In Cannes a Jewelery Festival

Festival of Cinema or Jewelery Festival? In Cannes, infinity catwalk with dream jewels ♦
New list of images from Cannes. Gold, precious stones and, of course, movie stars who braved the heavy burden of wearing dream jewelry (we’re joking). The lion’s part is made by Italian and French jewelers. Among the first, for example, there is Damiani, Maison that it was chosen by Eva Longoria. The actress wore the earrings and the masterpiece bracelet of the Notte di San Lorenzo collection in white gold and diamonds on two occasions: Philipp Plein’s party and L’Oreal event.

But among the Italian brands also there were Bulgari, with jewels worn by Emily Ratajwkowski, Emly Blunt and Naomi Watts, Buccellati with Amanda Steele, or Repossi, with a necklace worn by Emma Stone.
Among French jewellers, it was obviously Chopard (it is Swiss, but also French speaking), a long time partner of the Festival, to dominate the scene. Among Chopard’s many stars, for example, there were Charlize Theron, Poppy Delevigne, Araya Hargate or Juienne Moore can be mentioned, as well as Rihanna, who presented her collection in conjunction with the Maison directed by Caroline Scheufele. But they did not miss the Boucheron (Letitia Casta) or Messika (Sara Sampaio) jewels.

Liz Taylor’s jewels come back at Christie’s auction

Christie’s unveils new exceptional jewelry in the auction catalog of 17 May in Geneva
In Geneva, on 17 May, Christie’s will auction a 92 carat exceptional diamond-shaped heart, perfect. We’ve talked about here.
But that day will be for sale also many other interesting jewelry. In addition to those already anticipated in this article, there are others that the auction house has anticipated. Among them, there are some that belonged to Liz Taylor. In December 2011, Christie’s has already put on sale the collection of Elizabeth Taylor with these earrings and bracelet burmese rubies and diamonds signed Cartier. The jewels were part of the parure of jewels given to Elizabeth Taylor in August 1957 by her then husband, Mike Todd. Now are back on sale. The actress was famous for his passion for jewelry. But he was not the only woman with this enjoyable hobby. At the auction in Geneva, for example, you are selling the collection of an anonymous “elegant lady”, who apparently does not like the fame. The collection, however, is really top level. It includes a diamond necklace by Chopard, with a shaped D color diamond weight of approximately 56.03 carats pear (has a rating of up to US $ 7 million), in addition to exceptional jewelry created by Graff, De Grisogono and David Morris.
The space of the virtuous
For those who love the high jewelry, high design, there is a piece signed Jar (Joel Arthur Rosenthal) mysterious as creative maestro of jewelry. American by birth, Parisian by adoption, is considered a creative worship. Her earrings with diamonds are a delicious candy for collectors. An other talented designers is the Indian Viren Bhagat, who from Mumbai produces no more than 60 pieces a year. In the auction there will be a pair of her earrings with diamonds and rubies.
Cartier view from Éric Nussbaum
It has been recognized as one of the most eminent experts of Cartier and was hailed by his peers as “Eye”, an homage to the virtuoso level of its taste and refinement. And now the pieces of the vast collection owned by the expert, who died in 2003, are to be auctioned. It’s an interesting occasion: suffice it to say that the Nussbaum collection consists of over 1,600 jewelry and objects.
The charm of the sixties
The jewelry in Italy has experienced a moment of glory in the sixties. At the «dolce vita» of the jewel it is dedicated to a Christie’s auction section. From Buccellati to Villa or Bulgari, will be offered 40 jewels of that magical time. Federico Graglia

But, in particular, the rod will have a strong selection of pieces of designer or Italians Maison. A few names from those in the catalog: Bulgari, Buccellati, Facchini, Marina B, Masenza, Pomellato. Buccellati at top in Monte Carlo

A Buccellati ring on top in the first auction 2017 of jewelery organized by Artcurial in Monte Carlo.
It’s scheduled in Monaco the first auction 2017 by Artcurial dedicated to jewels. As always it is organized at the Yacht Club de Monte-Carlo, January 19 to 21 and is dedicated to jewelry and watches. Among the items for sale are not lacking the jewels of the big names, such as Boucheron, Bulgari, Cartier, Chopard, Chaumet, Buccellati and Van Cleef & Arpels. Among the most remarkable pieces there are also jewelry made of gold and diamonds signed Suzanne Belperron, or a set of different jewelry including a yellow gold ring with an emerald-cut diamond, 15,40 carats by Buccellati. It is the top rod piece, with a evaluation of 240 to 260,000 euros: belonged to an unspecified royal family, which obviously needs to accomplish. Soon after, always in the estimates, is in the catalog a bracelet-watch in platinum and white gold with diamonds by Cartier. Quite impressive, it has a rating of 120-150.00 euros. Federico Graglia

