Jade Jagger, the family jewels

/

x

The name is challenging: Jade Jagger, jewelry designer, was born October 21, 1971 in Paris thanks to Mick and Bianca Jagger. In short, if the daughter of Paul McCartney (Beatles) designs clothes, the daughter of Mick Jagger (Rolling Stones) is adept with the art of jewelry. On the other hand, with the art he has grown. In addition to music of his father, the life of Jade coincided with the happy days of the pop art scene in New York, as she explains in his autobiographical notes. A photo shows her when she was baby, along with Mick, Andy Warhol and other frequenters of The Factory, headquarters by the father of Pop Art.

“I love Mick and Bianca, but Jade was more my speed. I taught her how to color and she showed me how to play Monopoly. Was four years old and I was forty-four, “said Warhol. No wonder, then, that Jade has started his career as a painter, after studying in Florence. He has exhibited widely. But then he created Jade, jewelry brand. At first his creations were only available in stores Paul Smith. But then it was called by other companies, as Garrard. But also she has worked to star of design as Tom Bartlett, John Hitchcox, Philippe Starck and Yoo. In short, in his career, he has drawn a lot of things, from the home fornitures until a icebreaker for cocktails. But in the end, one woman named Jade can only devote himself to jewelry. Bulgari Wild Pop

The new Bulgari high jewelery collection is called Wild Pop and is inspired by the eighties ♦ ︎

Revival is not new in fashion. Indeed, all the epochs, sooner or later, rediscover how beautiful it was 20 or 30 years ago, how good it was and what a wonderful style it was in vogue. Know that it will also happen the nex thirty years, when your nephews will find adorable what today seems to be tacky to you. This is how the world goes.
After the boom of the art deco, for example, today likes the day before yesterday, ie the seventies and eighties. Of course, the reasons to remember or imagine the liveliness of those years is not lacking: the TV series like Dinasty and Miami Vice, the stars of the era, such as Madonna and David Bowie, but also Andy Warhol. That Bulgari, however, designed a necklace of high jewelry with the shape of the leaves of marijuana it was difficult to imagine. On the other hand, the new high jewelery collection will scandalize those who consider cannabis leaves a sin and a danger. Perhaps it is precisely what the Italian brand wants, which is part of the LVMH group. Although, probably, the intention of Bulgari is not to encourage those who buy their jewelry to smoke, perhaps to forget the price.
In any case, the new Bulgari high jewelery collection is called Wild Pop and comes from an idea of the creative director of the Roman Maison, Lucia Silvestri, after visiting the Andy Warhol Foundation for the visual arts in NY. There, among the papers of the artist symbol of Pop Art, he discovered the catalogs of Bulgari of the eighties. A wedding invitation, which also explains the transgressive side of the collection, which is not by chance called Wild Pop.

Lucia Silvestri
Lucia Silvestri

“It’s not just the themes of the collection that are wild, like the delicate parure of marijuana entitled Happy Leaves in white gold with 14.63 carats of diamonds and 5.60 carats of emeralds, inspired by the film Desperately Seeking Susan, where Madonna shares a joint with a friend “, explained Lucia Silvestri. “Its kaleidoscopic colors and maxi dimensions are also wild. Wild Pop is a tribute to an era marked by the desire to have everything and at the same time celebrates the bond between Bulgari and Warhol “.
While the list of sources of inspiration, from Ronald Reagan to Jane Fonda, from disco music to the return of the tubogas, can continue for a long time, the description of the jewels is more interesting. The Queen of Pop necklace reinterprets in platinum a typical form of the Eighties, with a central 24.80 carat sapphire surrounded by baguettes, tourmalines and sapphires. Supreme Diamond Light evokes the Manhattan skyline by combining onyx and diamonds. The Magnificent Green Ruffles necklace with a 34.12 carat emerald is inspired by Alexis Carrington, iconic character from the Dinasty TV series. Flamingos is a necklace in rose gold, onyx and diamonds. Palms is in yellow gold, agate, carnelian and diamonds that draw tropical palms tribute to the Miami Vice TV series. The Synthesizer jewels are inspired by Madonna and David Bowie. Perhaps today’s jewels are better than the style of those years. Giulia Netrese

