To know what time is it you don’t need a clock: smartphones and computers are always on hand to unveil the time with absolute precision. But a bracelet that, among other things, also marks the time, is something else. The jewelry-watch does not belong to the category of simple mechanisms that mark the seconds. A new version of the Love bracelet by Cartier designed by Aldo Cipullo: now you can wear without assistance.
Back, renovated, one of the most famous jewels: the Love bracelet designed by Aldo Cipullo in 1970. Cartier, in fact, decided to revive what is one of the most loved jewelry, but also simple, by Maison. Cipullo, Italian designer who emigrated in 1959 to New York, he worked for Tiffany and David Webb, but its history is tied hand in glove with that of bracelet Love by Cartier and not only. The idea of the designer was been simple, but at the same time can be read in different ways. The bracelet is composed of two semicircles attached to the wrist by two small screws vermeil. The bracelet was sold with a screwdriver. Who receives it must therefore be helped by those who gave to seal the union of two semicircles: a symbolic act, then. For the sake of truth we must add that at those time this symbolism has been questioned by some members of the feminist movement. Jewelry style, collector rings, magnificent jewels: there are last fireworks of the year at auction at Sotheby’s in December.
Lovers of exceptional jewelry, collectors of gemstones, design lover: it is the your moment. As every year, the big auction houses ring the trumpets before Christmas and, like the fireworks year-end, they reserve for the last few minutes the sound barrels, the flashes that make gape, the lights of antique jewelry and pedigree.
Licthblau collection
In New York, on 8 and 9 December Sotheby’s takes the field with two sets of sales. The first day is reserved for the Magnificent Jewels, with jewelry from the collection of George and Anne Licthblau. George Lichtblau, entrepreneur, studied electrical engineering at Princeton University before attending Harvard Business School, after which he became an innovator of optical fiber industry, founding two transmission companies to great success. It disappeared last August. Anna, also known as Gladys, graduated from Simmons College before marrying George in 1968. She died in July. The collection of jewels auctioned Lichtblau is quite wide and varied. It includes pieces by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Tiffany. In particular, Sotheby’s noted two flexible bracelets by Van Cleef & Arpels: a mystery-set rubies and a diamond bracelet (estimate dollars 125-175000) and a mystery-set sapphire and diamonds (estimate 80- $ 120,000). The mystery set is that of a patented technique in 1933 that allows the stones to be stopped without see the griffes. The collection also includes a jadeite and diamond brooch by Cartier (estimate 100-150,000 dollars) dated circa 1925.

The new Panthère by Cartier

Rare diamonds

Four signatures of the jewel at Pad in London, the largest trade show dedicated to luxury design.
In London the Pad comes back and turns ten. For lovers of antiques, decorative art, sculpture, photography and, finally, jewelry, will host over 65 international exhibitors. The jewels are represented by four companies: Karry Berreby (France), Louisa Guinness (UK), Hemmerle (Germany), Siegelson (Usa). In practice, only Hammerle is a Maison that produces jewelry, while the other three are fine retailers of antiques or vintage. There are, however, reasons of interest, as you can see from the pictures on this page.
The exhibition dedicated to the design started in 2007 with only about twenty exhibitors, the most important international operators. But it has expanded over time. The Pad has decided to support the rise of design as a high-end art and in 2009 expanded its global reach with the introduction of modern art, photography, tribal art and jewelry, referring to his French roots, with the fair sister, the Pad Paris. For jewelery, Louisa Guinness works with the most important sculptors and painters today to create jewelry. Hemmerle is a jeweler that focuses on originality of its proposal, with an avant-garde design in spite of the tradition dating back to 1893. A single piece of Hemmerle may require more than 500 hours of work and can spend years waiting to find the perfect colored stones to complete a piece.

We just wrote that Sotheby’s auction held in Hong Kong on October 4 and that promises to be very interesting (article here). But the auction house has also an other appointment in its program. On 22 September in New York it’s scheduled another auction of jewelry with pieces by René Lalique and Louis Comfort Tiffany, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier. In addition to a good number of diamonds and precious stones. The sale of Important Jewels includes over 200 jewelry prices from 3,000 dollars. Among the most interesting pieces, Sotheby’s noted a ring of René Lalique, the father of design in Art Nouveau style. The sensual curves of gold, combined with enamel and cut crystal ring are a single piece (estimate 15,000-20,000 dollars). It remains famous collaboration of designers with actress Sarah Bernhard, which led to the creation of two jewelry snake shape for the role as the Empress Theodora. A century in the shadow of luxury: as it could be defined as the story of Oscar Heyman, one of the great designers of the twentieth century. Do you like rubies? Obvious. They are one of the most popular precious stones, although they are often confused with spinels and garnets. A ruby has a color ranging from pink to blood red (they are the most valuable). From a point of view of Gemology is a variety of corundum (aluminum oxide), which is transparent: the color is mainly due to the presence in its interior of chrome. Desire to wear something different: Cartier decided to take a very pointed way with the Cactus collection. To the plant that grows in sunny and dry places, but capable of glowing blooms, are inspired by the jewels of the collection presented in Paris. In addition to assume forms that resemble plants bristling with thorns, the jewelry often take up the colors of cactus, through the use of stones like emerald, chrysoprase or carnelian. In some cases the stones are treated as beads mounted close to each other, in a sort of gibbous surface.
