Now, digital type keys are critical to the functioning of cryptocurrency.

The diamond will be offered in a single lot live sale at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on July 9, with offers open online from June 25, 2021. Cpme early, Sotheby’s will also accept payment in ethereum or bitcoin, the two most popular cryptocurrencies, via Coinbase Commerce, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world.

The diamond is currently visible by appointment at Sotheby’s in New York and will be on display at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery from 3 to 8 July. The stone will be the main lot of the Luxury Edit sale in Asia, bringing together some of the best luxury items available on the market, from jewelry to watches, handbags and rare sneakers.

Over the past year we have found a voracious appetite for jewelry and other luxury items from collectors around the world. This question comes more and more from a younger, digital-born generation; many of which are in Asia. We are thrilled to present this exceptional diamond as the highlight of our Luxury Edit series of different categories in Hong Kong and to continue our commitment to innovation by accepting cryptocurrency payments for this historic article.

A pink diamond for Sotheby’s

x

The great auctions of great jewels for great bank accounts are back. On April 20, Sotheby’s Hong Kong presents its Magnificent Jewels which includes brightly colored diamonds and precious stones. The highest-valued piece is a 7-carat deep purplish pink fancy diamond ring, estimated at $ 5.8 to $ 7.1 million. But a bracelet with 63.66-carat diamonds and rock crystal by Cartier will certainly attract attention. It is in Art Deco style and is part of the L’Odyssée de Cartier – Parcours d’un Style collection: the estimate is between 5.1 million and 8.4 million dollars. The Parisian Maison also presents an exclusive 23.48 carat dark pinkish orange fancy diamond ring. Or a jewelery set with white diamonds and Colombian emeralds.

As always at auctions in Hong Kong, jadeite jewelry, a highly sought-after stone in Asia, will be offered for sale. Among these, a perfectly circular bracelet stands out, a unique piece of fine jade. The auction also includes jewelry from Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel, Chopard, Graff, Harry Winston, Hermes and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Giada beats diamonds at Sotheby’s auction

Top and flop at the high jewelery auction organized by Sotheby’s in Hong Kong. In summary: disappointment with precious stones, enthusiasm for jade. Overall, however, the sale of Magnificent Jewels totaled over $ 39.2 million, which is no small amount. To disappoint, in particular, were jewels considered the bestq pieces. Starting with the ring with a 118.88 carat unheated cushion cut Royal Blue Burmese sapphire, ranked at the top of its category. The jewel was withdrawn without being sold. Identical destiny for a vivid blue diamond with a flawless pear-shaped interior of 4.84 carats, set in a platinum and rose gold ring next to two brilliant-cut diamonds. Estimated at $ 8.4 million, it found no buyers

And not sold were also two pear-shaped disassembled diamonds weighing 15.83 and 15.25 carats, estimated at 2.5 million. So far the flops. But the successes are also to be recorded. Jade, a stone that is legendary in Asia, got its revenge with a necklace of 43 imperial jadeite pearls, a name reserved for the highest quality stone, which sold for 8.1 million dollars. But, in truth, a 5.22-carat brilliant-cut fancy deep blue diamond, set on a platinum and white gold ring, also sold for 4.4 million, just above its highest estimate.

Success also for a 6.41-carat unheated pigeon blood-colored Burmese ruby, mounted on an 18-karat yellow and white gold ring and surrounded by diamonds, designed by Forms, a high-end jewelery house in Hong Kong. The jewel was sold for 2.8 million dollars. Somewhat surprisingly, however, an 18-karat white and rose gold ring designed by Nicholas Lieou was not awarded, with a 24.88-carat jadeite cabochon paired with a 2.08-carat fancy vivid oval purplish pink diamond . Er estimated to be up to $ 1.9 million. Federico Graglia

The Japanese who gives super diamonds to his daughters

A super diamond for every daughter. The Japanese buyer of the 102.39-carat flawless oval D Color diamond, sold at auction at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong, has decided to name the gem Maiko Star, after his second daughter. The same collector had already purchased another 88.22 carat diamond, also from Sotheby’s, in April 2019. In this case he had called it by the name of his first daughter: Manami Star. The paternal gift had a non-negligible price, even if it is not an absolute record: the equivalent of 15.7 million US dollars.

