The beautiful but strange jewels

The most surprising jewels: from the diamond glove to the pavé handcuffs ♦

Strange jewels. There are not only the classic pearl necklaces, or the solitaire ring: designers and jewelers occasionally indulge in incredible fantasies. For example, what would you say about a diamond-encrusted glove? There is, and it was designed by Jacob & co. Or you might like some pink earphones with Swarovski crystals. In this case, an Indian brand called iWave took care of it. Or, again, the thong sandals with crystal gem proposed a few years ago by Tamara Comolli.

Then there is the shoe chapter: stylists have indulged in creating shoes that look like jewels or jewels that look like shoes, you name it. An example: Casadei designer shoes, with Swarovski crystals. Or those by Ruthie Davis that were liked, they say, by Beyoncé, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, and Lady Gaga. Perhaps the most surprising jewel, however, is represented by the pair of diamond-studded handcuffs signed a few years ago by the Swiss jeweler de Grisogono, which however no longer exists.

If we exclude that they are used by policemen with a mania for luxury, the suspicion arises that they are intended for fans of 50 Shades of Grey. Less unusual as an object, but equally precious is the perfume spray adorned with a gecko composed of small Colombian emeralds, which climbs on branches designed with diamonds. Some, however, will raise an eyebrow at the choker, a leather and gold dog collar style, with a bone-shaped pendant: it is designed by Chopard and is intended for high-class pets.

A little out of the ordinary, it must be admitted, was also the Grace Kelly pen by Montblanc, studded with diamonds and pink sapphires: who knows what you can write with such an object. The skirt by Titan Industries seems more traditional, but it isn’t, with designs made of cubic zirconia and Swarovski crystals: be careful when sitting down, though. Technology couldn’t be missing: an iPad cover colored with crystals to feel in step with technology.

Titanium jewelry: should you buy them?

Titanium jewelry: they are the last frontier of jewelry. Beautiful, but also difficult to make. Should you buy them? ♦

Long live titanium, which has become synonymous with creative audacity and high technology in jewelry from a key element in the aerospace industry. To what does it owe its success? To lightness, first of all: with a weight less than a fifth compared to gold, it allows large volumes and the same comfort in wearing, especially for earrings and bracelets. Not only that: those who associate titanium only with its sad gray color of origin are wrong: this metal can be dyed in bright and full shades, from lawn green to lacquer red, to intense purple, to electric blue. Furthermore, whatever the color obtained through an oxidation process, unlike what is done with the galvanic process on silver or other metals, it is much more resistant: it does not fade with time and does not risk detachment. But this is not the only technical advantage: its extreme resistance allows you to use less metal than gold and platinum for the frames and to create very thick pavé.

Masterpiece 2019: due spille con diamanti e zaffiri blu su titanio
Cindy Chao, Masterpiece 2019: due spille con diamanti e zaffiri blu su titanio

How to use it. Titanium is often used for thin and light metal architectures that serve as gem racks. It is no coincidence that most titanium jewels are literally covered with stones. One of the first to experiment with this material in jewelry was Jar (Joseph Arthur Rosenthal) in the late 1980s, and on the occasion of his retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, he created a collection of titanium and aluminum jewelery for sale inside the museum at affordable prices, from 2 to 5 thousand dollars. The fact that it is less expensive than gold must not be misleading, its processing requires great skill and technical knowledge, so it may happen that some jewels are even more expensive than their cousins made with more noble metals.

The admirers. Titanium jewels, therefore, are usually embellished with super precious stones, such as those of Wallace Chan, the jeweler from Hong Kong, or the Swiss Suzanne Syz, who made titanium his signature. And yet the sinuous tracery of Pomellato, which chose it to renew the Arabesque collection, or the delicate leaves of the Chopard bracelet with blue sapphires, the magnetic colors of the flower-shaped brooch by Giovanni Ferraris or the slight setting of the brooch by Michelle Ong, one of the few people who can boast a friendship with Jar. But there are also those who focus everything on design rather than precious stones, such as the Italian Maison Vhernier.
Orecchini in titanio verde e diamanti di Jacob & Co
Orecchini in titanio verde e diamanti di Jacob & Co

Is it worth buying titanium jewelry? Titanium, like metal, costs less than gold, but is more difficult to use in jewelry. That said, the value of a titanium jewel is not determined by the cost of the raw material. If the gold of a jewel can be melted and resold, the same cannot be proposed for titanium. Therefore, when you buy a titanium jewel, you choose the design, the signature of the Maison, the gems that make up the piece. It is not said that a titanium jewel is more advantageous than a gold or platinum jewel: it depends on the stones that compose it.

