Anita Ko chokers

The choker with diamonds by Anita Ko, a Los Angeles designer loved by Hollywood stars ♦ ︎

Anita Ko is a Los Angeles-based designer who founded her own jewelry company in 2006. She was immediately successful, thanks to the consensus received by a host of Hollywood actresses and stars, such as Huntington-Whiteley, Jennifer Lawrence, Angelina Jolie , Naomi Watts, Jennifer Garner, Kerry Washington, Amber Heard, Charlize Theron, Victoria Beckham, Emma Watson, Rihanna and Johnny Depp. Perhaps the key to success was been to offer jewelry with a moderately innovative design. New, yes, but without exaggerating. Remaining, in short, in the field of classical jewelry. An example is that of this series of choker, short necklaces, which surround the base of the neck. Gold in the three colors white, pink or yellow, with diamonds and, in some models, also a precious stone: sapphire, ruby or emerald. What makes this classic shape new is the processing and composition of the stones. Prices: if you like these chokers, be prepared to spend between $ 25,000 and $ 65,000. Lavinia Andorno

Piaget, Exalting Sight

//

The line of high jewelery by Piaget which is part of the new Sunlight Escape collection ♦

The large Sunlight Escape collection, Piaget’s high jewelery, consists of three lines: Warming Lights, Exalting Sights, and Dancing Nights. Here we talked about the first, Warming Lights. Now we can take a look at Exalting Sights.

Anello Infinite Blue in oro bianco 18K con 1 tormalina Paraiba del Mozambico taglio fancy (circa 24,73 carati), 28 diamanti taglio rosa forma rotonda (circa 1,42 carati) e 383 diamanti taglio brillante (circa 6,69 carati). Creazione unica

Exalting Sight
It celebrates the jewels by celebrating the pleasure of observing them. Here is Exalting Sights that, in Piaget’s intentions, is also a praise to nature. It should not be forgotten that this high-end jewelery line is part of the Sunlight Escape collection, linked to images of elusive, ambiguous, crepuscular lights. Like those of the countries of the North, where in summer the day never sets and in winter the light is fleeting. In Piaget’s gaze there is, therefore, a collier with an abstract graphic design that presents gems with different shades of blue (lapis lazuli, Paraiba tourmaline and aquamarine), which collide with waves of brilliant cut diamonds. Always in a winter atmosphere is conceived the watch in white gold and diamonds is colored by a coarse cut emerald of 1.8 carats and marquise cut emeralds, while two waves of diamonds close around the blue night sea created with lapis lazuli that form the dial of another timepiece. Remember an iceberg ring with brilliant cut diamonds on white gold embellished with a large fancy cabochon cut by 24.73 carats.
Other exceptional pieces of Exalting Sight: an 18.88 carat emerald is the heart of a necklace surrounded by diamonds of various sizes and worked gold. The green also shines in a cascade necklace with drops and satin elements embellished with a 7.50 carat emerald. Another model with brilliant-cut, fancy-cut pavé embraces the neck, displaying a deep blue sapphire.

Messika to the rhythm of Beyoncé

/

Messika to the rhythm of music, with Beyoncé wearing a sparkling diamond necklace ♦ ︎

It is not true that diamonds only appeal to those with a classic taste, starting with clothing. It’s testified by Beyoncé, who wore jewelry from the Parisian Maison Messika in the video of Everything is in Love, the first with her husband Jay-Z. He, the rapper, not to be outdone, wore a huge gold chain with pendant, under a jacket worn to his skin.
Beyoncé, however, after being photographed for the first time in 2014 with the ring of Glam’Azone in front of the enigmatic Gioconda, she has remained faithful to the Parisian jewelry house. In the video Beyoncé wore the Persian Drops set: a cascade of over 100 carats of diamonds. Perhaps a suggestion to her husband in view of her next birthday. The combination between Beyoncé and Messika has lasted for the last four years: the brand has proudly observed that the singer wears her jewels both on stage and off stage.

