Princess Elizabeth von Thurn und Taxis wears super jewels for Sotheby’s auction ♦ ︎

He spent his childhood in the grand palace with 500 rooms of St Emmeram in Regensburg, Bavaria. Inside, Princess Elizabeth von Thurn and Taxis she grew up along with her mother’s large contemporary art collection, Princess Mariae Gloria. Nobility, art, wealth. It is no surprise that Sotheby’s now asked Elizabeth von Thurn and Taxis to wear the Magnificent Jewels that will go to the auction in Geneva on November 13th.

Among the 450 pieces on sale there are period jewels, from the 1920s, but also contemporary ones. We have already talked about the Art Deco bracelet made by Cartier in 1927, set with a Burmese sapphire cabochon weighing 46.07 carats and two diamonds of 8.60 and 9.27 carats.

Also with the precious blue stone, a fan-shaped 1937 Cartier brooch is made, with a cushion-cut sapphire of 9.09 carats, other sapphires of different sizes, and brilliant-cut diamonds and baguette. Equally precious, again by Cartier, is a tiara-necklace from the 1930s. The central panel is detachable, pierced, between a graduated series of palmettes and arrowhead motifs, set with circular cut and cushion-shaped diamonds. In addition to turning into a necklace, the central element can be detached and transformed into a brooch.

And always by Cartier, dated 1227, are the emerald pendant / brooch and an imposing seventies necklace, also of emeralds and diamonds. A Bulgari necklace, also from the Seventies, with diamonds and sapphires is also very strong. Collector stones are not missing: the top is a 3 carat blue diamond mounted on a ring. It is estimated at between 7 and 4.7 million Swiss francs. For contemporary jewelery, there are the Jar-signed earrings with amethyst, Ceylon sapphire and diamonds. Federico Graglia

Reza al Tefaf’s jewels

///

Maison Reza’s fine jewelery arrives at Tefaf in New York ♦

It is not uncommon for jewelers to have lives or adventurous stories behind them. This is especially true for the great jewelery makers from the East or the Middle East. And it is also the case of Alexandre Reza, who died in Paris in 2016 at 94, but with a story worthy of a novel. Suffice it to say that he was considered the greatest collector of gems of modern times, before becoming a jeweler. And from 1 to 5 November the jewels of the Maison that he founded can be seen at the New York edition of Tefaf, the great exhibition dedicated to objects of art, antiquities and luxury and collectible jewels. Today the Maison is run by the founder’s son, Olivier, at the Place Vendôme site.

Alexandre Reza was born in 1922 in Moscow, son of a jeweler. Like other Russian families, after the October Revolution the Rezas moved to France, first to Nice and then to Paris. He began his career as a diamond expert, traveling a lot to find every stone. Alexandre Reza has also supplied gems to jewelry brands such as Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, Chaumet, Harry Winston, Louis Gérard and Van Cleef & Arpels. And as has happened to many other merchants and gemstone experts, at one point he decided to turn himself into a jeweler. But of gram class: only high jewelry with rare diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. According to the Sotheby’s auction house, “movement, lightness, composition and harmony are the key words of his works”.

But mishaps were not missed: in 1994 armed thieves stole gems worth about $ 21 million in the jeweler’s salon in Paris. On the other hand, in May 2010 Sotheby’s sold a fancy 5.02 carat blue fancy diamond set in a toi-et-moi ring next to a 5.42-carat white diamond of 6.3 million dollars, setting a record price for a jewel of Reza. Bulgari, jewels on display

Spectacular jewelry by Bulgari in an exhibition in Italy dedicated to the Roman Maison ♦ ︎

Not everyone knows that the origin of the Bulgari name derives from the fact that the historic jewelry Maison, which is now part of the LVMH group, was founded in Bulgaria. But it happened a long time ago: in 1884. Bulgari was founded by the Greek silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris, who arrived in Italy and became Sotirio Bulgari. Many years have passed and Bulgari has become an icon of luxury, capable of creating exceptional jewels.

Now the most beautiful jewels of the Bulgari Heritage collection, including those belonging to the divas of the Dolce Vita, will be exhibited from June 26 (inauguration on the 25th) until November 3rd, in the exhibition entitled Bulgari, the story, the dream, hosted by two locations Museum Center of Lazio, Castel Sant’Angelo and Palazzo Venezia.

