Rising Sun for Van Cleef & Arpels

Van Cleef & Arpels and the masterpieces of Japanese handicrafts in a exhibition in Kyoto ♦
In the West, jewelery is often relegated to minor arts. It’s art yes, but cousin of the True Art, that of paintings and sculptures. In the Orient, instead, decorative arts, including jewelery, but also furniture or weaving, are works of art tout court. This philosophy turned into an exhibition organized in Kyoto, the Japan’s old capital, dedicated to Van Cleef & Arpels. Indeed, the French Maison is compared to Japanese artwork.

The idea is original. Van Cleef & Arpels is known for its unique style and technical excellence. It was founded in 1895 by Alfred Van Cleef, who married the daughter of a precious stone merchant, Esther (Estelle) Arpels. In 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels was established in Place Vendôme and since then has marked jewelery milestones.
In 1925, for example, a Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet wins to the International Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris. In the 1930s, Maison introduced the Minaudière, a special evening bag and got the patent for its Mystery Set, a unique technique that allows you to set precious stones without visible griffes. There are also the Zip necklace, the Alhambra collection, the famous Ballerinas, the high jewelery. In short, between technical innovation and artistic skill, Van Cleef & Arpels is something more than a jewelery company.
An artisan skill that in Japan was blooming at the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912), with the emergence of Japanese artisans who emphasized the originality and were considered artists. The Kyoto exhibition encourages visitors to compare about one hundred jewels of Van Cleef & Arpels with about 50 equally sublime examples of Japanese handicrafts, including cloisonné enamels, ceramics, lacquers and metal objects. But also of contemporary Japanese craftsmen such as Moriguchi Kunihiko, a yuzen dye master, Kitamura Takeshi, an important weave artist, raca tatenishiki, Nakagawa Kiyotsugu, Hattori Shunsho, Miwa Kyusetsu XII (Miwa Ryosaku).

Do not forget about Harry Winston

Do not forget about me, blooms in the Harry Winston collection ♦
Let’s say it straight away: romantic love is a good thing. But when it’s accompanied by a jewel is even better. On the other hand, gifting a jewel is a way to tie a woman to yourself. In short, it’s like saying it: remember me, do not forget. And that is why the forget-me-not flower is associated with hearts affair. And sometimes it is also associated with jewels, such as Harry Winston’s Forget-Me-Not collection.
As you will know, Maison Harry Winston is one of the most renowned for its diamond jewelery. And here, in fact, that the flowered meadow with forget-me-not flower is composed of diamonds on white gold. All the jewels (two necklaces, earrings, ring bracelet and even a pendant) proposed reproduce the corolla with six flower petals with pear-shaped, rounded and marquise stones. Needless to say that diamonds are top quality. And, in fact, how you could forget who gives you one? Lavinia Andorno

Sutra in green

An extraordinary necklace with diamonds and emeralds of Sutra. Watch the video ♦
Green is the color of the year 2017, according to Pantone. But, actually, in jewelery green is always been fashionable. Especially if the color of the leaves is what is reflected by precious emeralds. Sutra, Maison guided by Arpita Navlakha, with a workshop in Mumbai and roots in Texas, also knows it well. Emeralds, commonly used with diamonds, are one of the most used stones in collections. In Baselworld, for example, Sutra has presented, among other things, the extraordinary necklace (price: $ 1 million) you see in this video worn by a model. It consists of 24 emeralds pear-cut, plus a thirty diamonds also pear-cut, in addition to the pavé that covers the remainder.
But other Sutra jewels have a widespread use of green stones, such the ring with nine Colombian emeralds that surround a 7 carat diamond rose-cut, mounted on burnished gold. Or the 20 carat emeralds earrings, along with diamonds, on white gold. Or, again, the bracelet with 14 carats of Colombian emeralds and 38 carats of diamonds on white gold. Pieces that are part of the high jewelery collection and of dreams of many women. Giulia Netrese

The new pearls of Yoko London

The new jewels of Yoko London, always with exceptional quality pearls ♦
In the spring of 2017 Yoko London opened a new boutique in London, in Knightsbridge. And in March, he presented his new jewels to Baselworld. As always, they are organized in two families: bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces to wear in any time, and special pieces, Masterpiece (at special prices), for great occasions. But both jewelery lines share the same basic element: the pearls. Of great quality, colorful, large, small, shiny or opaque, of Thaïti or australian: all pearls that often form jewels that are far from the simple thread to the ladies’ neck. In short, pearls combined with fantasy and design.
Yoko London already has a considerable history behind it: it was founded in 1973, and is now led by the third generation of the Hakimian family. The wire has always been that of pearls, in natural colors and often of exceptional size. Among the novelties presented at Baselworld, there was also a bracelet with Akoya pearls and diamonds mounted on white gold. Alessia Mongrando

The 100 facets of Roberto Coin

New jewels in Roberto Coin’s Haute Couture collection. With a special cut ♦
Among its hundreds of lives and countless collections, the volcanic designer named Roberto Coin, one of the most colorful line of jewelry and loveliest is the Haute Couture. Cocktail rings and butterfly shaped brooches are made of precious stones and colors stones, from diamonds to tourmaline, from peridot to sapphire.