Rivière’s savoir faire

/

Other jewels from the Savoie Faire collection by Rivière, which presented new pieces with diamonds and sapphires at Couture Show ♦ ︎

Savoir Faire is a French expression that indicates the ability to know how to move, compare and speak in every circumstance. Especially when it comes to relationships between two people. In short, savoir faire is essential to meet the partner’s desire. The Roman Maison Rivière has dedicated to this way of saying a rather large collection of jewels. As happens when the choice meets the taste of the public, other pieces are added to the collection over time. In 2018, in particular, were presented a pair of earrings with gold fringe, a necklace in the same style, and three bracelets that are added to the many variations of the collection: all the pieces use gold, small diamonds to follow the perimeter of the jewels and pearls of different colors.
The combination between the pastel color of pearls and gold is a constant by Rivière. Which, however, does not stop there. At the Couture Show in Las Vegas, for example, the Maison presented new jewelry with the classic combination of diamonds and blue sapphires, jewels that perhaps have a greater impact on the American public. This is also a demonstration of savoir faire. Alessia Mongrando

The Mediterranean on the neck

The new bracelet by Selim Mouzannar presented at Couture and other novelties by the famous Lebanese jeweler ♦

It is when winter comes that increases the nostalgia for the water of the Mediterranean Sea. The blue waves of the sea where civilization was born, is now transformed into a necklace by Selim Mouzannar, designer of a Lebanese family of jewelers. Although it has outlets in France, United States, Great Britain and Switzerland, Selim Mouzannar has maintained his headquarters in Beirut, because of the link with the culture that overlooks the banks of the sea. To the sea, now, has dedicated a series of the same color of the crystal waters. According to the jeweler, in this jewel has summarized the different shades of blue Mediterranean: as the sea near the island of Hydra, in Greece, to Formentera in Spain, of the French Riviera… It took three months of work to compose the necklace Mediterranean, made in 18K yellow gold, diamonds, sapphires, aquamarines, turquoise. But, as you can see from the pictures, the creativity of the brand Lebanon does not stop there: he also won a prize at the Couture Awards in Las Vegas in 2016. Matilde de Bounvilles

The great scam of Nirav Modi

Nirav Modi fled to London seeking asylum in Britain. The biggest scam ($ 2.2 billion) linked to the jewelery world ♦ ︎

When summer comes, you can read more books with thriller stories. But sometimes you do not need to buy a book, just read the news. Which, in this case, concern the world of jewelry. And we do not talk about the usual theft in a jewelery store or in a house. This booty is much higher: 1.77 billion dollars, maybe 2.2. Other than Ocean Eleven or similar. And the most shocking aspect is that the alleged perpetrator is not just any robber, but one of the stars of fine jewelry: Nirav Modi.
Indian billionaire with a passion for diamonds, stones thats he knows well why he has lived many years in Antwerp, in order to follow the family’s trade, he has created one of the most exclusive high jewelery Maison. But at the beginning of 2018 he was the protagonist of a clamorous case of fraud. Now he claims political asylum in the United Kingdom, to escape the trial in India. Nirav Modi, in fact, disappeared already in February after the accusations emerged, which he called a “political persecution”.

nirav modi
Nirav Modi

The great deception
The accusation, however, is heavy. India’s second largest state bank, the Punjab National Bank (Pnb), claimed that two jewelry companies led by Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi with the Gitanjali Group had defrauded the bank for about $ 2, 2 billion. After this alarm, frauds arose towards other credit institutions such as State Bank of India, Union Bank, Axis Bank and Allahabad Bank, all exposed to the rich man and always smiling (now you understand why) Nirav Modi. The charges have led to an investigation that led to the closure of boutiques in India, starting from the Mumbai store, bank accounts and luxury cars. What’s more, it seems that Nirav Modi has played dirty even with the budgets of his company. An expert opinion on precious stones in stock, for example, has established that their value is only 27% of what was declared in the balance sheet. In short, Nirav Modi would have inflated the accounts of his precious empire by more than 70%.
The mechanism of fraud
But how did Nirav Modi and his uncle have $ 2 billion? The scam, from what has emerged, seems almost incredible. In essence, three companies linked to Modi and Gitanjali have asked for funds to pay for purchases of precious stones abroad. Fake purchases, though. Some bank officials let themselves be duped by the rich jeweler without following the right verification process. The loans, in short, were granted without checking whether they were covered by an insurance policy to cover a possible default. The scam went on from 2011 to January 2018, until a more diligent bank manager was not satisfied with the word of Nirav and associates. And a more in-depth check brought out the scam. Although it must be admitted that the strategy was brilliant. Like the diamonds. Federico Graglia

