Antonini, luxury is green

/

Earrings with 12 emeralds by Antonini and other Extraordinaire jewels made with the green gem ♦ ︎

One thing is certain: green is an extraordinary color. It is the hue of the leaves, of the woods, of the forests. But also some sea beds, many foods and, last but not least, emeralds. Perhaps this is why Antonini has dedicated some pieces of his Extraordinaire line to this precious stone.
This is the haute couture production of the Milanese Maison. These are unique pieces that every year Sergio Antonini combines with other collections. Sophisticated design and particularly fascinating stones are the ingredients of these jewels.

For example, a pair of earrings with 12 round-cut emeralds, ending with a rhodium-plated white gold pendant covered with diamonds, is the latest Extraordinaire creation.

And that the emerald is one of the stones that most stimulate the designer of the Milanese house is witnessed by the fact that other haute couture jewels use the green gem. Like the ring that has a cushion-cut emerald in the center, surrounded in turn by a surface covered by other small emeralds, a mosaic that seems to have come directly from the forests of the Amazon. Dolce, Gabbana and flowers

//

The new Dolce & Gabbana jewels are consistent with the stylistic line of the designer pair ♦ ︎

Flowers, colors, joy. But also Italian tradition, recovery of the values of the past, visibility. And to these definitions we could add others: a lot of things have been written on the Dolce & Gabbana fashion shows. Few, however, they stopped to look closely at the jewels, like the maxi earrings that reflect the floral pattern that is found on the clothes of the latest collections.

They are brass jewels, with crystal and resin details, or with electroplating to add a gilding to the metal and Swarovski crystals.

As for clothes, even for these accessories, the couple of designers wants to communicate the Sicilian sensuality, their region of origin, which has become a constant feature of their style. The jewels are not made of precious materials, but have their originality. Indicative prices: from about 350 to 925 euros of the necklace with crystals. Lavinia Andorno

The colorful Sutra butterflies

/

Butterflies with diamonds and colored stones by Sutra, symbol, memory, nature ♦ ︎

According to historians, the first butterflies depicted by man date back to the frescoes of 3,500 years ago in ancient Egypt. In short, butterflies have become a subject for art since the human race began its journey. A sign that colorful-winged insects have never lost their charm. So much so that, besides becoming subjects for paintings and sculptures, they were often transformed into jewels. Necklaces, earrings, pendants and rings in the shape of a butterfly, sooner or later, have attracted the attention of all the great Maison of jewelry.

Sutra proposes this classic theme with the Butterfly collection.

Sutra, Butterfly collection
Sutra, Butterfly collection

As is the style of the jewelery brand founded by Arpita and Divyanshu Navlakha, the Sutra butterfly rivals the most colorful butterflies. Butterflies are also a memory of Arpita’s youth in Mumbai. Diamonds are set together with emeralds, sapphires, aquamarines or tourmalines in a light design like the wings of real butterflies. In some cases, as in earrings, butterflies are divided into two: each wing on one ear. Or both wings are placed on a frame of white or pink gold.

New Life for Mattioli

//

Life, the new collection of Mattioli inspired by the myth of the tree of life presented at VicenzaOro ♦ ︎

Proposing new products is a matter of life for a jewelery brand. And even for a woman, wearing a jewel that fits her personality is a matter of life. But in the new Life collection by Mattioli, the subject is another. The collection, in fact, is inspired by the ancient symbolism of the tree of life. That it is not a vegetable, but a symbol: the tree of life is a recurrent element in various religions, mythologies and philosophies. Sometimes it is associated with the more generic term of a sacred tree.

In this case the tree of life is particularly tenacious: the pink gold is bound with a resistant and light material, titanium.

This metal, in fact, has been used by Mattioli in the Puzzle, Siriana and Yin Yang collections. In this case, however, gray titanium and pink gold are combined with white diamonds, in a tangle of roots and branches: the tree of life that becomes a precious, large jewel.

Annamaria Cammilli in the seventies

The Seventies interpreted by Annamaria Cammilli with the Serie Uno collection ♦

Operation nostalgia, but also affordability. Annamaria Cammilli kept these two concepts in mind when designing Serie Uno, the new collection of the Maison of Florence, which was presented at VicenzaOro January. The allusion to the seventies is represented by the soft lines, but vaguely squared. A design that is reminiscent of the avant-garde of the second half of the twentieth century and which has come back into fashion.

The collection has many aspects that recall the already known Dune collection, the best seller of the fashion house.

In fact, the style remains that of the Tuscan brand. The name of the collection, Serie Uno, is linked to the choice of using only one small diamond for each piece of jewelry. And this is the aspect that allows you to offer a price more accessible than the jewels of other collections. In line with the design also the choice of gold colors (Annamaria Cammilli proposes as many as eight different). In this case the gold colors of this line are warm yellow called Sunrise and orange gold Apricot.