The diamond was offered without reserve, and was the first auction of its kind for a lot of this importance and intrinsic value. The diamond has attracted tremendous interest and a flurry of offers, quickly taking it from 1 million Hong Kong dollars to over 100 million. Some of these bids were also placed online, the highest of which was Hong Kong $ 85 million (US $ 10.97 million). The highest offer ever made on an online jewel. The winning one, however, came with the traditional telephone from a private collector in Japan.

This extraordinary gem did not need the help of a quote or pre-sale reserve to reach the right price, just the instinctive desire of collectors to own one of the greatest treasures on earth. We are grateful to Diacore for their trust and confidence in allowing us to offer this diamond without reserve, the result of which testifies not only to the importance of this diamond, but to the diamond market more generally.

Perfect by every critical criterion, this gem has reached the highest rankings under each of the standards by which the quality of a diamond is judged (the four Cs). The diamond is of color D (the highest grade for a white diamond); of exceptional clarity (it is completely flawless, both internally and externally), and has an excellent sheen and symmetry, the most sought after gradation for the category of oval shapes. Diamond belongs to the rare subgroup comprising less than 2% of all gem diamonds, known as Type IIa. Diamonds in this group are the chemically purest type of diamond and often have exceptional optical clarity.

The 102.39-carat diamond was cut from a 271-carat rough stone discovered in the Victor mine, Ontario, Canada, in 2018. Super sapphire Royal Blue at Sotheby’s auction

While the West zigzags in an attempt to avoid coronavirus blockages, in the East a climate of normality is returning. It is no coincidence that the sales of luxury goods have restarted, as evidenced by the auctions of Magnificent Jewels. Sotheby’s after announcing the sale in a single lot of a 102.39 carat D Color Flawless Oval cut diamond, with the unreserved offer formula, on 7 October offers another rarity in the mythical world of 100 carat stones: one 118.88 carat unheated Royal Blue Burmese sapphire. This is the largest Royal Blue Burmese sapphire offered by Sotheby’s in the past two decades. The gem estimate has not been given, but it is for sure at six zeros.

In the same auction it is also interesting to observe the interest in jewels of two avant-garde designers: the Forms brand, which features a spectacular Burmese ruby, and Nicholas Lieou, virtuoso of pearls.

We are excited to present another exceptional season of Magnificent Jewels, and offer some of the world’s finest gemstones – a 118.88 carat Burmese sapphire, one of the largest Burmese sapphire ever offered at Sotheby’s, and a 6.41 carat Unheated Burmese ‘Pigeon’s Blood’ ruby ring designed and mounted by FORMS, sourced from important private collections. The jewellery market has proven to be highly resilient, with our clients in Asia eyeing the best quality jewels on offer. This auction is distinguished by invaluable treasures that will surely dazzle collectors across the region and beyond.

The eighth king of diamonds at Sotheby’s auction

Super diamond auctions are back. This time it will be Sotheby’s to offer a rare stone for sale: a large 102.39 carat oval D Color Flawless diamond. Only seven Internally Flawless or Flawless D-color white diamonds over 100 carats were sold at auction, the latest of these for 11.9 million dollars.. This is the eighth. The diamond will be offered “without reserve” on October 5 in Hong Kong: it means that the winning bid is the highest bid, regardless of its amount or the intrinsic value of the diamond itself. It is an unprecedented move and marks the first time in auction history that a diamond of this caliber, or indeed any work of art or object of this importance and intrinsic value, has been offered in this way.

It has been a profoundly transformative few months for the auction market. We have been at the forefront of change in the Fine Art and Watches categories, with new and pioneering auction formats, and this season we want to extend this approach to our jewelry sales. The economy offers many opportunities to do things differently: demand showed enormous resilience during the first part of the year and we believe it is time to let the market speak. Diamonds of this caliber attract interest far beyond the traditional pool of collectors. This groundbreaking sale seems like the best way to introduce this exceptional diamond to the world in the current circumstances where travel is limited and serves as a great indicator of the vitality of demand.

This stunning diamond is the best of the best when it comes to exceptional white diamonds and it’s hard to overstate its rarity and beauty. Never before has the appreciation for world-class diamonds been so acute in the world and more and more people have come to realize that something billions of years old and the size of a lollipop can hold so much value a self-portrait by Rembrandt. or a Basquiat. The broader understanding that, being the hardest material on earth, this wonder of nature will survive us for another million years is certainly another factor in the strength of the demand.