Christie’s first 50 years in Switzerland

The London auction house celebrates the first half-century of activity in Geneva and selects 50 exceptional pieces, including many jewels and stones ♦ ︎

Christie’s, founded in London in 1766 by James Christie, is the largest auction house in the world. But if has just exceeded the threshold of 160 years (congratulations), still has children around the world. This means detached offices that, over time, have taken on a major importance. Like the Geneva headquarters (with offices also in Zurich), which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018. A teen age if it is compared to the parent company. But this has not prevented in five decades to beat pieces of great value.
To celebrate the birthday, Christie’s has therefore decided to summarize the years of activity in Switzerland through 50 lots, the most amazing. They are not just jewels, of course, but stones, rings and earrings make up a good part of the best beaten lots. From 1968 to today were sold pieces as the black pearl necklace (year 1969) belonging to the socialite Nina Dyer, ex-wife of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza and Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan, passed under the hammer of the auctioneer. The black pearl necklace, on the occasion, was sold for 580,000 Swiss francs, but almost 30 years later, in 1997, it was re-sold at another Christie’s auction for 1.3 million francs.

La collana di perle nere appartenuta a Nina Dyer
La collana di perle nere appartenuta a Nina Dyer

There are also historical pieces, such as the earrings with pearls donated by Louis XIV of France to his lover Marie Mancini. Sold in Geneva for 320,000 francs in 1969, they have long been one of the most expensive pairs of earrings in the world.
Christie’s auctions in Geneva, magnificent jewels that attract fans and collectors, have often been moments that have determined international parameters. In 1973, for example, an imperial 31-pearl jade necklace produced 1,250,000 Swiss francs in Geneva, and instantly became the most expensive piece of jade ever sold at auction for the time.
Then there are diamonds that have made history. Like, in 1974, The Star of South Africa. The 47.69 carat gem, brought to light by a young shepherd and sold for 500 sheep, ten oxen and a horse, was sold for 1.6 million francs, an incredible price for those years. Another diamond that left an indelible memory was, in 1980, the Polar Star diamond. Christie’s Geneva sold this 41.28 carat cushioned diamond mounted on a Boucheron ring for a price of 8 million francs. The stone had previously belonged to Joseph Bonaparte.
In short, the jewels and exceptional stones sold in Geneva by Christie’s are many (you can find some on this page). The last of the series reported among the top 50 is the series The Art of de Grisogono, an incredible piece, composed of emeralds and a gigantic 163.41 carat diamond. Really magnificent. Allegra for 25 years with de Grisogono

The 25 years of de Grisogono celebrated with new pieces from the Allegra collection ♦
Someone says that life is beautiful. For Fawaz Gruosi, founder of de Grisogono, more than beautiful, the life is Allegra. This is the name of one of the successful collections of the Maison de Genève. But perhaps not everyone knows that Allegra is also the name of Gruosi’s eldest daughter, who became the muse of the collection.
Allegra is de Grisogono’s most enduring collection: it debuted in 2003. This is why it was chosen to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the high-end jewelery brand. Of course, new pieces have been added, as well as a jewel-watch that we have already anticipated in another article. The rings that celebrate the first 25 years of activity play on the shape of the spiral composed of intertwined rings and show the number of the birthday engraved. They are shiny bands of gold studded with precious stones that twist together without ever merging. But as the joy is not always the same, even the Allegra collection is divided into moods and shapes, different, even with the use of bands in colored leather or ceramic. And so, here they are Allegra Glow and Allegra Toi et Moi, which we will discuss in more detail in another article. Giulia Netrese