The eyes of Cora Sheibani

/

The new collection of Cora Sheibani is called Eyes and it is a pleasure to watch it ♦ ︎
When she was four, Cora Sheibani lets you know that she was painting in a garage with Jean-Michel Basquiat. On his website he also reports a flattering judgment of the Italian designer Ettore Sottsass: «When Cora Sheibani decided to design jewelry, she did not opt for pounds of gold, volumes, complications, golden baroque with the addition of more or less precious or poor stones diamond surfaces to pursue the unattainable mythology of luxury “. Art and design: the bread that Cora has eaten since birth. She is the daughter of the Zurich art dealer Bruno Bischofberger and his wife Christina (known to all as Yoyo). The house, in addition to Basquiat, was frequented by artists of all kinds, starting with Andy Warhol. When she turned eight, just to understand, she chose for her bedroom a colorful chair of the Memphis Group, the postmodern design collective of Milan founded in 1981 by Sottsass, who was a friend of the family.
All this creative air that she breathed during her growth, Cora transferred it to her work as a jewelry designer. After studying art history in Florence and New York, she moved to London in 2001 and moved to London where married Kaveh Sheibani, a financier. She meet customers by appointment only. His latest collection is called Eyes and summarizes well the spirit of his extreme design, no frills but at the same time rich. The jewels have a rather large size, they are in gold with central stones like tanzanite, garnet, spessartite, pink rubellite, brown zircons. The jewels, in fact, resemble large eyes, but also primitive masks. Prices: from 5,000 to 40,000 pounds for bespoke ones. Giulia Netrese

Sunjewels, diamonds with scream

The Scream by Edvard Munch and the famous Andy Warhol Campbell soup reproduced with thousands of diamond by Sunjewels.
In the world jewelry occasionally it happens to find the special pieces. Sometimes these extraordinary jewels are genuine masterpieces, small works of art from the imagination and skill of designers and goldsmiths. A case apart, however, is that shown by the Indian group Sunjewels at Baselworld 2017. It is the reproduction of two famous paintings: The Scream by the Norwegian Edvard Munch, made between 1893 and 1910, and the Campbell Soup by Andy Warhol’s 1962 and icon of pop art. To testify the technical skill in the processing of gold and gems, Sunjewels has recreated the two pictures with gold and small diamonds. To play the Munch painting have been used about 14,000 hand-set stones, with a work of 10-12 weeks from a 3D CAD file. The Warhol painting, instead, uses 5100 diamonds of different colors.
Sunjewels is a company based in Mumbai, India, who created (at avril 2017) 2,715,475 jewels. The company works primarily for third parties, through the work of 1,047 employees.

Suzanne Syz on paper

A book photographs the impetuous creativity of the Swiss designer Suzanne Syz, jewelry inspired by the art pop to fairy tales.
A legend that has gone through and continues to transversely cross the jewelry and art. Born in Zurich, grew up in Paris, she moved to New York where he met Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel, Francesco Clemente, and Jeff Koons. The jewelry designer Suzanne Syz could only synthesize in her work, or should we to say in her masterpieces, the two worlds and ways of looking at creativity. Her jewelry, in fact, they live both souls, as pop art together jewelery. In short she won an international fame that accompanies it since then. Back in Switzerland, in Geneva, she continues to scramble the agreements with its innovative ideas. Now a book brings together a series of images in her work and tells his story (Suzanne Syz: Art Jewels, Assouline, $ 150). As you can imagine, creativity Suzanne Syz can not be reduced to a kind of mirror of the work of painters and sculptors. She follows her vein and is inspired by nature, by fairy tales, to the things that she see in his travels. The unique pieces that are sought by the true fans (and those who can afford it) are classified as Pop, Naturally and Contemporary. The book is organized by the alphabetical order and reveals some little-known aspects of the technique used by the designer through a long interview with the art critic Nicolas Trembley. Must to browse. Federico Graglia
