That’s why the collection has this name: Cascata. Small jewels studded with 126 brilliant cut diamonds support the 72 oval cut gemstones of a bezel. The claws dominate and punctuate a cascade of stones for a total of over 30 carats, creating a continuum in scale that defines the contours of the oval shape of the watch and reveals the dial encrusted with 148 gems set in snow. In short, high jewelry or high watchmaking? To guarantee the most dense setting and to make the gems appear in an inseparable succession, the Maison de Grisogono explains the goldsmiths craftsmen took almost a hundred hours to cut the stones in an oval shape.

The precious metal is, in fact, worked in alloy with other components up to take on new nuances: from white with a touch of gray to brown, to iron. It is designed by the designer father of iPhone, iMac, iPad … This exceptional creation will be on sale on December 5 in Miami, in an auction organized by Sotheby’s. The proceeds will go to charity, for an organization, Red, which deals with AIDS patients.

The ring was designed by Apple’s chief design officer, Sir Jony Ive, in collaboration with industrial designer Marc Newsom.

The artificial diamond, on the other hand, was produced by Diamond Foundry. The ring has no metallic part. Diamond Foundry is the leading American producer of stone produced in the laboratory and aims to present itself as a sustainable company. It boasts the star of Blood Diamond and among the shareholders there is Leonardo DiCaprio, who was the protagonist of a film about the extraction of illegal diamonds.

The diamond used for the ring is about 45 carats, one of the largest laboratory stones in the world.

The ring, however, does not yet exist: if a buyer is found, the rough diamond created in the laboratories of the Bay Area of Diamond Foundry will be sent to master cutters in Antwerp to be customized to the extent of the finger of the new owner.
To realize the ring’s design, which has 2-3,000 almost microscopic facets, Ive and Newsom have also designed special tools, including a device that will project a laser beam through a micrometric water jet to create the cylindrical cut of the interior ring. The 1922 collection by Alfieri & St. John is dedicated to Gaudì.

As we have written several times, among buyers, but also among jewelers, uncertainty increases. The doubt concerns the certification of diamonds, since more and more often artificial stones are so similar to natural ones that the distinction has become increasingly difficult, even for experts. For this reason the game that is played between those who sell jewelry with authentic diamonds and who, instead, uses those created in the laboratory, becomes more tight. Obviously the game is not played when diamonds are declared as artificials from the beginning.

The problem, instead, is to get the guarantee that the ring with solitaire purchased is really, 100%, made with a stone “daughter of nature”.

It is not only an economic issue, since the value of a natural diamond is greater, but also one aspect sentimental: the idea that a stone was created by the compression of continents moving millions of years ago remains attractive to many people.

Now Hrd Antwerp, one of the most reliable gemological certification companies, has developed and commercialized two new diamond analysis tools.

Objective: to offer consumers a guarantee of quality. Two devices that are a sort of Sherlock Holmes of gemologist, M-Screen + and D-Tect, therefore allow the detection of synthetic diamonds and offer, explains the company, a solution to the most important challenge for the diamond industry. Now Salvini proposes the Signs again with the addition of new pieces from the collection.

Rings, earrings and long sautoir reproduce elements such as cross, heart, butterfly and four-leaf clover, common symbols, to which also attribute personal meanings.