Synthetic diamonds for Meghan Markle

//

Meghan Markle wears a pair of earrings with synthetic diamonds. And in Britain the debate starts ♦ ︎

The Duchess of Sussex continues to be an influencer in the field of jewelry. What Meghan Markle wears has immediatly a reflection on sales, not least because Prince Harry’s bride often chooses jewelry for everyone.

Now, however, another type of choice may also weigh: that relating to synthetic diamonds.

Meghan Markle, in fact, during her first visit as Royal Patron for SmartWorks (a charity that helps unemployed and vulnerable women), what has been described as her “most daring to date” jewel, that is a pair of earrings with three drops. The jewelry brand is Kimai, specialized in ethical jewelry: the earrings were made of 18 carat gold and the diamonds are obtained in the laboratory and cost only 315 pounds. A fact that surprised many: are synthetic diamonds quite “noble”? It seems so. And perhaps this time the choice of Meghan Markle will push many women to opt for this type of stone. The choice has already opened a debate in the British press and on the options represented by ethical jewels. On the other hand, the largest natural diamond company, De Beers, announced long ago the opening of a laboratory for the production of synthetic diamonds.
From her engagement with Prince Harry the Duchess of Sussex has always been wearing the latest jewelry trends, from brands like Birks, Missoma and Shaun Leane. And all have seen an increase in sales thanks to the young new member of the royal family.

For Valentine’s Day, Avakian offers, for example, a sparkling pair of earrings with emeralds and rubies.

The earrings are made with two exquisite heart-shaped Colombian emeralds (26.05 carats), cut and set in 18 carat white gold, surrounded by a crown of white diamonds (3.43 carats), with the touch of two rubies (of 1.22 carats). Always the Swiss Maison proposes rings, earrings and pendants, with a heart in 18kt white or rose gold, embellished with diamonds, against the background of black onyx, green jade, turquoise blue, red coral or white agate. There is also a kind of ring, from the First Love collection, which seems to have been specially designed for Valentine’s Day. Another proposal concerns Riviera Earrings, drop-shaped pendants on 18 carat white gold, with white gold and rubies. Irresistible.

A Cosmos at sea

Polyps and jellyfish are the protagonists of the Cosmos collection by Peseli ♦ ︎

The collection is called Cosmos, a word of Greek origin which means order. But Marianna Marolla, founder of the Peseli brand, was born on the Greek island of Corfu. And so her new collection is not related to the universe, but to the aquatic world. The sea, on the other hand, surrounds Corfu and is populated by aquatic animals.

Jellyfish and octopus are, in fact, the subjects of the Cosmos collection.

When the jewels are worn, the tentacles studded with brilliants reproduce the movement of the waves, capture the light and its reflections and follow the movement of the body. The jewels are made of precious materials such as sapphires, corals and diamonds.
Marianna Marolla, among other things, will present the Cosmos collection at Artistar Jewels 2019, an annual project of Contemporary Jewelry that brings together artists. The event is scheduled during Milan Fashion Week and will be hosted at Palazzo Bovara, a historic location in the center of the metropolis. All the creations are also published in a volume distributed all over the world and sent to more than 5,000 international business contacts.

The unstoppable success of Monica Vinader, with the jewels that also like Kate Middleton ♦ ︎

Quality jewelry, but without exaggeration. The fine jewelery with collections that cost from a few hundred euros up to about 2000 or 3000 euros are the kingdom of british Monica Vinader. Kingdom is the right word when one considers that they are among the favorite jewels of Kate Middleton, who wears them when she is not engaged in regal ceremonies. In short, jewels for every day, but with a class search.
It is no coincidence, therefore, if Monica Vinader sells jewelry for about 50 million euros a year, with an annual growth of 21%.

The brand employs 220 people all over the world, with 48 employees in London and 54 in Norfolk. A success that convinced her to plan an expansion plan after the 15 stores opened in the United Kingdom, America and Asia-Pacific. In short, from Great Britain to conquer the rest of the world.

And to say that she and her sister Gabriela started in a small workshop in Norfolk, in 2007. Objective: to bridge the space between jewelry and fashion. Instead of jewelry with diamonds in gold and pavé of 14 or 10 carats, Monica Vinader uses 18 carat gold-plated sterling silver and semi-precious stones. Although now, with her success, it has also introduced some more expensive and valuable pieces. In general, however, its jewels are affordable luxury, but not trinkets. Jewels to wear with jeans, but also with the elegant dress to go to the cinema or to go to the office. Moreover, one of the keys to success is the possibility of stacking rings and bracelets. And, thanks to an app, those who buy a jewel can personalize it with an engraving. Giulia Netrese

Bliss’s Pensiero

The Pensiero (thought) set by Bliss, in the classic combination of white gold and diamonds. Images and prices ♦ ︎

When you give something inexpensive, before the person who is destined to open the package, you can say: “look it’s just a thought”. How to say: it is the intention that matters, not the price of the object you are about to receive. Sometimes, however, the thought is just the gift. But this is not something immaterial, a fantasy, but a jewel. Actually, there are three.