The flower of Casato

Three jewelry by Casato for the Night and Day collection: they are inspired by the frangipane flower ♦ ︎
Those who travel or live in tropical countries (but also in Sicily) are lucky enough to smell the fragrance of the frangipani flowers, a plant classified with the botanical name of plumeria. The flowers with white petals and yellow shades, in addition to being fragrant are particularly pleasant. And it is inspired by this flower that the Roman Maison Casato presented the Night and Day collection, which incorporates the shape of the flower, but with different colors. In short, they are not flowers with five white petals, but rings, earrings and pendants are made in rose gold with amethyst, topaz, rhodolite, as well as white and brown diamonds. A small line of diamonds is also present on the ring’s stem. Frangipani flower aside, the name of the collection suggests a use of both day and evening jewelry. And so for your skin you must choose the fragrance of the frangipane. Giulia Netrese

The synthetic diamonds of De Beers

/

De Beers in the business of synthetic diamonds: the giant will produce 500,000 carats a year ♦ ︎
If you think about it, the news is almost paradoxical: DeBeers, the global diamond colossus, now also offers artificial stones. If, so far, De Beers has appeared as the bitter enemy of artificial diamonds, he has now decided to sell them. As the Chinese general Sun Tzu wrote about 2500 years ago: if you can not beat the enemy, join him.
As we have written several times on Gioiellis.com, artificial diamonds are increasingly less distinguishable from natural ones. A simple gemological examination, even by an expert, is not able to indicate which diamond is true and which is false or, better, created in the laboratory. Only very few centers of analysis, with very expensive and difficult-to-use machines, are able today to determine if a stone has been extracted from a mine in Leshoto (for example) or produced in a factory in China or the USA.
So synthetic diamonds start to be sold more and more often, and are sometimes sold with certificates (fakes) that attest to their authenticity. Why, then, did have not invade the market? For two reasons. The first is that producing high quality synthetic diamonds is an expensive process and, therefore, the price is lower but not too much compared to a natural stone. The second is that an invasion of diamonds would have the effect of bringing down the price on the market and is a result that no company that trades in diamonds wants to achieve.
In short, now the artificial diamond is still forever? De Beers tries to dampen the clamor of the news: it will be, the company explains, a secondary business, marketed under the Lightbox brand. Maybe. But the fact is that to produce artificial diamonds De Beers has invested 94 million dollars for a synthetic diamond factory in Portland, Oregon (USA). And he already has another factory active in England. According to forecasts, the American plant will produce diamonds for 500,000 carats a year. De Beers’ synthetic diamonds will have an advantage: they will not be sold off for natural stones, a nightmare for jewelers and customers. Will they be appreciated by consumers? Federico Graglia

Pasquale Bruni black and white

Ton Jolì Femme, extension of the classic collection signed Pasquale Bruni: ring, sautoir, choker and brooch ♦ ︎
An extension is something that stretches, enlarges, expands. If it is a collection of jewelry, this also means that those who propose it have confidence in the success of that particular form of earrings, rings or bracelets. And it also means that extension is the direct consequence of a success. This is the case of the Ton Jolì collection by Pasquale Bruni. The extension of the jewelry line is called Ton Jolì Femme and is made with agate and mother of pearl, which make up the iconic shape of the Maison, the four-lobed flower. The jewels are made with the use of rose gold, with an area of pavé with white diamonds and champagne.
The stones have the soft irregular facets of the Bon Ton cut, exclusively created by Pasquale Bruni. The Ton Jolì Femme collection consists of a ring, earrings, necklace and brooch. The pendants are customizable with engravings, they can be worn with long sautoir or crew-neck, while the brooch can be combined with a refined night blue velvet chocker to create multiple looks. The collection is completed by a white and black set consisting of a ring and a necklace. Giulia Netrese

Two new collections of Coronet

At the Jck Las Vegas Coronet presents two new collections designed by Reena Ahluwalia ♦ ︎
Coronet, a Hong Kong brand that is part of the Aaron Shum group, has long been working with the Canadian designer Reena Ahluwalia. At JCK Las Vegas here are two new collections resulting from the synergy: the Alyssum Collection and Silver Soul Carousel.
Alyssum collection is centered on the shape of the flowers. A collection that Coronet defines as «light, easy, airy» and is inspired, in particular to alyssum, a flower with a sweet and persistent scent. According to Reena Ahluwalia, the four petals of Alyssum represent love, passion, dreams and hope. The jewels are also the testimony of the designer’s stylistic brand: the flower with a four-pointed star in the center. The jewels are available in 18-carat rose gold, or yellow and white, set with diamonds and in some cases with enamel. Reena, they explain to Coronet, used enamel to show the color, attitude and individual expressions that consumers seek today. Price: the Alyssum collection starts at $ 499.
Silver Soul Carousel is instead a collection that uses sterling silver together with Swarovski Created Stones. It’s a collection with affordable prices, starting at $ 299.
Also in Las Vegas, Coronet presents the Inner Brilliance Spinning Diamond collection, again designed by Reena Ahluwalia, the Guinness Book of Records presented at Baselworld in the shape of Coca-Cola, with almost 10,000 diamonds. Lavinia Andorno