How do you clean titanium? In addition to being light, titanium is very resistant: no problem for cleaning that can be performed with the usual mix of warm water, two drops of liquid soap and a toothbrush with soft bristles. If anything, the problem may be the structure of the jewel. Titanium, as we have explained, is often used to make jewels with a particularly imaginative shape, often together with many precious stones. You must be very careful, therefore, not to ruin the structure of the jewel with an excessively energetic cleaning. Monica Battistoni

How to evaluate the pavé of your jewels

Can you realy judge the pavé of your jewel? Pavé is the most used technique in jewelry, but few really know how it is made. Read how to evaluate the pavé stones on your jewels ♦

There are jewellery composed of gems so close to each other that it seems a continuous surface: is the effect of a pavé done perfectly, which transforms a flower, an insect or any shape in an object of unique harmony. The outcome is the result of many hours of work and great skills. Of course, recognize the best one is not difficult, just a certain sensitivity, but understand why it is so special makes the experience even more satisfying. Here a few examples of fine jewelry to get to know this technique: basically learn a bit more also helps to make better choices and make an informed purchase.

The technique

Conical holes are dug in the metal where insert the stones, that are subsequently blocked (set) with tiny balls obtained engraving with a chisel (scorper) the excavated material on the sides of the stone. It is clear that it is a job, the one done handmade by the jewel setter, very neatly. The shortest distance between stones requires greater skill and care, which increase the cost of production. Vice versa wider spaces filled with these tiny balls indicate the opposite. But not only: the throng around the stone often provides an effect of overall confusion that the experts define by the word dirty.

Michele della Valle, spilla con pavé di zaffiri La Rose de Bourbon
Michele della Valle, spilla con pavé di zaffiri La Rose de Bourbon

The Tubetto collection by De Grisogono is a textbook example: the blacks diamond of the ring below, although of different dimension, are all on the same level. It is the ability of the stone setter to ensure that larger gems not protrude too much and small ones remain in evidence, and that requires the groove depth must be calculated to the nearest millimeter, operation even more difficult when they are of different sizes. Moreover, the tiny balls that hold the stones are nearly invisible in pictures like this where the object is much zoomed.

De Grisogono, anello collezione Tubetto con diamanti neri
De Grisogono, anello collezione Tubetto con diamanti neri

Here two more examples of admirable invisible setting, the Camaleonte by Vhernier and the American flag earrings by Michele della Valle. Getting this kind of quality is much more difficult with colorless diamonds on white gold, because with colored stones, if the base is good, you can improve the pavé by coloring the metal. Furthermore, in these two cases the pavé is continuous, does not have metal slabs that circumscribe it, but wraps the setting. Detail which increases the difficulty and the execution time.

Below is interesting to note the elegance of details: the tiny balls are in yellow or black gold depending on the color of the stones; in the second image instead, a mixed technique: the points on plate (cylinders applied on the metal instead of balls engraved with chisel) in the center and pavé on the sides.

The return of Fawaz Gruosi

/

He was the creative director, and above all the founder, of one of the most dazzling Maison of high jewelery: de Grisogono. But at the end of 2018, somewhat surprising all, Fawaz Gruosi had left the ginervrina company. It was then understood why: the owners, the Angolese citizens Sindika Dokolo and Isabel dos Santos, daughter of the former Angolan president, had messed with the accounts. To put it mildly. After that chapter, Fawaz Gruosi is back on track with a Maison that has his name, this time in London, in Berkeley Square. The years have passed, but not the creative flair of the jeweler. The pieces of high jewelery proposed are of an exceptional fantasy and quality. Impossible not to notice the unmistakable style of Fawaz Gruosi, who in her previous professional life was able to combine super luxury with a spectacular use of materials. Starting with black diamonds, which Fawaz Gruosi was the first to use in high jewelery.

