12 jewelery watches for 2017

Here are 12 jewelery watches that all would like to have on your wrist.
To know what time is it you don’t need a clock: smartphones and computers are always on hand to unveil the time with absolute precision. But a bracelet that, among other things, also marks the time, is something else. The jewelry-watch does not belong to the category of simple mechanisms that mark the seconds. They are an ornament, an accessory, a precious ring that encircles the wrist and do a shining. The most precious also are masterpieces of high jewelry, with elaborate scale of diamonds and precious stones, able to warm up the eyes (and wallet) who seeks them and the wearer. Often they have diamonds, with pavé in elaborate geometric patterns shape. Others prefer intricate decorations around the watch case, usually reduced to a minimum. But there are those who embarks on combinations of colored stones and even coral. Here, then, 12 watches which are mostly jewelery, to count the hours of a new year. Lavinia Andorno

Cartier returns to Love

A new version of the Love bracelet by Cartier designed by Aldo Cipullo: now you can wear without assistance.
Back, renovated, one of the most famous jewels: the Love bracelet designed by Aldo Cipullo in 1970. Cartier, in fact, decided to revive what is one of the most loved jewelry, but also simple, by Maison. Cipullo, Italian designer who emigrated in 1959 to New York, he worked for Tiffany and David Webb, but its history is tied hand in glove with that of bracelet Love by Cartier and not only. The idea of the designer was been simple, but at the same time can be read in different ways. The bracelet is composed of two semicircles attached to the wrist by two small screws vermeil. The bracelet was sold with a screwdriver. Who receives it must therefore be helped by those who gave to seal the union of two semicircles: a symbolic act, then. For the sake of truth we must add that at those time this symbolism has been questioned by some members of the feminist movement. On the other hand, it been enjoyed by famous couples like Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti, Dyan Cannon and Cary Grant.
Cartier, now, proposes the Love bracelet with a variant: requires only one screw, because it’s added a zipper. Thus, the wearer can lock it by herself or remove it from arm without assistance. The appearance, however, has not changed much, although it is a bit ‘thinner.
Cartier, however, is also planning another tribute to Cipullo: to April 2017 is planned to launch a Juste a Clou, a giant version of the bracelet-shaped nail, large enough to encircle the neck. Bracelet Love, instead, after making his debut at Harrods will be available from January 2017. Alessia Mongrando

Sotheby’s, surprises collectibles

Jewelry style, collector rings, magnificent jewels: there are last fireworks of the year at auction at Sotheby’s in December.
Lovers of exceptional jewelry, collectors of gemstones, design lover: it is the your moment. As every year, the big auction houses ring the trumpets before Christmas and, like the fireworks year-end, they reserve for the last few minutes the sound barrels, the flashes that make gape, the lights of antique jewelry and pedigree.
Licthblau collection
In New York, on 8 and 9 December Sotheby’s takes the field with two sets of sales. The first day is reserved for the Magnificent Jewels, with jewelry from the collection of George and Anne Licthblau. George Lichtblau, entrepreneur, studied electrical engineering at Princeton University before attending Harvard Business School, after which he became an innovator of optical fiber industry, founding two transmission companies to great success. It disappeared last August. Anna, also known as Gladys, graduated from Simmons College before marrying George in 1968. She died in July. The collection of jewels auctioned Lichtblau is quite wide and varied. It includes pieces by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Tiffany. In particular, Sotheby’s noted two flexible bracelets by Van Cleef & Arpels: a mystery-set rubies and a diamond bracelet (estimate dollars 125-175000) and a mystery-set sapphire and diamonds (estimate 80- $ 120,000). The mystery set is that of a patented technique in 1933 that allows the stones to be stopped without see the griffes. The collection also includes a jadeite and diamond brooch by Cartier (estimate 100-150,000 dollars) dated circa 1925.
Collection Joan Oestreich Kend
This sale is characterized by private collections. Joan Oestreich Kend was one of the first female stockbrokers on Wall Street. Grew up in a wealthy family, was always surrounded by art and antiques. The pleasure of buying beautiful things has not lost during his life in New York, in his apartment on Fifth Avenue, where she was exposed the Oestreich Kend collection. The jewels include a wide selection of famous jewels of the seventies. A highlight of the collection is a diamond ring emerald-cut 11.15 carat (estimated 425 to 525,000 dollars) and a classic set of necklace and the parenthesis clip series of Bulgari (estimated 18 to 22,000 dollars).
Gifts session
The second auction at Sotheby’s is dedicated to Fine Jewels, dedicated to those who want to buy high-quality pieces, perhaps to make a gift. There are jewels from Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier and Bulgari. But also it includes jewels of the collection of Marjorie S. Fisher and Lichtblau. Among the valuable pieces, a diamond necklace Suzanne Belperron (estimate 40-60,000 dollars). Federico Graglia