Chinese Christmas for Buccellati

Buccellati was sold to the Chinese group Gansu Gangtai by Clessidra, fund owned by Pesenti family.
Founded in 1919 in Milan by Mario Buccellati, one of the biggest brands of Italian jewelry is heading towards Shanghai. Buccellati become chinese: on the eve of Christmas 2016 came news that the jewelry will be bought by Maison Gansu Gangtai, group specializing in retail jewelry, also online, and which owns a mining company. But you do not think it’s a very rich giant: in the last quarter announced 377 million turnover, with just 5.9 million profit. In short, great, yes, but not seems very powerfull.
To sell to the Chinese is the private equity fund Clessidra, founded by former managers Fininvest Claudio Sposito, who died in January. The fund controls 67% of Buccellati, while the rest is in the hands of the founder’s family. Clessidra was acquired in the meantime by the Pesenti group, which in turn sold Italcementi to the Heidelberg Group Germans. And Carlo Pesenti is not interested in the world of luxury. First he tried to sell Buccellati in Switzerland, the Richemont group. Then, when the signing of the sale is gone, he has now found the Chinese Gansu Gangtai Holdings. In a nutshell, it seems that Italians do not know how to build a team with so many luxury brands, as he had tried to do the former Bulgari Ceo (brand which now is owned by French LVMH), Francesco Trapani, who had entered Clessidra with this goal. Besides Bulgari have become French Pomellato and Stroili, just to stay in the jewelry world. And now also Buccellati goes away.

Buccellati in Color

Opera Color: you add new pieces from the Renaissance style to collection by Buccellati.
Despite changes in ownership (now the company is part of the Swiss Richemont Group) Buccellati continues on his way. The new features include the Opera collection, launched in 2015 and now extended with new pieces and a line: Opera Color. The starting point is a kind of return to the roots, because Buccellati originated in Florence. Opera is, in fact, inspired by a style, but it would be better to say the culture of the Renaissance. The shape of the elements that make up the series of jewels are in fact those, reworked, which are found in architectural decoration, in the frames, in the paintings of the time and that are part of the company logo. Symmetry, gold, embroidery, light weight, but also wealth: History of art and jewelery are summed up immersed in the style that distinguishes the Maison. Opera Color introduces in the elements of the logo new precious shades thanks to the use of colored stones: lapis lazuli, mother of pearl, onyx, pink opal and Jasper, a variety of quartz. Buccellati on the catwalk with Valli

Buccellati, passed by a few days under the banner of the Swiss group Richemont, during Fashion Week in Paris has chosen the parade of Giambattista Valli to show some of his unique pieces of fine jewelry. La Maison from Milan is famous for its ability to create special jewelery, with a skillful and meticulous processing metal: gold embroidery and engravings in which grafted precious stones. Buccellati, among other things, in Paris has renewed the boutique on rue de la Paix, just a short walk from the Place Vendôme. The combination with GianBattista Valli, in any case, it seemed to fit in with the collections of the Italian designer, who has chose to be inspired by the Renaissance. Jewels with yellow and white gold, pendants with peridot and diamonds, big earrings, diamond honeycomb and emeralds were accompanied with lace and fabrics. In particular, the emphasis of jeweler was on earrings and large pendants with emeralds or Kunzite, framed by diamonds. Lavinia Andorno