It is the case, in fact, of the Pensiero (the word means thought) di Bliss collection.

The collection is proposed as a Christmas gift and, in this case, the thought is exactly the thought with a capital letter. Furthermore, it is not a trivial matter. The Pensiero consists of a set consisting of a solitaire, a pair of earrings and a necklace. The jewels are in 18-carat white gold, with small brilliant-cut diamonds to give light and reflections. Prices are in line with the materials used: under € 600 the ring, over 700 for earrings. Giulia Netrese

The ten most precious and expensive Tiffany earrings. For those who do not mind at the expense of gifts ♦ ︎

The Maison of New York, in fact, in the category of simple jewelry, that is not unique pieces, but jewels reproduced in different examples, still has pieces of great charm. And of considerable cost, let’s say it right away. We have selected the ten most precious and naturally expensive pieces. Prices refer to December 2018, in euros. For three of these earrings the price is however on demand, also because the exceptional diamonds with which they are made make them look more like high-end jewelry than “normal” earrings, even if expensive.

Among all stands out a pair of earrings with diamonds weighing over five carats each.

Lebole with Kokoro hearts

Hearts that beat to the rhythm of ancient Japan: the Kokoro collection by Lebole Gioielli ♦ ︎

Earrings, of course, but also necklace with pendant: Lebole Gioielli moves the horizon forward. But without losing the compass, which always marks the East. In particular, the Rising Sun: the new collection of Lebole is called, in fact, Kokoro. The word in Japanese can mean mind, spirit, feeling, emotion or thought. But, explains Barbara Lebole, the Irish writer Lafcadio Hearn also as Koizumi Yakumo (was Japanese naturalized), at the end of the nineteenth century he translated this word with the expression “the heart of things”.

For this reason, next to this literary aspect, the collection uses a classic heart shape, covered with fabrics of ancient Japanese kimonos (which is the characteristic of Lebole).

Orecchini della collezione Kokoro

Another recurrent aspect is the idea of proposing asymmetrical earrings. In this case the asymmetric is created by the measures of the hearts. In addition to the ancient silk, the jewels are in silver galvanized gold and natural stones. The earrings have different shapes: simple hearts of silk and colored stones, or combined with silver chains, small stones and colored tassels.
The Kokoro Must line includes silk hearts, on wood, embedded in a silver frame and cubic zirconia. The colors of the stones are five (green, red, blue, white and black) to which the colors of ancient Japanese fabrics are combined. They are developed in two sizes and the asymmetrical pair is formed by a heart, surmounted by a crown, on one side and only the chaplet on the other. Prices: from 90 to 150 euros.

The Botanicals collection by Silvia Furmanovich: a refined inlay technique enriched with gold and gems ♦ ︎

Silvia Furmanovich, a Brazilian designer of Italian descent (her father was a goldsmith), is a special case. It is, in fact, one of the rare creators of jewels that can boast a style completely different from the others. And not less precious. His jewels are different both as conception, form and design, and because they use refined techniques, such as cabinet making, which were more common in Europe in past centuries.

The new collection by Silvia Furmanovich is called Botanicals.

Orecchini con ametiste e tormaline
Orecchini con ametiste e tormaline

Easy to guess what is inspired by, the lush, colorful, surprising plants that grow in the boundless South American country: calla lilies, orchids, heliconias, begonia leaves, banana flowers, water lilies, chrysanthemums, and even a fungus.

To create earrings that look like leaves just detached from the plant, the designer has chosen a processing with wood inlay techniques applied to three-dimensional sculptural surfaces.

In other words, it seems easy, but in reality it is a courageous and refined choice. The inlay technique is made by craftsmen of the Brazilian Amazon rain forest using all types of indigenous woods. But the jewels are not just wood: gold and, above all, stones such as tourmalines, amethysts, citrines, prasiolites, quartz, opals, emeralds and topazes are like colored drops of dew on the surface of the flora. Prices: on average from 5000 to 15000 dollars. Giulia Netrese

The secret inscription

Yeah, but what does Tanabata refer to? It is the name of the seventh night of the seventh month, ie July, and celebrates the meeting of two deities, Orihime and Hikoboshi, represented by Two Stars Innamorate Vega and Altair. In fact, each pair of earrings is attached to a strip of colored paper called Tanazaku, which symbolizes a silk thread intertwined by Orihime. Above the strip will be written a phrase to be discovered, as they use to do the Japanese on the day of Tanabata. To celebrate the love of the two stars, in fact, they hang from the bamboo trees of the tanazaku in which they write poems, prayers and desires turned to the stars.