The new Panthère by Cartier

La Panthère by Cartier in the form of ring, made in new shapes, eternal in substance.
Of myths there are only a few, but those who resist seem to have eternal life: for example, the sea of Capri, the macarons and Panthère collection of Cartier. The feline, symbol of the Maison, entered in the Paris jewelry in 1914. Since then he never left. Also because it was the same founder, Louis Cartier, to use the beloved panther by Jeanne Toussaint, his closest collaborator, jewelry designer and lover. In short, love, eros and animal instinct are intertwined as in a novel. But it is a novel that has been successful and this explains why Cartier, after a century, continues to revive the Panthère collection and why the jewelry inspired by the big cat are still so popular. One reason is that Cartier was able to decline the Panthers in a series of jewelry that satisfied everyone. There are rings, bracelets, pendants, all with the classic form of the panther, obviously with a design suitable to modern times. And virtually every budget. The rings that we publish on this page, for example, range from 6000 Euros up to 205,000 Euros, plus a piece (the most expensive), which has a price unknown (is on request). In short, fans of all ages and economic means can take home a panther. The neighbors will not have anything to say. Alessia Mongrando

Rare diamonds
In addition to jewelry, at the auction in Geneva will be presented particularly interesting diamonds, including a Pink Fancy Vivid pear-shaped, of 9.14 carats with an estimated of 18 million dollars. This diamond has the advantage of having no trace of a secondary color, which makes it extremely rare and attractive. It was heavy 968.9 carats, was the fourth-largest diamond, the Cullinan after, the Excelsior and Lesedi La Rona. In its time it was sold, rough, from De Beers to Harry Winston, October 3, 1972, for just under $ 2.5 million. After being cut, has produced 17 gems, with a total of 238.48 carats, including 13 stones are impeccable. This diamond with pear cut was acquired December 26, 1973, by the current owner’s family and is part of the original Star of Sierra Leone. It weighs 21.69 carats and is mounted on a ring from Harry Winston. The estimate is between 1.4 to 1.8 million dollars.
Pedigree noble
Auction there are also jewels of Countess Mona von Bismarck: a bracelet with a marquise-cut diamond, weighing approximately 7.13 carats, made by Cartier is estimated 500 to 700,000 dollars. Mona von Bismarck was a trendsetter. Born in America, in 1899 in Louisville, in 1953 she married in third marriage Count Edward von Bismarck, the grandson of the German chancellor Otto von Bismarck.
Of note is a sapphire and diamond bracelet by Van Cleef & Arpels, includes three stones in the shape of the Kashmir pillow, surrounded by baguette cut diamonds that form an articulated bracelet (estimate: 1.7 to 2.7 million). One of the rings with sapphire offered for sale is set on an octagonal (estimate: 1.7 to 2.7 million) and another sapphire sugar loaf is estimated 1.8 to 2 millions). Federico Graglia