Buccellati goes to Switzerland

Buccellati bye-bye: it is wrote by the newspaper Sole24Ore and nobody has denied it. An article by Carlo Festa, draws a farewell from the Italian fund of private equity Clessidra. Buccellati will end up on Swiss bank of Lake Geneva, in the big house of the Richemont group. After the disappearance, in January, of the founder of Hourglass, Claudio Sposito, seems to go down the idea of a center of Italian luxury, which had been toyed with the entry into private equity fund of Francesco Trapani. Who is a former number one of Bulgari, sold five years ago to the French LVMH group. Trapani became vice president of Clessidra with the idea of bringing together under one hat other luxury brands, a bit ‘as the French group Bernard Arnault or François Pinault’s Kering , which controls inter alia, the Italian brand Pomellato. Or also the Swiss Richemont group, which already owns brands such as Cartier, Piaget and Van Cleef & Arpels. The argument between the wife of Sposito, Manuela Del Castillo and Trapani, which is going from Clessidra, instead has revolutionized the strategy. And will be no a big group of Italian jewelry: Buccellati will end in the land of William Tell. Whether he wants it or not Andrea Buccellati, president and representative of the family founder, who maintains a minority stake in the company. Federico Graglia

Christie’s with an exceptional ruby

A ring with a large ruby, the Ruby Jubilee, will be the major piece of the auction of Magnificent Jewels programmed by Christie’s for 20 April. Why jubilee? Well, because Christie’s celebrates 250 years. And perhaps not coincidentally will be for sale really exceptional jewelry, 250 lots, including rare diamonds and colored stones, and pieces also signed by Buccellati, Cartier, David Webb, Graff, Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels. Of the jewels auction are part of the collection of Carroll Petrie, heiress disappeared two years ago leaving an estate valued at $ 100 million. According Chtisti’es, Jubilee Ruby is the most important Burmese ruby auctioned in the US for over 25 years. The jewel is signed by the exceptional designer Verdura. Another stone on which will focus attention is a diamond Fancy Intense purple-pink of 10.07 carats, D color perfect, circular cut to 40.43 carats.
According to Rahul Kadakia, international manager of Christie’s jewelry, “the quality of Burmese rubies with more than 15 carats are an absolute rarity in the world of colored gems and the record price of 18.3 million for a 15.04 carat stone to ‘ Christie’s auction in Hong Kong in December 2015 exemplifies the voracious appetite of collectionists for these gems”. The jewelry of auction will be on display the public from April 15 to April 19 in the Rockefeller Center in New York galleries. Federico Graglia

Hawaii in three colors for Buccellati

It’s difficult to say if in Hawaii the people wears earrings with complicated combinations of circles. Buccellati, in any case, since the Thirties proposes a collection that is based precisely on round twisted gold. The collection Hawaii, to which was added Honolulu, has become a classic of the Italian brand, but now has been repeated with variations in white and pink gold. Each piece, in short, can be selected in one of three shades. The circles are made with gold twined wire. This process has two effects: gives light reflections and a pleasant ringing sound when the jewelry is on the move. In the case of the necklace, for example, the bead cores are 0.6 mm thick and welded one by one by hand.

Buccellati in Venaria

At Venaria Palace, near Turin, comes the great exhibition dedicated to Gianmaria Buccellati. The exhibition follows that of Florence (https://gioiellis.com/buccellati-100-anni-di-gioielli) and is a tribute to the art of the jeweler Florentine goldsmith. The exhibition (“The art of beauty. The jewels of Gianmaria Buccellati,” March 21 to August 30), organized by Gianmaria Buccellati Foundation and the Foundation for the Study of Art Goldsmith, with the coordination of the Swiss Luxury Culture Management, offers a selection of the works of jewelry. Gianmaria Buccellati, born in 1924, continued the experience of the father Mario, who in 1919 opened his first boutique of fine jewelry in Milan, where he met Gabriele d’Annunzio, who described him as the “prince of the goldsmiths”. The exhibition is organized into three sections. According Chiara Tinonin, curator of the exhibition, “The jewelry, the jewelry creations and silver that Gianmaria Buccellati started drawing very young and has produced throughout life are represented in the exhibition by 108 valuable pieces, each one unique, and willing in a chronological journey that explores the origin creative drawing his autobiographical stories. But there are not just objects. The attention to the cultural and artistic expressions of the past, the deep knowledge of the goldsmith and its secrets, and his aesthetic sense, enhanced by the shots of the photographer Giò Martorana. ” For the curator, to Buccellati is a tradition that follows the great schools of the Renaissance, classical and eighteenth centuries. But now, with a jewelry that often follows the trend of the moment and the rhythms of industrial production, is also a cultural heritage that is likely to get lost.

L’esposizione è a Palazzo Pitti.

Monica Battistoni