Antonini brings Etna to Las Vegas

Antonini at the Couture in Las Vegas with new pieces from the Etna collection: gold, diamonds, black rhodium silver ♦ ︎
From the Etna of Antonini a new creative pouring. This time the precious magma will slide through the rooms of the Couture in Las Vegas. The Milanese brand driven by the creative hand of Sergio Antonini presents, in fact, new pieces of the Etna collection, already shown at VicenzaOro January. The style and technique of the collection recalls that used for Matera, a line that combines materiality with design. The pavé on the surface of the jewels, more dense or more sparse, seems composed of stones, actually diamonds positioned in a seemingly random manner. The new pieces are made of yellow, satin or polished gold, but also in black rhodium-plated silver, reminiscent of lava stone. Bracelets, earrings, rings also have a particular workmanship in their inner part, not visible, which manages to lighten the volume and, therefore, the weight of the jewel. Giulia Netrese

A cascade of diamonds at Christie’s

Diamonds, diamonds and more diamonds at Christie’s auction in Geneva: the charm of the most beloved stone is not falling ♦ ︎
A lot of raises, overwhelming estimates, competitions between buyers to buy the best pieces: Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva was exciting. Overall (but adding the concomitant wine and watches auctions) Christie’s sales totaled $ 98.2 million, with over 2,500 visitors at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, where events were organized. The three sales have registered, Christie’s says, bidders from 57 countries and with 20% of new participants in the auctions. The Magnificent Jewels auction, in particular, saw 16 lots sold over 1 million, with total sales reaching $ 81.6 million.

Anello con diamante da 50,47 carati di Harry Winston
Anello con diamante da 50,47 carati di Harry Winston

The highlight of the day was a 50.47 carat D-Color diamond ring by Harry Winston. This maxi diamond has been sold for 6.5 million. Other pieces that have attracted a lot of interest are a spectacular 20.49 carat vivid fancy yellow ring, with an almost record price per carat for a total of 5.6 million, a ring with an intense pink 8.52 carat pink diamond sold for $ 6.27 million and an important necklace of emeralds and diamonds of the late nineteenth century, by Tiffany & Co., dated around 1880, originally sold at Christie’s New York, more than 20 years ago and which has realized 1 , 57 million. But, even under the symbolic roof of 1 million, the rises were not lacking. As in the case of the Cartier bracelet with figures of birds, which was estimated at 200-300,000 dollars but sold for 800,000. Four times the basic price. It is appropriate to say that the evaluation has taken off.
Here is the official statement of Rahul Kadakia, International Head of Jewelery: “The inaugural GemGenève jewellery fair attracted a 140 exhibitors and many new faces to Geneva, adding to the spirited activity at the sales all week long. White diamonds, in particular showed great demand, alongside blue and pink stones and top vintage jewels.”
And here is that of François Curiel, Christie’s president of Europe and Asia: “The Spring 2018 auctions marked another successful sale season in Christie’s 50 year long history selling in Geneva. For the last half a century Christie’s Switzerland has connected collectors across the world to experience owning beautiful objects from art to jewellery and watches to wine. 50 years of knowledge and passion has elevated Christie’s into a leading position of the Swiss Art market.” Federico Graglia