Four to Pad

Four signatures of the jewel at Pad in London, the largest trade show dedicated to luxury design.
In London the Pad comes back and turns ten. For lovers of antiques, decorative art, sculpture, photography and, finally, jewelry, will host over 65 international exhibitors. The jewels are represented by four companies: Karry Berreby (France), Louisa Guinness (UK), Hemmerle (Germany), Siegelson (Usa). In practice, only Hammerle is a Maison that produces jewelry, while the other three are fine retailers of antiques or vintage. There are, however, reasons of interest, as you can see from the pictures on this page.
The exhibition dedicated to the design started in 2007 with only about twenty exhibitors, the most important international operators. But it has expanded over time. The Pad has decided to support the rise of design as a high-end art and in 2009 expanded its global reach with the introduction of modern art, photography, tribal art and jewelry, referring to his French roots, with the fair sister, the Pad Paris. For jewelery, Louisa Guinness works with the most important sculptors and painters today to create jewelry. Hemmerle is a jeweler that focuses on originality of its proposal, with an avant-garde design in spite of the tradition dating back to 1893. A single piece of Hemmerle may require more than 500 hours of work and can spend years waiting to find the perfect colored stones to complete a piece.
Lee Siegelson proposes special jewels of the nineteenth century, the historic Art Nouveau and Art Deco, up to contemporary designer pieces. It is active since 1920 and has earned a solid reputation. Kerry Berreby, finally, is a famous Parisian Maison for his sculpture jewels and his discoveries of unique works by Van Cleef Andrew Grima, Cartier, David Webb, Boivin. Federico Graglia

(Italiano) Festival, a Venezia vince Cartier

At the Venice Film Festival, the Golden Lion for the jewelry goes to Cartier for the collier wore by Monica Bellucci.
The Venice Film Festival ended with a challenge with no holds barred. But, in addition to the awards for actors and directors, the battle on the red carpet has involved great names in jewelery. There is a clear winner in this glitzy War: Cartier. The French company, in fact, was present with the great necklace worn by Ambassador for official occasions of the brand Monica Bellucci, under escort of four bodyguards (in every sense, in this case). At the screening of On the milky road directed by Emir Kusturica, Monica Bellucci, the protagonist, wore a necklace made of four strands of diamonds and pearls and a large pendant with a big stone. The estimated value of the jewel, one piece, is 5 million euro. After the screening of the film, the jewel was immediately taken to safety. It won, for sure, the Golden Lion for jewelry. A place of honor, however, one has earned de Grisogono. On the occasion of the premiere of Indobious Battle, Ashley Greene on the red carpet has worn the Fan earrings black and white, perfectly matched to her dress signed by Alberta Ferretti. Less showy the presence of Tiffany: jewels of the American company have been worn by Claudia Potenza, leading actress of the film Monte by Amir Naderi (Elsa Peretti earrings Snake in silver). Tiffany also Chinese actress Zhao Wei and member of the jury, who chose Tiffany Jazz earrings in platinum and diamonds. Giulia Netrese

A face for Cartier Magicien

The magical German model Toni Garrn for Cartier.
Toni Garrn, 24, is the new face of Cartier to present the new high jewelry collection Magicien. Diamonds, rubies and emeralds are located right on the skin of the muse portrayed in front of a blue wall, dimly lit, with a light that creates a cozy atmosphere. In some shoots, a mirror reflects light and shade of this stylish and valuable combination. The trick of the model highlights the magic moment. Necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings made from precious stones and natural pearls are portraits by photographer Ben Hassett. The Magicien collection of Cartier has three distinct categories or, better, incantations: that of light, the projects and the otherworldly. The style of jewelry is loosely inspired by the art-deco. For the top model of Hamburg it is not the first collaboration with Cartier. The luxury brand has involved Toni Garrn even for the campaign of Cartier Baiser Volé perfume. Alessia Mongrando