The Diana Zhang orchids and bamboo

The Diana Zhang flowers: a masterpiece with emeralds, 2700 tsavorites and 5500 diamonds

She was the first woman designer, Chinese, to be invited at the prestigious Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris, in 2014, alongside classic names such as Boucheron, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels. Diana Zhang won this privilege thanks to his art (you can not call it otherwise) in composing jewels that are pieces of great aesthetic value, as well as precious. Now the Chinese designer who is based in Hong Kong reinterprets shapes and colors of orchids turning them into brooches and necklaces. The collection is called Orchid King.

Born in the Northeast of China, Zhang Diana moved to Guangzhou with his family. He then studied at Gia and in 2013, at Baselworld, Switzerland, met Cyrille de Foucaud, Ceo of the store chain of the French jewelry Martin Du Daffoy. They became friends and started working together. In a trip to Hong Kong, Cyrille de Foucaud visited Diana’s workshop and appreciated his amazing designs: Diana has designed a series of collections inspired by a unique theme: One year in China. The seasons of the year and the related color mutations have been transformed so in pieces of fine jewelry. The style is the result of the marriage between Eastern tradition and evolution of western jewelry. Her work it is never trivial. The collection Orchid King, for example, has occupied more than two years of work and was carried out with Colombian emeralds, 5,500 diamonds and 2,700 tsavorites, encrusted in a titanium bezel and 18K gold. The blue diamond that enchanted Hong Kong

Eternal charm of the blue color: diamonds with this ethereal shade are very rare and, obviously, highly sought after. In Hong Kong, the auction organized by Christie’s saw a 12.11 carat blue diamond, marquise cut, was sold for $ 15.9 million, compared to the pre-sale estimate between 8 million and 12 million. And all after 15 minutes of raising. A sign that investing in diamonds, if it is exceptional stones, is still a goal for those who have a great deal of money. But, be careful: not all diamonds have the same charm.

At the same auction, for example, a colorless, flawless, rectangular step-shaped diamond of 17.95 carats was sold only for 1.6 million. In short, despite this diamond being perfect and weighing over 5 carats more than the blue one, it was valued at over 14 million less. While another much smaller blue diamond, only 2 carats, was sold for almost the same price: 1.5 million. A sign that the price of diamonds is really conditioned by criteria that are not always rational.

Among the other jewels sold, a necklace with a 19.53-carat Burmese star ruby pendant, as well as other rubies and diamonds, a jewel signed by Edmond Chin for Etcetera: the ruby is detachable and can be worn as a ring. The jewel was purchased for 2.7 million. Also from Etcetera, a bracelet with a very original design was sold, featuring two large stones: an amethyst and an oval cut sapphire. A pair of jadeite, ruby and diamond earrings were sold for just under 1.3 million.

A blue diamond to conquer Hong Kong

The great jewels are back: Christie’s organizes the first auction in Hong Kong with the physical presence of buyers for Magnificent Jewels in the post-covid 19 era. Although, in truth, the city has long been grappling with another equally hot problem, but linked to protests against the Beijing government. In any case, on 9 July the auctioneer of the British auction house will raise the hammer to allocate a large blue diamond ring, valued up to 12 million US dollars to a buyer.

Blue diamonds are particularly rare. The one put up for auction by Christie’s is described as deep blue, 12.11 carats, marquise cut, flawless internally. A second blue diamond, also marquise cut, but of 2.08 carat is also at auction: it is estimated at between 900,000 and 1.2 million dollars. A 7.02 carat fancy vivid yellow VS1 diamond ring could get up to $ 650,000.

The sale of Magnificent Jewels in Hong Kong will also include, as always, jadeite jewels, particularly appreciated on the Chinese market, as well as pieces from famous Maison. Another particularly awaited gem is a 19.53-carat Burmese star ruby pendant by Edmond Chin for Etcetera, estimated at between $ 2.3 million and $ 3.5 million. Among the most anticipated jewels there are also a 6.06 carat Burmese ruby ring and diamond ring, which is expected to be purchased between 800,000 and 1.2 million and a jadeite bracelet valued between $ 1.1 and 1.6 millions.

In 2012 he founded two companies: Senso Italiano, dedicated to design and art (which became a second job) and Giamore, for the production of jewelery with a tailor-made service. Finally, he moved to Singapore, where he married: marriage (and children) convinced him to stop in the city-state. Giamore specializes in the research and acquisition of rare stones, especially colorless and colored diamonds, in the production of bespoke or fine jewelry, but in parallel continues the service activity for the big brands, for example to resize the jewelry on Asian customer measurements. Stelo, Floro and Rozo: three new diamond cuts

/

Three new diamond cuts introduced by the Indian Hini Star. The record is 91 facets ♦ ︎

There are traditions that seem immutable. A diamond, for example, is forever. But only since, in 1947, De Beers launched an advertising campaign with this slogan. Even the most popular diamond cut, the brilliant, has no secular tradition, but began to spread only in the early 1900s.