The project was conceived by the Polo Museale del Lazio, directed by Edith Gabrielli, in collaboration with Bulgari and created through contents selected by a scientific committee composed of exponents of the academic world such as Francesco Benigno (Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa), Chiara Ottaviano (historian and sociologist of mass communication), Daniela Luigia Caglioti (University Federico II of Naples), Emanuela Scarpellini (University of Milan). The themes related to style and creativity were developed by Lucia Boscaini, Bulgari brand and heritage curator. Curated by Chiara Ottaviano, the exhibition traces the history of Bulgari as an example of success in luxury.

Bulgari’s Cinemagia

//

The superb Cinemagia collection by Bulgari: high-jewelry at the highest level ♦

What distinguishes fine jewelry from high jewelry? We explain it to you: it is the rustling of a film that flows through an old projector. You don’t believe it? And then you let’s look at the Action! necklace, which is part of the new collection of a few, exceptional pieces by Bulgari. The collection is called Cinemagia and, as its name indicates, is dedicated to the amazing world of cinema.

Collana Action! in oro bianco, diamanti, zirconio nero
Collana Action! in oro bianco, diamanti, zirconio nero

The Action! necklace, that we said, is composed of 32 carats of white diamonds and black zirconium. And celebrates the invention of the celluloid film of 1885. The shape, in fact, evokes the very shape and flexibility of a cinematographic film. Inside, however, there is a spring mechanism hidden behind the round element that resembles the coils on which the film is wrapped. By rotating this element you can hear the sound similar to that of the old projectors. The spring then returns the element to its original position.

Bulgari, alta gioielleria, collier con zaffiri per 38,89 carati e 188 smeraldi, diamanti

It is not just a little game, but it is one of those refinements that concern, in fact, only high jewelry. Cinemagia, on the other hand, evokes something magical, as cinema was perceived at its debut, over a century ago. And the pieces presented by Bulgari are, in fact, worthy of the best tradition of the Maison. A necklace inspired by pirate treasures, of course those found in adventure films, combines 38.89 carats of sapphires of different origins, 188 small emeralds cabochons cut, diamonds, and a 500-hour hand-crafted process. Another necklace has a geometric chain on which there are over 270 emeralds and diamonds, on which is attached a pendant that encloses an octagonal cut Colombian emerald with an octagonal cut of 24.46 carats. And the other pieces are no different: watching them is a real show. Like being at the cinema.

The best jewels of Cannes

The best jewels seen on the red carpet of the Festival of Cannes 2019: Messika, de Grisogono, Cartier, Bulgari, Chopard and …  ♦︎

Jewels on the red carpet, jewels worn by the stars, jewels that are worth a trip to see them: the Cannes Film Festival has always been this too. The 2019 edition does not differ from this apotheosis of diamonds, colored stones, necklaces and earrings with reflections that can be spotted from miles away. Here, then, are some first-class jewels that have aroused envy, admiration and regret (for those who could not wear them).

One of the most active and brilliant houses in Cannes is undoubtedly the Parisian Messika: at the opening ceremony the Turkish actress Dilan Deniz unveiled the extraordinary North Wind necklace from Once Upon A Time’s High Once collection, the Desert Bloom earrings from the collection Born to be wild jewelry store and Mata Hari bracelet from the Paris est une Fête fine jewelry collection. As if that weren’t enough, he showed off his iconic Roman and Glam’Azone double rings and a My Twin ring.

The jewels of the Met Gala

//

Tiffany, Harry Winston, Cartier, de Grisogono: here are the jewels worn by celebrities at the Met Gala held in New York ♦ ︎

It always happens on the first Monday in May. And it has become one of the most popular social events: the Met Gala is the equivalent of the Los Angeles Oscars, only held in New York and focused on fashion. In any case, the Met Gala is the occasion to show off the most extraordinary clothes and jewels, capable of attracting the attention of photographers and, obviously, of the public. This is what happened punctually even in 2019. Here, then, are some of the most interesting appearances, from Lady Gaga to Katy Perry.

But, of course, the Met Gala is above all a fundraiser for charity. It is organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the money collected is used to support its activities dedicated to fashion and costume. The event is organized by the director of Vogeu Usa, Anna Wintour, by a special committee. Participating in the dinner is expensive: tickets can cost up to $ 30,000, which goes up to 300,000 for companies (for a table), but even this is not enough: the guests are personally selected by Anna Wintour.

This year’s guest list included celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Harry Styles, Lupita Nyong’o, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry. If you are amazed by the clothes chosen, know that every year a theme is chosen for the show at the Met that follows the dinner, and that it is also the code for the party. This year the theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion: difficult to interpret.