Oscar Heyman, shadow of luxury

A century in the shadow of luxury: as it could be defined as the story of Oscar Heyman, one of the great designers of the twentieth century. Her jewelry, which continue to shine the eyes of the admirers, they were often mistaken for others. For years, in fact, the jewelry created by Oscar Heyman & Brothers have been made on behalf of large houses like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Tiffany & Co, Shreve, Crump & Low, Bailey, Marcus & Co. The story of Oscar Heyman He starts in Latvia, in the early twentieth century. The family worked, apparently, for the Russian Faberge, famous Maison for its elaborate jewelry. In 1912 Oscar and brothers moved to New York, with a commitment: to pass on through generations their skills. A skill that, as mentioned, has been appreciated by the biggest names in jewelery. When asked if this was not depressing anonymity, one of the brothers, George Heyman, he responded: “We took care of our customers, the retailers. We were in the back room. ” But the story did not end here, because Oscar Heyman has also begun to produce jewelry with his brand, and still continues. Are pieces of luxury, from several thousand dollars (or Euros) each. At the third generation, the Heymans continue to do everything yourself: drawings, metal alloys, cutting, embedding, polishing. A way of working is not very usual in the United States. But that’s just the way to make jewelry like the ones you see on this page. Lavinia Andorno

Dream of rubies

Do you like rubies? Obvious. They are one of the most popular precious stones, although they are often confused with spinels and garnets. A ruby has a color ranging from pink to blood red (they are the most valuable). From a point of view of Gemology is a variety of corundum (aluminum oxide), which is transparent: the color is mainly due to the presence in its interior of chrome. Its name comes from the Latin word ruber, which means red. But, what is more interesting is the use of the ruby in jewelry: it is one of the most popular gemstones since ancient times. To celebrate this stone, Sotheby’s has decided to compare some of the most beautiful pieces (the full gallery can be found here) sold by the auction house: there are simple rings with a large ruby, but also more complex creations, like the brooch that is a peacock which weighs 48.57 carats, or the classic Panthère by Cartier, or the brooch of the series Dancers by Van Cleef & Arpels. But the most expensive ruby at the moment is mounted on a Cartier ring: it was sold for 30 million dollars. Federico Graglia

Cartier, Cactus collection

Desire to wear something different: Cartier decided to take a very pointed way with the Cactus collection. To the plant that grows in sunny and dry places, but capable of glowing blooms, are inspired by the jewels of the collection presented in Paris. In addition to assume forms that resemble plants bristling with thorns, the jewelry often take up the colors of cactus, through the use of stones like emerald, chrysoprase or carnelian. In some cases the stones are treated as beads mounted close to each other, in a sort of gibbous surface. In all, the collection consists of 13 pieces, with the yellow gold that is well suited to the dry climate of the cacti, where also flourish diamonds, lapis lazuli and tanzanite. All jewels are XL size: impossible not to notice them. On the other hand, all good things have hidden thorns. Lavinia Andorno

In Monaco an auction with Belperron & c

You want to combine the sea, the luxury and the thrill of an auction of jewelry? Write down on your schedule this date: 16-19 July. In the Principality of Monaco, under the insignia of Artcurial, at the Hotel Hermitage is scheduled for a summer marathon that includes the sale of 563 pieces. There’s something for all tastes, from a auction value of one thousand euro (for a brooch with diamonds), up to rise to much higher estimates. And it is understandable why: next to interesting pieces, but anonymous, there are charm bracelets, rings and necklaces of the largest names in jewelery from Bulgari to Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier to Boucheron. But don’t less the signatures of the great designers, as in the case of Suzanne Belperron, which we have chosen to symbolize the event, or Jean Vendôme or French sculptors Arman and Cesar. The pieces in auction go from a jewelry of the early twentieth century to contemporary pieces, with an (obvious) prevalence of the French Maison. The pieces, on tan skin, should stand out very well. Buccellati goes to Switzerland