Fawaz Gruosi

The fame of the jeweler, however, is also linked to his sociability, to his famous parties among models, actresses and showgirls, to the collections presented during the Cannes Film Festival. Will he now replicate the rise to success with the new brand? It is too early to tell. In any case, the jeweler is used to being reborn. He was born in Florence to an Italian mother and for this reason he also knows the Italian language. He started working early: at 16 he was in the Florentine Torrini jewelry, more to help his family after the premature death of his Lebanese father than out of passion. But that experience taught him the secrets of the trade. He began his rise in Saudi Arabia with Harry Winston, then worked for Gianni Bulgari before founding de Grisogono in 1993. Now he starts (almost) from scratch.

The new past of Francesca Villa

The objects found and the new jewels by Francesca Villa, a designer who brings the past back to life ♦ ︎
For years, in Valenza, she has developed collections of jewelry for brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Asprey, De Grisogono, De Beers, Tiffany, Bulgari and American companies such as Bailey, Banks and Biddle, Mayors and Jlg. Then, Francesca Villa said stop. But not to jewelry: she decided to create jewelry for herself, with her own brand. After travel and travel, she returned near Valenza, in the small town of Solonghello. Far from the noise of the big cities, yet very close to the world.

The specialty of Francesca Villa, in fact, is traveling over time. Through the jewels, of course. In her travels he buys objects and figures from other eras and uses them for her collections, which are flanked by more traditional jewels, with gold and precious gems. One could say that the designer lives in the present with jewels like her jewels like spheres and triangles, and in the past with the Object Trouvé, unique pieces that become precious for the story they bring inside. “I recognize these fragments of their evocative power, because an object always refers to a subject, to us, to our lost and rediscovered time”, is his philosophy. ” It is therefore from the union between objéts trouvés and precious materials, through the skilful work of Italian master goldsmiths, that the jewel that I conceived is born and develops, an unexpected union between worlds far away but from whose union blossoms an unrepeatable object, that of its uniqueness makes an absolute value”. Goodbye de Grisogono, bankruptcy in court

Bad news for those who love high jewelry: de Grisogono, a Geneva-based company that has left its mark on the world of luxury, has filed for bankruptcy. The decision comes after a thorny financial scandal involving the ownership of the jewelry brand, Sodiam, Angola’s state-owned mining company, came to light. According to documents released recently, the company specialized in the extraction of diamonds was used by Sindika Dokolo, husband of Isabel Dos Santos, the richest woman in Africa and daughter of the former premier, to control de Grisogono thanks to black funds (about $ 1 billion), thus obtained illegally.

Gioielli de Grisogono

Isabel Dos Santos, who lives in London, is under investigation on charges of enriching herself through corruption when her father was president of the African country. The purchase of the de Grisogono brand, founded by Fawaz Gruosi, ousted about a year ago, dates back to 2012. The pot was uncovered thanks to a (highly documented) journalistic investigation by the Panorama team. According to documents discovered by journalists, 18 months after the agreement Sodiam had invested $ 79 million in the partnership, while Dokolo had invested only $ 4 million. Dokolo’s lawyers argue that the couple then invested $ 115 million in de Grisogono, but was unable to find a buyer. The jewelry company records sales of around $ 100 million and employs 65 people. And most importantly, it was one of the most innovative jewelry companies.

Goodbye Baselworld, Gucci throws in the towel

Another bad blow for Baselworld: Gucci also leaves. At the Basel fair, scheduled this year from April 30 to May 5, the brand of the Kering group will not be there. And it will leave two empty spaces, given that last year the brand occupied separate exhibition spaces in Hall 1.0, one for jewelry and the other for watches.

Gucci therefore extends the list of discontented brands, in particular about the choice to postpone the date of the fair, as well as the costs associated with the exhibition set-up: restaurants and hotels in Basel have the reputation of having prohibitive prices. And, while the presence of Rolex and the brands of the LVMH group is confirmed, companies such as Breitling, Swatch, de Grisogono, Pasquale Bruni, Jacobs & Co, as well as many smaller brands, have given up.

Gucci refused to explains the reason for the decision. Baselworld, in any case, has admitted that the idea of postponing the fair to may to link it to Sihh, which in the meantime has changed its name to Watches & Wonders Geneva, an event dedicated to haute horlogerie, will not be replicated: in 2021 Baselworld it should return in late March or early April. But the verb should be used in the conditional.

Of course, the Basel fair is unlikely to return to the 2,000 exhibitors a decade ago. And it is even more difficult to say whether it will be the world center of watchmaking again: Baselworld, in fact, was primarily a showcase of Swiss watches until British jewelry designer Stephen Webster began exhibiting in 1999. In the following 12 years he was followed by many other brands, before a decline began that, perhaps, is not yet finished.