The ice age of Stenzhorn

The Ice Age (Ice Zeit) seen from Stennzhorn and presented at Baselworld, among baguette diamonds, carré and brilliant cut ♦ ︎
In a rather cold Basel, Stenzhorn presented a new jewelery line, Ice Zeit. The ice age to which it refers is defined by diamonds, one of the classics of the German Maison. The entire collection, which has its most important piece in Storm necklace, made with the three lines discontinuous, is based on the play of brilliant cut diamonds, baguette and carré. The stones are also emphasized thanks to the invisible frame with a technique developed by Stenzhorn. According to the German company, with this type of setting the necklace becomes like a second skin: the technique was developed by Stenzhorn and is called, in fact, 2nd Skin. The new collection consists of necklaces, rings and bracelets, which are reminiscent of ice crystals. The Stenzhorn brothers founded Stenzhorn House of Jewelery in 1979 in Boppard, an ancient German city between the Rhine and Moselle rivers. And now the company is getting ready to celebrate its first 40 years.
The new jewelry collection is, however, in the style of the Maison, which today counts on three different production sites. For example, Muse, a collection launched last fall, which always sees diamonds at the center. Giulia Netrese

The first ten years of Sutra were celebrated with a series of high-end jewelery pieces ♦ ︎
Sutra in 2018 is ten years old. The Indian Maison, in fact, was founded by designer Arpita and her husband Divyanshu Navlakha in 2008. In ten years many achievements have been achieved by the brand, which has chosen the path of great jewelry, also appreciated by celebrities such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Catharine-Zeta Jones, Michelle Obama, Priyanka Chopra, Oprah and Mila Kunis. Salvini rekindles Luminosa collection

New jewels from the Luminosa collection by Salvini: a necklace and bracelet Seventies style. Images and prices ♦ ︎
The light comes on every dawn and so is Salvini’s Luminosa collection. One of the classics of the Maison is proposed with a new type of setting and the illusion setting, that is a set of small stones that give the impression of a single point of light. The advantage? Many small diamonds mounted around one in the center cost less than a single stone with equivalent carats. And let’s face it, the effect of the worn jewel is almost identical. A bright idea, it is appropriate to say it. As well as the philosophy of the collection of the brand that is part of the Damiani group is precisely that of offering brilliance, thanks to white or pink gold and diamonds.
In addition to the collection of solitaires, necklaces and lobe earrings in 2018 were added a collier and a Seventies style bracelet. Always with diamonds as protagonists. Prices: they vary according to the number of carats of the diamonds mounted on the jewel. Some examples: gold and diamonds ring from 2395 to 3495 euros, earrings from 2795 to 3965 euros. Giovanni Ferraris, nature is Bella

The Bella collection by Giovanni Ferraris, beautiful like the colors of nature and the dew drops ♦ ︎
What is beauty? The question, at first glance, seems silly. But it is not. First of all beauty is the result of a set of aspects, quality, parameters. Furthermore, it can vary over time from one culture to another. There are, however, some canons of beauty that seem immutable or, at least, are recurring over the centuries and common to different cultures. One of these beauty models is linked to nature and colors. Difficult to find cultures or people who do not find the nuances of a landscape fascinating. Or, as far as jewelery is concerned, the colors of precious stones.
Combine the two concepts: jewelery and aesthetic sense, and here is the Bella collection by Giovanni Ferraris, seen at Baselworld 2018. The Bella collection is, in fact, beautiful. Play on what are the basic colors of jewelry, namely those of sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Blue, red, green. To which are added the white of the diamonds and the shades of gold, white or pink. Even the shape of the jewels recalls that of nature, with drops that form long spikes or small ovals scattered like wildflowers. Note the detail of the drop-shaped setting in burnished gold. Sotheby’s sells the noble Blue Farnese

