You do not need to climb the peaks of Tibet to find contact with the ancient culture of the region clinging to the Himalayas. Presented at VicenzaOro 2018, the Tibet collection signed by Mattioli is linked to the tradition of Tibetan women to tie an ever-longer thread to the finger: each lap symbolizes a year of happiness with one’s husband. But it is a thread that rotates without beginning or end, a symbol of the circularity of life. This ring is then transmitted from mother to daughter before the wedding. It can be made with different materials, but Licia Mattioli has opted for rose, white or yellow gold.

A cascade of diamonds by Christie’s private sale with Brioni and James Bond ♦ ︎

“A diamond is forever”, said James Bond, repeating the famous claim by De Beers. A diamond is forever and if James Bond recommends it, it’s even better, adds today Christie’s auction house together with Brioni, the tailoring Maison that for many years has dressed the 007 in their movies.

This curious marriage between the king of spies, the oldest auction house and a well-established Roman tailoring is synthesized in the private sale of exceptional diamonds and jewels together with the original plates designed by John McLusky for Ian Fleming Books, which obviously depict James Bond.

The auction house organized the private sale (ie it is not an auction) from 29 to 31 October. The sell has a title: A Diamond Affair and includes a magnificent 100-carat diamond tiara to a rare heart-shaped blue diamond. Besides, in fact, the original works of John McLusky, one of the leading graphic artists who serialized the novels of Fleming’s Bond in the fifties and sixties. Among the adventures published there was, precisely, Diamonds Are Forever.
The series of diamonds of color DH, IF-SI purity, total of 195.40 carats could very well have been part of one of Fleming’s novels, as well as the cut diamond VS2 Fancy Vivid blue of 3.44 carats, or the pair of earrings with two Fancy Intense Yellow VVS2 diamonds of 13.35 and 12.03 carats. Opposites attract, according to an old proverb. It is not always true, at least as regards the relationship of the couple. It is true, however, according to Mattioli, the Turin-based Maison who presented the Yin Yang collection. This is the concept that originated in ancient Chinese philosophy. Yin is black, yang is white: the idea of two opposites that are complementary most likely comes from the observation of the day that turns into night and night that turns into day. But also from opposites like man and woman, cold and warm, negative and positive.

And so this the Yin Yang collection presents rings that intertwine different shapes and surfaces, but united.

She is one of the most interesting emerging designers. And she was also one of the eight creators of the Design Room at VicenzaOro September: Bia Tambelli, Brazilian of Italian descent, on that occasion presented her third collection, after Arpia and Portal. The third collection also takes the forms of the number three. It is called, in fact, Trinity and, as the name suggests, plays around the shape of the triangle. If the three is a perfect number, the Trinity collection makes it an apologia.

The triangular surfaces multiply as in a game of mirrors and build volumes, edges, reflections.

It is not, however, a simple exercise of geometry: the volumes, in fact, serve to amaze, but also to add consistency to the jewels. Light, in short, but not inconsistent. The Trinity collection consists of eight jewels, including a bracelet. The pieces are made with an elaborate combination of gold, white and brown diamonds, rock crystals, citrine quartzes and imperial topazes. The stones have, of course, the trillion cut, that is triangular. Around the meaning of the choice, that of surfaces with three sides, you can let the imagination fly by combining mystical or esoteric symbology. But the designer’s aesthetic research is probably more interesting. Creating something new is not easy and Bia Tambelli has succeeded.

Red and black is the title of a novel that the French writer Stendhal wrote in the first half of the nineteenth century. But it is also the new contrast that is added to the Dancing in the Rain Reverse collection by Nanis. The peculiarity of the collection and of the new pieces, presented at VicenzaOro September, as the name suggests, is the possibility of using jewels, pendant for necklace, earrings or ring in two different ways.

The rotation of the surface shows the hidden back face, which takes the place of the first one.

Obviously the two surfaces of the jewel are different: the pieces that are added now show, for example, on one side a ruby surrounded by small brilliant cut diamonds. Turning the jewel on the two pins that fix it, for example to the band of the ring, one discovers the other face, made with a pavé of diamonds that fade from white to black. The combination is also used for the conclusion of the bracelets, but in this case red and black face each other.
At VicenzaOro Nanis also showed the new exhibition concept. The corners will be characterized by the extreme elasticity of the system and the immediate recognition of the brand. The basic display elements will be of two types: vertically developing display cabinets and lower counters, both with removable, transparent drawers surmounted by an important glass case with independent LED lighting. A large texture composed of quadrangular elements takes up the design of the exhibition floors, flips it over the walls and acts as a backdrop to the exhibition. The central element that draws the background wall bears the Nanis logo – Italian Contemporary Luxury Factory.