The design of Emmanuel Tarpin for de Grisogono

///

A collection of fine jewelry made by designer Emmanuel Tarpin for de Grisogono ♦ ︎

Until recently he was considered the golden boy of jewelery, a designer who at the age of 27 had the chance to enter among the big names in the world of gold and diamonds. Now, instead, Emmanuel Tarpin can no longer be referred to as an emerging designer. De Grisogono, the Geneva House that in high jewelery has the reputation of being innovative and, sometimes, even transgressive, has decided to make him emerge definitively.

To Tarpin, de Grisogono commissioned a collection as Artist in Resident: a choice strongly desired by the new CEO, Céline Assimon. The result is called Prologue and is the first of three collections to be signed by Emmanuel Tarpin. The designer used a palette with two colors: black and white. Indeed, black diamonds have been widely used by de Grisogono. The shape of the jewels is sinuous and surprising: the designer does not disappoint the fame he has gained.

The collection includes long asymmetric earrings of white and black diamonds in the form of a twisted ribbon, with a spiral that gives the illusion of crossing the lobe. And even the bracelet and necklace have the soft appearance of a fabric that bends with soft curves. They are pieces of bold design, but at the same time reassuring. And that, for sure, are unmistakable. Innovative jewels, yet in harmony with the de Grisogono style.

Emmanuel Tarpin, who debuted on the international scene at GemGèneve, launched his first capsule collection two years ago and, in December 2017, his realistic Geranium Leaf aluminum earrings were sold by Christie’s. He then received the Rising Star award from the Fashion Group International and was named Designer of the Year at the Town and Country Jewelry Awards. And he’s only at the beginning.

The Extravaganza by de Grisogono

/

The new jewels from de Grisogono’s Extravaganza collection: gold and diamonds for an atmosphere of inexhaustible party ♦ ︎

In 2019 the Maison de Ginevra de Grisogono renewed one of its most successful jewelery lines: Extravaganza. While the word extravagant is synonymous with singular, bizarre, sophisticated eccentricity, odd, original, weird, strange, the Extravaganza collection limits itself to accentuating its uniqueness. More than extravagant, in short, it is different from the others, in a positive sense.

Anello in oro rosa e diamanti della linea Raggiante

Extravaganza is not only not extravagant, but it is also a faithful guardian of memories and traditions: a journey through time that begins with the art déco, the twenties, swing, and charleston. This moveable feast is symbolized by the Radiant line, which is part of Extravaganza. With a leap forward of thirty years, Extravaganza evolves into the Divine line, inspired by the Fifties: ideally you are on board of the Christina O, yacht, mega-yacht in the world belonged to Aristotle Onassis, according to the Maison quotation . In this imaginary party are placed pink or white gold and diamond jewels, or black radiated white gold with emeralds.

Finally, with a new leap in time of 20 years, here is the Tentazione line, inspired by the Seventies. Between the dance at the Studio 54 in New York and the glam rock: even in this case the enveloping forms of the jewels wink at an atmosphere of sparkling fun. But these jewels can go very well even for a quiet evening.

The new hi-tech jewels

Not only gold and silver: this is why super-technological materials are increasingly used in jewelery ♦

Carbon fiber, titanium, nanoceramics, volcanic lava and even the rediscovery of aluminum: the use of new generation technology and materials in the world of jewelry is increasingly common. The reasons are different. A metal like titanium, for example, is durable and very light. Not only: the titanium can also take on different colors without having to glaze or plate it with some electroplating. On the other hand, it is very difficult to work: that’s why it is not easy to find a titanium jewel.

Suzanne Syz, bracciale Asparagus in titanio, oro, diamanti, ametiste

Titanium, in any case, is one of the materials that in recent years has become a symbol of research and innovation in jewelry. Masters like Wallace Chan, Suzanne Syz, or Maison like Giovanni Ferraris, or jewelery companies like Mattia Cielo from Vicenza, who after experimenting with titanium wires to enhance the flexibility of its products, have also focused on carbon. As well as another avant-garde designer, Fabio Salini: he also uses carbon fiber next to titanium.

