Jacob & co, greatness in pink

A pair of exceptional earrings with morganite for over 100 carats of Jacob & co ♦ ︎
Morganite is a stone that symbolizes “divine love”. Moreover, it is a stone that according to the romantic hearts promote the affections and the spasms of the heart. With a less romantically view, however, the stone is a variety of beryl, and has a delicate pink color, more or less intense. The name morganite, in any case, does not refer to the fairy Morgana, but was conferred by the American mineralogist George Frederick Kunz in honor of the American banker active at the turn of the twentieth century John Pierpont Morgan, stone collector (and founder of one of the largest banks still in business, JP Morgan).
And here is an exceptional use of this refined stone: earrings with over 100 carats of morganite. They were presented at Baselworld by Jacob & Co, Maison of New York who often presents particularly precious pieces of jewelry. The earrings feature a total of four morganite stones. The largest weighs 93.88 carats, while the slightly smaller weighs 6.35 carats. Not only that: 98 pear-shaped diamonds, weighing a total of 8.61 carats, adorn the earrings, which are further accented with over 360 white pavé diamonds. The round earrings of the The Circle collection by Lebole Gioielli ♦︎
The round shape is the perfect geometry, which has no beginning and no end. And it is also the most used form in jewelry, starting from the ring. But not only. Even the earrings have one of the most recurrent forms in the ring. As in the case of the The Circle collection by Lebole Gioielli. These are flat capsules printed on tinplate, the earrings are mounted in gold-plated brass and natural stones. Asymmetry, as in the tradition of the Tuscan brand, in this case is provided by the different images imprinted in the capsule. A curiosity: the flat capsule used is actually the metal disk that is located in the upper part of the cage that holds the caps of bottles of sparkling wine or champagne before being closed. A sentence is, after all, a mosaic of words. And Sutra is a Sanskrit word, the ancient language of India, which means “collection of sacred verses”, then a treasure translated into a composition of words. A concept as from the Mosaic collection by Sutra: the Indian Maison, based in Mumbai and Austin, Texas, offers jewelry that always has stones of great charm at its center. In the Mosaic collection, for example, can be opals the individual elements that make up a jewel. The collection plays on two shades: blue and red. As in the bracelet with 75 karats of opals, 7 karats of sapphires and 6 carats of diamonds mounted on 18-carat white gold. But not only: the earrings, for example, have a mosaic made of turquoise, emeralds and diamonds, always on white gold, as well as a bracelet. Baselworld is not just an opportunity for the big Maison to present new collections. Chopard, for example, has chosen the stage of the watch and jewelery fair to announce a green turning point. Or better yet again, to underline the philosophy that was embraced five years ago by the Swiss brand of fine jewelery and watchmaking and which is now further strengthened.
Protection of the environment, social responsibility and sustainability are, in fact, the themes that Chopard’s co-president, Caroline Scheufele, has decided to deal with the media. Gold and stones increasingly traceable, extracted so as not to cause harm to people and limit the impact on the environment: the project The Journey to sustainable Luxury by Chopard brings the date of 2013. At the Cannes Film Festival Chopard has already presented the first Green Carpet Collection to respect these intentions to the letter. And in 2014 presented the world’s first watch made with fairmined gold.
Now Chopard wants to take even bigger steps towards sustainability.
An example is the Happy Hearts collection, one of the Maison’s blockbusters. To be or not to be? The dilemma of Hamlet, played by Daniela Villegas, becomes: to bee or not to bee? The right answer is the second: the bee has successfully turned into a capsule collection, Sisterhood. The bees are buzzing and, after all, they are part of that miniature universe, that of insects, which is so exciting for the Mexican designer based in Los Angeles. Queen Bee includes bees wearing crowns to represent the theme of power, but also a sisterhood, because the bees are very supportive of each other. Not only that: the bees have, beyond their decorative effect, a primacy in productivity, in wisdom, in spirituality, humility, modesty, and so on.
The jewels of Daniela Villegas dedicated to the bees are in 18-carat yellow gold, in some cases with a drop of multicolored jasper, reminiscent of the classic yellow and black stripes that characterize the body of insects. Lili Claspe x Ritani is a capsule collection of jewels. It also marks the debut of an American brand, Ritani, that specializes in diamond jewelery for engagement and marriage. It is a collection of fine jewelry, with prices ranging between 600 and 1300 dollars, in yellow gold and small diamonds. It has its own originality, thanks to the contribution of Stephanie Tchamanian, designer and founder of Lili Claspe, who is instead a fashion bijoux brand. In short, the idea is to offer valuable jewelry, but that meet the taste of a young audience. An operation that many other companies that produce traditional jewelry has tried or thinks to try.
The collection born from the marriage between Ritani and Lili Claspe is composed of 23 models in 14k yellow gold, with colorless diamonds. The fringes on some models, like the earrings, are just an element that can add a vaguely hippy freshness, while the rings or pendants with a long gold bar with diamonds, rather showy, underline the design element, in particular with the use of baguette-cut diamonds. Spring returns and Lebole Gioielli returns to Japanese inspiration. The kimono silks, but also the taste for a meaningful simplicity, are the leitmotif of the Tuscan bijoux brand, especially for the earrings. And among the new proposals for spring 2018 here is the Anemone collection, designed and created for Lebole Gioielli by the Tuscan artist Paolo Perugini, a lover of Japanese art and long time collaborator of the small Maison. The Anemone earrings collection consists of an asymmetrical pair, in two sizes. The earrings use two different geometric figures as a base, on which the ideogram representing the word Anemone in the rectangle and Fiore in the triangle is etched. Not only: as in many collections of Lebole, the jewels are covered with ancient Japanese silks, spread over a very thin leather. In addition, a thin brass triangle attached to the free top is inserted into the earring. The triangle then moves freely along with the earring. The metal is brass galvanized gold, while the colored natural stones are combined with the fabrics used. Price: 120 euros.

