White, blue, red and green: these are the colors of a hypothetical jewelery flag. They are the shades, that is, of the main stones: sapphires, emeralds, rubies and diamonds. This new palette is based on the new Forever Unique Sinuo Color collection, the result of the work of the jewelry designer Paola Casorati. Made in Italy, the jewels of this line are multiplied in 11 sets, four with sapphires, three with emeralds and four with rubies, all on white gold. On the other hand, the common, pure, natural and ethical diamonds are certified by IIDGR, the International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (a company of the Beers group). The warranty on the stones used is then engraved on the diamond belt with a special laser writing.
In addition to the usual 4 C, Carat (caratura), Color (color), Clarity (purity) and Cut (cut), IIDGR is added the certification of a fifth feature: the Confidence C (trust), guarantee of ethics and transparency ‘use of stones that meet the requirements of the Kimberley Process of the World Diamond Council approved by the United Nations, ie the so-called ethical diamonds. Xpandable is one of Picchiotti’s most popular collections. The high-end jewelry Maison in Valenza has in fact thought of combining the concept of luxury with that of comfort: the rings or bracelets of this collection boast not only a great wealth of raw material, that is, the precious stones used, but also the pleasantness of a flexible system that adapts to the finger or the wrist thanks to an invisible elastic system (thanks to a patent). Picchiotti at Baselworld 2018 presented a series of new pieces of great appeal of the series. But now he anticipates another, destined to shine at the next Couture in Las Vegas. It is a ring with seven extraordinary octagonal emeralds in a three-dimensional setting of baguettes and round diamonds. Certainly one of the leading pieces of the Piedmontese company. Among all, to report a ring with a rare oval sapphire of purple color, not heated, which is also the Pantone Color for 2018. It is said that the fish is mute. Error. A fish can also compose stories thanks to a pendant necklace, word from Stephen Webster. It is the idea of the London rock-chic jeweler for his younger customers: a collection, Fish Tales. But, more than stories of fish, they are letters of the alphabet linked to a different kind of aquatic animal. The lettere O, for example, stands for octopussy. And so on.
The collection is curiously inspired by the memories of the designer’s childhood holidays spent in Blackheath (south of London) or on the Thames to catch mussels and clams. And to accompany the collection, Webster wrote a short book inspired by his passion for marine life. In short, from the shells to the rest of the fauna that lives under the waves: the 26 pendants are composed of a letter of the alphabet intertwined with the silhouette of a fish in 18 carat yellow gold and diamonds. A woman is free as a butterfly. And the Light Wings collection by Leo Pizzo is inspired by the large light wings of the butterflies. Who does not know Alessio Boschi does not know the jewelry. Or, better, he has never seen what kind of jewelry can turn into the hands of a sculptor lent to the art of composing with gold, precious stones. And pearls. But not the round ones, too perfect pearls, to put on a necklace. The pearls that Alessio Boschi chooses are extravagant, inharmonious, asymmetrical keshi pearls. Which, precisely, for this, are transformed into volumes around which to compose. For example, Alessio Boschi has chosen a series of lumpy pearls that, like a spell, come to life in the body of animals, like fish or birds.
But, be careful, those who do not know Alessio Boschi do not even know the magic. Because the Italian designer is able to create jewels that surprise at first sight, and continue to surprise once you realize that the jewel hides another jewel in turn. Like for the White Shark brooch presented in 2017: a shark with embedded stones that hides, behind a small door on the lower side, a pair of dangling earrings. There are several news presented by Fope for the new season. But, in reality, the jewels of the Maison of Vicenza do not live for short periods, like summer moths. On the contrary, Fope’s collections are among those destined to become classics to be handed down from mother to daughter. Yet they are not even simple rings or necklaces of traditional shape. Not only because they have a well-defined style, but also because they have a hidden and patented technology. Those who buy a jewel of Fope know that they can wear it even if it increases (or loses) a few kilos, thanks to the Flex’it gold mesh: a system that hides dozens of micro springs inside the jewel and manages to make a ring or a bracelet not only flexible, but also soft. Morphée Joaillerie, Maison founded by the Belgian designer Pamela Hastry, presents her first set that combines engagement ring and marriage, since it doubles and can be worn by both. The line of rings “two in one”, is called Tu Me Complètes, that is you complete me, and it’s make with platinum and diamonds in a special piece. The philosophy behind this collection is that which revolves around the concept of complementarity. From a goldsmith point of view, without the platinum the diamond part can not be close. And from a metaphysical point of view, personalities may seem in conflict, but they can also create a strong link and a form of completeness.
In short, almost an Oriental reverberation of the concepts of yin and yang, opposites that form a unity, like darkness and light, night and day, fullness and emptiness. But perhaps the most surprising result is the jewels or, better, the octagonal shaped rings, like an emerald cut: modular, half in platinum and half with a part made up of four diamonds with a special baguette cut. Messika is synonymous with diamonds. More: it is perhaps the Maison that most interprets the diamonds used in high, very fine jewelry, but with a modern vision, new, able to amaze. So Valérie Messika brought to Baselworld a series of extraordinary pieces, all composed of the hot glacial stone loved by women (and by diamond collectors). We’ll talk about it in the next days. But among all the pieces stood the necklace inspired by haute couture. And a collection dedicated to the Little Mermaid (a dream when the designer was a child), but the necklace is rightly defined by Messika as majestic.
Messika has aligned 722 diamonds with emerald cut in a composition that leaves electrocuted. At the top, in the middle, there is an emerald-cut diamond of 5.01 carats, while in total the carats of the necklace are 219.2, obviously all of the best quality. To give an idea, the realization of the necklace required almost 2000 hours of work, and of course it is made entirely by hand. In addition to this necklace, there are also a bracelet, a ring and a pair of earrings.
The necklace was then worn by model Sasha Pivovarova and portrayed by Katja Rawles’s lens. Result: a breath of fresh air for high jewelry. Giulia Netrese