And the jewels? Many, gorgeous, surprising. In particular those of Harry Winston, Tiffany and de Grisogono, which you see on this page.

Pink and blue colored diamonds, large jewels, sapphire brooches and, of course, jade jewelry at Christie’s auction in Hong Kong ♦ ︎

Magnificent Jewels in Hong Kong on May 28th. Under the lens of enthusiasts, a collection of jewels and stones with a particularly lively character is outlined. Starting with the 3.01-carat pink diamond mounted on a ring signed Moussaieff and estimated at between 6 and 8 million dollars. And for those who do not like pink, here is the ring with a fancy vivid blue diamond of 3.01 carats, estimated between 4.7 and 7 million dollars. In large Asian auctions, pieces of large precious stones are never missing. And here is the Grand Muzos, a pair of earrings with natural Colombian emerald of 23.34 and 23.18 carats respectively, which according to experts are worth between 3.8 and 6.5 million dollars. Among the jewels of the great European Maisons, a Bulgari necklace of diamonds, with a blue-green diamond, is valued between 1.6 and 2.3 million dollars. Finally, Christie’s highlights the importance of an untreated Kashmir sapphire brooch with 26.42 carats (4-6.5 million). In Kashmir the finest sapphires have been found (the mine is now exhausted), adored for their rich cornflower blue color. This sapphire is the largest ever offered on the market. Lawful to expect battle for its conquest. Federico Graglia

LVMH book Baselworld 2020

The LVMH group will participate in the upcoming Baselworld fair, as well as Rolex ♦︎

An important news for the 81,200 visitors who went to Baselworld in 2019, but above all for the undecided exhibitors whether to return to the great watch and jewelery fair. The LVMH group, in fact, has confirmed that it will be present at the next edition, that of 2020. The French luxury giant will therefore be on the track with the Bulgari, Hublot, Tag Heuer and Zenith brands, which will still be in the four huge stands at entrance to hall 1. It is likely that the director of the fair, Michel Loris-Melikoff, breathed a sigh of relief, given that most of the attendance at Baselworld is influenced by the big brands. Rolex also confirmed its presence at Baselworld 2020 and, indeed, will also occupy the space left free by Breitling with Tudor, who has instead chosen to change air.
But the Swiss fair looks further ahead and is studying new concepts and formats for 20121.

We support Michel Loris-Melikoff and his team in their project to redefine and renew the concept of this great event for the Swiss watch industry
Stéphane Bianchi, Ceo Lvmh Watchmaking Division and CEO of Tag Heuer

For its part, Loris-Melikoffl said it will support each LVMH brand in designing innovative display formats for their presence in 2021 and beyond. The goal is “to let each Maison express its creativity and offer an exceptional brand immersion”. It seems, in short, that in exchange for confirmation, the large groups have achieved greater weight in the choice of exhibition formats. Will this also be the case for jewelers?

Sotheby’s crowns the Serpenti necklace

//

Bulgari Serpenti necklace was the most requested piece at Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York ♦ ︎

The Magnificent Jewels spring auctions seem like a ping-pong game among the big auction houses. The one organized by Sotheby’s in New York, for example, has shown strong interest in antique and contemporary jewelry and pieces by Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Harry Winston, but also for colored and white diamonds. The sale, which also included fine jewelry, totaled $ 21.5 million.

Collana Serpenti di Bulgari in diamanti

The timeless appeal of rare designer jewelry has been reaffirmed in New York with the masterpieces of Bulgari, Tiffany & Co. and Cartier, created over a century, capturing the attention of international collectors. It was exciting to beat these objects of great interest and to see that the attention was translated into a so lively relaunch contest.
Gary Schuler, President of Sotheby’s Jewelry Division

Anello con diamante fancy intense blue e diamanti incolori

The eyes were on the Serpenti necklace made of diamonds by Bulgari, which reached 920,000 dollars (halfway through the estimate of 800,000-1,000,000 dollars). The jewel is composed of 260 carats of diamonds. Among the period jewels, the Pendeloque brooch with diamonds, corals, emeralds and beads was also highly appreciated, sold for $ 824,000, more than double the highest estimate (350,000). The shape of the brooch is supple: originally it was intended to cover the shoulder. But she was inspired by the Indian sarpech, a turban pin that hangs like a tassel between her eyebrows. Moreover, the graphic geometry of the piece as a whole is strongly architectural: the triangular projections of coral and diamonds evoke the winged roofs of the Far East pagodas, prefiguring at the same time the iconic Chrysler Building in New York.