Anello titanio, diamanti, zaffiri blu
Giovanni Ferraris, anello titanio, diamanti, zaffiri blu

Carbon also is used by the Austrian Maison Adler, which strongly believes in this ash gray material and has created an entire collection, called Eclipse, made up of microscopic woven carbon fibers, with a silky and slightly silver patina. The contrast of the dark background with colorless diamonds and white and pink gold give the jewelry an almost lunar appearance. The Swiss of Bogh-Art, on the other hand, use ultra-thin “sewn” titanium wires, that is compacted, with fiber optic beams at a precise temperature and pressure. The obtained layer is then cut to give shape to the wings and the petals of butterflies, dragonflies and flowers that make up rings and earrings. A way to make classic designs and frames more sparkling.

Another frontier of jewelry is the nanoceramic resin, the result of a mixture of water, butyl alcohol and the often methoxypropanol, it covers like a thin film rings, earrings and pendants from the Mistero collection by De Grisogono, with the advantage of making them unteachable. But it is also used by Roberto Demeglio, or by Vhernier, although in a different way. Finally, the technology can be used to work an ancient material like solidified volcanic lava, still not very widespread, but used by David Yurman, who transformed the debris of an eruption into pearls for a necklace with diamonds.

Another ancient material, but rediscovered thanks to the technology that transforms it, is aluminum. Processed and melted with refined methods that allow it to be colored, even aluminum has turned into a precious metal. Light, resistant, very malleable, it was chosen for example by a young avant-garde designer such as Emmanuel Tarpin, but also experimentally by Vhernier for some necklaces from the Calla collection. And also a Maison of high jewelery like the German Hemmerle proposes jewels like the anodized aluminum earrings with cavities in which aquamarines are inserted. Federico Graglia

The Mediterranean by de Grisogono

Three pieces of de Grisogono high jewelery dedicated to the Mediterranean sea ♦

La Maison de Grisogono is based in Geneva, on Lake Geneva, but its founder Fawaz Gruosi (now exited from the company), is an Italian of Lebanese origin. Italy and Lebanon, two countries overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Perhaps as a reflection of these origins, between sea and blue sky, strong colors and primary tastes, de Grisogno offers three high jewelery creations dedicated to the Mediterranean, with turquoise stone in the center. The blue of turquoise is combined with the warmth of amethysts or pink sapphires, it evokes the richness and the Mediterranean flora, or, in a creation, it matches the depth of emeralds and blue sapphires that reflect the magnificence of the sea.

The necklace is composed of 11 cabochon cut turquoises. Each of the natural stones has been selected for its size and for the depth of its colors. Each individual stone is set in a fan of amethysts and pink sapphires as a tribute to the Maison’s famous Ventaglio collection.

Anello in oro bianco 18 carati, 1 turchese cabochon (circa 18,08 carati), 18 diamanti bianchi (circa 2,35 carati), di 49 zaffiri rosa (circa 3.519 carati) e 131 ametiste (circa 8,61 carati)
Anello in oro bianco 18 carati, 1 turchese cabochon (circa 18,08 carati), 18 diamanti bianchi (circa 2,35 carati), di 49 zaffiri rosa (circa 3.519 carati) e 131 ametiste (circa 8,61 carati)

The ring takes up the pattern of the Ventaglio (fan) collection. At the heart of the jewel is an exceptional cabochon cut turquoise. On the two sides of the stone there are the flounces of the fan composed of diamonds, pink sapphires and brilliant-cut amethysts. With an exquisite finish to the touch of the hand, the eye discovers that the wings of the jewel are entirely covered with amethysts also in the lower part.

Orecchini in oro bianco 18 carati e titanio con 2 turchesi taglio goccia (circa 66,84 carati), 418 smeraldi (circa 7,01 carati) e 480 zaffiri blu (circa 11,69 carati)

The earrings evoke the waves of the sea with pendants of turquoise, sapphires and emeralds set with the technique of neige serts, joining like two sensual currents going up towards the ear. The jewel is fluid and light thanks to the titanium structure.

The Modern Beauties by de Grisogono

The high jewelry of Modern Beauties collection by de Grisogono, presented with the Haute Couture in Paris ♦ ︎

The summer Haute Couture week in Paris, from Sunday 30 June to Thursday 4 July 2019, has one more protagonist: de Grisogono. The Maison of Geneva has decided to present at the same time at the fashion shows a collection of fine jewelry symbolically linked to the style of de Grisogono. The collection is called Modern Beauties. That is to say luxury, but with a license to amaze. Unique, strong, unmistakable pieces. In 20 years they will be perhaps jewels that collectors will compete in auctions, assuming that someone wants to sell them.