But the evolution has not ended, according to the Hong Kong-based Indian diamond manufacturer, Hini Star. A few weeks ago, in fact, the company presented three new diamond cuts, which are part of a series called Optica. The three newcomers are called Stelo, Rozo and Floro, but the Optica series includes 18 new diamond cuts, which will be presented later.

According to Smit Virani, chief operating officer of Hini Star, each of the cuts in the series has patented symmetrical optical motifs that are the result of over 30 years of research, development and innovation. The cuts offer overall lighting performance that has never existed before. In any case, diamonds are offered with Giae certificate with a scientific evaluation regarding brightness (reflected light) and light symmetry. The new cuts, according to Hini Star, have been developed thanks to the new digital tools, which have allowed us to calculate new parameters that enhance the optical properties of the stone.

The reflections for the three cuts are also inspired by real images: star (Stelo), rosa (Rozo) and flower (Floro). Stelo has 91 facets, a record (the brilliant-cut diamond has 57). Rozo is limited to 56 facets, while Floro reaches 77: a possible result only with the new, modern diamond-cutting machines.

How much Butani shines

///

The jewelery and the brightest pieces by Butani, an Indian jeweler from Hong Kong ♦

Trunk Show in Doha for Butani, an Indian jeweler from Hong Kong. In Qatar, Butani presented the most recent and sparkling pieces of his catalog. The history of this Maison is different from the others. In 1969 Papu Butani left Mumbai to go in Hong Kong, with great difficulty. Despite everything, however, over the years he has managed to create a high jewelery brand, specializing in particular in diamond jewels. Thanks to the great eye, great flair and great entrepreneurial ability, Butani Jewelery has grown to employ over a hundred people. The founder is now joined by his two sons Manoj and Mukesh, but his trademark has not changed.

The style of his jewelry is ambivalent. On the one hand, he prefers jewels with an enormous use of precious, large and demanding stones. It is the kind of jewelry that is very popular in the East and brings with it the tradition of Indian style compositions. But at the same time, Butani also produces classic evening jewels, based on diamonds and precious stones, of international taste. As evidenced by the jewels brought to Doha. Lavinia Andorno

The latest from Wallace Chan

The new creations by Wallace Chan, with his indestructible ceramic, on show in London ♦ ︎

The teacher. The artist. The innovator. Wallace Chan is all three of these definitions at the same time. For example, just a couple of years ago he developed an incredible indestructible porcelain and five times harder than steel, a material that allows him to create jewelry, but also sculptures, which could not be made with other materials.

And for the European public, Wallace Chan presents some of his most recent (and rarefied) jewelry creations in London. The exhibition is entitled Shapeshifter: The Multiverse of Wallace Chan (September 14-17, Asia House). It is also the third and final stage of this traveling exhibition, over time arrived at 20 pieces, with unbreakable porcelain. In addition, the exhibition includes ten large titanium sculptures, the metal favorite of the Hong Kong artist-jeweler. Another invention of the jeweler is the Wallace Cut, a technique of engraving in a transparent stone or crystal, which combines faceting and carving techniques. The result of this delicate work is a multidimensional optical illusion, which reveals four additional images of the incision if they are observed on the front face.

Some of these pieces have already been presented in New York and Hong Kong, others are new. Among the most interesting pieces is the Garden of Dreams pin, which uses porcelain that is repeatedly carved and baked. The filaments of the flower are in blue-green titanium and the anthers are made with red precious stones. The first creation with the special porcelain is, instead, a ring entitled A New Creation, which combines white porcelain with blue sapphire, aquamarines and pavé diamonds. Federico Graglia

The collection consists of a dozen jewels inspired by the musical and cultural environment between East and West, virtually united by the Silk Road, the ancient trade route that came from China to Europe. The choice of the subject, among other things, involved Anna Hu, who studied cello as a girl, a career interrupted due to a shoulder injury as a girl.