Buccellati bye-bye: it is wrote by the newspaper Sole24Ore and nobody has denied it. An article by Carlo Festa, draws a farewell from the Italian fund of private equity Clessidra. Buccellati will end up on Swiss bank of Lake Geneva, in the big house of the Richemont group. After the disappearance, in January, of the founder of Hourglass, Claudio Sposito, seems to go down the idea of a center of Italian luxury, which had been toyed with the entry into private equity fund of Francesco Trapani. Who is a former number one of Bulgari, sold five years ago to the French LVMH group. Trapani became vice president of Clessidra with the idea of bringing together under one hat other luxury brands, a bit ‘as the French group Bernard Arnault or François Pinault’s Kering , which controls inter alia, the Italian brand Pomellato. Or also the Swiss Richemont group, which already owns brands such as Cartier, Piaget and Van Cleef & Arpels. The argument between the wife of Sposito, Manuela Del Castillo and Trapani, which is going from Clessidra, instead has revolutionized the strategy. And will be no a big group of Italian jewelry: Buccellati will end in the land of William Tell. Whether he wants it or not Andrea Buccellati, president and representative of the family founder, who maintains a minority stake in the company. Federico Graglia

In London, the jewelry designs

If you go to London, do not miss going to see the exhibition Master of Design, organized by Sotheby’s in New Bond Street on some of the greatest designs of jewelry. But the protagonist, for once, is the preparation work for the realization of jewels: in particular, the drawings depicting rings, bracelets and earrings before they work in the laboratories of gold. To admire, there are hundreds of new designs of the most prestigious Maison, such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron, Vegetable, Rubin and Bolin. The period is from 1890 to 1960. You can see, for example, drawings of historical pieces, such as Tutti Frutti jewels by Cartier or Van Cleef & Arpels creations of the Art Deco period. There are also curiosities, such as projects for jewels tailored to famous customers, such as the Vanderbilts family or the Princess Marie Bonaparte, who contributed to the jewelry project that have not been marketed for the general public. Not to be missed. Federico Graglia

The year of the monkey

Last year Cara Delevigne at her sister Poppy’s wedding wore a necklace with a sapphire pendant, in monkey shape. The jewel, by De Grisogono, has an estimated value of approximately 350 thousand euro. But it is in 2016 that the jewelry in the shape of a monkey know a resounding success. The reason is simple: this year, according to the Chinese horoscope, is the year of the monkey. A coincidence that prompted most of the jewelers to find in drawers or design some earrings, rings and necklaces in the shape of the animal closest to humans. That, in fact, has long been a subject of the most favorite animal in the collections, as you can see from these images. The last in order of time, the ring with monkey that we tracked in space by Roberto Coin at VicenzaOro January: is gold, with a diamond-paved. On the other hand, according to the Chinese zodiac monkey is a sign dedicated to creative people, inventors, designers. In a nutshell, the jewelry designer. Lavinia Andorno

Bulgari overcomes Isabella of Spain

The sample of Christie’s auction in London on December 2 is a suite of sapphires and diamonds signed Bulgari. The suite consists of a necklace with sapphires cut cushion-shaped and brilliant-cut diamond, joined by others marquise and pear cut, with hidden lock. Along with the necklace there are a couple of dangling earrings. The suite, dated 1965, was sold for over $ 1 million, 300.000 more than the initial estimate. In second place in the hit-parade of jewelry is a necklace made up of 44 natural pearls «ownership of a European royal family»: it’s went from the neck of a queen (or princess) to the hands of an unknown buyer for $ 339 thousand. And the gray pearls necklace belonged to Queen Isabella of Spain, which had been presented as the star among the lots for sale? It was not sold: history was not enough to charm buyers at asking price (from 700,000 to 1 million dollars). They were most appreciated jewelery with less curriculum, but more substance. Like the emerald necklace and rock crystal of Cartier, sold for 320 thousand dollars. Or the pair of earrings mid fifties, always signed Cartier, with rubies and diamonds cut shuttles, forming a flower arrangement: sold for $ 167000. As well as another couple, always with rubies and sapphires, shaped chandelier, sold for $ 157000. At the end of story: to find a buyer, you don’t need just a real pedigree, but the shape and the value of the jewel. Federico Graglia