Chiaroscuro Gold Ribbons.

The collection consists of four pieces, of which two make up a set of earrings and necklace. There are all the styles of de Grisogono: white and black diamonds, enveloped shapes, like the mix of stones with different cuts.

Party Spirit.

Perhaps the definition of rock’n’roll jewelry, proposed by de Grisogono, is too reductive for a style that has found its place on the top floors of luxury. They are not jewels by groupies, but to be worn even if you are not a model who walks on the red carpet. Provided there is someone willing to give such jewels to a young model. Judge for yourself.

Allegra 25, de Grisogono’s earrings

Allegra 25 earrings by de Grisogono: latest arrival of the endless series of long-lived collection ♦

Allegra, and not alone. De Grisogono’s woman is 25 years old (the age of the Maison) and is increasingly Allegra, the name of the collection that multiplies like the editions of Big Brother: the formula is the same, but the protagonists alternate. If, for example, in 2018 de Grisogono had unveiled the Allegra 25 watch, today it adds earrings that reflect the style of that watch-jewel-bracelet.

The appearance of Allegra 25 consists of a braided gold ribbon, an infinite circle that is connected to vertical rings. The earrings are offered in rose or white gold with diamonds or in white gold with the emblematic duo of white and black diamonds.

Allegra 25 coexists with the other versions: the collection was presented in 2003, in the large size, with nine intertwined gold threads. In 2015 Allegra expanded with a medium version, with seven wires. And last year also the small one was added, with five-wire gold. Now it’s time for the Allegra 25 variant.

The best jewels of Cannes

The best jewels seen on the red carpet of the Festival of Cannes 2019: Messika, de Grisogono, Cartier, Bulgari, Chopard and …  ♦︎

Jewels on the red carpet, jewels worn by the stars, jewels that are worth a trip to see them: the Cannes Film Festival has always been this too. The 2019 edition does not differ from this apotheosis of diamonds, colored stones, necklaces and earrings with reflections that can be spotted from miles away. Here, then, are some first-class jewels that have aroused envy, admiration and regret (for those who could not wear them).

One of the most active and brilliant houses in Cannes is undoubtedly the Parisian Messika: at the opening ceremony the Turkish actress Dilan Deniz unveiled the extraordinary North Wind necklace from Once Upon A Time’s High Once collection, the Desert Bloom earrings from the collection Born to be wild jewelry store and Mata Hari bracelet from the Paris est une Fête fine jewelry collection. As if that weren’t enough, he showed off his iconic Roman and Glam’Azone double rings and a My Twin ring.

Also for Messika, the French actress Romane Bohringer sparkled with Kashmir earrings from the Paris est une Fête fine jewelry collection. And Valérie Messika, founder and artistic director of the brand, also appeared with Wild Moon earrings, the Desert Bloom necklace and the bracelet from the Born to be Wild jewelry collection. Valérie Messika has also recommended to Selena Gomez the Snake Dance earrings of the new collection Born to be Wild and the Toi & Moi ring, also of high jewelery. Subsequently, the actress then presented herself with a Bulgari series.

In addition, Tina Kunakey also wore Messika jewels, with Wild Moon earrings, Snake Dance bracelet and the Toi & Moi ring from Private Collection, Brazilian actress Isis Valverde with the eared stuff Beloved Feather from Once Upon a Time collection a Time and the Snake Dance ring.

The American actress Eva Longoria presented herself on the red carpet, instead, wearing de Grisogono jewels. In particular with the Boule earrings in yellow and white gold coated with white diamonds (1.30 ct) and brown (28.50 ct). Always for the Geneva House, the German model and actress Barbara Meier showed a pair of Vortice earrings in rose gold with white diamonds (11.60 carats) and the Chiocciolina ring in pink gold with white diamonds (2.35 carats) .

With showy Chopard earrings, the Maison that is traditionally paired with Cannes, presented Julianne Moore at the screening of the film Les Miserables. He has changed two: first made only in diamonds and then with diamonds and large emeralds. Same choice (Chopard earrings) for Elle Fanning, which is part of the jury. Alessia Ambrosio opted instead for large spiral earrings in white gold and diamonds by Boucheron. Iranian actress and songwriter Golshifteh Farahani instead shined with a diamond necklace and Cartier opals.