The pieces at the auction are real masterpieces, starting with the Dunhuang Pipa Necklace, with an intense yellow fantasy diamond of 100.02 carats supplied by Sotheby’s. The estimate of the jewel is 5-6.25 million dollars. The name can be misleading: the shape of this necklace resembles a Chinese pipe, which is a musical instrument similar to a lute, with four strings. It is in 18-carat white gold, with a sparkling pavé of diamonds running along the neckline. The artist – designer Hu said he was inspired by images of women playing piping in Dunhuang, an oasis for travelers in the desert area of northwestern China along the Silk Road. The necklace can be transformed into brooch and earrings. But the other jewels are equally exceptional. Federico Graglia

Although it weighs only 3.43 carats, a fancy vivid pink diamond mounted on a Moussaieff ring and surrounded by pear-shaped and marquise-shaped white diamonds, jokingly called Bubble Gum Pink, was the most requested jewelry for the sale of Magnificent Jewels in Hong Kong organized by Christie’s, which totaled 44.4 million. The Bulgari necklace was also well received with a diamond F, 11.69 carats pear-shaped IF and a brilliant blue-green diamond of 1.02 carat, sold for 1.6 million. No buyer, instead, for a highly anticipated jewel: a brooch with a Kashmir sapphire of 26.41 carats, not heated. It was estimated between 4 and 6.5 million, but found no buyer. Federico Graglia

Ming’s fusion jewels

British fusion designer Ming, between Europe and Asia, and her magnificent jewels for connoisseurs ♦

Blue eyes, pink skin, London accent. Her name is Ming. Ming Lampson, British designer, but born in Hong Kong, a former colony of Her Majesty. Now, however, she lives and works in London, with a (well-deserved) reputation as a very exclusive designer. She sells her creations only to those who understand them, she explains to gioiellis.com, because conceiving and creating a jewel is like creating a work of art that, which can be appreciated only by those who know the value and characteristics of stones and work behind a pair of earrings or a necklace.

Ming, Wisteria necklace
Ming, Wisteria necklace

Speaking of necklaces: in GemGèneve Ming showed a truly exceptional one, which reproduces a wisteria plant: white gold, diamonds, sapphires.

Ming learned about gems in Jaipur, India, where she was an apprentice of a local goldsmith, but also studied jewelry design at London’s Sir John Cass college, diamond appraisal at the Gemmological Association of London, and colored stones and pearls at Gia in the United States. She began her activity as a designer in 1998 and opened her atelier in Notting Hill, London, in 2007, specifically creating custom-made jewelry.

In addition, her birth in Asia led her to create jewelry by merging her Chinese roots with her British education and European craftsmanship. The Wisteria necklace is an example of this fusion. But she is also attracted by the delicate Japanese minimalism, as evidenced by the two collections, Oriental Garden and Reverence for Nature, both inspired by the Far East. Each collection consists of 15 unique pieces, all imbued with Ming’s aesthetics.

Pink and blue colored diamonds, large jewels, sapphire brooches and, of course, jade jewelry at Christie’s auction in Hong Kong ♦ ︎

Magnificent Jewels in Hong Kong on May 28th. Under the lens of enthusiasts, a collection of jewels and stones with a particularly lively character is outlined. Starting with the 3.01-carat pink diamond mounted on a ring signed Moussaieff and estimated at between 6 and 8 million dollars. And for those who do not like pink, here is the ring with a fancy vivid blue diamond of 3.01 carats, estimated between 4.7 and 7 million dollars. In large Asian auctions, pieces of large precious stones are never missing. And here is the Grand Muzos, a pair of earrings with natural Colombian emerald of 23.34 and 23.18 carats respectively, which according to experts are worth between 3.8 and 6.5 million dollars. The name Grand Muzos comes from the area of Muzo, Coscuez and Chivor in Colombia, source of the best emeralds in the world.

At Hong Kong auctions, jade jewelry, the most loved stone in Asia, it’s a must. In this case the catalog includes a necklace of jadeite beads (2-3.2 million dollars) and a jadeite cabochon ring (580-800.000 dollars): the stones have saturated colors and transparent crystalline structure.

Among the jewels of the great European Maisons, a Bulgari necklace of diamonds, with a blue-green diamond, is valued between 1.6 and 2.3 million dollars. Finally, Christie’s highlights the importance of an untreated Kashmir sapphire brooch with 26.42 carats (4-6.5 million). In Kashmir the finest sapphires have been found (the mine is now exhausted), adored for their rich cornflower blue color. This sapphire is the largest ever offered on the market. Lawful to expect battle for its conquest. Federico Graglia