Blue Farnese is the most anticipated diamond at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction in Geneva ♦ ︎
Roses bloom in May. But diamonds also flourish. Those super, with dizzying prices and that become front-page titles. Like those Sotheby’s prepares to present at his Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels auction in Geneva. In the catalog, which resembles an irresistible menu for the sweet tooth, there are also three diamonds cut at a distance of 300 years. All three diamonds are extremely rare and of extraordinary beauty. The first is called Blu Farnese. It is an important 6.16-carat blue diamond that was donated to Elisabetta Farnese, Queen of Spain, in 1715, before being handed down through four of Europe’s most important royal families. The estimate for this diamond is 3.6-5.2 million dollars.
The history of the Blue Farnese. The diamond comes from the Indian mines of Golconda, sold out for decades. Elisabetta, a descendant of Pope Paolo Terzo Farnese, received it in Parma in 1714 for her marriage to Philip V of Spain, nephew of the Sun King. Elisabetta then gave the blue diamond to her favorite son Filippo, duke of Parma and founder of the dynasty Bourbon-Parma. The duke, in turn, gave it to his son Ferdinando. From one duchy to another, it ended up in the hands of Carlo, Duke of Lucca, who wore it mounted on a brooch. Later, it was worn by Roberto, the last duke of Parma, exiled in Austria after the unification of Italy. The last owners were Elia, son of Roberto, who died in 1959, and his wife, Maria Anna of Austria.
Not just diamonds. Together with the Blue Farnese in Geneva, two majestic white diamonds will be offered at auction, each weighing over 50 carats and with a total estimate of over 15 million dollars. The white diamonds are both perfect according to all the criteria with which the diamonds are measured and each is the second largest for its form ever had at auction. But the May 15th auction at the Mandarin Oriental in Geneva includes other diamonds, colored whites, even precious stones and emblematic pieces signed by the most famous jewelry houses in the world (on this page you can see some of the most interesting pieces).
«After 10 very successful years of Noble Jewels sales in Geneva, we are delighted to offer such an important historical diamond, The Farnese Blue, this spring. In the Magnificent Jewels section of the sale, two exceptional perfect white diamonds, each weighing over 50 carats, take their places alongside an impressive selection of coloured diamonds. With superb Kashmir sapphires leading the way for coloured gemstones, and a wonderful array of signed pieces led by Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, this will be a fitting celebration of the season!», is the comment of David Bennett, Worldwide Chairman of the department of Sotheby’s Jewelery. Federico Graglia

Jewels at auction with Faraone

Faraone Casa d’Aste returns with a sale of 300 pieces: here are the most precious jewels ♦ ︎
In Milan the jewels of Faraone Casa d’Aste are back. The sale scheduled for May 14 includes over 300 lots of jewelry and watches of the twentieth century. The one scheduled at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan is the first of two annual auction events (now a classic), while the second one precedes the Christmas period. The May auction catalog, among other things, marks a growth compared to the previous appointments of Faraone Casa d’Aste: in fact, it exceeds the 240 lots in November and 160 in May 2017.
The most precious pieces
The company, which is the arm specialized in the sales of the historic Faraone jewelry, signals in particular two rings. The first is made of platinum with Kashmir sapphire, one of the rarest gems in the world, with a cushion cut of about 9 carats, surrounded by diamonds. The second ring, on the other hand, has a 13-carat Colombian emerald wrapped in baguette-cut diamonds. Other pieces that may be among the most requested: a platinum pin, punched Monture Cartier, with a 3.10 carat Colombian emerald placed in the middle of a game of platinum bands covered with 8.20 carats of old cut diamonds and baguettes. On sale also a set of Van Cleef & Arpels, consisting of ring and earrings in platinum with 14 carats of brilliant cut diamonds and 15 carats of round rubies, plus a bracelet, also in platinum, with five sapphires for a total of 22 carats surrounded by as many carats of baguette and brilliant diamonds. As for the jewels, there is also a Bulgari punched platinum ring with a central cut diamond of about 3 carats, surrounded by brilliant cut diamonds and baguette with a total weight of about 3 carats, and a Cartier ring with an octagonal fancy yellow diamond weighing 3.09 carats with two lateral triangular diamonds weighing about 1 carat, accompanied by its original case.
Collectible watches
The auction, in addition to jewelry, also offers over 50 watches, including a Rolex Daytona Patrizzi ref 16520 caliber 4030, with steel case and bracelet oyster, desired by collectors for the unique color variation of the three counters placed on the dial, due to the natural oxidation of silver, which make it particularly sought after. In addition to a series of sought-after Rolexes, for sale an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph ref. 25770ST steel and a rare Santos Dumont Louis Cartier Ultra-Thin. Finally, Faraone Casa d’Aste offers a collection of 22 pairs of twins and five diamonds on a map weighing approximately 1.40 carats of type HVVS1. Federico Graglia