High jewelry, champagne and celebrity: the classic event in Cannes by de Grisogono ♦ ︎

Do you like jewels and do you enjoy worldly news, parties and fashion shows on red carpets? Here you are satisfied: for 17 years, de Grisogono has been nominating Cannes for the stage. Not only by giving exceptional jewels to the actresses during screenings, but also with a mythical party. Obviously with the side dish of champagne and high jewelry. And that’s what happened this year at the Hotel Cap-Eden-Roc, the traditional location of the Maison.

Allegra Moi & Toi from de Grisogono

///

The Allegra collection by de Grisogono expands with the addition of Moi & Toi motifs ♦

You are more cheerful when you are with someone. Who knows if it is for this reason that the Allegra collection by de Grisogono, one of the most successful, is now back with a new transformation, which also alludes to the couple’s relationship. The novelty of the Allegra collection is called Moi et Toi, a definition that alludes to jewelry with two poles in which there can be diamonds, stones or simply a symbol. Me and you, exactly. The Moi & Toi style, on the other hand, has already been used by de Grisogono.

Find here the other Moi & Toi collection by de Grisogono.

Now the same principle, and the same style, is applied by de Grisogono for the Allegra collection, where the consolidated way of the white or pink gold jewelry line is reproduced with hard stone cabochons, next to small pavé diamonds. The collection includes hoop earrings that thanks to a gold ring can be hooked to the stud, rigid bracelets that open, a sautoir necklace dotted with stones like carnelian, onyx or turquoise, cacholong, with one of the ends that can be joined to the chain in different combinations: for a scarf, tie or necklace effect.

Phase two for de Grisogono

An external designer, scholarships for young people, an artist-muse: they are the first moves of the new CEO of de Grisogono ♦ ︎

Céline Assimon, the CEO of de Grisogono who replaced founder Fawaz Gruosi in December, took just four months to introduce novelties to the Maison. The first move is to introduce a sort of internship for designers in the Geneva company. The idea was articulated under the name of Creativity in Residence and provides, in fact, a period of collaboration in house, of one-year, for a guest designer, with the intention of injecting new creative lymph. However, the project is more extensive. It includes, for example, the identification of a well-known artist in another discipline, such as figurative art or music, who will be de Grisogono’s inspirational muse. This man or woman has not yet been identified, but it is possible that this is a relationship like that of Lady Gaga for Tiffany or Rihanna for Chopard, representative artists and internationally known.

Today de Grisogono launches a triple platform that will breathe new life into the Maison’s unique creative approach, capable of giving life to notoriously daring jewels. The peculiarity of the Creativity in Residence program is the transformation of the internal Creative Studio into a stimulated hub, nourished and enriched by all three aspects of the program; in turn the Studio will open its heritage and its extraordinary skills to new eyes, external talents and curious young minds.

There is also a third project: a scholarship in collaboration with the Haute École d’art et de design (Head) of Geneva, one of the main European schools of art and design, a concentration of talents in the expressive field and artistic. The initiatives are, in short, a sign of the Maison’s vitality, which just a year ago announced a plan to reduce 41 jobs (31 in Switzerland and 10 worldwide) out of a total of 104 employees. Now it starts again.

The jewels of the Met Gala

//

Tiffany, Harry Winston, Cartier, de Grisogono: here are the jewels worn by celebrities at the Met Gala held in New York ♦ ︎

It always happens on the first Monday in May. And it has become one of the most popular social events: the Met Gala is the equivalent of the Los Angeles Oscars, only held in New York and focused on fashion. In any case, the Met Gala is the occasion to show off the most extraordinary clothes and jewels, capable of attracting the attention of photographers and, obviously, of the public. This is what happened punctually even in 2019. Here, then, are some of the most interesting appearances, from Lady Gaga to Katy Perry.

But, of course, the Met Gala is above all a fundraiser for charity. It is organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the money collected is used to support its activities dedicated to fashion and costume. The event is organized by the director of Vogeu Usa, Anna Wintour, by a special committee. Participating in the dinner is expensive: tickets can cost up to $ 30,000, which goes up to 300,000 for companies (for a table), but even this is not enough: the guests are personally selected by Anna Wintour.