On closer inspection there is no easier collection than this: a golden thread rounded in a circle rectified by a horizontal line, accompanied by details such as the junction made with diamonds. Stop. Under the Vision label, Annamaria Cammilli brings together a series of jewels with an abstract design, “curves and volumes confined by delicate edges of brilliants, enhanced by a totally opaque finish.Abstract forms of a liquid vision, for a contemporary jewel in the middle of the scenes. Unquestionable originality for a sophisticated elegance”, according to the description of the Florentine brand. The jewels are then declined in a series of collections that have a common stylistic root, composed of curves, enveloping niches, soft lines, almost like leaves of an exotic plant. Among the different collections under this precious hat there is also Rivage, also in this case with the usual shape that recalls the flower of anthurium. Pink gold worked in small lozenges and pavé of white diamonds are the elements used for the collection. Next to Rivage, perhaps a step above, the Premiere collection uses the same rounded surface but in this case with white gold, diamonds and blue teardrop sapphires: the effect is remarkable. Fear to fly? Not for Cristina Ortiz, who has turned the wings into luxury jewelry ♦

How did Cristina Ortiz to grow in the remote island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Atlantic Ocean) and become a refined fashion designers and jewelry? You must admit that it is rather strange. Yet the first 16 years of Cristina Ortiz were spent between beaches and ocean winds, away from everyone. Then, she recovered: she graduated from the Fashion Institute, Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, in Paris. From a fashion capital to another: came from Prada in Milan, as design director. Then she worked as creative director of Salvatore Ferragamo, and left his stamp in the women’s division of Brioni, and later in the Maison Lanvin. In a nutshell, a miracle. The dark side of the force has its own charm, let’s face it. But it is not necessary to become followers of Lord Vader to appreciate the dark side of life, the shadows that can make a flat goodness interesting. All this, perhaps, is summarized in the Gothic collection of Lebole Gioielli. What is now enriched with new elements, such as the black cat and the half moon, which are added to the crosses and skulls already present in the collection. The pair of earrings is, like the other pieces, made of silver galvanized gold, but this time plays on the contrast between the golden base, designed as a wall covered with striped upholstery and the black surface of the contrasting cat. The black natural stones recall the romantic neogothic culture, a bit dark, a little alchemical. Flowers, love and fantasy. More diamonds, precious stones and so much gold. The Maison Crivelli shows out for the fall-winter 2017 with a renewed dress and revised collections. The style of collections, however, is always that: value jewels, made with gold and white or colored diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, apatites, paraibe. Rings, necklaces and bracelets were divided into three different groups, according to different chromatic suggestions.

In the case of the second group of chromatic suggestions, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires are also used in a floral form, with stones that in some cases form petals and pistils. In VicenzaOro September, the Yvone Christa New York brand was inspired by the sky. The two Swedish designers, now transplanted to the States, have dedicated the new collection to the rising moon. The collection of pendants is called, in fact, Crescent Moon. And the jewels presented have the shape of the night planet. The half moons are made with the classic style of the American Maison, that is filigree work. The pieces are silver, with the addition of small pearls and semi-precious natural stones. A style that Yvonne Clamf and Christina Söderström learned in Rome, where they studied at the Design School. Today their boutique is in New York, where from Soho has moved to NoLita (North of Little Italy), the tricolor district, amongst chefs and artists, became very trendy.