The auction house also signals the outcome for a set that includes rare sautoir in enamel and diamonds and a pair of Tiffany & Co earrings, which were sold to an online bidder for $ 500,000 (maximum estimate of 300,000). Designed by the great American jeweler Paulding Farnham, this set was shown for the first time at the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis, which celebrated the centenary of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. At the time, Farnham was the main designer of Tiffany & Co and the jewelry director, responsible for famous designs including his acclaimed orchids series and the Belmont Stakes Trophy. The necklace and earrings presented in the auction are embellished with large rose-cut diamonds framed by antique European diamonds and single-cut diamonds. Paulding Farnham’s works rarely appear on the market but some important pieces have entered private collections and museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Cooper Hewitt, the Smithsonian Design Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Artist jewelery online with Sotheby’s

In the online jewelery auction of Sotheby’s also pieces signed by great sculptors ♦ ︎

Online jewelery auctions are a well-established habit. The big sales auctions are periodically organizing sales, and often with thematic proposals, ie centered around a specific strand. This is the case of Sotheby’s, which opens the 2019 jewelery sales season with the Jewels Online auction (8-15 March).

The auction offers also a large group of jewelry signed by well-known artists, sculptors who have reserved part of their creativity to the world of valuables.

Meccaniche, collana del 1993 di Sebastiano Balbo

There are jewels that range from the nineteenth century to contemporary works, as in the case of the Compression of César, the Cinetica di Facchini or the brooch sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro. This last sculptor signs three works of this selection, all in 18-karat gold and characterized by his style. They are a ring (estimate 1.800-2.800 euros), a pair of twins (1,000-2,000 euros) and a beautiful brooch, lit by small circular cut rubies (3,000-5,000 euros). The medal of Giorgio Facchini, created by the artist on the occasion of the seventeenth Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto in 1974, is one of only 140 copies produced for the event (2.500-4.500).

Inspired by the laws of mechanics is Sebastiano Balbo’s signature of 1993 Mechanics, decorated in the center with a brilliant cut diamond (5,000-7,000). The auction includes a group of five lots produced by Germano Alfonsi, enriched with animal and mythological engravings and a brooch made by Pietro Consagra, inspired by his sculptures (1,000-2,000). A geometric design characterizes the Genovese and Mariani productions of the seventies. A small work of art is the pendant Comprèssion made by Cèsar (6,000-8,000). This selection of artist’s jewelery is matched with the example of a necklace with a futuristic design in steel and glass signed by Buccellati (1.000-2.000) and the set by Pomellato.
But the auction also includes jewelry signed by traditional Maison, such as Bulgari, Cartier and Boucheron.

Bulgari, the new B.zero1 rings

The new rings from the B.zero1 collection by Bulgari, which turns 20. Images and prices ♦ ︎

A twenty-year-old looks for other twenties for a true friendship. It might look like an ad on a bulletin board for lonely hearts, but it’s another thing. The twenty-year-old is the B.zero1 ring by Bulgari. Born in 1999, celebrates the birthday and, at the same time, wants to please young people, the so-called Millennials, the generation born right at the turn of those years. The B.zero1 collection, inspired by the silhouette of the Colosseum, could become, in the intentions of the brand that is part of the French group Lvmh, the kind of jewel capable of attracting the attention of the new generation of customers.

For the birthday of the Bulgari collection he presented new variations of the ring, which can also be worn as a pendant.

B.zero1, explained the CEO of the Maison, Jean-Christophe Babin, combines two typical works of Bulgari jewels: the tubogas, which is found in the spring of the ring and which recalls the high jewelry, and the logo repeated twice. According to Bulgari’s calculations, the price of the rings is also interesting for the Millennials, starting at € 1,140 for the one-lap version in pink gold. But of course the price goes up for richer versions, such as white gold and diamonds (8.950 euros). In twenty years 2 million pieces of this collection have been sold. Now the challenge is on the next twenty. Giulia Netrese

The jewels of the Grammy Awards

The jewels of the Grammy Awards: Harry Winston and Tiffany shine with Lady Gaga and … ♦ ︎

Like all the red carpets, the awards and the grand galas, even the Grammy Awards were an opportunity to see big and small stars. A fortiori, given that the Grammys are considered a prize among the most important in the United States, awarded for results in the music industry. In practice, it is considered as the equivalent of the Oscar prizes in the world of cinema. For example, at the 2019 edition that took place in Los Angeles won the country singer Kacey Musgraves, the hip-hop of Kendrick Lamar, followed closely by the Canadian Drake, Kacey Musgraves, Childish Gambino …

But the Awards were also an opportunity to admire clothes and jewels. Here are some.