Japanese legend

If you are curious to know the Japanese legend, here it is: in ancient times on the shores of the Celeste River (the Milky Way), lived the ’emperor of the sky, Tentei, whose daughter Orihime (Vega) spent his days weaving. When she reached adulthood, her father chose a husband: Hikoboshi (Altair), who was also a hard worker, whose job was to feed oxen through the shores of the Celestial River. For the two young people it was love at first sight but taken from love and passion, they also forgot about their duties. As a result, Orihime no longer wove his canvas, leaving the gods without clothes, and Hikoboshi’s oxen roamed uncontrollably across the sky. This unleashed the anger of Tentei and the two lovers were separated on the two sides of the Celestial River and forced to return to their duties. The princess was so desperate that Tentei, moved, allowed the two to meet, only once a year, the seventh day of the seventh month. Since then, a flock of magpies come every year, and they create a bridge with their wings, so that Orihime can cross the Celestial River and re-embrace his beloved Hikoboshi.

By Anastazio a mythical collection

The ancient myth of Meander in the jewelery collection of the Greek designer Anastazio ♦ ︎

Greece, in addition to being a popular tourist destination, is the country where western culture was born. There is no need to disturb the philosophy of Plato & c., The architecture of Fidia, the literature of Homer, the theater of Aeschylus, the mythology of Olympus (the list could go on) to know that this small country overlooking on the Mediterranean sea it is a sort of navel in the history of humanity. A necessary premise to explain how, even today, ancient Greece arouses interest and strong emotions. And that’s why even modern designers do not escape the desire to look for their roots.
Anastazio Kotsopoulos, founder and creative director of the Athens jewelery fair of the same name, Anastazio, has dedicated his new collection to the myth of Meandro, but with a modern design. If you don’t remember Greek mythology, you must know that Meander, son of Oceano and Thetis, on the occasion of the conflict with the city of Possene, vowed to the goddess Cybele to sacrifice the first person he would saw when he returned home if, in exchange, he had granted him the victory. But Meandro was unlucky (or punished for his request). In fact, he met his mother, sister and son Archelao. He killed them all three, as promised to Cybele, even if he then repented of his gesture and tormented by remorse he killed himself by throwing himself into the Anabenone river.
Looking back on the myth, Anastazio has now created a small collection of eight pieces. Seven pieces are in silver and 18-carat gold, while one piece is totally in gold. The jewels are enriched with orange and pink sapphires, amethyst and rutilated quartz. Please, if you wear them you do not make wrong requests to the gods.

Surround Fernando Jorge

The Surround collection of the Brazilian designer, based in London, Fernando Jorge ♦ ︎

At the Couture Awards 2018 Fernando Jorge replicated last year’s award in the Diamonds Above 20K dollars category. Winning twice in a row is not a very common fact. But it must be admitted that the jury that voted for a pair of earrings in the new Surround collection by the Brazilian designer’s, was not wrong. In just a few years, since 2012, the young jewelry designer graduated from Central Saint Martins has become an international star. His Brazilian imagination has merged with British precision to churn out one collection after another, always with a special style, his own.
A goal that many designers reach after decades of application (and many never reach). And that’s why Fernando Jorge has won two such coveted awards. The Surround collection, in addition to an explosion of gold and diamonds, also uses another unusual element: the tagua nut, a Brazilian plant with a pure and very hard wood. Jade is also a little out of the ordinary, used for a pair of earrings along with tourmaline and diamonds. Who knows if the next year in Las Vegas will be able to amaze again. Giulia Netrese

Spicy Yvone Christa

Chilies in glassy material from the new collection of Yvone Christa ♦ ︎

An aquatic chili. Does this seem like a contradiction? Yet the Chili Peppers collection by Yvone Christa, a New York brand created by the two Swedish designers, is made using aqua lemuria (in italian language acqua means water). We bet that many do not know what aqua lemuria is. It is a very pale green-blue glassy material, similar to obsidian. Aqua lemuria is produced with volcanic ash in the mountainous region of Sumatra, Indonesia and is associated, for those who want to believe, with benefits for the body and mind. It is good to know, however, that it is not a stone, but a kind of glass.
In the case of the Chili Peppers collection, the elements of aqua lemuria are cut with the shape of the spicy vegetable to become earrings or pendants mounted on silver filigree or leather laces. Price: between 200 and 250 euros. Lavinia Andorno