At Baseleworld 2017 also are showed new necklaces and rings, which have been inserted in the same collection. We talk about a necklace in white gold with pearls and blue sapphires with Cento cut, and of a similar necklace but with pink pearls and sapphires and coordinated rings. Let’s add that Cento cut is another of Roberto Coin’s ideas, which initially applied to diamonds. It is a cut that is obtained by dividing the stone into nine different sections from which to start and scrap the 100 facets that take the place of the traditionals 57-58. The effect is that of the kaleidoscope. Lavinia Andorno

Space Odyssey with Dominic Jones

Dominic Jones designed for Astley Clarke the Astronomy collection: a journey into the Solar System with jewelry ♦
Dominic Jones won five times the award as a Jewelery designer of the year, also appreciated by Anna Wintour. In 2009, therefore, she decided to gain recognition and gave birth to her brand in London. Like every successful designer, she has labeled in her block-notes the names of the stars of the show who wore her jewels, as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Florence Welch, while her jewels are distributed by Net-a-porter, Liberty, Joseph and Harvey Nichols in London, and Corso Como 10 (in Milan) in Italy. But that’s not enough.
In the fall, Dominic Jones became creative director of the London Mansion Astley Clarke. A few months later, here is the fruit of collaboration: the Astronomy collection. It’s a tour in the space or, better than the solar system, through earrings, rings and necklaces. Jewels with unquestionable creativity, at prices ranging between 450 and 5,300 euros. The materials used are gold, diamonds, sapphires, but also less expensive stones such as agate or (obviously) moonstone. it could not have been missing. Lavinia Andorno

Giovanni Raspini plays with Blue Note

The Blue Note collection by Giovanni Raspini: silver, but golden. Images and prices ♦
The blue note is a very special note that you find found in jazz and blues. From this musical singularity it has been named a famous club in New York City, where you can play or heard jazz. Finally, the reputation of Blue Note also came to Italy with the opening of a similar music-restaurant in Milan. But not only: in Florence, the silver specialist Giovanni Raspini has devised a collection called Blue Note. But it is different from the classic productions signed by Raspini.
In this case, in fact, Blue Note is in golden silver. On the metal there are also plaque inserts of lapis lazuli, with bronze scales. In the shape of a disc, or in the cabochon cuts, the blue and bronze are blended with the golden reflections of the castone. In short, something different than classic silver jewelery: style refers, if anything, to the seventies. The collection includes two pendants, a bracelet, a ring and a pair of earrings. Prices: bracelet 430 euro, ring 190 euro, earrings 240 euro, pendant 220 euro. Margherita Donato

The mythological snake of Jacob & Co

Jacob & Co’s sins with the Cerastes collection: seductive snakes ♦
Who knows why less-beloved beings in real life are so successful in the jewelery world. Snakes, insects, fierce felines: no one would want to spend time with these animals unless they are beyond a cage or glass. When the same dangerous animals are reproduced in gold and precious stones, however, everything changes. Indeed, these are the most popular subjects of designers and jewelers. As evidenced by the Cerastes collection, presented by Baselworld 2017, by Jacob & Co. The collection is dedicated to a creature of Greek mythology, the cerastes. These snakes are the most sinuous symbols of sin and seduction. Of course, it is just the sin we like the most. Jacob & Co offers two interpretations of these exotic (and dangerous) vipers: gold necklaces and bracelets, rubies marquise cut, diamonds and snake skin, which surround and tend towards the body, plus a couple of earrings. Sins can be enjoyable. Giulia Netrese

Summer in Paradise. Summer in the Tropics. That is, summer with Pandora. Tropical Paradise is always made of sterling silver, cubic zirconia, enamel to color of bijoux. There are also white orchids, in this case with light enamel, and hearts in new shades. Recarlo flowering with Gardenia

The Gardenia collection by Recarlo is based on three precious stones: sapphires, rubies and emeralds (but also some diamonds) ♦
An eye-catching gardenia on the suit has for decades been the distinguishing sign for elegant women and men, but also the fragrant icon of the beautiful season. Gardenia, however, is white. A little countercurrent, instead, Recarlo choses to dedicate to the immaculate flower a colorful collection, though in a setting of white gold. The Gardenia jewelry line has greeted the mildest spring temperature with a well-defined design: ovals of rubies, emeralds and blue sapphires, bordered by other smaller stones of the same type to make halo. There are also small diamonds placed on the ring stem or on the white gold of earrings. The collection includes ring, pendant and earring with monachella: three pieces for each stone, so nine in all. Rosa Castelbarco re-Mixed