This year’s guest list included celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Harry Styles, Lupita Nyong’o, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry. If you are amazed by the clothes chosen, know that every year a theme is chosen for the show at the Met that follows the dinner, and that it is also the code for the party. This year the theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion: difficult to interpret.

And the jewels? Many, gorgeous, surprising. In particular those of Harry Winston, Tiffany and de Grisogono, which you see on this page.

In Paris de Grisogono it changes house

A new Parisian boutique for the Maison de Grisogono ♦ ︎

New space for de Grisogono’s high jewelry in Paris. Closed the boutique at 358 Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré, the Maison opened a new store at 33 Avenue George V in the eighth arrondissement, next to the Prince de Galles Hotel. The 65 square meter boutique reveals a new concept in interior design developed by de Grisogono in collaboration with the architects of the David Collins Studio in London.
The new boutique combines classic elements and contemporary furnishings. The wrought iron decoration that characterizes the façade recalls the Allegra collection and its intertwined profiles. Upon entering, the eye is captured by an imposing screen that presents the latest news from the Maison. Wrapped in natural light, the boutique combines amethyst nuances with iridescent white dotted with galuchat panels, an iconic material for de Grisogono. The beautiful baroque crystal chandeliers add a final touch to the interior.

High jewelry in Technicolor by de Grisogono

//

Five high jewelery rings signed by de Grisogono: they will be presented at the Cannes Film Festival. In fact the collection is called Technicolor ♦ ︎

The Ginevra Maison of high jewelery de Grisogono has two fixed points: participation in the Cannes Film Festival and a good dose of humor. For 2019 he decided to combine both aspects for the 17th appointment in Cannes: de Grisogono chosed to call his creations under the name of Technicolor. A name that has made the history of cinema: Technicolor was the second color cinematography procedure to be used on a large scale and, untill 1952, the most used in the United States. It was a synonym of great quality, of strong visual impact, of great films.

But for de Grisogono the word Technicolor brings together five new high jewelery rings. Obviously with very colored stones.

The five rings have as many central stones: ruby, emerald, sapphire, yellow diamond, white diamond. These stones combine with other stones. Combinations that the Maison sees as allusions to the history of cinema. Like the great masterpieces signed by great directors, also these rings are unique pieces. In short, each of these rings has its own script and a director (de Grisogono) who tells their story and their virtues.

The first ring is in green tone. It is made of 18K white gold, with a coussin-cut Colombian emerald (11.60 carats) and 532 black diamonds (approx. 11.30 carats) in the center. A contrast, between green and black, reinforced by the large lower corolla that rotates around a magnetic beryl that can move.

The second ring is in 18K rose gold, with a brilliant-cut white diamond (7.12 ct), 21 cabochon-cut rubies (15.70 ct), 111 brilliant-cut rubies (approx. 16.50 ct) and 162 white diamonds (about 2.75 carats). The asymmetry between the cuts of the ruby (cabochon and brilliant) goes up to the profile of the ring, covered with over a hundred brilliant cut diamonds. In addition, the ring is dotted with rose gold and black rhodium gold beads. In the center, mounted on a setting of pink gold, there is the white diamond of over 7 carats.

This ring in 18K white gold has a Coussin-cut Burmese ruby (18.13 ct), 46 white cut briolette diamonds (approx. 45.11 ct) and 319 white diamonds (approx. 3.47 ct) in the center. It has a Haute Couture setting technique, which has become the jeweler’s signature, which gives total freedom to the stones, leaving them appear as if they were floating in the air.

Ring in 18K white gold, in the center a blue oval cut sapphire (16.89 carat), 21 marquise cut emeralds (approx. 4.05 carats), 17 marquise cut white diamonds (approx. 3.50 carats), 55 emeralds (approx. 0 , 50 carats) and 15 blue sapphires (approx. 0.04 carats). It’s a vintage touch (maybe), but in addition to sapphire it hits the body of the ring covered with emeralds and marquise-cut diamonds. The perfect symmetry of the marquise cut contrasted by the asymmetry of the setting which for diamonds and emeralds reaches the bezel of the blue sapphire.

In de Grisogono’s creations, black diamonds could not be missing, almost a signature of the Geneva jeweler. This 18K yellow gold ring in the center shows a yellow coussin cut diamond (5.77 carats), 21 yellow baguette-cut diamonds (approximately 2.85 carats), but also 401 brilliant-cut black diamonds (approx. 7.15 carats). It does a great effect.