Camilla Cabello, vying for the Pop Vocal Album & Pop Solo Performance category, wore Harry Winston earrings with morganite, spinel and cluster diamonds for 30.59 carats, on gold and platinum. Also the presenter Nina Dobrev was covered by jewels of the American Maison: 10.26 carat Winston Cluster Diamond earrings on platinum, diamond brooch, diamond micropavé ring on platinum. And to parade on the red carpet a diamond ring of 8.13 carats always on platinum, a ring with princess cut diamond, and two rings with brilliant cut diamonds. Alicia Keys, on the other hand, opted for a necklace of mother-of-pearl signed Bulgari. And Katy Perry showed up with Djula’s mismatched earrings.
Earrings of the Tiffany City HardWear collection, instead, for Janelle Monae, American singer-songwriter, actress and model. But the wow effect was reserved for Lady Gaga, with a Tiffany necklace with diamonds over 100 carats. Much brighter than an award … Giulia Netrese

Rhapsody in blue for Christie’s

A blue diamond on Bulgari’s ring was the king of Christie’s auction in New York ♦ ︎

A ring signed Bulgari with a cushion cut diamond, Fancy Vivid Blue of 8.08 carats and, on its sides, two diamonds with a triangular cut, on platinum. A $ 18.3 million Christmas gift, probably a price not even Santa Claus could afford. Yet the ring was sold at the last auction of December organized by Christie’s in New York. Perhaps the Christmas atmosphere pushed the buyers: the total sales exceeded 69 million dollars. In particular, the attention of collectors and investors has focused on colored diamonds.

For example, a rare 15.56-carat heart-shaped pink diamond set in a pendant was sold for $ 9.5 million.

The fancy yellow 37.87 carat and 36.80 carat diamond earrings, also called Foxfire Diamonds, were also very popular: they are practically two giants mined in Canada by Rio Tinto, and they have been sold for 1.5 million. The color of another 8-carat oval cut diamond mounted on a ring is also yellow, made in 1925 by Gillot & Co, sold for 1.3 million. A ring with a colorless diamond of 28.7 carats, a square cut, has exceeded 2 million. Among the pieces sold and with greater appeal there is undoubtedly a necklace that can be transformed into a tiara. It is made of aquamarines and made by Cartier in 1925: it was sold for 828,500 dollars: this is also an excellent Christmas present. Federico Graglia

An 18 million dollar blue diamond and masterpieces of design among the 370 pieces at auction in New York with Christie’s ♦ ︎

A rare blue diamond, jewelry by Suzanne Belperron, René Boivin, Bulgari, Cartier, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels: the Christie’s auction is scheduled for December 5 in New York, accompanied by a simultaneous online auction from 28 November to 7 December.

The top piece should be a sensational Fancy Vivid Blue Diamond Ring of 8.08 carats from Bulgari (estimate 13-18 million dollars). According to Christie’s, this stone can be counted among the best blue diamonds ever on the market. But among the 370 lots for sale, there are also other stones of great appeal: a necklace with a heart-shaped pink diamond of 15.56 carats (estimate 9.5-12 million) and a ring with yellow diamond Art Déco Fancy Vivid of 8.09 carats, by Gillot & Co. (estimate: 900.000-1.200.000). Do not miss the classic colorless stones, such as the ring with diamond D classified 28.70 carats, VVS2 purity, type IIa, which comes from the heritage of financier Lee Vandervelde, who died last March: in this case the sale of jewelry will go to benefit of the Children’s Hospital and Children’s Institute in Los Angeles (estimate: 1,500,000-2,500,000).

Next to the super diamonds, for the design lovers Christie’s auction also offers a bracelet, Diamond Tube, by Suzanne Belperron (estimate 200-300.000 dollars).

The bracelet has recently been rediscovered as the important piece that launched the partnership of Belperron and Herz jewelry in 1948. Those who love vintage jewelry, there are also Art Déco pieces by Cartier, a bracelet of coral, enamel and diamonds by Donald Claflin for Tiffany & Co. (100,000-150,000) and Beribboned Heart, a heart-shaped enamel diamond and diamonds bracelet by René Boivin, which belonged to the Andy Warhol collection.

Among the contemporary pieces, in the foreground there are the earrings with diamonds and titanium, the Etcetera earrings (300.000-500.000) and the earrings with Colombian emeralds, pearls and diamonds of Bhagat ($ 150.000-250.000).