A new mini collection of Rosa Castelbarco with colored stones on silver ♦
Rosa Castelbarco started her activity as jewelery designer with thin metal wires forming simple figures. Essential. But, let’s say, simplicity has a charm that does not last forever. Now the young Milanese designer launches into a new collection that, without abandoning the no-frills style, embraces the happy exuberance of color, already begun with the Minerale collection.
The new Mixed collection uses the same style: rough and painted stones, on thin frames as it is now in use in the style of Rosa. The necklaces form a rays with yellow ocher, mustard and fuchsia veins. The stones are mounted in silver. Coupled with the necklace there are the earrings, always in silver, with hanging three crude colored quartz. They point out. Giulia Netrese

The dragon fire heats Carrera y Carrera

The legend of the dragon with magical fire resumes in the Circulos de Fuego collection of Carrera y Carrera ♦
The legends have always inspired the artists. Not surprisingly, they also inspire designers and jewelers, especially if the legends are ancient, fascinating, exotic. Like that chosen by Carrera y Carrera for the Circulos de Fuego collection.
Here is the story from which it originated: once upon a time, there is a dragon called Orochie that lived on a hidden island in southern China. Throughout the realm it was known for turning every stone into the most precious metal with the flame coming out of its mouth. The legend states that the Emperor’s greatest desire was to get the Dragon’s Fire and thus possess the greatest treasure of the world. One morning, the Emperor decided to send his daughter, the most beautiful princess in the whole kingdom, to speak with Orochie. Princess Feng was so beautiful that Orochie fell in love with her and kissed her to gift her the fire. No one knew, however, that giving up his fire meant the death of the dragon. And so, she was so sad that decided not to marry and to always protect the fire of the Dragon with his own life.
From this romantic and sad story, the great Spanish Maison has embarked on a series of luscious jewels in white and yellow gold, plus a number of precious stones. These jewels will undoubtedly like in the Orient, but they also have a certain charm for Western women as well. Giulia Netrese

Tiffany & the City HardWear

/

Pictures and prices of Tiffany City HardWear collection ♦
As we mentioned before (read here), Tiffany launched a new jewelery collection, Tiffany City HardWear. The official idea is to represent New York’s energy and spirit. The real idea is to propose a line of jewels young, fresh and eye-catching for the Millenials. The proof is that the face of the new campaign is Lady Gaga. However, it is probable that jewels are more appreciated for what they are, a collection that can be easily worn, even to go to the office or to shop. Street style, in short, but obviously delicately sophisticated. To widen the audience of Maison enthusiasts on the Fifth Road and her potential customers, the jewels are available in two versions: in yellow, pink or silver. Same design, prices of course very different.
The design is very modern, almost industrial suggests Tiffany. The Link chain is characterized by simple and clean lines: the yellow gold chain necklace is created with scaled elements with a special retractable closure. The earrings are triple drops or, better, with three spheres held together by two small chains. There is also a single sphere model. Add to the bracelet a padlock and a small detachable ball. Prices: The bracelet costs 8,200 euros in the gold version, only 1,150 euros in silver. The three-ball earrings cost 3150 in the gold version and 580 euros in the silver version. Rings: With one sphere, the silver version costs 200 euros. Giulia Netrese

Cuba atmosphere for Carolina Ravarini

Carolina Ravarini’s new bijoux collection for the spring summer 2017 is inspired by Cuba ♦
Carolina Ravarini’s bijoux has become one of the milestones in Milan. The young designer, housed in the so-called Fashion Quadrilateral (among via Della Spiga and via Monte Napoleone), presented the new summer 2017 collection, inspired by a recent trip to Cuba. Exoticism and warmth of the Caribbean island are transfused into The coolest climate in the Lombardy city: polyps made of horn, silver fishes, the elephant, symbol of the Eastern world (but in Cuba it seems they are not found) in a new variant of stone and resin. Hoop earrings are the ones that remind us of Havana’s atmospheres. Natural stones such as quartz or agate are used for bijoux, with resin as well as copper. Prices: just over 150 euros the necklaces, about 50 euros the earrings.

Lebole does talk bijoux

A phrase or a word in French for the collection «Parlez pour moi» by Lebole Jewels ♦
In a world that speaks English, the sweet French idiom is welcome. Not only because French is a language of Latin origin and, therefore, with the soft pronunciation. But also because the language of Brigitte Bardot and Jean-Paul Sartre, Marcel Proust and Sophie Marceau, to mix culture and entertainment, is so out of date as to be the ultimate in fashion. That’s why bjoux Lebole Jewels collection of Parlez pour moi are really different from usual.
The jewelry line consists of six coins made of gold and silver, colour black worked, mounted on bracelets, necklaces and earrings, each of which carries a sentence inscribed in French. Here they are: A toi ma (To you, my), Parlez pour moi (Talk to me), Ne m’oubliez pas (Do not forget me), Bonjour (Hello), Fidelité (Fidelity), Porte Bonheur (Good luck). The coins are made of gold and silver black, mounted on bracelets, necklaces and earrings, each of which bears a word or phrase. Prices: from € 75 (bracelets) to 100 euro (necklaces).
